We heard there was a vinyl record shop downtown ann arbor. We walked down from campus. The clerk/owner did not say hello or look up. There were two other people browsing and no one purchasing anything or asking any questions. We found some vinyl, asked about price, not marked. Clerk rudly said the price was on it without noting what we were looking at. Showed her there was actually no price. She said nothing but eventually suggested a price. We wanted the item, asked if there were more items by this artist. Im not sure if she had disgust for Taylor swift, us, or something else. It was like pulling teeth to buy the item and then we left. We will never return. Thanks for helping make our visit to ann arbor so welcoming. Reminded me of the pretentious smug record store clerks of the 70s and 80s. They might sell certain records, but youre really uncool if you buy them or ask about them. P.s. nice experience with friendly clerk at Wazoo records on State st.

An excellent record store if youre looking for a great selection of new vinyl. There is a small used section that usually has some choice finds in the recent arrivals box too. They manage to stock a lot of limited presses and whoever chooses the general stock has great taste. Theyre also one of those shops that recognizes their regulars and goes out of the way to hook them up. Great spot.

Great and wide selection of records.Decent prices, I got the last release by Sleaford Mods, but they had the first record by King Crimson at such a good price. Hard to decide, so many choices.A must for music addicts.

Literally the most condescending and pretentious staff i have ever had to experience. the person helping us had a terrible attitude and we actually walked in on her talking about a previous customer in the most unprofessional way i have ever seen. absolutely no reason for a grown adult to act that way. nice vinyls but a pretty weak selection. would’ve given more stars if the adult acted like the adult.

Very good selection, and very good customer service! When we walked in, we were asked to use hand sanitizer for covid precautions, which I appreciated as we touched many records. We were welcome to stay and look as long as we liked and I ended up finding a few records I would have never expected to see!!!

I buy all my vinyl here. Im not much into newer stuff, but they always have some Pink Floyd, Beatles, Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Hendrix in stock. Also alot of great 90s music like Dave Matthews Band, RHCP, Foo. Hey that reminds me, you know what classic 90s LP I need? Throwing Copper! Keep up the good work and crank up the analog!

This is my favorite record store in town! The owner and staff are incredibly nice and helpful. I mentioned my love of an artist, and they let me know of a RSD release of an older album that hadnt previously been out on vinyl. The selection is great, and it doesnt feel pretentious like other stores in Ann Arbor. Theres also a great bin of well-priced, used records that I like to dig through. If youre looking for a place to buy vinyl in Ann Arbor, I would definitely recommend Underground Sounds!

Excellent selection of vinyl, all reasonably priced, especially compared to other record stores in SE Michigan. Records always come with dust covers, which I find to be a nice touch. The staff are very helpful and will order anything for you that isnt available off the shelf. Its a small store, but it adds to the intimacy of the experience.Ive also ordered vinyl from their website and it was shipped promptly, expertly packed, and came with a fun little sample EP from an artist Id never heard of. Honestly, this place is my favorite record store.

When I Used My American Express Card... Im Going To Go There One More Time Just To See If This Same Thing Happen Again

I work in town so I stop in this shop every once and while (Generally about once every couple of months). Selection is pretty decent, Clean, Organized. Staff is generally helpful, I’ve seen them go above and beyond for friends and co-workers of mine. I’ve even got asked if I needed help finding anything from time to time which I appreciate. I stopped in the other day to purchase a record, I was asked for my ID for a $20 purchase (strange). Once I inserted my credit card it asked for a pin, I tried to bypass it because my credit card doesn’t have a pin but I “ couldn’t “ do that for some reason because of the “machine”. At this point slightly frustrated and humiliated I wanted to just walk out but I had already waited about 30 minutes to get it in so I wanted to make the wait worth my while. I ended up paying with my debit card but the whole experience left me with a bad taste about this shop, I felt profiled and I’ll probably never shop here again.

Claire seriously rules! I have never had a better random record store experience. Shes super knowledgable about a bunch of music and fun to talk to. Great record selection for sure.

Decent selection I guess but the staff was totally ignoring everybody, not just me. I grabbed something I was interested in but obviously the middle aged guy and a younger lady werent interested in being the slightest bit personable, or even acknowledging my existence, so I just put it back. Found it cheaper on Amazon anyway. I wish I could get paid to sit on my butt with my phone/ laptop in my face and ignore customers all day...

Visited Ann Arbor for a wedding all the way from Florida and stopped in this gem. Great selection and, on top of that, excellent customer service. I can’t remember the dude’s name but he was as cool as could be and went above and beyond to get the records I purchased packed up so that I could toss them in my suitcase and get them home safely. Great experience!

A great small record shop that has a variety of titles new and used. Also the owner and staff are really helpful and nice.

A cozy fun shop. They carry over 90% new vinyl that includes current artists and classic re-releases. If youre looking for used vintage vinyl, they have a limited inventory, but I did find a couple of nuggets. The inventory of new vinyl is arranged alphabetically and they offer a varied selection: everything from newer obscure artists to classic favorites. Their prices are competitive for both new and used. They also offer 45s and cassettes. Its a small place; part of the experience is getting cozy with fellow shoppers. The owner is knowledgeable and friendly. Ill definitely go back.

My favorite Ann Arbor record store by far!! Matt is a great guy and will always try to get me what I want. The prices are super fair especially for being a retail space in downtown Ann Arbor. Always a great atmosphere and a great place to spend some money. The store always has a great stock, and definitely the place to attend Record Store Day in April and Black Friday!! My boyfriend and I have been shopping at Underground Sounds for about a year now and I cant think of a better shop. The staff is always super helpful, and the owner Matt is incredibly knowledgeable and a genuinely nice dude. When we decided to upgrade our sound system he helped us figure out what we needed and pointed us in the right direction reputable sellers to purchase from.Beyond the staff, this shop has the best collection of newer records in Ann Arbor with new inventory coming in often enough that I dont feel like Im looking at the same records every time I come in. Honestly if you arent shopping at Underground you arent doing it right.

The owner of the shop is incredibly kind and helpful. I bought a record here with major cosmetic defects and he replaced it for me and resold it (the record company wouldnt take it back.) Even when Ive come in just to browse the staff have been kind and helpful. After so many positive experiences here, its hard for me to shop for records anywhere else! Not to mention the very cool atmosphere and good music playing when you visit.

Decent shop with a damn good selection of indie rock and outstandingly affordable prices. Though I do find it a bit odd to call your shop underground sounds, be located 30 minutes from Detroit, and not have a clue about underground dance music.

I have been looking for an Iggy Pop album for my boyfriend for WEEKS! Its Christmas tike and I wanted to get him the perfect gift. After trying multiple different record stores and all sorts of online sources I accidentally came across this store while giving Amazon one last look. Too my surprise they had it! They were very helpful when I called to confirm and super helpful once arriving at the store. I didnt stay long, but just glancing through the store they had a very wide variety and vast collection. Walked in, realized their inventory was %95 vinyl, walked out. It would be nice if they carried some CDs and Cassettes since almost all underground/local bands release on one of those two mediums; so the store name is fairly misleading. Might come back when I get a record player, the place seemed clean and upscale enough.

Absolutely a vynl record store deserving a 5 star rating in my own personal opinion. My main reason is the fact that they have anything you could possibly imagine you would want now or in the near future. They have anything you are looking for and even some artist you have never heard of but come to find out in the end are entirely grateful for this place bringing you and that artist together in the first place lol! So if you are ever going to think of starting that collection do not go anywhere else but here my friends because this place is and will always be your one stop shop for any record you want new or old. If I could work here for decent pay I would in a second but u have no idea on the pay but thats alright I will always go here for any record purchase from here on until they move or I move on lol check it out guys you wont regret it:D

Not a record store like it. Their small footprint is compensated for with phenomenal selection. Queens of the Stone Age, Deltron 3000, Death From Above 1979, SWANS, Ive almost never turned up empty-handed.

Cant believe there is even one negative review for this place. The guy that posted it mustve been having a bad day or something. The only thing that is even close to a negative about Underground Sounds is that since the shop is in a tight space, the selection is smaller. But Im not a miner... I much prefer this to the places like Encore because the collection is well-edited and only CDs and vinyl that are new or like-new are allowed on the shelves. The owner is super nice, knows about all kinds of music, and has a cool dog. Best record store in SE MI.
