Just moved to Berkley and this store is great. So much to see and buy. Really, the best comic books, dvd, retro toys etc., Ive ever seen under one roof. What really impressed me was how clean it was. These type of stores tend to be dark and dirty, this one was the opposite end of the spectrum, bright and clean. My grandsons and I will will be going often!
As someone that has lived in the area for over 10 years this place has been an absolute treasure in the community, but unfortunately with my recent and most likely last visit to this collectibles store I can not recommend this place to anyone. When I entered the store I was greeted with a friendly face and was the ignored for about 15 mins and when i ask about a list of cards I was looking for I was told the guys that deal with that stuff would be in soon and I could leave my list. When I came back over an hour later they had not even looked at my list yet and was asked to wait longer. Once they got my list of cards I was pretty much rushed out the door. Overall it was the worse customer experience I have ever had.
Geek haven, dont mind the dust and grime - ITS WORTH THE STOP - you will see a lot of cool stuff you may have never known existed. Large, vintage, pop-culture toy collection. Small vintage video game selection (mostly X-Box, PS1+2). Moderate comic selection all at MSRP or higher. Great magic the gathering colection including many vintage packs - trade in your cards here and they may offer you $0.25 on the $1
Went there a few days ago with my brother, and while we didn’t buy anything, I was in awe at the sheer amount of stuff they had. It really brought me back in time seeing such obscure things as Street Fighter 2 GI Joes, McFarlane Horror Series, and tons of 90s retro games. The only issue I had with it is not having enough time to go through everything! I overheard the owner talking about cleaning the place up, which is really cool and I wish him the best of luck to make this store super successful.
Lil shop that will take you back in time...a time when you were happy and carefree..your childhood! And the staff is helpful too ☺️
Had the opportunity to stop in this morning and start my day of great. Amazing selection and atmosphere, and the owner Michael was very welcoming and helpful. Looking forward to going back with my kids and letting them talk me into getting a bunch of cool comics and figures.
Fun place to find some gems! Mike is always helpful. I like to bring my young daughters to pick out a couple loose or fairly priced figures...great way for them to start collecting.
This place has a lot of collectables from action figures, cards, video games, comics, etc. Definitely a treasure trove of vintage and some modern items! Only issues Ive noticed with this place is its not well organized and customer service isnt that good. Still fun to visit and browse the clutter lol! Also, they have a small area for weekly card games.
Went in last Sunday.Samir, behind the counter was knowledgeable in his help with my questions. The new owner Michael was very honest and helpful with options I could use for selling some Spider-Man comics. Will be back again.
The new owner is super friendly. Great staff and the vibe in store is so much better now. If you havent stopped in lately be sure to soon
Showed up. No one was home. It was an hour drive. A little heads up on the google would have been nice. Came to spend some money, left dissapointed and unfulfilled. Just a note that said closed. Power out. No clue how long it had been there or would remain.
Ill be very honest they have a lot of stuff but they regularly price stuff for lower then what they are willing to charge for it to get you into store. This is the 2nd time Ive spend a long time going through comic books to find a good comics for a comic price only to be told at the register they wouldnt honor it and that a customer must have put them in the wrong bins. Last time I only got a few so it wasnt to big of a deal this time I got what should have been $29.85 that the guy wanted to charge me $89 dollars for instead. So I decided only to get a few different comics books and cards then again he said they would be $89 but this time said he hit the wrong button and it would be $45 when it should have been like 19 dollars I reluctantly bought the items and left. This place is very scummy I wont be back.
New owner, new mantra. Spoke to the new owner briefly and he seemed to be a very down to earth guy. It can be challenging to overcome previous bad experiences customers have had with the place, but he seems to have put all that behind. That being said, awesome store filled with so much nostalgia! Tons of comics, toys, TCG, baseball cards. Plus an abundance of retro video games which was a nice suprise... dont find too many places like this, I definitely recommend checking it out.
Incredible selection. Friendly staff. The store reminds me of childhood favorites in the 80s. Fun for the whole family. Go here now!
Prepare to spend some time in this store. Its like a TARDIS.Very helpful and friendly staff. Well definitely be back.
I recently sold a few comics & cards here, the first 2 things I noticed was the enormous amount of items and that every employee was helpful and super-cool!Their prices were quite fair in what they buy & sell, by far the best comic, card & toy store Ive been in.
I love this place, so many goodies! Also, staff is awesome and very helpful.
I stopped by when I was in the area and only bought a small stack of comics (it’s hard to look in the clutter of the store). I was satisfied with the prices of what I was able to manage finding and left.I get home and realize the owner, who was the one who checked me out, forgot 20 of my comics. I message on Facebook and ask if they were left there, and if I could come get them the next day, and all I get is a short response that I can. They don’t even actually confirm they are there. So I had to drive all the way back the next day to pick them up (one hour one way) and when I went in all I got was an attitude and talked down to by the same man who forgot to give me my comics in the first place. Never an apology or an ounce of sincerity for his mistakes or the inconvenience he caused, just right to trying to teach me how to speak. Didn’t even give me a bag for my books when I left.Worst customer service experience of my life, and from the way I overheard him speak to other customers not one exclusive to me.
Time Travelers is a scam. My boyfriend and I went to Time Travelers to go look at some comic books. We spent about two hours going through comic books in a box that was clearly marked $.60 each or 20 for $9.95 when we went to go check out he said that some customer must have took those out from another bin and put them in the $.60 bin so we wasted two hours for nothing. They must not care about the Michigan bounty law at all here. We will not be back.
Very helpful staff and very reasonable prices, I bought a couple of old school Transformers and Im very happy with my purchase. Thank you I will be back
I always enjoy coming here. It brings back alot of memories when I was a kid and theres a lot to choose from.
Intrigued with the Traveler Guru Im tagging along on a venture. What a great store. Aisles and layers of hits of art and artifacts which draw you into a whirlwind of discovery. From Magic gamers live competition to the possibility of seeing the first episode of movies, comics, game systems. The owner & team are fascinating and so involved in the excitement of the fantasy and science fi of all that surrounds you.Gifts that would excite the sweetest of souls to the time travelers of the future. History of the gamers prior to the digital and beyond.See for yourself the treasures captured although they are there today and someones hit to there past to add a great treasure to someone tomorrow? They buy, trade, sell and host great events! Like if you enjoy the pictures!
Do not visit if you have a dust allergy. If you do not have a dust allergy, you could not pick a more interesting store to visit. I had not relized how many things I had forgotten from my childhood until I started searching through their many shelves. We only left in a reasonable amount of time because the husband started sneezing.
Good service and a wide selection of comic books. I cant recommend it enough.
Tons of comics! Old and new. Bunch of pop figurines and other collectibles, toys... Will likely be back.
Been coming here for years and always finding something new to discover. Reasonably priced if you know what you are looking for.
Great selection of new and old comics, graphics novels, figurines, games, and I m sure a lot more than I remember. The guys are real helpful getting up and down a ladder to get us stuff to look at on the top shelf. The prices were reasonable. We are going to go back and try to take it all in this time.
GREAT selection of a variety of collectibles! Figures, statues, even some plush. Very friendly staff. One of the best stores around for collectibles and figures. If youre looking for something for a particular character or tv show, good chance that they have an item. REALLY good selection of trade paperbacks.Back issues not organized so well. New comics on the shelves are nearly all bowed in the middle. Can be hard to maneuver in the store.
This isnt a very handicap or stroller family store. We couldnt even get inside because they had the front entrance blocked off. You have to take the stairs to even get inside the store.
Mike is great and his shop is something special. I personally love the large selection of Funko pops! Very grateful for this place.
Such a great store. Extremely helpful, employees dont breath down your neck when you want to browsing. Definitely went out of their way to help me out when I made some mistakes in an order.
Awesome selection of comic and cards, and so many vintage toys its crazy.
This is one of my favorite comic and gaming shops
Fun for a nerd! I had a good time
Staff is nice the cards r great and the pulls To! to all the people who wrote a 1 star review i feel kind of bad even if they r raging over something like a bad pack ext.Anyways this place is very nice would highly recommend.
Last time going there. Went there to trade some cards. Took two tins and a new dragon shield portfolio full of cards. When all was said and done, he wouldnt give the portfolio back even when asked too. His answer was, No! But we do sell those here. Should have stayed and made him return my portfolio. But had more important places to be so I left.
No COVID safety with employees not wearing masks at all. Honestly I appreciate a business being so quick to show me not to shop there. I left in 45 seconds, I’m not risking COVID due to their laziness.I won’t be shopping their post COVID either. Anyone who doesn’t take customer safety as a priority now doesn’t deserve my business in the future.Edit: Should clarify, having a mask on your ears but not covering your nose or mouth doesn’t count. I observed a man stocking comics this way then the man working at the counter was the same with a mask not covering anything .
Great selection of comics, figurines, cards, old gaming systems and games and many other items. Be ready to spend some time here.
I really enjoyed going in there. I imagine that almost anything comic related will be in this store. Ill be going back there for sure.
DO NOT SHOP HERE!! HORRIBLE!Ive had alot of trouble going to this store over the years. The staff is very passive aggressive and some times flat out aggressive. I called today and asked if they were willing to buy my vintage Pokemon cards, which they were. The owner nervously looked threw my cards and prices on Ebay. He asked ME what he sould price them at and what I would do.. I told him I had no idea, after what I really though and this didnt have any effect on the owners opinion any ways. He got upset and told me to just go else where. This store wants to buy your stuff at the lowest possible price and turn around and sell everything at top dollar!!They make you feel like complete garbage!!!If I could give - negative stars I would horrible place.
Im a huge Darth Vader toy/comic collector and find a thrill when searching for things I dont own in my collection. I found a few pieces here I didnt have and was really excited to check them out. A lot of the ones I wanted to see where stacked all the way on high shelves or behind counters. Im a small woman, exactly 5ft. there are not many shelves I can reach. One employee was going back and forth in the same area where I was looking directly up practically breaking my neck to see the figure. Apparently I was in his way because he did kindly say excuse me but I was waiting for him to finish what he was doing before asking for assistance... He never once offered assistance or even made eye contact. Just acted annoyed with me. I sadly left the piece. It dosent end there tho, no sir it does not. I had my husband with me on this visit and my husband knows I was searching for a new comic shop to get my Darth Vader Marvel Comics. These are 2020 comics so they are new printings. When I asked to owner if they had those comics his response was Yeah when they come in with a tone that sounded like I had now just annoyed him too. If you dont want to help your customers, dont own a toy shop and just sell on eBay.I found 7 Darth Vader pieces I wanted to take home regardless of price. I left with 2 because its the only 2 my husband could help me get after annoying one of the workers to see a signed photo.FOR ALL MY TOY/COMIC COLLECTORS: I have always been treated with respect and cared for with quality customer service at Funky Town Toys and Comics. I will continue to take my business there. Well worth the 30min drive from my house.
This shop is one of the only places I will go to buy cards apart from the store being a bit crowded it is lovely and there magic card collection is also impressive and complete
Its pretty cool but its not best comic book store ive been too
Been there a couple of timesThe layout of the place is pretty claustrophobic. They have a lot of stuff, some of it very obscure, which is good, but it feels like going into a hoarders apartment in some areas. In my last visit I sold my comic collection. They gave me a fair price, but the attitude was just awful. They kept me waiting for 10 minutes (even though some employees were clearly free) without even acknowledging I was there, and when I finally go to talk to someone they looked at my stuff and laughed in my face. I told them I wasnt asking for much, but they kept acting as if the sole attempt of selling my things (some of which I used to be quite fond of) insulted them. They gave me a decent price for it (while condescendingly telling me that I was throwing a fit for it - they probably could tell I was bothered but not why), so theres that.Maybe I got them on a bad day, they seem to have a healhy ecosystem, but I have refused to go there since. Id rather drive 30 more minutes for a better LGS.
Cool store with an insane amount of collectibles and comics
Had some cool stuff! Plenty of new and vintage stuff so definitely worth poking around in! You might end up finding more than you were bargaining for (in a fun way!)
Great place for new and old comics. Plus set up a pull box free.
Owner needs to chill out. Store is run down but still cool. However. They HAVE EVERYTHING GEEK IMAGINABLE. A MUST STOP in MI for shops.
Great comic book shop.....
Id give a zero if I could, my husband goes all the time so I tagged along about a week ago and got a GREAT deal(1/2 off) clearance on a variety of trading cards as gifts. I took my 25 yo there on June 19/2020 to buy a Fathers Day gift. Yes, the collection was great and she picked out a number of things totaling about $70. I got four more packs of cards, Mike the owner charged full price $4(then walked away), instead of the clearance $2 and FAILED to give me a receipt. I didnt leave until another employee refunded my $2. Really, TWO LOUSY BUCKS, also the clearance items need to be more clearly marked. I expect the owner would know whats going on in their own store. I probably will NOT be back. My disposable income is such that I try to get the best price. Mike, if you put it on clearance then honor that price.
A whole lot to choose from in one little place had a hard time looking on their backstock but if you got time and patience you may find what you looking for once again another great alternative to look for your toys and your comics
One of the worst experiences of my life do not waste your time with this shop. the owner and workers were extremely rude its like this guy would get annoyed at everything I say.first of all he lowballed me like crazy on my cards. They would get mad if i know more about the value of cards than them which were searched on ebay and when I asked for 5 dollars more he started laughing the old dude seriously needs to step back into reality no respect at all to customer this shop is a joke.
Walmart staff are more helpful and friendly than they are here.
Lots of great collectibles and comics, both modern and retro. Really cool, but kinda cramped so it can be a bit overwhelming.
Loved this huge store packed full of awesomeness!
Not taking any precautions for covid. Every staff member had there masks off or under the chin. The owner Mike is so rude and literally was yelling at the staff and a customer during the whole short 15 mins we were in the shop. My partner and I felt so uncomfortable we left.
Everything youre looking for and I experienced terrific service. Courteous, attentive and knowledgeable. Everything youve been looking for as far as retro toys, too. This place is amazing and having grown up in the 80s, I dont say that lightly. Glad theyre open during C19.
To the people writing bad reviews due to experiences with Mike or his employees:It’s a little hard to explain but this is kind of one of the reasons why we (the regulars) like this place. The attitude is part of the charm. I would totally understand that this may not be for everyone, but I would personally prefer this to another one of the hundreds of places where you’re greeted by a fake smile from a guy/gal who is probably just as grumpy as Mike but is forced to put on a show by their boss.
This went from cool to weird in about 30 minutes. Traveled 4 hours to go to this shop. Bought a few items, prices seemed reasonable. Just going off of number of cards and such, and also looking for boxes of Pokémon, which they have. As I proceed to pay the owner, I assumed, he goes in to a tizzy, saying that its unfair that he has to pay more than his customers to get the cards hes selling back and refuses to sell me certain cards! He had a laptop with ebay maybe at thr register? Wouldnt even tell me a new price or offer me the price marked on the item in my hand. One of the strangest experiences in a small business. You try to support small, willing to spend possible thousands, to get told, oh I think I have to mark everything up so I wont sell you anything. Thanks for ruining my experience. Only reason this doesnt get 1 star is it actually does have alot of items, just watch out for the price changes at checkout!
The staff is helpful. Prices are fair. Theres plenty of everything. I love that place.
Has a lot of great items here, from really old to current. To main high-end figure lines they carry is mezco(mainly)and a few hottoys and sideshow ones.
Today is the last time I shop here! Mike (owner) talks to thecustomers like theyre the most annoying part of his day. I come here and spend lots of money. My experience each time confirms now that this place has lost a good paying customer.
They have a lot of comic books to choose from.
Ive been a customer for over 15 years and absolutely love the customer service and product selection. Highly recommended!
Extremely rude owner. Would never shop there again! Don’t waste your time with this guy
I just went yesterday to sell well over 2,000 brand new Pokémon cards, but when I went there I found that the man helping me was extremely rude. He talked over me, treated my cards poorly, and proceeded to tell me that cards I KNOW were worth at least $600 (in total) weren’t worth practically anything because they were ‘too hard to sell’. I’ve done my fair share of selling pokemon cards, and none of the cards I had were at all hard to sell. After he gave me a price of $100, I asked to bargain and he became much more aggravated and aggressive. I was staying as polite as possible, but it was making me extremely uncomfortable. I ended up trading them all for a box and a few other cards, but I honestly regret it. I won’t be returning to this place for anything; it was a MESS, the man helping me was yelling at people, and I was left with much less than what I came with. He didn’t even give me money for the accessories I came with, and didn’t give them back either! I’m still EXTREMELY upset.
I hadnt been to this shop in 20 years, but I thought taking my daughter up there could be fun. Id forgotten why I hadnt been back; the owner is as greedy and rude as ever. I wont spend another cent on that rip-off artist with so many other BETTER options around. Sad that the years havent made him less of a living incarnation of the jerk comic store owner from The Simpsons.
Good stuff and prices seem fair. Pretty good selection of classic video games - I dont go there for any of the comics, action figures, etc. but others would probably dig it.
I collect and play MTG and this is one of the best stores in the area in terms of inventory and prices. If you are looking for singles, booster packs, booster boxes, etc. this is the place to go.The staff is friendly and I have always been greeted when I came in and asked if I needed help with anything. I think people get the wrong impression and think the staff are aloof or unfriendly because if you are just browsing they allow you to do so in peace unless you ask them a question. Personally, I enjoy that they do that and dont pressure me into buying anything or what not.I encourage anyone to come here and see what it is all about!
If you are interested in magic or pokemon cards, this is for you, and comics. Not so much for baseball cards. But to be fair, they dont claim to be a baseball card hotspot.
One of the best places around for oddities and memorabilia. Helpful staff for finding specific cards if you are into Magic. I feel that you could make a bit more elsewhere if you are selling cards, but the staff and owner are pretty cool people that will help you with any questions or product purchases so Im still giving it 5 stars.
This place has come a long way, but thays not saying much. There used to be layers of dust on everything, but they have cleaned up a bit. You will find all the comics you would want, as well as a bunch of collectibles. The reason Im giving a lower rating is the staff. They just seem like they could care less if your there, and when you need help, they let you know that your being annoying to them. They may cater to the regulars, thats fine. I will take my business to Big Bens in Allen park. Now THATS a world class comic shop.
Always friendly and the store itself is like a brand new treasure hunt every time I go in. Love this place.
Great place everyone was extremely friendly.
Owner is constantly pmsing
A timeless place for me. Been coming here since I was young, and still come at age 24. Very fair when buying and selling. Will actually take the time and go over your items and give you probably the best price a retro store will give you for comics and cards. If you haven’t been here, it’s worth it to come look around
Lots of cool stuff to go through!
Old school video games, comic books, trading cards such as Magic the gathering, baseball and pokemon. Definitely recommend 👌
Owner needs to be more respectful and polite to women customers. Owner and some staff come across as rude and condescending when asked questions! My suggestion for when you have customers in your store:1) notice when someone walks in2) look up at them - yes this means stop reading that comic or sorting your cards3) smile and say hi and maybe even ask a simple question like “hello, anything we can help you find?”If you and your staff did this consistently to every customer you probably wouldn’t be so annoyed when you are “interrupted” with customers approaching you at the checkout with questions. It literally would take you less than 5 seconds to engage in classic business 101 techniques to sell your products. Do not become so high and mighty in believing that your goods can’t be bought other places. Remember that the majority of your customers buy from you to help support local stores in this economy. We could all go to eBay or Amazon without leaving our houses. You need to maintain some GRATITUDE every time someone walks into your store because they chose to support YOU instead of buying somewhere else.
Cant beat their prices.
Excellent location, products, and customer service. Been shopping there for over 12 years.
Neat store for the average nerd. There is something for everyone in here!
Great nostalgia when I walk through the door. It truly is a time machine! Awesome knowledgeable and friendly staff of fellow nerds. God bless you all!
This place is like nerd heaven. I cant believe the amount of comics, toys, games, and collectibles they have crammed into this store. I usually go looking for older D&D books to buy and have been pleasantly surprised when I can find some stuff I am looking for. Sometimes I go just to get nostalgic feelings when I look at toys or lunchboxes from my childhood.
I think this is the only comic shop left from the 90s that ran their own commercials. Their merchandise presentation is awesome! I love walking down the aisles because there is just so much stuff to look at. Usually if I cant find something at my neighborhood comic shop they are my next stop before I try the internet.
Good selection
Always nice people inside, really like coming here
Great group of guys up there, and they get you more for your MTG trades than any other store within a 50 mile radius. Packed full of old and new nerd stuff, so there is always something to look at. Mike runs a darn good store. 5/5
Really good selection of new stuff and old, along with all kinds of new and old merch. Its a perfect comic book shop/antique store for nerds hybrid.
This comic store sell new and used items, Rare and Hard to find collectibles, at fair prices. It worth the drive, if you want to see things from your childhood this store is for you. Comics, trading cards, games, action figures. You have to visit more then once because its alot to take in. Love this store.
Owner was kinda rude. Was trying to haggle on a book. That is what you do at a shop, right? Was polite and simply thought it wouldnt hurt to ask, especially since I was buying other things, as was my buddy. In total we had about 200 dollars in merch. We have both bought from this store before. Many times. We both live an hour a way to come here. When I made my offer, I wasnt low balling, gave an ebay researched offer. I Was flat out told in a condescensing tone to not ask for a discount. I mean he could have at least just said no sorry couldnt do that, or he could have met me in the middle (difference of 5 bucks). Sorry, but there are other shops out there including online. I shouldnt have to drive an hour in the midst and risk of a pandemic to be made to feel like I did something wrong for making a humble offer. Wont be back. Shame.
A lot of cool items ranging from modern lines all the way to vintage comic stuff. It is a tad over whelming trying to look at everything but all and all its very cool place!
It was ok. My grandson enjoyed looking and spending money. Lol
All there stuff is old and over priced, and it always smells like weed when I go in there, I did find two star wars black series figures that are some what new but they want 15 dollars more then store cost, they will still be on the pegs in a year collecting dust like the rest of his stock.
Scam artist.
Perfect place to go if you are looking for 5% of the value youre selling. Everyone who works here is rude, and the owner (Bob Ross looking guy), will try and bundle everything you bring and pay 5% market value. If you dont want to give away select items, he wont buy any of it. They have a decent inventory of products, however after interacting with Bob Ross refuse to even look at anything out of principle. Wouldnt suggest any go here.
