The mechanic here is so knowledgeable and helpful. He is hard to find yet has a lot of customers. This can only means that he is a good mechanic. Hes replacing my catalytic converter for a lower quote than other shops.

Ive taken my truck to Firestone to have it fix they couldnt solve it. I said really its a 1990 toyota pick up. So ive heard from a friend. A1 smog, and repair are experienced mechanics, within and hour got a response whats wrong with my vehicle. It was simple the distributor cap wasnt installed correctly. So I went there and didnt know my check engine light didnt work. He made me sit there while he did all of smog check, which all passed with flying colors. When everything was all done he mentions to me that my check engine light bulb does not work. After stating that it is usually the first check but he forgot to check, he fails me. Then he tells me to come back and he wont retest for free. He continues to try to make it seem like he is doing me a favor and gives me a $20 discount. He should have been upfront & honest but decided to charge me twice. I have take multiple vehicles to him but never again. Id rather drive further out of Davis then deal with this lack of experience and professionalism again.

Our car originally did not pass smog due to a non-California stamped catalytic converter. The owner pointed out the problem to my wife and did not charge her for the test (he could have but didnt). So, after getting the converter replaced, we brought the car back to A-1. Car passed without problems. Competitive pricing. Quick service. Good business. Bonus: the owner has a super-sweet dog that hangs out in the shop.

I was here to get my 94 Toyota Camry Smog Tested before renewing the registration. I called several other shops before going to this place, there price was much lower. I brought my 1982 Toyota pick up truck in for a smog 2 years ago. While the owner was running the tests, a tire blew. He replaced the tire, but the new tire didnt match the other 3. I asked him about it, and naively accepted his explanation. A year later, a friend noticed my mismatched tires: the smog shop owner not only had not matched the brand, but had put a mud and snow tire on. I had to buy 4 new tires. Not cool.

Ive had all 3 of my trucks smogged with Jon at A1 smog and could not be happier with the service and the affordability. He has always been able to get me in and out, in under 20 minutes. I can say with confidence that he will be the only guy I will take my trucks to for as long as I can.

Very professional and friendly owner / operator. Ive brought all 3 of our vehicles here this year and only had to wait 1 time ( and that was only for a short period). Location is tricky to find the first time, since the shop is in the back of the old car dealership. Bring doggie treats and youll have a friend for life - youll see.

Jon is honest fair and can help you with your smog needs... they have recently started a repair/maintenance so if you need to get your vehicles brakes checked or replaced they can handle that as well

Because of renovations to the shop, his instrument to measure smog on cars older than 1999 was malfunctioning, so I had to go elsewhere after waiting for the car in front of me. So, if you have an old car, you might want to use a larger shop.
