One of the interesting places in West Virginia. The inside looks funky, colorful, and retro the like the 50s dining. Ample parking, and decent price, and good food.Food comes in big portion and enough for 2 people. They serve almost everything: breakfast, lunch, ice cream, milkshakes, cheesecake, wraps, home cooked dinner, and kids meal. Its family friendly and has additional dining room in the back. They have the He-man breakfast which acknowledge by the Food Magazine. They have competition of who can finish the He-Man breakfast in 45 minutes in one sitting. You need to visit this place when happen to be in West Virginia 😊

Atmosphere was inviting, except for the Halloween decor. Just a preference though. Waitress was attentive and very kind. We ordered the appetizer platter but unfortunately, it made me sick. Must have been too many deep fried things or the oil they use.Milkshakes were amazing! They said no mozzarella sticks but they found some l, which was a huge bonus! Overall, I’m pleased with the experience here.

Poky Dot is an iconic eatery in Fairmont for short order grill foods and sweet treats. I had the Poky Burger and a slice coconut crème pie. Yum yum !!!! They make the ice cream treats on the front counter for all to see. That is a treat in itself. Located on Fairmont Ave its worth a look.

The place is very unique and you are paying for an experience here, not just the food. We only came for dessert, there was a long wait and they were out of several things. However, everyone was amazingly nice and friendly, the specialty milkshakes were unlike anything you will find around here, and the experience was awesome. As mentioned in other reviews, yes, the service is kind of slow. Yes, the milkshakes are quite messy. But yes, it is worth all the negatives. The look on my kids faces says it all. We will definitely return, but next time we will share. Virtually impossible to finish one on your own!

VERY IMPORTANT: MAKE RESERVATIONS DURING PEAK TIMES, LIKE WEEKENDS!!! i called ahead on a Saturday morning to make sure we reserved a table for four. So glad we did. This place gets packed on the weekends, for good reason. Dont make the ignorant mistake of not making reservations and then complain like a Karen when you get there and theres an insane wait. This place is FAMOUS and WELL KNOWN. Dont you dare come into this establishment and berate the kind and courteous ladies and gentlemen working hard to give you THE BEST experience when you fail to make reservations! Anywho, the food was great. Very elaborate and unique menu. Tons to choose from for all tastes. Breakfast served all day! The food was amazing tasting as well. No disappointment there. Amazing, great. The ice cream choices are endless and they work their tails off to make them look like pieces of edible artwork. The lady who served us, Jo, was fantastic. This place was incredibly busy and you can tell but she never let it show in the way of poor service or attitude. Jo is a true gem. Love you, Jo. Everyone working was smiling and always asking if we needed anything. Like i said in the beginning, dont show up without a reservation and take it out on these kind folks!! They are going above and beyond to give you an amazing experience during a pandemic. They are working against obstacles they cannot remove and they are doing fabulously. The decor is flipping adorable and I wish i had taken more pictures to show that but you really have to see it in person to enjoy :)

I had the BBQ tater tots and they were very good but the service was horrible. They were also out of items. My friend ordered a sandwich and the server left to place the order and several minutes later she came back to say they didnt have the turkey for it. We told the server when we ordered the food that we wanted shakes as well but we werent given that menu when we came in so she went to get it and waited til we were nearly done eating to take the shake order. Then when we placed that she later came back to say they were out of product for one of the shakes. Then after I picked a new one we sat there, food finished, watching her wander back and forth. When she finally started making our shakes (you can see them making them and we happened to be sitting right in front of the counter they do them on) we watched her leave many more times while she was making them. The food was good and while the shakes were fun, they really werent worth the $15 they charge. They also have very limited seating so we had to wait 20 minutes for a table. But we had driven 1 1/2 hrs to try the place so we did wait, but I dont think Ill be back again. Which is disappointing because its a very fun atmosphere. The building/interior itself is great and I would love to go back but spending nearly 2 hours and $25 to get an appetizer and shake is just not worth it.

So a three hour drive brought us here. And it was pretty amazing to be honest. First off, this place was busy, and I mean really busy. I spent a couple minutes talking to the owner who was a super nice lady and she even got us seated way sooner then she predicted. The old malt shop atmosphere was great. The walls were done up with shakes and fries and pokie dots. So 4 of us had lunch here and the food was amazing. I got the poky burger. A nice thick burger with fries. And it was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. The fries were not anything I had ever seen before and lacked season but they were still tasty. My wife got the Pulled Pork BBQ and it was straight up what you would expect. My oldest son got the country fried steak breakfast and the potatoes were nicely seasoned and the gravy and steak were superb. The steak just pulled apart and was juicy, and the gravy as thick and creamy and really tasty. My youngest son got the grilled cheese meal and it was just a grilled cheese. Nothing special. The shakes on the other hand, oh my the shakes. Each shake comes with an assortment of things stacked on top of them, like reeses or marsh mellows, candies and cookies or in the case of mine, a Connoli. Tho pricy thy were really tasty.

We understand that the shakes are hand made but they assumed we knew they would take an additional 45 minutes to make. They could have at least involved us in that and had our children watch but instead we waited an hour and 30 minutes to get milkshakes where one had a receipt mixed into the ice cream. Rather than just fixing the issue and sending us on our way, the manager did not take responsibility for what happened and blamed us for not understanding.

I really wanted to like this place, but it was just so unwelcoming for a place to appears to be so bright and bubbly. The food was fine, decent diner quality. Nothing to write home about though. The milkshake I got was the donut shake and it was pretty good but the vanilla I chose had mostly no flavor whatsoever. The service was so subpar. Our waitress was new, which is totally fine, but she had zero customer service skills. We asked her questions since it was our first time and she just said I dont know and made no effort to find out, just stared at us. The other staff members were unhelpful as well and everyone was just kind of bumbling around not attending to anyone. The place is very cute, but unfortunately I could not really recommend it.

One of my friends wanted a banana split but they only serve a 9lb one with no other options. She ended up getting cobbler which she loved. Got a $15 milkshake with a brownie and Reese cup on the top of it. It was good but then the waitress was like oh you can take the jar home. Oh ok can you clean it because its completely covered in chocolate.....no sorry. Finally got a bag to put it in. The ice cream and shakes are delicious. Be prepared to waste food. :( The only reason I did not give five stars is the fact that when you need something, napkins, water, or the condiments that you asked for when you ordered, it takes way too long or doesn’t come at all. First off, I never leave 1 star reviews for places so that shows how poor this experience was. This was the worst experience I’ve had in a restaurant EVER. The service was terrible. We were there for 3 and a half hours. It took forever to get anything. We got served ice cream and chili with no spoons and milkshakes with no straws. Every time I asked a question the server didn’t know the answer and didn’t seem to know the menu at all. We spent an hour waiting on deserts. They were out of half of the menu. We were told we couldn’t get the banana split or sundaes because they were low on ice cream, like isn’t that what you are known for? To top it off we then saw another table getting a giant sundae after we were told no so that makes no sense. It felt like our server abandoned our table so we asked another server for help and she was very rude and basically said it wasn’t her problem. They make you scan a QR code to bring up an online menu, which is fine except their online menu isn’t a true menu and is actually where you can order online so it’s hard to read and doesn’t describe the items very well. The milkshake I ended up getting as a last resort actually wasn’t very good anyway. The Mac and cheese burger was delicious but not worth wasting my whole day waiting for. Also ridiculously over priced. This place has hype so they think they can charge ridiculous prices. Avoid this place.

It is absolutely impossible not to fall in love with the Poky Dot! The whole place is kind of small but packs smiles into every square inch. You will start grinning as soon as you approach. Obviously, the ice cream is the biggest attraction, and all of their offerings are incredible! However, they also serve regular food, which is equally great. They have a giant breakfast platter thats famous around here, because its truly a challenge to eat it all. For birthdays, the Poky Dot is the hottest place around, its literally a birthday hotspot. It has a 1950s vibe, and thats amazingly coupled with its comfortable feel, incredibly friendly and happy staff, and ALL of the food is delicious! The ice cream is done in dozens of artistic styles that youll take pictures of before you eat, and you get plenty too! The prices are pretty normal, you would pay the same price for the same amount at DQ, but no ice cream shop compares to the Poky Dot... Its simply delightful. Imagine walking into a 1950s ice cream shop and having everyones face light up with excitement, then you taste the food and ice cream and say Whoa!!! I love it!!! Our server was Allison O. Try to get a different server, or even better, skip this place.

If your looking for a fun, nostalgic place to eat in the Fairmont, WV area, look no further than the Poky Dot Restaurant! The Poky Dot has been a Fairmont staple since the 1950s and you dont last that long unless the atmosphere, food and service are exceptional. Wether your looking for a hot dog, hamburger, hoagie, southwest chicken salad, breakfast or a scrumptious calorie packed desert, the Poky Dot will not disappoint! Look at the pic, click on like for the ones that you like the best, then head on over!! By the way, they do have a kids menu and breakfast is served all day long! Enjoy!!

The service was terribleThey have no menu, unless you can scan the barcode thing. The hostess became argumentative when I told her my phone will not work with those things. She basically implied that I didnt know how to use my phone, until I showed her. Her fix then was to tell us we could probably look up an old menu online and work from that. The food was fine, but at 11.99 for a straight burger and fries, and 3 dollars extra for the drink, I cant imagine Ill ever bother to go there again
