Big river scoop is a staple of summertime snacking. It has a small town cozy atmosphere and a great staff. We love to reward our kids by coming here after good behavior at the park which is just across the street.

Overpriced was OK ice-cream. Smelled better inside than it tasted an asteticly was nice.

Great little place.The staff was friendly and courteous. They gave nice generous sized portions as well which made it worth the stop.This place serves Chocolate Shop ice cream. A brand that we have found to be superior in quality and variety of excellent flavors.

If you like Mocha Frapuccino then get their Iced Mocha. Much better! Frozen Hot Chocolate was so good too. Great service and cute store

So many ice cream flavors! And even if theres a line of customers waiting, dont worry. They can move people through fairly quickly! I was impressed.

Zanzibar chocolate was good. Very dark and rich. The blueberry and the coconut almond were very disappointing. We wont be back.

Ate ice cream here 4 nights in a row and on the 4th assuming the owner was there has no take care of customer service. Wonderful ice cream but soured me to not want to go because he wouldn’t just give us an extra cup so my wife and I could drive in separate cars and share the ice cream. Ps don’t lose a customer of a small container that you pay 20cents for.

I love the selection of flavors. Wide variety and something for everyone. This is my go to for birthday treats. You can even buy gift cards.

My wife and I brought our daughter and her family here a couple weeks ago and I had to return this time with some of our young missionaries serving in the area. We absolutely love this quality ice cream with such creative names and descriptions. I tried Mint Avalanche this late time. Wow! The ambiance in the store is really warm and inviting too and location couldnt be better right on the shore of Lake Bemidji and near Paul Bunyan and the Blue Ox.

You have to stop in and get some real ice cream. Staff was helpful and selection of ice cream was plentiful. Great way to spend some time at the park across the street.

Great quality ice cream with a wide selection and reasonable prices served by a friendly staff.The Kitty Kitty Bang Bang is my favorite. A single scoop is about equivalent to a double at most other places. Meander across the street to eat your ice cream next to Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox.

Ice cream is great but the service is even better. Most friendly business owner I’ve ever talked to in my life. Very genuine, you can tell they love what they do. Stopped by today to satisfy my pregnancy craving for peanut butter ice cream and they went above and beyond to make me happy. 10/10 would recommend!

They have a lot of different options when it comes to ice cream and you can just stop in and get something. One downside is it can get busy sometimes but i understand why. The people that work there are kind and friendly and the place has a nice atmosphere. Its one of my favorite places to go for ice cream but they also have other options as well like cookies, popcorn and more. Stop in sometime, I suggest a time before lunch cause itll be less busy, you wont regret it.

Always love coming here for a treat. The staff is friendly, there is a ton of choices, and its one of the few places in town that truly has something for everyone. I love coming here with my brother who is Dairy free, and they always have at least three choices. The other big thing I love about this places is the staff. My brother is autistic, and shy around new people because of his speech impediment, but Big River staff never skips a beat when helping him out. They always let him have a taste, and dont hesitate to let him decide what he wants. Patience and as friendly as can be. There are to many places who just treat him like a kid, or like something is wrong with him, but not here.It was just the other day the gal who was helping us noticed he was undecided about how much he wanted, and literally told him Let me know when you want me to stop. Ill show you what they look like for a single and a double. His grin said it all. Even if this place is a bit on the spendier side its worth every penny to support a business who cares about their customers.

Great flavour selections, super happy with our choices. Eager staff awaited us to make our decision which made us feel a little rushed, seemed overstaffed but didnt affect our service. Seems like a great spot in the summertime, so we are likely to return in warmer weather!

Great ice cream choices, cozy little place, friendly people. A definite cant-miss when youre downtown! My favorite flavor is Exhausted Parent, but theyre all yummy.

We enjoyed an evening snack here. Cookies with our choice of ice cream between them. I had 2 sugar cookies dipped in white chocolate with Lemon poppy seed ice cream in between them. Yum! This quaint little place is right across the street from the statues of Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox. There was a table outside when we ate. Tables out there were not clean but since we were just eating handheld ice cream items it didnt matter. There is a nice paved walking trail in the park with the statues and the trail goes right along the river and over the bridge. Beautiful park with nice childrens play area. There are many picnic tables in the park and those looked clean.

Super friendly people and excellent ice cream. You can look out the window and see Paul Bunyan while you are eating! We will eat here again.

Kids and I like the different variety of icecream flavors. Really good. I ordered a mango smoothie and as I left I tasted it and it tasted like banana. Went back in and thought maybe they just made a mistake. Well they didnt. They put frozen banana cubes in it. That would have been nice to know beforehand. So fair warning. The girl didnt offer to do anything and I do not like banana.

Best ice cream shop in MN that I have been too. Have ice cream from a smaller company in Wisconsin. Its not a typical Kemps only parlor and the flavors are amazing and unique. Do yourself a favor and get a scoop or two!

Thay are always smiling and ready to help and take there time to help you pick out the best ice cream. My kids love it there

Cute place, with a kids play area, a quiet philosophy room with used books and rocking chairs, and absolutely delicious ice cream. They also support the local area, and you can purchase merchandise from local artists there if you want. My only complaints are: 1. As of the summer of 2013, you can only use the bathroom if you are a paying customer, which I found a little snarky. And 2. As of the summer of 2014: The girls bathroom was filled with spiders. Needless to say, I took my pot o gold elsewhere. But! Those two issues aside, I love the place, and visit it frequently.

Wish we had gotten to try the ice cream but we arrived at 7pm on a Friday and their closed sign was up and door locked. Even their hours sign said they were open til 9, but the employees inside were just sitting around chatting with the door locked. We knocked on the window and they looked at us confused. We mimed are you open? And they just stared at us with dumb looks. We went and tried the door again and they didnt move from behind the counter to even tell us they were closed. So yeah, dont count on them being open even if you come during their hours.
