Very good service day or night.
Horrible experience with this company. We bought a new house last year, 2019. We hired them since then to supply us with oil, which we use for heating and hot water. Last week on Tuesday, the company came at 7:30AM and filled our oil tank, according to our invoice 108 gal. That same day at 8:30AM when trying to use the hot water, we realized our boiler was not working. We checked the oil tank, we showed to be full. Called Petro to have a technician stop by, but Petro never returned our called. We called a different company, since we wanted the hot water and heating working again. A technician from the different company came to inspect the boiler and said for some reason the boiler was full of water instead of oil, and he suspected it was a problem with the oil tank. So, after charging us $500 he recommended to call Petro. Petro comes by the next day, and they realize there are ~100 gal of water in our oil tank. Later that day Petro sends people to pump the water out of the tank and fix the boiler. The technicians pump more than 100 gal or water+oil, and get the boiler going (the boiler broke again that night). At the end of this saga, Petro fixes our boiler and gets the more than 100 gal of water out of the oil tank. They send me an invoice for +$600 (250 for oil and 350 for repairs). I called them to say I wont be paying those charges as it was them who cause the issue, getting water in our tank. They accused us of having people being mad at us, and presumably those people filled our tank with water. They accepted to omit the $350 charge for repairs, but expect us to pay for the water they filled our tank with. I have wasted so much time trying to get this resolved. Unacceptable. I do not recommend this company, and plan to file a complaint with the BBB.EDIT: Petro was kind to contact me a few minutes ago. It appears they will not be charging us for the oil/water they filled our tank. The continue to investigate this issue, but in the meantime they will send someone to fill our tank, with oil. We hope things improve.EDIT2#: It has been now 3 weeks since this whole saga initiated. Turns out Petro continued charging me for the 100 gallons of water they poured into our tank! I have called more than 6 times to request for the charge to be removed, but all they do is attempt to contact the supervisor. We are definitely changing companies!
Dead blower, no air conditioning in 90 some degree heat 80% humidity. Excellent service., very nice service techs. Answered alllll my dumb questions . Very grateful for their patience and work . Service plan covered everything. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Theyre fine. Theyre always fine. I never have to think about any of this except when it comes to renewing my contract. There is a blessed lack of drama to it all.
Ive had an account with Petro for over 10 years. Over a period like that weve certainly had an opportunity to establish a pattern. Petro has consistently taken excellent care of me. The techs have always been cordial and responsive and professional and respond quickly whenever the need arises day or night - no matter the weather. The office staff have always been smart and personal and upbeat every single time I have a need to engage with them. Petro is top notch in my book.

I cant say enough good things about Jose Pellecer. He delivered and set up our new propane tank, made sure it was safe and discussed all his procedures with me. We had a gas stove installed on the same day and Jose waited for the completion of this to make sure everything was safe. Excellent service and communication!
Stay away from this company especially their heating system services! They are dishonest and their failure of doing proper maintenance caused carbon monoxide to leak inside the house while we were sleeping. Carbon-monoxide alarm saved our lives!!!I was paying for annual service including tune up and cleaning but these pictures from inside the furnace show how much cleaning they have done!!!By the way, I called three times to speak with Lisa the claimed customer service manager per their response to my post. However, Lisa was always in a meeting or in a training and she has not been able to return my phone calls yet! Terrible customer service!!!!
Definitely shop around for your oil and service agreement. When I first started with petro they gave me a great price of 150 for the year for my service agreement, then the next year they doubled it for no reason. So then I asked what their price per gallon charge I was at, they quoted me 3.39, I told them on the phone I was going to shop around with a few other companies and they took another .30 off the price. I called other companies and find a cheaper price.... Called petro back to cancel my contract and they took another .40 cents off the price per gallon. This company is a racket. They love to thank you for being a loyal customer but then upsell you on their prices every year. There are cheaper companies out there, these people are crooks.

I had an oil delivery a few weeks back and the whistle that lets the driver know the tank is full was very faint. They could have very easily told me I needed a new whistle assembly and I wouldnt have known the difference. Mike the service manager assured me that more than likely my system just needed a good cleaning, as spider webs,etc. can build up in the pipe overtime. Mike was very professional, polite and most importantly, he was extremely knowledgeable. The Service Technician who just left my house gave my system a thorough cleaning and the whistle is now louder than ever. This is a company with hard working, honest people who are extremely knowledgeable in this field. I recommend them to everyone. I forgot to mention that the technicians name is Kenneth Baltimore. Hes a great guy. Mike and Kenneth, thank you both very much!

Petro is always very great to deal with, but they should be, considering the huge oil bills I get every winter. Couple of days ago I had classic homeowner shock when I went down to the basement to find two inches of standing water. I called petro and they came that evening to turn off the leaking furnace, and the next day to replace a blown pressure release valve. No charge. After a few hours of bailing, things are back to normal, and I think my hot water is hotter! Thanks, petro.... Now if only you could reduce my oil bills!

I have been having problem with a mini split unit I buy 6 month ago, that is costing me $5300. This problem start in Dec2020. Now I have to turn off and on my remote to get heat OR take batteries out the remote. This is so crazy!!!
I called because our oil furnace was not working. I called at 3:00 pm and was told a tech would be there between 6-9 pm that day.Your Tech David showed up right in that window, diagnosed the issue within minutes, had the part on his truck and we had heat all in about a 1/2 hour.Very impressed!

Setting up my emergency appointment was easy. The first representative was really nice and easy to talk with and she understood my issue. The actual repairman was just as nice and really knew what he was doing and how to fix a furnace. My problem was fixed and I was very pleased with my overall experience. Petro really came through for us after we ran out of oil and my former provider failed to respond to numerous calls for emergency service.The mere fact that they were able to provide a window to have someone out AND emailed me to confirm my appointment as well as to let me know the tech was on the way puts them a step ahead of the rest.Petro made me feel valued as a customer where as my old provider treated me as a number. Im glad I switched!

Our maintenance man Rick was courteous, friendly and professional. He kept us informed of what he would be doing and when he would need to shut off the AC in order to test the furnace. My poorly sized furnace filter was even specially seated and taped to hold it in, something I will consider doing before getting the right sizes next time after using up my current supply. He wore protective shoe wear and cleaned up all material down to carrying out the old filter. I was impressed.
Great service by the Petro technicians (Bill & Jamaal) that came out on a forecast day of 100 degrees. Diagnose the problem, add refrigerant and had me enjoying cool air in a short time.

We have had PETRO for 5 years. Our tank is in a locked garage. Twice a year we have to take the day off work to be here for the delivery to open the garage. They have never shown up on the day they said they would be here. Always show up the day before or the day after. Delaying our delivery and having to take more time off work. Today, I called because I havent seen them yet (again). Lady on the phone said they were already here and banged on the door for a long time and that the gate was locked and they couldnt deliver so they left a note. Theres no note on the door, my gate is chained open, and I have been here waiting for them all morning. Also, I have a security system doorbell that shows they never rang the doorbell. When we call to voice our complaints they never apologize for the inconvenience. They always act like we are inconveniencing them by calling.
The AC Technician was very knowledgeable, friendly and did the job in less than 30 minutes. He showed me what the problem was.

1.0 star rating9/25/2018I own a home in northern VA. I use heating oil, which I and the owners from whom I purchased the home obtain from Petro Home Services. I also have a home services contract with Petro-the best one that they offer. I quite possibly have not dealt with a worse company in my many years. (1) They sent out someone to check out my A/C. The tech said that the unit needed to be completely replaced. I then paid out-of-pocket and had a separate HVAC company check the unit and found nothing to be wrong. Its been perfect for several months since. Bad faith by Petro obviously trying to sell me a new unit; (2) Required some basic other items to be fixed--it literally took them no less than 4 trips out and several different servicemen who all gave different stories. Ultimately, I literally took the time to reach corporate headquarters and threatened suing them for bad faith, etc. They have a million different offices and generally, you will speak to someone in New York, even though your home and contract may be in VA or DC. A truly awful company and one which I refuse to work with ever again. I also do not trust anything that their technicians have to say. I spent hours and hours simply trying to get simple and truthful answers. Please be aware!
My own personal experience with Petro has been very good. The service department is always friendly and willing to help you right away. I noticed a lot of people complaining about wait times and lateness but I work in service and installation and I know how difficult it is to manage scheduling on top of normal everyday service calls. I think the technicians do the best they can to finish one job and get to the next. Especially when a customer is without heat or air conditioning. Keep up the good work!

Short version: At least half of the techs are dangerously incompetent, deliveries are dangerously unreliable, phone operators will ignore what you tell them, and they drastically overcharge you for parts outside your service agreement.Ive had a TERRIBLE experience with Petro. Last winter, I called multiple times to request a delivery, even though my plan is supposed to be auto-fill. 2 weeks later, I was out of oil and still no delivery. I had to go 3 more days with no heat. Later in the year, I made a service call about delayed ignition from my burner. The first tech bled the line and told me to call again. The second tech was downright rude and insulting. He replaced the nozzle, got lucky that it fired right up, and called it a day. I had to make a THIRD service call for another tech to finally identify the issue and replace the ignition transformer.(Who wouldve thought to change the ignition for an ignition problem? DUH)This year, my control was tripping out due to a bad relay. When I made the service call, I even told the girl I thought it was a bad relay. The first tech was 2 hours late, claimed he was just a burner guy and that I would likely need a whole new oil tank to fix the problem(WTF?!?) AGAIN, I needed a second tech to come out WHEN I LITERALLY TOLD THEM THE FIRST TIME WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. AGAIN I had no heat, this time for 4 days. Apparently they have a couple senior techs they carried over from Hoffberger who actually care and know what theyre doing, but unless you specifically request one, its equally likely you get a tech who puts your home, wallet, and well being in danger. While the last tech did a good job, when I looked up the parts online, literally the highest prices I could find were $100 less than what they charged me. I easily found them for at least $200 less. Every aspect of this company has been so consistently, insultingly, recklessly negligent.

Talk about FAST service !! I called regarding a problem we were having with our heating system, and that due to that issue, we were going through propane quickly !! In less than one hour they had a truck at our house to deliver fuel !! Prompt, efficient, great customer service !!
Called 6:00AM in morning about no hot water. Service man was at house by 10:00AM fixing the water heater. Always great service!
Furnace went out on a Sunday night at 7:30 P M, made the call to Petro and they us up and running again by 10:00 PM. For being after hours and on a Sunday night this was outstanding service.

We have been customers for years and do pay extra for the service plans, but they often pay for themselves. Our AC stopped working during this past heat spell. Petro was very busy that day, but they came by late afternoon, quickly diagnosed the problem and located the part. It was a sweet father-son tag team operation. They communicated the issue to each other and worked until after 7pm to make sure we didnt have to spend another very warm night in the house. We were very thankful for their prompt, friendly, and above & beyond service. Thanks!!!

Petro Home Services sells low quality equipment and then cant install them properly . I had a new compressor installed in summer 2017 because their previous unit died just after the warranty. The new unit leaked out after three months and they couldnt find the leak, They recharged with a sealer and it leaked out after 8 months. I called a new company, they found the leak immediately and found a joint from the poor installation as the source of the leak. I was advised to go back to Petro to have them redo the work, but Im willing to pay the extra $800 for a proper install and be done with them. I dont think Petro is able to do a reinstall properly.

My service technician was Jonathan. My furnace wasnt working, he came in, tested the furnace and knew exactly what the problem was. He had the part with him and the furnace was fixed right away. Very knowledgeable and he took the time to explain what the problem was and how it worked and waited to make sure it was going to stay fixed. Super impressive. Cold weather and no heat! Oh no! We called for assistance and the service rep scheduled a technician to come within 5 hours. The technician, Bill, was fantastic. He identified the problem, got the heat running, and made some recommendations for keeping our fuel line from freezing in these very COLD temperatures.Bill is a really excellent representation of the service people weve met over the years. We rate him highly.

Hoffberger Oil was a great company to work with. I had service with them for 15 years before they sold to Petro. Petro is a nightmare to deal with. Their “service” and billing staffs are rude and aggressive. They give false information about the contract, getting a fixed price before the heating season, delivery dates, billing practices. They never have a delivery truck with the correct size hose to reach the tank and have driven over the garden, planters, garden furniture and landscaping.None of these problems existed with Hoffberger.I have tried to change companies but am threatened with huge charges ($400+) if I end the contract and am now informed I will be fined if another company even FILLS the tank. The temperature has been in the teens and twenties for days and I have no heat. They were scheduled to fill the tank Wednesday (3 days ago), did not come nor inform me that they had not.In spite of middle-of-the-night calls they are unable or unwilling to tell me when the tank will be filled.
Very happy with my last service... I wish the tech had access to parts when the first tech was out for my convenient appointment so I didnt need to take time off of work but when the tech came out the next day with the parts they were able to get the furnace functioning properly again.

I had a furnace tune up and a problem fixed. Two technicians actually worked with me. When the first one couldn’t solve my issue, he called someone who he said was better versed in troubleshooting. I was taken seriously, my aquastat was replaced, my thermostat was correctly programmed, and I was walked through everything they both did. Very helpful service. My furnace no longer shuts off randomly. Thanks, Petro!

I signed a contract with PETRO last month and was promised proactive auto-delivery of oil, however my tank is now empty and Ive waited on the call line for over 15 minutes on more than one occasion. Worst part is that once you sign a contract with them, youre prohibited from using any other oil company!

After 20 years of uninterrupted service based on their K-factor/degree day model, Petro, inexplicably, took my account off that model, mismanaged it manually, and failed in its core competency to meet my weather needs. My house froze to tune of $15,000 damage. Petros position is that I wasnt there to complain about Petros mishap, and therefore, fault is mine. Can you believe this roughshod treatment?After 20 years? If this touches values you hold dear, steer clear of Petro!This is an unethical firm, its focus is dollar profit, and if you fall below their profit margin, you are done! The legal contortion, and the corporate will behind this flagrant ethical violation should serve to forewarn you of Petros predatory nature, and you should keep that in mind when facing their slick promises. Their dwindling customer base is dwindling at an increasing rate, but not fast enough if Petro captures you!
I have been a customer of C Hoffberger for years and have had some good experiences and some bad experiences, but I do feel that I was always treated respectfully. Petro acquired C Hoffberger and all of my information was apparently not transferred over. When I told the representative that I was unhappy that I would have to fill out the same paperwork and information to confirm my services I was met with a very condescending comment that people have no heat and that I should be happy that I have heat, even if I have to wait 10 minutes to get to a representative. 2 Tips for this company if you want to improve. 1 COMPASSION, learn how to put yourself in the customers place. When I call I am not looking for excuses and absolutely not an attitude. If you want arent able to help me, please do not patronize me by saying that I am lucky to have heat. 2. If you know your business is busy during the winter HIRE MORE STAFF so your loyal and paying customers do not have to wait on the phone 10 minutes plus EVERY time they call. Please look into these things so that you can improve as a company.

Upon calling for a service tech to come to the house Petro was very accomodating and was able to make me an appointment the same day after 5:30 pm.
I ran out of oil on the e year with out of town guest for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I was on auto refill and my last delivery was in May, 2018. After being on hold, landline and cell phone, for 33 minutes, I explained to the representative that I was out of fuel. Who then ask how I knew I was out of fuel? You should have half a tank. Wow what vision. I have no heat and the gauge reads empty, I am that smart. He offered to send a truck with 20 gallon on Saturday evening between 7:30 and 10:30 PM. NO, who wants to set in a cold house with OOT guest on a Saturday night! I had already scheduled fuel delivery for Monday 11/26/18. Fuel was delivery but unfortunately boiler would not start. Now I have to wait for a service tech to bleed the line etc, expected time 4:30 and 7:30 PM. I ask for a 1/2 hour out phone call to assure I was at home. That is their policy I was told. Call never came, tech arrived having not know about half hour phone call. In act he was totally unaware I had ran out of fuel oil, you have no heat is the only thing he knew. What a disaster, obviously no one relayed correct information.
I got a great price for oil and service policy!!!Unfortunately my blower motor burned up a month-and-a-half into the new contract. I called and set up an appointment for the next day Friday for a service technician to come out. He looked at the blower took it apart and then gave a price of over $600 for a new blower. a service tech seemed aggravated and said this was a pre-existing condition and he doesnt understand why they would sell me a contract without inspecting the unit. (It should be noted that Petro stole me as a customer from a sister company and I think thats why they sold me the service contract. Their sister company just cleaned and service my unit in the spring.) We refused the repair until we could contact a supervisor. While I was waiting for a supervisor to call me back I looked up my motor online and found one for $200. it was forecasted to drop down into the twenties over the weekend. After calling about every 4 hours I never got a call back until Monday night. Apparently, customer service is an answering service that knows very little about their business or how important it is to have heat when its 22 degrees out. I was trying to get an idea how much this repair was going to cost me and what the service contract actually covered. So Monday night the service manager stated he was not going to cover it. Then after a little argument he stated hes not going to eat the entire cost for this because its a pre-existing condition which we explained it was not because it was working fine up until Thursday. and finally after we discuss contacting a lawyer because they were in breach of their contract they finally did the right thing and decided to cover the repair. They also treated us like a customer, at that point, by calling me and keep me updated until they found the part and scheduled the install. So in closing, it took 7 days and a bunch of aggravation to get my heat restored. Working great.... Now.
