Great location, cold room, not sure if the heater is broken. I tried to call for assitance since the close the front desk at 5pm but no one answer. had to run the hot water for a few minutes to get the steam out of the bathroom so I was more comfortable inside the room. I would definitely not recommend the hotel.

I stayed at The Charles Inn during early part of June. The Inn itself is cute, but not practical by any means. No amenities to speak of and make sure to bring your own toiletries. Also, the sheets where like sandpaper. I wouldnt have left this review, however, until I saw the owner criticizing the way downtown Bangor celebrated Pride this year. Quite honestly, I was in love with the downtown area so much that I overlooked many of the hotels shortcomings because I thought they were a part of what made this community so welcoming. Now knowing that the owner wants us to be who we are behind closed doors, I will never be staying behind their closed doors again.

I’ll sum this place’s value up by repeating the old real estate mantra - location, location, location! The rooms are dated but comfortable enough, although the room we stayed in did not have any workable desk space for working remotely. We did have to ask for a WiFi voucher for any reasonable connection speeds. Fireplace was wallpaper. The real downside here (at least in summer) is the window-mounted A/C, which is loud and difficult to control well enough to get the desired temperature in your room. Friendly and efficient front desk service.

Its a very cute inn with a beautiful interior. The check-in was smooth and the location simply cannot be beat. The room is small and old but clean and has a great decor. However, theres one big problem and the description on Google Maps is simply untrue - theres no free wifi. You actually have to pay for it. That is false advertising and they should update their Google My Business page to reflect the reality. As I feel cheated, I can only give it 3 stars max.Update: For my second day of the stay, I did get wifi access by asking for the code after seeing Sandys response. I will raise the rating to four stars; however, I suggest that they improve the check-in process to make this completely painless. They should have the wifi password AND the voucher code written down in the room. That way, no one has to go back to the lobby to find the wifi password and then being confused when they are asked to pay for the wifi. I really hope they can improve this soon as there was no mention of the voucher code when I checked in and nothing in my room was helping me to connect to it.

I LOVED this hotel. Close enough to everything, didnt need to rent a car. The room I had was the Travel Channel room. I had a view of the Christmas tree outside on the square. So cozy and warm with so much character.I worked there and had no issues with the wifi. The staff was very accommodating and went out of their way to make sure my stay of 9 days was pleasurable and affordable. I will definitely stay there again!

The Charles Inn is a poorly constructed hotel in downtown Bangor Maine. The cheap themed rooms are awful, and the owner of the business is a homophobic blight on Bangors Inclusive and open Downtown. This business is not safe for LGBTQ2S+ people.

A beautiful and historic location surrounding by delicious eateries and local shopping. I love the themed rooms and general atmosphere. Beautiful art work and pictures hang on all of the walls detailing the rich history of the area. Fantastic staff and great location. I look forward to experiencing all of the different themed rooms that they have to offer.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Inn. Its location is right downtown in Bangor, so you can wander around an hit a lot of hot spots for shopping, dining, and drinks. Service was phenomenal, we were having trouble with the heat in our room and the innkeeper and the maintenance man were at our door within a minute to correct the problem. They were kind and helpful throughout our stay! Its a really old building, so the rooms are also old. Its apparent that the owners take pride in the hotel and work really hard to maintain the historic building and keep the rooms clean and comfortable while maintaining a classic, historic feel. Lots of the furniture pieces throughout the hotel are antique and absolutely beautiful. The sofa and chairs in the lobby are fantastic; as were some of the pieces in our room. The building itself is beautiful and it has a very interesting history. Although the Inn may not be for everyone, we really enjoyed our stay and will certainly return. We loved the unique, historic feel of the Charles Inn and all of its neat little quirks and personality. There is a little coffee shop attached to the inn that serves awesome coffee and treats, too. If youre looking for a regular hotel with carbon copy rooms, a pool, and a continental breakfast, you might want to stick with the major chain hotels. If youre seeking something a little more interesting and historical, I highly recommend the Charles Inn.

This place has got amazing staff! A huge improvement from what it once was and the work put into the building is astounding. I love the quirky and historic feel, the rooms are all very different and great. They really have something for everyone. When its busy you might not get the room that best fits you but youll be lucky if youre able to land a room there at all given how fast they fill up for every event down around that area. I cant even stress how helpful the staff are here, and if you get a chance to meet the owners theyre wonderful. You cant get a better location with staff that know more about the area and its events. Enjoy because you really become apart of their family.

The first time we stayed here we had a great experience. We got one of the newer rooms and were satisfied. The second time we stayed we asked for a microwave and fridge, and confirmed at check in that we would be getting one, and we never received the microwave and fridge in our room. Their response was well, its good I didnt already charge you for it. In addition, the coffee maker in the room was so dusty that it was not usable as well as our allergies were acting up from the other dust in the room. When I tried to reserve a third time, because they claim to be pet friendly, I was quoted a price on the phone and told that my pets would be allowed but he wanted to check to see if he could get me a better deal and would call me back. When I did not hear back, I called again and was told he would call back again. When I was called back, I was told to check in with the other hotel that they owned and they would be able to accommodate us for the week. When I called the other hotel, they told me that could not have our pets. I called the Charles Inn back and they said oh well. So, while they state they are pet friendly they are not and they are not honest about it.

We stayed here during a two day music festival at the waterfront. Very friendly and helpful staff, clean spacious room, great location. They offer parking that was cheaper than the event parking in the same garage. Short walk to the venue, and lots of options for eating, drinking, and shopping in the immediate area. Prior to booking, I emailed them to clarify some concerns, and they were very polite and accommodating. Despite them warning us that our particular room might be a bit noisy at night, we found it to actually be very well sound-proofed.I like that they allow you 24 hour access to the parking garage that is locked up at night, and they provide a key to the lobby door so you can go in and out at any hour (the hotel lobby is locked at night). There is a connected coffee shop, where we had some great coffee and a good light breakfast the next morning.

Good location and very friendly staff. We stayed in a basic room on the ground floor. It was very clean but the bed, linen and towels could do with an update - we noticed some stains. The floor was also slightly sloped in our room which was a bit strange. The free WiFi kicks you off after a while and you have to pay if you need to use it. Nice coffee from the cafe next door. Indoor parking is 2 mins away and $6 for 24h.

Reception was courteous, no problems there. But once we got to the room is when things went downhill. The room itself was extremely dingy, nothing like advertised. The sink didnt work properly and there was a hole above the bathroom that seemed sketchy. The bed was wildly uncomfortable with sheet stains, and we could hear a dryer hammering away through the walls. There was also a screaming match happening across the hall, but that isnt the hotels fault. We left at 11pm that night instead of staying as we genuinely didnt feel comfortable sticking around.
