@theflytrapferndale It’s been since 2008 since I have been to this restaurant. Happy to return. Fun place, scratch made food. I had a sourdough BLT, was supposed to have Avocado but I requested that it did not. Pepper bacon, garlic aïoli. Nice combination. I paired it with the house salad with creamy herb dressing. Nice flavor not over-powering. I look at the menu and I saw a ton of great stuff I want to try next time. The decoration is fanciful oh fun the right amount of quirky. Check them out!#blt
🥚Delicious breakfast spot.🥕 Had a veggie omelet with peppers, carrots, pea sugar peas, mushrooms...along with super yummy potatoes. 🥔 They had special jam that was really good. Nice cup of coffee that they kept filled! ☕ Attentive and kind staff.
I’ve lived in Ferndale for over 20 years and have been coming to the Fly Trap for at least the last 12 years. Until now I haven’t really left a review I think I didn’t want too many people to learn about my favorite spot as it’s already so popular it can be a challenge getting in! My favorite thing here is the green eggs and ham. It’s loaded with cheese as you can see in the video I posted. I tell everybody this is the only place serving breakfast potatoes that do not require ketchup … It is seasoned perfectly. The coffee is great and the fresh squeezed orange juice is also wonderful. The decor is funky and artsy and eclectic. That makes for a great vibe. They serve stuff other than breakfast and it’s good but the breakfast always keeps me coming back. Try it for yourself I think you’ll love it.
Excellent meal. The atmosphere was even better. The owner or manager went above and beyond when we had to wait a little longer than expected for a table. (We totally understood though, nobody really knows how long its going to take for people to order/eat/leave-- we did not mind the wait) We ordered the crab cakes and the steak n eggs meal. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The homemade jam and sauces were a highlight. If youve never been here you need to go.
Maaaan, this place was 🔥🔥🔥!! Seemed like it would be a long wait at first as there were many couples & families ahead of us, but the line went fast. The food was delicious!!! I ordered the Salmon burger with crispy potatoes instead of fries, and my wife had the meal with tortilla chips topped with beans, sour cream and grilled chicken. Both meals were amazing and came out fresh!! The ginger lemonade mimosa was also pretty good. Id recommend this place for a meal anytime of the day. And if youre a hot sauce lover, its a must you try all of their signature house made hot sauces. Lastly, the price of the food was ridiculously affordable. We ordered 2 meals while dinning in, and 2 to go for our daughter and grandmother, the bill was only $65 😮.
I was visiting from out of town and met family here for breakfast. I really enjoyed the location, decor, and salt shakers. Each table has their own unique shakers. The service was my biggest issue. Our server gave very little eye contact. On top of that she made us feel a bit out of place. I’d try them out again because my Aunt enjoyed her food.
Went to this gem on Friday morning for breakfast. First time diner and I was pleasantly surprised. The eclectic vibe, the staff and the exceptional food were such a treat! I had their “rumbled” eggs with mushrooms, greens, caramelized onions and cheese and it was amazing but it was only out done by their seasoned home fries. House made bread, sauces, jellies and jams just made it all so special. I will definitely make the trip back, maybe for lunch or dinner so I can partake in their full bar. Ferndale, you sure have a winner here!
Fantastic food. We cant wait to go back. The Ez ChiZ is a revelation!
I love the huevos rancheros I specifically go for this everytime and recently bought their hot sauce as well to bring home sooo yummy !!
I stopped by to pick up a breakfast carryout, directed myself to the pick up counter and watched 3 staff members especially the bartender (Caucasian with pinned up gray hair) completely ignore my presence. The bartender was busy cleaning off the counter and then after looking directly at me, took a carry out order on the phone. The last person (appeared to be overwhelmed but extremely helpful) asked if I had been addressed and apologize once she found out I was not. I frequent this strip of restaurants daily and notice how some restaurants hold consistent high standards of overall customer service vs others. If my previous experience with this location particularly had not been great, I would never visit this location again but Im just going to mark this experience for the books. Hopefully so one sees it and take it serious. Best wishes!
I cant say enough good things about this place. Consistently fantastic, down to the homemade jam & hot sauces. Drink Kenny looks great, but I havent ordered anything aside from the bloody mary because its lovely. Be sure to check the daily special menu before ordering, and plan on arriving early if youd like a mini muffin!Photos attached include The Boot & a kids burger (which actually tasted like thoughtfully prepared food.)
Our second visit here.... And very pleased!!!Love the 3 hot sauces made in house 🌶️This time I had the salmon burger, it was yummy. They even asked how I wanted it cooked and the add of cucumbers added were perfect touch.I was stealing the sauce from the pasta and dipping my fries.....I really loved the garlic in the sauce. Id suggest ordering bread to go with the pasta to dip in.... there was plenty of sauce left after the noodles were eaten. It was a Sunday so the parking is free.
Wonderful gourmet food for a little bit of fun. A little on the pricey side
5/21 One of the best breakfast and lunch spots in the area. Most of the dishes are very creatively made. Their potatoes and coffee are better than most. They have a sign in sheet at the back entrance. There is a full bar and bloody Mary’s are their specialty. Staff pays attention to your order. Very hip place.
One of Metro Detroits Best Restaurants! Definitely a have to try it once experience and when you do youll be hooked for life...just like a great tasting potato chip!!!
Hands down one of the best restaurants in the Metro Detroit area - breakfast, lunch, or dinner!
Love the Fly Trap. Some traditional with a twist, some totally original. Always good.
I had the mac & cheese. Let me tell u it was the most amazing mac and cheese ive ever had! I ate inside peacefully. It was the first place ive gone i. Two years. Absolutely amazing! Highly recommend!
This is one of the best spots for brunch. The place is fairly small but busy, so there is usually a pretty long wait, but its worth it. The staff is super friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and the decor is fun and eclectic. The food is so good. The Green Eggs and Ham is amazing. The pepper bacon was really good, and their coffee is decent.
Love their breakfast! Green Eggs and Ham is one of my go to favorites when I go. Get there early to try the mini muffins! Theres usually a wait on the weekend, but stop by the bar for an Irish coffee or Mimosa. Service is always friendly and quick. Ask for jelly and hot sauce, you wont be disappointed.
Two stars for effort. Here’s the lowdown:I got the veggie rambler. It was a few greasy veggies with a ton of potatoes and tofu cubes that came straight out of a package (no seasoning or crisping). Worst, my toast was burnt. My friend got bacon and biscuits and gravy. Eggs were runnier than ordered, he found an eggshell in them, bacon was stringy (not cooked enough), and the biscuits had a nice crispy coating of salt on top.It was a good reminder of why we should make our own food at home. Not worth it at all.
Great food, prices need to be update to reflect actual cost of food.Could of been an online menu issue.
Ohhh, so many choices! The egg-centric menu in an eccentric atmosphere with echos of retro stylings offers something to please everyone. Folks with allergies can omit ingredients as needed, and everything is fresh, Fresh, FRESH! Bread, ingredients, and booze slant toward the locally sourced, and meals are heavy on the veg. Seriously, get the sourdough toast, and/or enjoy a Valentines cocktail, or a freshly-squeezed cup of orange juice.Singles and duos can enjoy service at the counter (like me!), or have a table along the wall or small dining room. It seemed a bit cramped to me, so leave your purse/laptop bag in the trunk of your car.Service was quick and pleasant, suggestions helpful, even if it was a bit loud during the morning rush. I got the BLAT omelet, bacon, spinach (not lettuce), avocado, and tomato, minus the usual cheddar, which came with toast and taters. I made short work of it, enjoying every bite. Midway through, I regretted not getting a Mimosa, so I added orange juice to my Michigan Riesling. 😄Next time, I think Ill try the Hash and eggs, unless Im craving the avocado and tomato of the BLAT, and will most certainly try that Fly Trap Mimosa!
I used to love the crab cakes until they gave me burned ones and runny scrambled eggs yuk!!! I understand they are busy so if I can wait you can cook my food right! If you scrambled my eggs as long as my crab cakes cooked they might have been done 🤷
Food was great service was amazing only reason to not give it a 4 star is price Im old school so a 30 dollar breakfast was 5 overpriced but I would definitely come back but just every now and then because I cant afford to eat here every week owner staff did awesome job very helpful.
Great place for good ingredients and very tasty dishes.
Can’t say how much I love this place! It’s amazing everything I go avocados always fresh best hot sauce. Service is excellent which is so hard to find nice respectable workers.
Delicious, fast, and reasonably priced. I reccommend the forager, Spanish coffee, and the home-made jam! Owners are very kind as well.
Always good. Always tasty. Go-to breakfast spot in Ferndale.
Very pleasant experience. This is above average breakfast cuisine, at least 5-10 steps higher than your standard coney breakfast.Be prepared to wait for a table, especially on the weekend. Wait times can exceed 45 mins easily If you come later in the morning. This is probably one of the best breakfast experiences I’ve ever had. It’s worth waiting 40 mins plus for a table.
Food was exceptional and service was very good also.
What a great combination of tasty food, cool ambiance, and good people.
I used to really love it here. Last visit the drinks were not good, service was decent and the food was lack luster with flavor.
The omelet was amazeballs!!! The array of hot sauces were to die for!!! I want more now!!!!
Absolutely wonderful good! The attention to detail in their food is high and effective. Their hot sauces/salsas are super wonderful and I wish they were bottled! As a vegetarian, their dishes are always amazing and my omnivore friends also highly enjoy their food too. Its a cozy atmosphere, and they are doing a good job of everyone safe as well.
The food and service at the Fly Trap are excellent. We didnt have to wait long for our seats for Sunday breakfast, but it started to get busy just after we arrived. I had the Red Flannel Hash which was really good. I had some of their in house hot sauce with it and it really complimented the taste of the dish. Our server was attentive and friendly. The coffee was great! The decor is quirky and dineresque. Worth the drive to Ferndale.
Don’t ever go to this establishment the waitress are rude and has no courtesy for others.. I’ve been to a lot of DDD Places and this is the worst place I ever been to...
I absolutely love this place.Excellent homemade jams.Extraordinary staff.Awesome, filling, breakfast options with a full bar. You cant ask for much more.
Low key, hip and cool environment. We had brunch here and the food was tasty.
Can enter from the front or back.Eggs are described as being a rumble on the menu. I didnt know what it was but ordered anyway.
The waitress was amazing with everything. She was friendly and very professional. The food was reasonably priced. Huge steak and perfect baked potatoes! Awesome crème brûlée ! Incredible dinner!
Perfect little spot for a fun and different menu experience. Great service, safety procedures followed, clean restrooms and dining area. Loved it! Looking forward to our next visit.
What an amazing brunch! Caters to vegans and vegetarians as well! The cocktails are also delicious. 10/10 recommended, and it’s worth the wait!
Very delicious! The pasta was amazing! I will go back
My boyfriend and I had brunch today and it was AMAZING! The homemade hot sauces are out of this world! They enhance the already delicious food. The service was amazing as well, I can’t wait to go back. This will be our new go-to brunch and lunch spot!
Heard about the Fly Trap years ago. Enjoyed the food and experience and will return, even though it is a 40 mile drive.
Great food. Some breakfast sandwiches would be cool though
Best place on earth for blunch!
A great diner with high quality style Americana diner food but with a gourmet twist.
I grabbed some carry out brunch from this place. I googled nearby restaurants with high ratings to get a quick bite for my friend for her birthday. This chicken and waffles and French toast are extremely flavor packed with a sweet sensation that will electrify your taste buds. I am picky when it comes to my eggs and the restaurant understood and met my standards with regards to the method I liked them cooked. The eggs were poached to perfection with the egg running the right amount. The chicken was cooked through and not too crunchy but just the right amount. The French toast was amazing and not too sweet, I usually don’t order toast but I’m glad I did. The restaurant gets busy and you should go early if you plan on dining in. There is parking in the back and on the street but fills up fairly quick.
Extraordinary food and service value. Great food pairings, al-dente taste and prep. Plus the most competitive prices Ive ever seen along the Woodward corridor.
Very friendly staff, they have the best Salmon Burger
Delich, delich, delich!!! We had a B.L.A.T.+C. Howies Noodles, Spanish Coffee, Bloody Mary, and some mimosas to celebrate with our newlywed friends. The B.L.A.T.+C omelette was stuffed to the seams, tasty and filling. Their house potatoes are spiced excellently and remind me of how my Dad made them growing up. I topped mine with all 3 of the house hot sauces which were all excellent and varied greatly in taste and zing. They also had a spicy berry jam for the bread which was unexpected and delightful. The Howies Noodles I only had a could bites of, but once again, was seasoned great and was an ample portion. As this was brunch, of course we had some drinks. The Spanish Coffee is STRONG, I recommend sipping from the rim with the sugar. The bloody Mary was a good bloody Mary, nothing I would rave over, but better than many. Mimosa was straight forward as we had our own bottle and juice to pour, we had a group of 4 so we did two bottles.I very highly recommend checking out The Fly Trap, you wont be disappointed!
Huevos rancheros was a FANTASTIC surprise. Huge and fresh. Homemade pepper sauces were well made and packed with flavor.
Absolutely love this place. I’m a huge breakfast person & if I could come here every day and get the veggie rumble with tofu made vegan, I would. Always fantastic food, great homemade jams & hot sauces! This place is always on the top of my list for breakfast.
Holy smokes, the fly trap killed breakfast! I dont think Ive ever had gingerbread waffles, with Sun dried cherries, apples, and Apple cider syrup. In fact, I didnt think it could be so amazing. Do not miss this delicious dish.Coffee is strong, smooth, With no no nonsense flavoring, just like it should be. Does not need cream or sugar a.Toast, choice of sourdough, wheat, or rye all served with blueberry Ginger preserves made right on site. My Lord, this was the best jam Ive ever had.Sunday morning, arrive before 9:30 a.m., 5 minute wait Max. After that, maybe longer. Dont forget when you walk in, write your name on the wall scroll with the number of people in your party. This will get you in queue and make sure you sit down as quickly as possible to start your day out with a touch of heaven. The staff is friendly, happy Khama wide awake, and ready to tell you about their favorite dishes and why they like them. I just love this restaurant. Please go.
Excellent vegan options. Food taste great and staff good and friendly. Wish they had longer hours.
Super flavorful, hearty portions,... pleasantly friendly, clean, fun atmosphere! Favs include A Forager & Slacker Especial for breakfast [anytime]. Try the house-made jams & hot sauces > so yummy! Ask about the b&w artsy guy picture behind the bar! It is a great bit of personal-history to tie into the business.
Very unique menu with a variety of choices. The salmon burger is very very good. The chicken sandwich with the Ethiopian spices is a must have. The fries are the thin ones and are always made perfectly. Go see for yourself. Check times they are open til like 9 on weekdays and 4 on weekends. Kinda unusual for a place with a bar...
Love The Fly Trap! The food is consistently outstanding. The A Forager is my go-to. Very vegetarian and vegan friendly, which seems to be difficult to find in a brunch spot. Their hot sauces are made in-house and are available for purchase. My favorite is the la picadura. It truly is a finer diner!
