Highly recommend this place! Had the Brussel sprouts, garlic fries, and the brisket/ground beef burger with barbecue sauce. Huge portions! All was extremely delicious! I was actually disappointed when I couldnt finish my burger due to the appetizers. Also the burger came with homemade warm kettle chips-yummy! Service from the waiter was very good too. Food did not come fast but was well worth the wait. Recommend making online reservations and allowing ~90 minutes start to finish. Will most definitely go back...repeatedly so I can try more things on the menu.

Awesome burger got the good morning burger was pretty amazing. We will definitely be back. We got here at about 10:45. No one else in restaurant but us. Great service but did take about 35-40 minutes to get food. But it is a big thick burger to cook. Then we finished it off with some vanilla gelato. Awesome meal. We don’t live here yet, but when we do we will probably be regulars.

Before I completely destroyed this meal, it was a Turtle Burger with Cheese Fritters. The food was absolutely amazing. Savory, perfectly flavored, and an AMAZING atmosphere. Definitely a place to chill and actually enjoy a nice meal and conversation with your significant other. Wine selection was surprisingly much larger than I expected.The place is separated into two sections, one is more of a restaurant style, more quiet; the other is a small bar, with a good mix of music playing.Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would totally come back here again, hands down!!

We decided to try something different and arrived at 5pm for a Tuesday meal. We pretty much had private dining at least 30 mins before another table was seated. Food was homemade and wonderful. Service was kind and attentive. We actually had forgotten how to have a quiet, relaxed and enjoyable meal until we walked into the Turtle.We will be back soon!!

High quality food and service!I had a delicious Turtle Burger and their mint chocolate Gelato, it was all divine! The server was knowledgeable and Informative, overall was a splendid meal and Ill be returning!

Appetizer was good but not great. Dinner was very good. There was a little bit of a snafu with the coffee and dessert which resulted in desert with no coffee. Overall very happy with the dining experience.

Appropriately named, the food is freshly cooked, so its slow, but very worth it. Country gourmet is how Id describe their eggs benedict, and their gluten-free rice-based waffles were pretty good. They also serve gelato that looked really good. If you find yourself in the town with time to kill, I recommend a visit.

Had a party of 13 for a team dinner here. It was not a good experience.To be fair it does say slow on the sign and it is named The Turtle, didnt realize they were being literal.*The restaurant was out of several food items and beverages but still let us order them. Its okay to be out of certain items but you need to know that.*Everything took a long time. Food, drinks, general service etc...the staff didnt seem to care.*Appetizers had cold centers.*Out of our entire party only 1 person enjoyed the main dishes. From the pasta to the steak it was terrible.*We would have returned the food to the kitchen but we had already so long.

Absolutely loved stopping at the place during a weekend day trip. We had lunch there, then ended driving back through town for a drink in the bar. They have a restaurant, gelato and chocolate shop with coffee, and a bar in three adjoining building sections.

Weve been to The Turtle Restaurant several times, but only to indulge on their Gelato. Oh my goodness, this is the most delicious gelato weve ever had. This last time we stopped in, I got Strawberry Cheesecake and Lemon Lavender Gelato. My husband got Lemon Lavender and Peanut Butter with crunchy chocolate chips. Everything was crazy delicious. The lady that helped us was very nice and helpful. The shop was clean and everything is made fresh with new flavors frequently. This is a must stop!!! Enjoy!

Beautiful independent restaurant. Great atmosphere for a date. Had a nice waitress who gave us space but was still attentive. These people work for tips and need our help with all that has happened with covid in 2020. Go see them.

Very unimpressed. Our waiter/bartender was very nice and seemed to keep up with us fairly well. However we were there for two hours waiting for a pizza and two burgers. Even on a “slow food” scale this is really unacceptable. But the time frame was the least of our issues once we received our food. The “Spanish Chorizo” pizza was lacking in taste and chorizo. It was honestly a pizza topped with summer sausage and tasteless cheese. A Walmart lunchable would honestly be better. The Lindsey Burger was supposed to have everything besides mustard, pickles and onions. It arrived plain and dry. Over all we spent 2 hours and $15 per meal to leave hungry but very hydrated. Honestly, We expected much more.

Had dinner here last night with my husband and 2 daughters. 1st off ignore all the 1 star reviews. The place has the best steak i have ever had. Even compared to steaks ive had in downtown Houston fine dining. Quality Quality Quality! You cant put a price on it! The prices in my opinion are no more than going to any steak house for dinner. My 10 year old was fighting me for the thai meatballs; delicious! I was fighting my husband for his steak. The fried pimento cheese and the jam; delicious! Our waitress was amazing as well! Had gelato after dinner and the kids loved it! Great wine options!

Be aware that this is considered “slow food,” but it’s totally worth it! Our bartender, Drex, had a very busy evening, but remained cool and calm. Delicious drinks and a huge variety of wines. We ate at the bar and had a great, chill time.

WOW WOW WOW! We were just passing through Brownwood and needed dinner. We were blown away by the amazing quality and service! We added this place to our favorites and we will definitely be stopping here again next time were in town. Thank you!

Waited an hour and a half for food. It was on a weekday and it was not busy at all. Spent $50 on a steak that was burnt and the lasagna was also burnt. Don’t have any idea what all the rave is about. Will not be going back.

Made a reservation so the wait to sit was no problem, however, it felt like we were forced to be there for so long. To get our order took 30 mins then another hour for them to make the food and us to eat. The food though was delicious! I ordered the spicy pork tenderloin & it was so soft & juicy. Def don’t regret eating there.

Amazing steak. I think the Google price guide is off but the food is so worth the price. My mother in law got a traditional German dish and she said it tasted just like she remembered getting in Germany.

Ideal restaurant with quiet atmosphere for visiting over a leisurely well appointed meal. Also good to drop by for Gelato. More casual offerings in the separate bar with bar menu. Good cocktails and wine selection.

Not the worst place ever, but not the best. The interior is a bit plain but thats not a huge issue, the wait time was also long but that was expected. You can tell they do care about their food and put in effort, but price to portion size is not worth it. The gelato is really the only thing I would recommend coming here for.

I went here for the first time and enjoyed the Pimento Cheese Fritters as an appetizer and would highly recommend the Honey Butter Pecan Chicken!Madison was an attentive server and she was able to provide great dining/beverage recommendations. I definitely would return here again due to the great service, food, and environment.

Could not figure out where the entrance was because there’s three of them. Called before to make sure there wasn’t a wait. He said to just come and there were tables. Once we got there they told us it would be an hour wsit. So we left esp since no table had food. Understaffed.

We really enjoy this place! Fantastic for date nights, adult birthday parties, and Mary will even make a special cake for the party! I highly recommend the honey pecan roasted chicken or the good morning burger! Also, the gelato is award-winning-YUMMY! Such a special place to us.

Super Burger was one of the most incredible Ive ever had (white cheddar, bacon, grilled onions, & jalapenos that actually have decent kick) Was looking for soup & salad to keep it light, but this place looked special so figured I had to try it, & it was amazing. Whole menu looks like each dish is of highest quality & superb flavor. As soon as I had first bite of burger, I knew I was abandoning plan to only eat half.....Very well curated & expansive liquor, wine & beer selections.

Service was very slow even though we were the only customers. The prices are very high. They say kid friendly and only had one booster chair. The pizza had no flavor. They said they had a kid burger, but it was a regular size and priced burger.I wont be back.

Turtle took great care of us while we were in town! We were stranded by the flooding, car-less, unsure of our future and the whole town seemed to rally for my wifes birthday! Awesome food, great staff, incredible atmosphere! The bartender was excellent, took great care of everyone in the place! Will be a regular stop when we go this direction! Thank you!

Wonderful food! In a calm dining experience, not a rushed meal This is our go-to restaurant for the last 6 years. Dont forget to save room for desert. A reservation is recommended for larger tables.

My husband and I stopped to eat lunch at The Turtle in Brownwood today. Our Akaushi (the best Wagyū beef there is) burgers were cooked perfectly medium-rare as we requested. The accompanying chips were light and crisp. The restaurant was cozy and quiet; our server was an absolute doll. For dessert, we tried the Lavender lemon gelato and it was the absolute best gelato that I’ve ever eaten. Please note: I live in Dallas and the big city gelato shops can’t touch this one with a 10-foot pole! It is light, wonderfully creamy and refreshing! With all the aforementioned being said, I hope you give this place a try the next time you’re in Brownwood!

We had a delectable dinner for my grandmothers 85th birthday. Service was wonderful and the food was amazing! While each of our dishes (appetizer, salad, and entrees) were wonderful, the dessert we had was worth writing home about. We had the apricot bread pudding...best bread pudding I have had anywhere!

Worth the drive.. Amazing!! I will remember my meal here forever. Try the torte, its delightful. The Italian sodas are a nice compliment to the menu. Beer selection was in excellent taste.

This is an excellent restaurant. On par with a fine dinning restaurant in a large city. It can be a little slow at times, but when I go there I am not looking for fast food! Everybody mentions the great wine list, but I am even more impressed with their fine beer list! This establishment has the finest beer list you will find without having to drive to Austin or Dallas. They also have a great little bar on the side of the restaurant where you can get a drink and a snack. I am in the draft beer business and know beer styles well. You wont be disappointed!

Food is good. If you dont mind waiting minimum hour and a half for it. Been twice. The wait was same both times. This last time I never got my food, which was an appetizer which I ordered first. After an hour and a half, looked over, everyone got food, except!, my 6 years old grand daughter and myself, still! Really? You cant even make sure children get their food? However, only other table that came in 30 minutes after us, got great service with only two men! Service is terrible! Will never go back, will not recommend even though was ok. Service is important and if I have to wait two hours, it better be damn good.

We had our wedding dinner here after we got married at the Star of Texas bed and breakfast and it was amazing! They let us come in early to decorate and the food was INCREDIBLE. We chose steak, garlic mashed potatoes, salad, veggies and bread for our guests, and everyone was soooo full! No one could leave steak behind no matter how full! There was only one server because another didnt show and she worked her BUTT OFF! They did such an amazing job to make this evening special for my husband and I and we just wanted to say thank you!

I like the sweets and coffee. Service is excellent. Price is a little out of my range, but an anniversary only comes once a year!! I guess $67 wasnt too bad. The steaks were an inch thick!! Kudos To the cook!! I will return for gelato!!

High end chef created cuisine. Id go to Brownwood just to eat there. Theres an enocoteca room perfect for wine tastings (or you can pair with a meal) this Chef Mary has won various awards in Austin competitions for gelato! did I mention an independent but connected gelateria to rival any Ive had in Rome (Italy) not Rhome. this place is an oasis in a land of heart challenging fried and chicken fried. The atmosphere is light bright and friendly. I can imagine that in summer months dining on the patio would rival my favorite family restaurant in the parioli section of rome... tre sorelle (3 sisters). everything is fresh made and absolutely delicious and well worth the trip or stop enroute or returning from Austin. dont miss it. remember to thank me for the tip!

Had a great time and food was great. My only issue was why are all the staff drinking? My bar tender had 4 glasses of wine literally while me and my boyfriend where there.. Your wine isnt cheap why let your staff use it as there own liquor store? Really enjoyed the trainee tho the older guy with the bun, he was very nice and the most welcoming staff we encountered and was the only one who wasnt drinking your supply.

This restaurant has an exquisite food and wine menu - better than most places you’d see in Houston, Dallas etc. A true gem, and the food is delicious. I’d go out of my way to stop here.
