Great brew pub with a chill atmosphere! Theres a screened front porch with socially distanced seating for 50+ people, a grand room and bar, and a small lounge in the back that has a nice view of the commercial grade fermenters. It was pretty easy to get roped into the Bob Ross videos on continuous play in the back lounge. One of their signature craft brews is the Freckled Belly IPA. The Devils Staircase is popular but a bit light for my bitter-loving tastes. If you want strong but delightful, thumbs up to the House Double at 9.5%. They also offer a short menu - few BBQ sandwich was a tangy and sweet (slightly more Texas than AL style). A+ all around!
The environment, food and especially the beer is top notch. My friend manages the tap room so I know the detail that has been put into its development. Their back forty burger actually won an award in Birmingham which was well deserved. They are one of our favorite places in Gadsden to eat and drink!
We went on a hike nearby and decided to stop here to get some beers and food after. The beer and burgers were amazing. I would go back for the burger and fries alone. The staff was attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was inviting. Plus one for offering feminine hygiene products at no cost in the ladies room.
Really nice place, with delicious beer on Tap. The setting here is very rustic and chill. They have fin trivia on Thursdays where you win prizes. The also have a nice array of board and card games that you can play while eating. We also tried some of their food that was delicious. They cook it in-house, instead of having to order from a parked food truck.I also tried their moonshine Margarita cocktail that was also yummy. I can tell they use nothing but fresh ingredients for their Margarita mix..not some cheap (Mr. Ts) that has all these preservatives..everything listed bit actual lime juice.***Also I want to give a shot out to Kenni Rae.. She provided us with beyond outstanding service!! She is extremely nice and walks over and greets everyone at the brewery. She makes you feel at home..very welcoming!**
A+ experience. By far my favorite brewery so far. My opinion is that the menu is limited but what is on the menu is perfect. Helpful, friendly staff. Tried 8 different beers, loved 7 of them. Will definitely be back.
My partner and I really enjoyed this brewery! After driving our travel trailer from Tennessee to Alabama, we were ready for a drink and some good food. Back Forty did not disappoint! I believe the woman who poured our beers and took our order was one of the owners, but not for sure. However, she was awesome! She recommended the perfect brews for my partner and I, as well as the perfect meal. We had the Korean Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Asian slaw and it was amazing. There was live music going on outside on the patio and the entire place was fun and welcoming. We recommend stopping here if youre ever traveling through Gadsden!
Beers on tap are awesome! My favorite of all the breweries in the area. The new porch/patio is very comfortable and dog-friendly.The food was very tasty, we ordered a burger and nachos and everything was fresh and well-prepared. My only (very minor) complaint is that the menu is pretty small and comprised of mostly heavy bar food. Id love to see some of the vegetarian and seafood options that the Birmingham location has! For now if Im in the mood for something lighter, Ill have to go somewhere else for food and come here for beer after.Otherwise a perfect location to meet up with friends for a drink. Go check it out!
Went for the jazz jam (every second and fourth Wednesday). Great food and beer, great service, and great atmosphere. If you like hazy IPAs, drink the Devils Staircase and give them all your money.
We tried several different beers. Had something to eat while listening to many musicians play Jazz. Had a great time
We Googled where to go to eat; it says closes at 7 pm. We walk in at 6:08 & got stared at. I had to ask a guy walking by do we just sit anywhere? He said, yeah, the kitchen is closed and well be wrapping up here about 6:30. I responded, Oh ok, Google says 7 pm. He responded, yeah we got some things going on so wrapping up earlier. I guess this is a locals joint. Oh well, bad review here and wont be back.
Truck stop honey is a medium-bodied english-style brown ale brewed with Wildflower honey roasted malt and fresh hops. The balance of sweet Wildflower honey and earthy hop aromas come through in every batch. Weather preparing a delicious meal or sitting Fireside truck stop honey will always keep the good times rolling!
What an awesome place. Great beer selection and great staff. It is very welcoming and has plenty of space. I would highly recommend it!!
Nice place, 1 beer will get you feeling good, nachos were good. If you have a dog its welcome in the bar or out on front porch where their is table and chairs. Off the beaten path but you will enjoy it.
Great Beer and Moonshine and sandwiches. Stayed here in our 38 ft RV on site. Great stop and nice town.
Awesome beer selection! Great location with plenty of space. Staff are super knowledgeable about the beers. Highly recommended!
Limited hours but a great place for craft beer and good food. But when they are closed head to the grocery store for Naked Pig, Truck Stop Honey or BamaMosa. All are great.
Great food substantial update to the taproom great atmosphere. Beer is as always great selection.
Great atmosphere with friendly bartenders, brewers and owners. I enjoy my visits here each time I make the trip. The food is great but the beers are second to none! The peanut butter porter and Paw Paws Peach 🍑 are must try!
Good selection; friendly, knowledgeable staff; menu selection enhanced frequently enough for a different experience every time. Never a disappointment.
Great atmosphere and tasty self brewed beers. Go pay them a visit.
Pretty modern bar with an amazing atmosphere
I only had the naked pig and the cheeseburger. Both were delicious.
The food was delicious as always and the beer was great!😊
The bartender was extremely rude. When we asked to sample a beer he acted like we asked the world of him and then rudely told us to throw away the sample it came in. In addition this bartender was NOT WEARING A MASK but still clearly felt entitled to order his customers around. While the beer was fine there are WAY better breweries in Birmingham to choose from. I will NEVER take my family here again.
Great service and great 🍺.
We enjoyed ourselves here last week. The outdoor seating was nice, the cold beer was very enjoyable in the heat of the day. Will return.
Atmosphere, staff, libations...EXCELLENT.
Missed going here since Covid very sparse crowd but great food and awesome beer as usual great service at the bar be back soon ! Oh and very safe everyone wearing masks thx for the security!
Great people and great beer.
Excellent beer, I
Great food, great beer, and great people working there. Id recommend it to anyone.
I lost my engagement ring...there and they were very helpful but I was to upset to eat but THANKFUL WE FOUND IT TODAY IN THE CAR
Great beer great local atmosphere
We love visiting back forty! The staff are always nice and friendly! The beer is great and constantly changing. There are games to play and some food as well. Theres also a patio/outdoor area for your dogs to play. They have different events several days of the week. Our current favorites are truck stop honey and the peanut butter porter.
As a Alumni of Emma Sansom I feel like the ownerWilson who on the City Council should not be expressing his opinion about doing away with our heritage and history for his political gain. Emma Sansom was a little farm girl Who helped General Forrest who was called to duty in the North and South Division.
Neat place! We enjoyed the tour and the live music. The owners wife gave us the tour and knew so much that we enjoyed learning!
Beer was super tasty, bartender was wonderful, food was good. What’s not to like? Great conversation and fun. They even helped me get back to my hotel when I needed it. If I were local I’d be here all the time
Loved the food and service, but was disappointed that I could not taste one of the regular Back Forty beers! I ordered Truck Stop--didnt have it. Cartbarn--didnt have it. The only familiar beer was the Mandarin Chief and that is not a beer to drink a few of around a reunion group. Wish they had the good Back 40s. Hopefully they will when I return.
Great service, wonderful beer. Next time will try the food
Love this place had to come because I collect Growlers there peanut butter Porter one of the best Ive had and Ive been to hundreds of breweries. Slightly over price on a few items, and was disappointed when we couldnt have free samples. $1 per sample. But would still stop in for a $5 or $6 pint.Enjoy drink responsible
Best peanut butter porter on the planet! Well be back for sure! Love this place!😊👍
Amazing beer and friendly service. Dog friendly.
Nice small place...loud but thats what you get in small areas. Crafted brews were good. Tasted a few. We all ordered different ones & samples each others. Food was ok priced but we were there for brews not food. Had some bar games to play ...to give it a bar/pub feel.
I ordered one beer Drake gave me two samples based on that Total on point. Cheese platter was very good
Good beer
Had a wonderful lunch (currently served Friday, Saturday and Sunday). BFBC is a great place to chill with friends or just wander around and look at all the cool artwork and stuff. Oh yes, did I mention beer?
My friend and I went in to eat lunch today First time there. Very Dark. No one to say where to order, if to sit or not. Small eating area with music so loud, we couldnt hear each other talk. I ordered baked beans. I was served pork and beans right out of a can. (Yes there is a difference between baked beans and Pork and beans. Menu was a piece of paper. Usually someone comes around and ask about the food or do you need anything No one came. I saw one employee. Wont go back.
Tried the Hazy and Freckle Belly IPA, both were great. I plan to stop more often when passing through.
Loved loved the brews and the bartender. I had the flight and didnt taste one I didnt love!!! Thanks for the great experience!! Worth the 2 hour drive .
Nice, quaint place exactly as described on their website. The beer was good. The staff was friendly. Nice road trip for a Saturday.
Strolled in randomly and love the family atmosphere! Class act microbrews with tasty options. I just hope they arent owned by the big guys..... Thank you for the hospitality Back Forty
This was our first trip to the brewery coming from Birmingham to meet some friends who were in town from Ohio. It in all fairness it was St. Patricks Day but the limited menu was a disappointment after having looked at the full menu online. I understand they were expecting to be busy but I didnt see a lot of people with food so it seems like it was for naught. They must not usually have a crowd because they only have one POS at the bar and that was not enough for the amount of people that were there. We did have a good time and the atmosphere was good with tables outside and inside. I would go again for sure, just probably not on a holiday.
I paid 11.95 for a burger with a side of potato wedges that were served cold. The server was not friendly. As for the brewery part, the beer was very good quality and taste as usual!
Nice atmosphere. Loved the bamamosa beer. The tostadas were fantastic.
My friend and I went there for the first time. I called before I went, asking if dogs were aloud and she said yes. I have visited several breweries in Birmingham, which you can bring your dog. Mind you, its a 100 degrees, outside. We got there, my dog is on a leash, we order, and when she brings our order, she said that she was wrong and my dog could not be inside, had to go outside, it was way to hot! So I got really mad, and would never go back there again. They need a better area outside, shaded for people to go. I will stick with Birmingham, especially Good Peoples brewery!
Great atmosphere... Good drinks and good food
Met Jason and some of the team last week. Great group of folks doing great work. Beers darn good too! Best of luck in dominating the world of beer!
This place is the best place in Gadsden to have a beer or a burger or just to go out for a good time.
Exciting time as the Gadsden Runners Club awarded The United Way $10,000!
Great beer! Keep it up Back Forty! Just had Truck Stop Honey and Fence Post down in Prattville, AL. Loved them both!
Great food. Great beer. Awesome service and a relaxed atmosphere.
Very relaxing atmosphere, great service, food and beer!
The beer is good but thats about it. You stand in line at the bar to order drinks and food (if you want a second beer you have to stand in line again). Theres typically just 1 bartender. We used to eat the bit it takes a looking time for food to come out and they had a limited menu then. We were SUPER disappointed for the 4th of july party. We planned to eat there before the first Friday event in downtown Gadsden and they only had club sandwiches for $6. So we got our sandwiches and found a place to sit. We opened them up only to find a wonder bread sandwich that looked and tasted like it hard been made at lunch time and sat out for hours. It was disgusting. I didnt even finish mine. A friend went there last week for first friday and they had only 3 things on the menu at that time. We went somewhere else and havent been back. Moral of the story go for a beer and go somewhere else to eat.
Nice folks and nice atmosphere. Definitely coming back when I can stay longer.
Cool place, with great beer, and good people.
Best staff, best beer, and best people all around!!!
We love this place. Wednesday Trivia is a lot of fun!
Love the beer. Love the food. Love the employees
Top notch foods services and selection of beers.great night out with friends.
Being steeped in Asheville NC beer culture since 1994, I love finding breweries in other areas where brewing is more recent. Back 40 makes solid beer, relatively standard selections - IPA, pale, brown, and others, some with additions and others just straight up. No Belgians, Germans, sours or other styles that I saw (this visit), just typical ales of the type youll likely find regionally and well done. The brown is actually an ESB - not quite brown enough to really be a brown and though the grain bill may have been, it really should be darker to be a brown. Still a solid, tasty beer for what it is and Im an ESB fan so, no matter. Im not much for jalapeno additions (or IPA) but theirs was just right - just a hint of aroma and not too hot...just right. I could never find out if B40 uses traditional strains for the type (ie the actual genetic strain for the type, or closest) - Im spoiled by that in AVL and my own beer, so it may just be Cali or East Coast.I dont really expect great food at breweries - but the pimiento bacon burger is off the chain for burgers - but dont bother w/ the fries. They were so overcooked they were hollow, and apparently in rancid oil (they stunk) so I chucked em.B40 is a solid in a nowhere town and the staff is friendly and helpful -talked with several of them. Would be nice to see some branching out into other (non typical) styles, but I dont live in the area or Id lobby for it. Would defly recommend it!
Cozy atmosphere and very friendly staff. Came work my travel group from Atlanta, Ga.
Friendly service, great beer, fantastic burgers!
Fantastic PBP and a really good burger!
Good beer specials. Limited food.
Good job backstreet gang ! Well worth the money for real beer yaaaay !
Great experience at Back Forty Beer Co with Thursday night yoga at 6:00!
Great atmosphere and lots of fun to kick back and visit with friends while enjoying a pint!
Great beer, great food, good friends. What more does one need in their life?
Good place to socialize and have a home town craft beer
Back Forty Beer Com. Is Absolutely Amazing!
