We wish we could give Primal Surf 10 stars! We are so happy with the whole Team! Mike is such a hands on owner, he returns all texts & calls & makes sure anyone that wants to learn to surf, he fits them in! Hes out there on the beach with the kids & parents each day, making sure all the kids have a board & suit!!! And still super personable with all the parents!! We love his positivity & dedication to all his surfers! Our 6 year old son was surfing after his first private lesson with Grace! Today our son was in a group surf lesson with Jesse & he was such a great instructor as well! He made the lesson fun for the kids! We would recommend this surf school! We can’t wait to keep going each summer with Primal surf school!

Hi,While Im not a surfer, I did take note that Mike has a way better personality than his partner.Weve had a family home in Brigantine since 1964 and while I dont live there full time, I always make an effort to stop and make several purchases Last summer I purchased a black dress (which they still had this season).I love the dress but extremely disappointed that its literally falling apart.I wash on delicate and hang to dry! I also made a separate purchase earlier in the season and decided that when I got home it was too short, my next visit went to return and she would not accept the return without the tag, clearly it had not been worn and honestly for the many times Ive been shopping, I thought that was kinda of rude ( Im not a young adult).

Great surf shop! We purchased a few things here during our recent vacation and I really enjoyed chatting with Mike about his beachcombing finds from over the years. The walrus fossil is awesome and so are my new ONeill glasses! Thanks again!

I dont normally write reviews, but we had such a good experience with Mike and the Primal Surf staff I felt I needed to share. We signed our daughter up for surfing lessons with Mike at Primal. She has some significant health issues and we were worried about her being able to physically be able to surf. Mike and his staff worked with her and modified the lesson to help her be successful. She loved it so much and we could not be happier with the service we received from Primal. We ended up buying 2 surf boards and that process was seamless as well. Mike spent a lot time talking with us through which board would be best for our daughters situation. I couldnt be happier with the service we received and the attention and compassion shown by the entire staff. Thank you for making our vacation a memorable experience for our entire family. I couldnt recommend this place more!!!

By far the best Surf Shop on the planet. Great boards, clothes, and a staff that can literally answer any questions when it comes to surfing and fixing your boards.

I went there with my fiancé and toddler because we love to collect surf shop shirts from different places . They had really nice things I was greeted and everything was fine instead of a chill atmosphere the sales girl was following me and my toddler around while my fiancé was shopping on the other side . I used to work in retail and asking someone over 5 times if they needed help was a little annoying at that point I had a feeling she was following me because she must have thought I was going to steal. It made me super uncomfortable and it was a little too aggressive for someone that works at a surf shop. We own a business and would never treat people as such . My toddler was also having a meltdown over shoes and at that point while he was having a major meltdown she just staring at me and my son . I gave 4 stars because I don’t believe in bashing business but the owner definitely needs to talk to her sales girl about making people feel comfortable and not being so aggressive.

I wanted a couple new pairs of bathing trunks and decided to stop here for the first time on my way into Brigantine. I called ahead to make sure they carried the brand Vissla — he said they did — and if they had a decent selection of size 32, to which he replied Id have to come in and look because they have a lot of bathing suits. Ok, fair enough. When I arrived, not only didnt they have any Visslas in size 32, they actually had NO size 32s at all! What surf shop is completely out of a bathing suit size halfway through the summer? I just wish someone wouldve taken a 10-second trip to the rack to let me know this when I called instead of coming in only to be disappointed and leaving with nothing. I was going to give 1 star, but gave 3 because the girl working there was friendly and helpful anyway.

Great shop for surfers, but this hidden (side street) gem has top quality clothes and accessories (hats**jewelry**sunglasses) for all beach go-ers!

Mike and Susie are just awesome. A great surf shop and location. Mikes knowledge in the Sup game (stand up paddle boards) is second to none.

Primal is the best!! Mike and Sue who own the shop know their stuff. They are great surfers themselves and love sharing their knowledge. The surf lessons and top notch with great instructors some who are even surf champion competitors!! The shop has everything you need and Mike and Sue are the nicest people on the planet. They can assist you with anything you need! Boards, paddle boards, clothing, etc. I wouldnt go anywhere else and would drive here from any surf town to purchase from them!!!

Mike was amazing. It was my first time out on the ocean and he made everything comfortable and easy for such a challenging sport to try. His clear love for surfing and deep affinity for the ocean is infectious and with what I learned I will be definitely be back to try again. Thanks Mike!

The last time I surfed was 1969. Just retired and wanted to get back to surfing. Had a private lesson with Mike. After one hour I was up on my board. Mike was very helpful and knowledgeable. If you are a beginner or trying to get back to the sport, I highly recommend a private lesson with Mike. I am doing a group lesson with Mike tomorrow and looking forward to learning more about wave selection and faster pop up. Ill be back on to give more feedback as my learning with Mike, Sue and the crew at Primal Surf continues thru the summer.

We couldnt have asked for a better experience with Primal Surf Shop! A friend and I rented a soft top board for the day ($25). Relaxed environment and friendly, helpful people. I accidentally left my phone outside the shop and did not realize until later that night. Though the shop had been long closed, I was able to get a hold of the owner Susan and her husband and they were SO understanding and helpful and had the phone returned to me (fully charged might I add!) before I had to head home that night. Well certainly be back!
