Went there looking for used CDs as directed by Google no CDs but what an amazing bunch of music all sorts of really cool stuff
Solid record shop. The owner is friendly and has a wide taste in good music. Had a healthy amount of hip hop and electronic. The used is definitely worth looking through and spending an afternoon on, theres great records all over the racks.Owner was willing to play anything you were thinking of buying as long as it was already opened. As a bonus, they sell Super Hit incense and have a canine employee named Hugo.
Just had our instruments cleaned. Well done. Fair price. Gave us a loaner. Straight forward. Good at his craft. Our go to for our music needs.
Classic old-school record store. Prices are good, they have a nice mix of old and brand new stuff. Go pick up some vinyl today!!
Friendly service. Went in for instrument repair and walked out with vinyl. They have instruments and music lessons.
Great record store. Love chatting with John while I am browsing. He has eclectic tastes and it shows in the collection. I was pleasantly surprised to find an Edith Piaf record there today.
I used to go to Rainbow Records often and Loved It!!! John was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and the place exuded the love of music. Scratched Vinyl doesnt have that vibe; its more of an overpriced music boutique than a true record store; selling good condition used vinyl at the price you could find it new and playing music that once would expect to hear in a trendy clothing store. I really think its a shame that Rainbow Records legacy wasnt carried on with the new ownership and location but all good things must come to an end.
Stopped in today for the first time to look for a Celtic Rock and/or Traditional Irish album and was able to find a still wrapped Chieftans album pressed in the 80s. Good selection of used and new records - not the biggest but a nice variety. Chatted with the owner for a while - real nice guy who knows his music. He asked me to let him know if there was anything I wanted for Record Store Day which is coming up in a month and hed try to order it for me. Definitely going to be stopping in here on a regular basis.
I have bought three records from here, (Led Zeppelin IV, Queen’s greatest hits, and Legend by Bob Marley) they are all in far better quality than almost all of my other records and all at a lower price. The owner is always very helpful with any questions or finding something.
Love the vibe, TONS of selection and knowledgeable team members.
Most of these reviews are bridged from Rainbow Records, the previous owner. I enjoyed that store, but this new owner and location is even better! Great selection, fair prices, owner knowledgeable about music and turntables. Could be open more, but it is a new small business, I would imagine as time goes on the hours will expand.
A nice little record store with a good collection. A lot of it was reasonably priced! Helpful staff as well
If youre looking for a record store in the Chicago suburbs, theres no finer establishment than Rainbow Records. Their vinyl prices are excellent, and the range in selection is top-notch (especially punk records, of which there are many). And, of course, one cant fully review Rainbow Records without mentioning the owner, John. He is an absolute fountain of knowledge, as friendly as they come, and you can spend almost as much time talking with him than you can browsing their selection. If you find yourself in the northwest suburbs, or are just looking for a great resource for new and old vinyl, head out to Rainbow Records.
The owner and his wife are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Unfortunately they are only open Saturdays because of personal issues. Excellent selection of records and new stuff is always coming in. They dont have a large collection of new records, however.
Came here looking for the womens clothes google erroneously has this business listed as and found something even better.... Vinyl records! John is a great guy, super knowledgeable about the music in his store. Prices are about on par with what you would find online, but the selection is usually stellar and you get to check the condition first hand. Not to mention youre supporting your local small business! Wont regret checking this place out.
My first time here I accidentally purchased a different product than I thought I was getting. I gave the store a call and they were more than helpful; they helped me get everything worked out. The staff here couldnt be friendlier and the selection of vinyls is overwhelmingly spectacular. No doubt that I will be a returning customer on a regular basis
Great selection of vinyl, John helped me find just what I was looking for. Nice guy, I will be going back, bringing my son and grandson next time.
Place is amazing very cool local business I’d recommend this place to any vinyl enthusiast
Owners very nice people. Good selection of albums.
Theres a vast range of hard to find records from even some lesser known artists including plenty of hard to find imports. Many of these records do come at a slightly higher than expected price, but you probably wont find them anywhere else so what does a price mean at this point anyway?
Rainbow Records is hands down the best record store Ive been to. Before stumbling upon it on the way back from a doctors appointment, I would either order my vinyl online or take a trip to some overpriced record stores in the city. After one visit, I can confidently say that this is where Ill be purchasing the vast majority of my records from now on.Its small, but makes good use of every last square foot. There are boxes full of great records - from classic rock to jazz - and if you look hard enough, youre bound to find a handful of steals. My first visit, I spent over an hour flipping through boxes upon boxes of records, and I could have easily spent a couple more.I ended up walking out with an original pressing of Bowies Station to Station for $20, and an original pressing of My Life in the Bush of Ghost by Brian Eno and David Lynch for $10. Dont get me wrong, not all prices are great. There were a few records that I thought couldve been $5 to $10 cheaper, but most are priced very generously. But pricing and selection arent the only reason I love Rainbow Records. One of the biggest attractions for me is its owner, John. He is one of the most knowledgeable individuals I have ever met in my life, and Id be hard pressed to say that Ive spoken with someone more passionate about music than he. The man truly loves what he does. I spent over a half hour talking with him about Brian Eno, The Talking Heads, Lou Reed, and the Velvet Underground. It was the most pleasant and enlightening conversation Ive had in a record store, period.I cant wait for my next visit to Rainbow Records. If youre a music junkie living in the Northwest Suburbs, I highly suggest you pay this hidden gem a visit. Youll be glad you did.
Great location with a really nice selection of vinyls. Ill be back!
Great record shop... Good selection, knowledgeable & personable owner, & fair prices.. Now, all I want to know is, WHERE ARE THE WOMENS CLOTHES?!?!?!?!?
Excellent selection. The owner is extremely nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. He really loves what he does.
Gotta say it looked good from the window, open Saturdays only. To be updated with in store experience
My go-to destination for rock, jazz and blues in the NW Chicago burbs. Also a great place to hang out and listen to John Thominet share his outstanding musical knowledge.
Excellent selection. Stores like this are rare these days. Worth stopping in if you love music.
Best place for old vinyl. John is a great source of information on records, artists and the industry as a whole.
Knowledgeable, friendly, fairly priced. Will certainly keep coming back!
Great place to do a little record shoping, 45s=DVD s. You never know what youll find.
John has a expansive collection of great vinyl albums!
Fantastic selection of vinyl and the owner is always at the location and very knowledgeable and helpful.
This place Rocks, front to back top to bottom! Jon is the man when it comes to vinyl. Copies my LPs to CD for me too. For a nominal fee of course :)
Nice old school record store
Always a great experience.
Great selection
