Incredible beer selection, awesome dog friendly patio. Good for all times of day. Order food from Haywood Common next door and enjoy it with all the lovely on tap or canned beers. The draft list changes frequently so theres always new great stuff to try.

Pretty aesthetically. Beers are a bit pricey but nice variety on draft and good can/bottle list. Bartender was very friendly and helpful. Would come back again if I want to hit a beer bar rather than an asheville brewery

Brilliant place. Love the collaborative/shared outside space for the beer, cocktail and food establishments. Allowed myself and my wife to play to each places strengths when I fancied beer and she fancied a cocktail with dinner.

Once upon a time there was this amazing Bar in Asheville called The Whale. It was small, a bit hidden to any tourist but once you found it...you were home again. Gary the bartender was like an old friend, he was well versed in all things beer AND mead related....oh and expert at the very fun skittles game! The interior of this place was so unique and different; it was like playing eye spy with Whales everywhere. Dogs are welcomed if they are whale-behaved...i mean WELL-behaved. We laughed, we drank, joked about knitting dog fur into sweaters, we got weird...and that my friends is the kinda bar I myself hang out at! 11/10 rating! :)

Amazing beer selection, great staff, and cool atmosphere! The whale rocks! They have a great tap selection, with stuff you cant normally find as well as an extensive bottle and can selection. They have tap takeover days with great breweries. The atmosphere is very cool, with a handmade whale skeleton going across the ceiling. Indoor and outdoor space are seamless with garage doors on nice days. The staff are nice and ready to give recommendations. Always a stop when I have friends in town! Not to forget that the music selection is always on point

Always a great tap list and an amazing selection of bottles available. Covered area outside is great for staying out of the sun or for those that like the sun, plenty of uncovered space outside as well!

The brews are top notch - the seating is top notch - the vibe is top notch - and the bartenders are always just really nice to talk to. Have never had a complaint relaxing at this spot!

A wide variety of craft beer on tap and canned from around the nation with funky music to boot. 6 parking spots, so good luck with the street parking. The church next door seems to be the popular parking location. They share the outside large seating area with the delicious restaurant next door. They have some liquor.

Wow, what a great place! Good tap selections, and an amazing can and bottle list. My husband had had on his list to visit for 3 years (we arent local), and it did not disappoint!

Amazing beer bar in the heart of West Asheville. You know a bar is good when it is a local hangout and a tourist destination and it isn’t downtown. It would be hard to find a more diverse selection of regional and national and international beer. Been around for three years and still killing it. The owners and employees are super great people and good friends. Give them some love and respect for safe social distancing and great outdoor seating with heaters.Slow pour lager society members welcome.

I like the whale, ambience and drinks. I love that they’re dog friendly. The bartender was a little blasé and they don’t give a free drink on your broth day (aaawkard) but other than that enjoyed it.

The beer selection here is by far the best in Asheville. You can get beers, on draft, from breweries all over the world. I love that, when you check in to a beer on the Untapped app, your check-in shows up on their digital beer menu screen displayed above the bar.The bartenders are happy to make suggestions based on what you tell them your favorite tastes are. This is a rare gem of Asheville.The location is convenient. Interior is unique- make sure to look up when you go in or youll miss something beautiful. Parking is a little stressful. If their tiny lot is full, there is nowhere for you to turn around. I suggest not even attempting to park in their lot, but instead parking off-street or in a nearby lot.I *DEFINITELY* recommend this as a must-visit! I know I will be back for sure.

They have a nice porch. I really didnt like this place when they first opened. Beer prices were out of control. They have reduced their beer prices a little bit since then (or they havent changed them since beer prices have risen across the board) Dont expect local beers, their menu is more about the southeast region. All in all this place is fine. I will never suggest going there, but Ill go if my friends want to.

Quite overpriced for a pint of non-local beer. $8.00 is too much for something made four states away.They were playing LOUD punk rock for 2 hours plus, and even in the outdoor lot (which you CANNOT bring beer into) I was struggling to enjoy myself.But the tender was nice and so was every employee I spoke to, so plus sides there.

The beer list isnt very local (quite international, actually), but its very good. Great COVID-friendly space with plenty of distance between tables, propane heaters, etc. Was able to bring food from elsewhere to enjoy here, too, though they also have food on site.

Stopped by here as Ive heard big things about this spot however I wasnt thrilled in relation to my expectations. They had a large beer list but really wasnt anything in my wheelhouse that I was raving for. Its connected to the other side of Haywood Common Market who they looked to have some pretty decent food. I did like the dinosaur bones hanging from the ceiling but that was about it for me.

Went their today and had a back experience due to the establishment that is connected to this place. Two separate restaurants but seem like one establishment. The employees at The Whale were GREAT! but don’t go to Haywood Common employees were rude and got mad at us for trying to Get a side of ketchup and told us we couldn’t go over to Haywood Common because we were The Whales customers. GIVE THE WHALE A CHANCE! Dont go to Haywood Common

Really like the decor and atmosphere. Well designed. Open but yet feels cozy & comfy like you can have a private convo. Great selection of beers youll have a hard time finding elsewhere. Food from Haywood commons served if you order next door. Nice outdoor seating space. Beers a bit pricey, but too be expected from the offerings of hard to finds. Market price on the run of the mill beers. Definitely will be back.

Great beer variety; but, not many sampling of draft options like Craft Centric and Casual Pint offer. For example, you have to risk paying for a full can or bottle to trial taste.

In a town with dozens of microbrews, The Whale stands apart through its large selection of beers from around the world. It doesnt brew its own. Instead, it is always interesting as you can have a brew from virtually any geographic location from almost anywhere. Service is superb and clientele fun and like-minded!-

Its nice inside and outside. There are many beer choices that you cant find at most other places. Its a good place for a date or bringing your out of town friends.

Selection is amazing but something needs to be done about pricing. In a town where 5 dollar pours are the norm, this place is going to price itself out of business. I understand the unique selections are probably not the most affordable, but something has to be done for this place to be viable for awhile.

Great beer and many are small runs you can only get there. A must stop for any beer enthusiasts. Haywood Commons serves great food to nosh on as well. One of my favorite places in W AVL

What a gem. This place has the BEST beer list in Asheville. Keep in mind, if youre looking for a bar serving lots of local beer youre in the wrong place. BUT if youre looking for a bar that is serving beer from small breweries from around the world and interested in expanding your mind and beer pallet you cant go wrong here. 10/10, would drink again.
