Have been a stable staple around Howard county for as long as I can remember. Good people with the stuff I need. Its that simple.

Knowledgeable staff, went to big brand shop looking for lawn supplies to only be disappointed at the lack of supplies had one thing but not the other. Then decided to venture to Southern States was greated at the door offered assistance and out the door with everything I needed in less then 10 minutes.

Staff was very very helpful and knowledgeable of what I was interested in purchasing.

Ive been coming here for years. For the most part, good service. Unfortunately, Tom has gotten more and more rude as time goes on. He acts as if it is a bother to help when I go there or call. He has actually fussed at me for calling in an order 2 hours before they close, because he said I am calling to close to their closing for the day. I honestly do this so that I do not come in contact with people, during Covid. Even though they are out of my way, I have continued to patronize their business out of loyalty - so they get my money. If his attitude continues to be so negative, I will switch to another southern states.

Well, I wanted to drop by and support small business instead going to Home Depot, but man did I make a big mistake. As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with distaste. Everyone was extremely rude, judging and acted like we did not belong. We will never go back. What a shame!

Decent prices for dog food.

For a smaller southern states, this place is well stocked and has many items that other ones do not. Additionally I always try to support small/local businesses and John has ran this store for at least 10 years. I enjoy hearing his friendly greeting anytime I enter the store and him and Tom do that with everyone.

I love Southern States. The staff is friendly and helpful. I get garden supplies from there. I got a bunch of tomatoes and peppers for cheap.

Good service and prices.

We find this to be the best place for all the soil amendments we need for our garden. So many better options than the big bix stores. Staff are super knowledgeable and helpful.

Good options for birds and farm animals feed. Customer service is nice but a smile counts alot.

This is a no frills, get what you need kinda store. They have a large selection of various products, and their pricing is competitive. I have only ever had one bad incident, where I called ahead and was told they had a certain brand in stock, but when I showed up I was told they dont knew who told me that, because they had never carried that brand. An alternative brand was purchased without further incident.

I pickup organic chicken food here along with wild bird seed. They carry all kinds of feed for horses and other livestock, including dog and cat food. Please support these local businesses.

Good place to buy onion starts, seed potatoes and a ton of supplies & feed for farm livestock. Feels good supporting small rural stores like this versus big box.

Theres wisdom in that there store. And theyre glad to share it.

Geared more towards real farmers but great for those serious gardeners.

Just what you expect from a Southern States. Lots of farm supplies, dog food and animal feed, horse tack, etc. Also, lawn care and bird seed, propane refills, and its the best place to buy straw bales. The guy behind the counter says everythings for sale except the cats.

Uncomfortably helpful staff if you’re used to a big box store. I bought some horse stall mats for my garage and they helped fold them up to get in my small hatchback. I was surprised and pleased to see that they sold Dimension without fertilizer, so I’ll be back soon for their help in fighting crabgrass come spring. Their selection seems limited but more intentional, so I see myself coming back here as often as makes sense.

I like their products but both employees I interacted with on my latest visit were incredibly unfriendly and condescending. Not what I remember or expected from previous experiences.

This place was great!! The guys working service though were dressed a little weird in white sheets. They had name tags. I talked to Grande Wizard who was very helpful in picking out a new pair of tightie whities. I cut them one star because I really didnt want the matching white hood and he really pushed it on me. So i bought it. I got a free rebel flag pin for my purchase. That was a nice gesture. After wearing my new drawers for a day my southern areas are in a state of confusion. Not really that comfortable. Drop them another star.

Friendly staff but hours arent convenient. Closing at 5:00 and not open on Sundays is hard to get to from Catonsville. I try to buy local but find myself going to Glen Burnie more often than not because of the hours.
