My daughter and son-in-law purchased a home from Cousin Gary in Chico. Heres how it went...Good communication when they are trying to make a sale. Complete and utter lack of communication once that sale was made. Purchased in Jan 2019. Cash deposited in Escrow for the entire cost. After multiple calls with zero response to find out the status, they had go in person to the showroom the week before it was delivered in early June 2019 to know WHEN it was going to be delivered. In order to get ANY communication from Cousin Garys, Josie or Bob, they had to show up in the office in person. Period. Phone calls were not answered or returned.Once the home was delivered in early June 2019, the family planned a celebration for July 4 - wasnt complete; Labor day - wasnt complete. Thanksgiving - wasnt complete. Christmas - wasnt complete. New Years - wasnt complete. SEVEN MONTHS of lack of communication, lack of follow through, lack of action. SEVEN MONTHS of commitment after commitment missed. SEVEN MONTHS of run around, broken promises and complete lack of integrity by anyone on behalf of this company.Escrow CLOSED in Oct. The house was NOT completed when escrow closed. On Thanksgiving there was still no eaves, no AC, it wasnt not cleaned and it was set up for natural gas vs propane (always on the spec sheet). It took until AFTER Christmas for the cleaning crew to come out.Every time Josie had to be contacted in person in their office and she seemed surprised the her personally committed inspections were not done, her personally committed repairs were not done, her personally committed cleaning crew hadnt shown up...and shed personally commit to getting it done. Zero integrity. The permit EXPIRED without a final inspection or Certificate of Occupancy and had to be renewed. The final inspection was completed today, March 10, 2020 - 14 months after escrow opened, 9 months after delivery.Unless you plan to sit in their office daily to make sure they do what they say they are going to do you should give Cousin Gary a big pass. They turned a highly anticipated new home into a painfully long extended experience.

We got suckered in by the smooth talking salesman at Cousin Gary Homes in Chico. The worst part of the whole thing isnt even the self proclaimed Over Stressed Bob, who keeps telling you to relax, and dont over react. Or even the disrespectful, liar of a manager Josie who will tell you that you the customer are wrong. It was the worthless contractor they use. We were lead to believe that they Cousin Gary Homes  held $7,000 from the price of the home so we could pay Their Contractor directly for set up and delivery in order to save us on Taxes... Then he Jim Fields Construction submitted a bid to us for $6,500, so we thought we got a great deal. WRONG!!! What they didnt tell us was he still wanted the $7,000 and another $7,600 for the so called foundation blocks cinder block because that is apparently not part of set up? So instead of paying $6,500 or even $7,000 we are now paying $15,600 for all the extra work such as putting the skirting around the house, or stairs up to the doors so we could get in. This stuff to them is all EXTRA the set up and delivery is only getting the two halves to your property and screwing them together.... Oh ya, and I kept a log on how much they actually came out and worked on our house. In the two months it took to get it set up  they had a grand total of 62 hours between 3 guys, and we still had to finish the work ourselves...... Jim Fields Construction is a joke!! They must have a contract with Cousin Gary and you are not told you have any other choice, but them.

Welp, About two years in and weve already experienced a catastrophic failure of the plumbing. Unfortunately a substantial leak has developed under the master bath that has completely saturated the under-structure insulation and destroyed the moisture barrier in that corner of the home. Due to Cousin Garys contractor (Jim Fields Crew), the shipping tongues were stored underneath the home (read previous reviews on yelp) and have all but completely inhibited access to that location underneath the home. The only way to locate and repair the leak was to completely remove the skirt, associated framing and pull out the shipping tongues. Worse yet, upon removing the insulation, we discovered exposed spools of wire with compromised sheath and uncapped terminal ends that create a significant fire hazard. The only options available to you after your 12 mos warranty is to do the repairs yourself (extensive time and labor, not to mention materials) or hire a third party contractor/plumber capable of working on manufactured home which is going to cost you a large sum of money. A collection of poor craftsmanship from Skyline combined with shod work from the dealers contractor will invariably leave you frustrated and out some coin. I stand by my initial review and recommend avoiding this dealer and the homes they sell. If you do decide to go with their services, you better be diligent within the first year and scrutinize every facet of you home and have it repaired before your warranty expires. Good luck, cause if you go with skyline and cousin Gary homes, your gonna need it.

Update 9/27/17-Ensure you procure itemized lists that are not vague and ask to see material and labor costs to insure you are getting industry standards for labor rates and material costs. Though you shouldnt have to crawl under your home after purchase, I highly recommend you do so before signing your final draw forms. At no time did the staff at CGH take the initiative and contact us to inquire about our satisfaction with the home, or to address any of the issues with the home. As I stated in my previous review, I was and am not confident that these issues would be addressed in a quality workmanship manner or in a timely manner. I told Josie that the review would remain and suggested that good quality customer service with future clients would inspire them to leave more positive feedback on yelp and render my review, over time, an irrelevant exception. No further entries.

Bob at Cousin Garys is a most awesome salesman as he simply informs and asks questions, not pushing his product at all but the product sells itself! Thinking of building a home? Its worth a trip to Cousin Garys!!

I hope youre in for a long read. I will try to be as objective as I can, but given the quality of service, my disposition is less than favorable at the time of writing this review. From the beginning of the process i.e. looking through the models, the customer service and the attentiveness to your wishes, cousin Gary excels. However, once the funding is secured, it declines, rapidly. While our area was inundated with water this last winter, delaying our project, the salesman Bob, and his manager Josie were terrible at customer service relations and communication. As a paramedic, Im used to derogatory comments and disrespectful communication methods towards me, but not from a dealership I just gave $239k. Bob (the salesman) will remind you of how overwhelmed he is and stressed out he is with other projects that the idea of conveying a concern or inquiring about your project/home is guilt ridden, making it even more difficult to broach issues in the future. My speculation is that every conversation with him will lead to him attempting to illicit empathy from you in order to detract you from your complaints and deter you from approaching him in the future. When you do vocalize a concern, hell diminish your concern and tell you not to get excited and blow you off. Attempts to pin him down for specifics will just lead you to insincere ambiguity and inconsistent information. The contractor that they use is a respectable and nice enough guy, however youll have a better time getting a hold of the present dictator of the republic of Congo than you do getting a hold of him. The work his crew provides is good, but not on par with the price. As far as the construction of the home, it was as expected for a work in progress, and is looking to be a great home (which is not a reflection of Cousin Gary homes, but Skyline the manufacturer). There are significant workmanship issues with the improvements around it (deck, debris from construction etc) and when I brought them up to the manager I was essentially told its what you payed for, its what you get, and is non negotiable. Even after I tactfully requested that she stop infantilizing me during one conversation, she continued to despite me asking her. I once called the owner of the dealership, which to be honest, I did notice a change in professional affect of the staff, but was disappointingly short lived. If youre interested in looking for a manufactured home, I implore you to search else where, well out of the area if possible. This was my first time securing a home loan and buying a house and this process has been so stressful and poorly managed by the staff at Cousin Gary that I am regretting this purchase and the reality that I have to communicate with them for future service requests and repairs is frightening. In the end, spend your money else where. I guarantee anywhere else would be a better investment.
