These blankets seem expensive at first but when you tour the factory and see the entire process that goes into making them, you really understand why. (Tours are Friday’s and Saturday’s when sadly all the workers have gone home) Something about a completely American made quality product inspires your soul and captures your fascination. The history and pride in this place seeps through the walls and into your heart. I hope this place stays running for another 150 years. I will return for a blanket with my tax refund. America.
Top-notch products and superb customer service. Plus, Faribaults merchandise is made in the U.S., which I appreciate. Ive bought six or seven throws and bed blankets from Faribault over the last two years and the service has been consistently top-notch. During the heart of the COVID shutdown they were upfront about potential delivery problems but clearly were working to process my order as expeditiously as possible given the circumstances. When I had a relatively minor problem with one product they quickly addressed it and their solution was more than satisfactory. I actually look forward to more opportunities to shop here.
Came here with my family on my moms request, wasnt sure what to expect. We were immediately greeted and the salespeople all knew so much about the history of the mill/how the blankets were made/etc. A lot of the items do have higher price points, but they account for the work it takes to make them. Will come back again!
Purchased a Faribault Woolen Mill laptop sleeve that is apparently no longer available on their website. Excellent quality and fit, except the zipper failed just out of warranty. My inquiry to the company went unanswered.
Very interesting, even tho I am 70, never been here before, lots of history, since the 1850s. Still going strong with excellant staff.
Such a darling place! Recently visited the shop while in town. We walked through the front doors and were immediately greeted. This gal knew all the ins and outs of the mill. She was able to tell us details on every product we picked up or looked at. I left with a beautiful handmade tote bag as well as a gorgeous throw blanket. Such a wonderful place. If its a gift for you or someone else, I guarantee they have something there. I am so excited to have my Faribault Woolen Mill blanket. I cant wait to be able to have this for the rest of my life and pass it down.
Such a great heritage mill. We love their blankets and throws.
Jason willis here! This is such a wonderful company! Blankets are the best quality and last forever. Staff? It was as if I was family and Im from san diego. Absolutely sold on this company.
A living, working monument to a disappearing part of American industry, the Faribault Woolen Mill is a great revival success story. After being wrung out by an LBO gone wrong in the GFC 2008, the company was revived 18 months later by the Moody family, who recognized the opportunity to rebuild the brand based on quality craft production. Faribault (pronounced FAR-ee-bo) is a longtime supplier of wool blankets to the US Armed Forces. Our tour, led by Anne, was quite informative, albeit quieter than normal because we were there on Black Friday, one of the few days in the year when the mill is not in full swing. So the machines were idle, but we could hear all of Annes commentary and got to get close up to many machines that would have otherwise been off limits due to gnashing gears and spinning rollers. Some of the machines date to 1904, and the longest tenured worker is 83 years old and has worked there since 1954!
Wonderful informative visit!
Charming, friendly, historic and fascinating.
Well informed staff. Put us on email lists so we can be informed of upcoming products.
Beautiful high quality products and unbeatable customer service! The mill tour is a must see!
Great products, I bought four throw blankets, customer service is fantastic! Made In The U.S.A.
Very nice show room. High quality items; mostly blankets and pillows and a few other things. The clerk was very helpful and knowledgeable. High prices, like $150 and up for a blanket.
A woolen mill run by some amazingly talented and friendly people! The products are of the highest quality and designed beautifully! I highly recommend a tour of the mill and a visit to the company store to see for yourself!
A Faribault institution. I’m proud to say my great grandfather, Louis Schwichtenberg, was an important part of the Woolen Mill for years. His children (including my grandmother) and even his grandchildren worked there, as well. Integrity and pride of craftsmanship have dominated for centuries. We were graced with a family tour last fall and had the opportunity to stand where our family stood decades before. The new owners are a gracious bunch. The quality appears to live on in the products. I highly recommend the tour and the products.
Bought a blanket online. Decided to return and after emailing back and forth finally got a return label to send blanket back. They didn’t accept the return and called us to tell us they can’t accept the return because of dog hair (literally was out of packaging for 1 minute before putting back in box to return). The voicemail says they will SHIP IT BACK TO US and says WE CAN CALL IF WE HAVE ANY QUESTIONS. Okay fine. A month goes by and blanket has not been shipped back to us. I call and leave a voicemail to ask what’s going on and customer service responds back via voicemail — “good thing you called we were going to destroy the blanket today if you had not called us back, I will go ahead and ship it back to you.”Okay great...
Good fishing....
I highly recommend the tour. I learned so much about the history of the mill that I would have never known. Our tour guide was great and so knowledgeable and passionate which was awesome. The wool blankets will last a lifetime, they are of the highest quality.
The tour was a lot of fun and was very informative. It was great to be able to learn the history of the mill and see the process and craft that goes into making such quality products.
I have been in love with this company for a while - visiting the store and taking the tour affirmed my obsession. Yes, their products are expensive but it is worth it! Beautifully made products here in Minnesota and Im proud to support such a great company.
Very nice showroom with a bunch of neat products. The women working the sales floor were kind of snooty and unpleasant. They definitely had the if you cant afford anything, then get out vibe to them. We just wanted to stop in and see what they had. Wont be back unless I know exactly what I want to buy... apparently browsing is frowned upon
Visited about a year ago with my husband and toured the mill. It was a really interesting tour! We bought a blanket made from the eco wool with a cute chevron pattern that has become our favorite ❤
Great wool products. Wish they still did seconds in their blankets.
Beautiful quality blankets, so wonderful to see a piece of history that is supported by their community.
Amazing quality and you can get deals on seconds at the company store.
Great store and great legacy
Beautiful all American made items for home and clothing.
Nice place to bring visitors to. Wonderful blankets!
This Minnesota treasure’s retail store has a warm, rustic charm second to none. Excellent place to find an uniquely Minnesota gift or to purchase the perfect throw blanket for your own bed or couch.
I highly recommend the tour. Very interesting and great gift shop!
Hometown Goodness that I miss so much.
Love the quality of the wool products. I understand wool has its own texture, but would love an offering of something softer, similar to Merino, for a blanket
They wont let people fish in river by them
Beautiful locally made blankets and throws. Good place for a wedding gift.
The shop is beautiful and is a great place to fine a present to give someone with a unique nature.
I hope this place stays raw and unpolished. The store is gorgeous and more mainstream, but I look forward to the mill and the warehouse realness every year.
Toured the factory. Story of their beginning, struggles, shutdown, loyal employees, U.S. Military contracts for blankets and their manufacturing requirements, rebirth of FWM.Love this store and factory! So thankful for the guys that started up the mill again, and I like seeing the ideas and products from the team for items: blankets, throws, table runners, bags, coffee cup kozies, etc.We bought some very nice remenants for a silent auction, and the clerk gave us individual shopping bags, gift wrap box, tags, and care instructions to boost the thrill of owning FWM products.Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Always a cool visit when you want to see a place thats existed since the American Civil War, not to mention the amazing quality of the blankets sold there!
