Finally had a chance to try The Custard Hut after constantly hearing about how the hot waffle sandwich is to die for. I drove all the way from Oak Park to Dearborn to get my hands on one. The building is small, probably only holds 15 people comfortably and the parking lot is even smaller. I highly recommend parking on the street. We arrived on a Thursday around 8:30pm and it was pretty crowded to the point the people behind us had to wait outside. We all ordered a hot waffle sandwich. They have different flavors of waffles (I went with cinnamon), different flavors of custard (twist is always a favorite) and then toppings. $5 for a waffle ice cream sandwich isnt bad. I took one bite and fell in love. Ive never had anything like it before.Their menu is pretty big and the service was great and friendly...however there is a chance that I may have just gone on a good day compared to other recent reviews that experienced poor service. I hate that its so far away, but the drive is definitely worth it.

If I could rate the place a negative fraud I would. Nothing cold and refreshing about my purchase. I ordered the weekly or daily special chocolate cake. It should have been called imitation chocolate foam. Worst ice cream/custard ever, not to mention over priced. I paid $11.10 for this item with not hint of cake or chocolate flavor and a tin roof... Love that they have soft serve custard and scooped ice cream, the variety is always amazing. Their flavor of the week combos are always interesting, have a really nice, subtle flavor. Check them out!

Quality has gone down the last couple of years. Waffle is inconsistent, most recently it was soggy compared to burnt the last time. I’ll give it another try.

Very satisfied with my waffle sandwich. The custard was creamy and t just the right sweetness. I wish they had indoor seating since it was hot outside and had to eat it real lk y fast so it wouldnt melt everywhere. This is about a 35 minute drive for me to get to and I would say it is worth the drive for this

Need help with line control at their busy times or signs that say keep the door shut so people are not pushing each other around. Other then that it was a great experience! Waffle was hot, soft and crunchy, cereal was fresh, crispy. Ice cream delish. Would recommend and definitely return for some more good treats!!

You know going out for ice cream is something that’s supposed to be enjoyable! What happened to serving ice cream and greeting people with a smile. Did not feel welcome.I took my kids here yesterday. After celebrating all day from the news that my 4year old has no evidence of disease. After two years of battling cancer. As soon as I walked in the girls just had a bad attitude. Not friendly at all, very snappy. Horrible customer service.after I ordered They said my kids can go wait outside while I wait for my ice cream inside.My kids mind you are 2,4,5Seven and nine. My older one was wearing his mask as was I.There’s plenty of ice cream shops that have amazing customer service. They can keep their eggo waffles.Not worth it. Judging by all the other 1 star reviews on yelp, I’m not the only one that feels this way.

First time visiting. I got the hot waffle sandwich with nutella, banana, strawberries, vanilla custard and a strawberry waffle. It was soooooo good!! I ended up getting a second one because my kids and husband ate mine.

Custard was ok but the stuck up staff and horribly incorrect menu ruined it. They dont even have half of the things they offer. Not to mention the large glob of glue from the cone sleeve half way down my cone

Absolutely overrated. Rude, impatient, non helpful female staff.... one only in particular. My first time there I was so excited to go and was disappointed. Waste of a drive, time, flavors, options, and money... If the customer service was better i may have overlooked the lack of menu presentations. Wont be back and definitely wont refer. Customer service goes a long way.

The ice cream/custard is delicious as you would expect. The real draw at custard hut though are the waffles. Custard between fresh cooked waffles, fantastic.The store is tiny and the line is often out the door, but it moves quickly considering the relative complexity of the sandwiches.

Stay away! The customer service is horrible. They look down on you like they know all about COVID and CDC requirements. If they don’t want anyone in their store (which is how I felt) then they need to invest in a drive thru or simply shut down! They’re going to have a rush of bad reviews because something has definitely changed that place. Dairy Queen is just down the street with better tasting ice cream and great customer service! Will never go there again and will make sure to tell my family and friends!

It was my first time and gonna be the last. Staff are very rude. If i could leave a zero star i would definitely do that for their customer service, Especially that tall guy who does not appreciate his customers and apparently doesnt know that his place is running because of us.

Ok so Good custard.. HOWEVER, Ive been coming here for a couple of years and the manager and staff are not warm. The manager is always stern, not friendly, she doesnt smile or act like she appreciates her customers. I always get that vibe when I visit. Its just not a warm or inviting atmosphere. And because of that..I am not returning nor will I refer. I will spend my money elsewhere and support businesses that show appreciation for their customers. There is great custard at other venues!

Hole in the wall place with delicious waffle custard ice-cream sandwich. Doesnt just taste good but who doesnt love a gram-worthy moment. Whatever you order will be photogenic and tasty. Lots of room to park. Is good for a snack just like any ice cream parlor, isnt a meal when youre hungry btw even though its a sandwich!

To die for ice cream. soft serve so rich in that essential for good ice cream, soft or frozen. That ingrediant is *butterfat* baby. I wish they were open all year. Alas, they are closed *well before* the leaves are all dropped, with plenty of warm days to spare. Truth be known, Id go there in January. This place has a incredible reputation for the best. Long lines and wait times attest to this each year, for like decades.

She has olive complected skin and dark hair and eyes looks like she is probably 45 maybe a little younger but not by much... anyways she is SUPER RUDE, SNAPPY, acts like you are INCONVENIENCING her.Oh well, Figured I can just toast some egos and throw some ice cream on there and call it a day.

Custard is great, but the line here is always insane. Absolutely ridiculous. The process needs to be streamlined. Again, its really good, but prepare to WAIT. Also, if you dont have any cash but you want to tip, they can add a tip when they run your card if you request it.

The waffle sandwich sucked. Don’t know why it had good reviews. Waffle wasn’t homemade, it was an eggo waffle and it wasn’t hot, it was cold and dried out.

Excellent frozen Custard and even better service. This is a Motor City treasure that cant be missed if youre visiting and an absolute destination for locals who dont venture outside of their usual enclaves. Theres not much else to do nearby except bowling, but Ill say it very much worth going out of your way for.

This was the worst establishment I have ever stepped into the owner is terrible. Just an unhappy person. She was annoyed that we were there. Just a nasty woman with a nasty attitude. I walked out. My stomach was turning I couldn’t even order. I almost feel bad for her. Like she needs treatment. NEVER coming here again!!!!

Zara the owner has by far the worst attitude I have come across in customer service.Didnt greet us, talked down to us when we asked about ice cream flavors. Refused to put two flavors together. Best frozen custard and decent prices. Sometimes the wait is long because it is so popular. I havent been able to find toasted coconut topping elsewhere, my favorite.

Huge line, this place is popping. The custard is pretty good. I tried the flavor of the week: pistachio and toasted coconut. But they have lots of other ice creams and shakes and things. The best part is the waffle. Definitely get it on the waffle sandwich

Well, one of our favorite places to visit when we go to michigan. But will no longer be visiting this place again. They said we couldnt have a party larger than 2 inside. Our family is 5. That was cool. But my wife goes in to get the childrens ice cream, and when she comes out, i go to go in for the rest of our order, and as im walking in, worker tells me that a family who is still 15 feet from the entrance was there before me. So i had to wait for another whole family to get theirs and by the time i got to get mine, The children were done eating. Ruined the family experience. Milk shake was iight. I would recommend dairy queen over custard hut.

I usually love this place. Its worth the long lines. However, today it took over minutes. I started to notice that large groups that came in after me received their order. I asked how much longer on my blueberry waffle with the flavor of the day. The young lady went to check and then asked me what my order was. I was very upset because the people I came with had gotten their order and finished and could no longer wait. I am grateful I was able to get a refund. Just disappointed that my order was pushed to the side/ forgotten. 🤦🏾‍♀️🤷🏾‍♀️

Very good ice cream with an excellent taste. It gets crowded so be prepared for a little wait. The waffles are made fresh for each order and each week they offer a featured flavor custard. Well worth the drive from Belleville.

This place is so good. Like it was made for all to enjoy. They have a wide selection of different ice creams and soft serve that will make it hard to decide what to try so I would recommend that you go there more than three times. Long lines make it worth the wait but then again this us my opinion. So go there and try it yourself. Start off with a waffle sandwich first then decide what toppings you would favor the most.Example: Strawberry Waffle with vanilla custard topped with more strawberries and nutella. Yup that was so good. Thank you.
