1st time here. 5☆ for the old school A & W feel. Drive up order service to the car. 4 cars in total at the Drive In with some picnic table dining area to enjoy your food out of your car. The garlic fries... ooh wee really good. My burger was not hot at all, flavor is good I was told it was because it was a kids burger🤔 🤏.. . I would like to go back and try this place again...
Amazing place! I have been here many times before but yesterday they accidentally over charge me and I didnt notice. This kid randomly brings out $3 something saying they over charge! It was pretty awesomeAnyways there food is amazing! Always super hot and fresh! Definitely a little $$$ though
We were in town from out of the area and stopped here because of the advertised house draft root beer and we were not disappointed! Was a little unsure about paying $40+ on wraps, fries, and floats, but holy cow it was worth it! The food and floats were incredible. If/when we are in Grass Valley again, we will definitely come back! Highly recommended!
Nice little place to eat everyone was super friendly old time drive up order from your car or go inside like going back to the 50s and 60s wouldnt have known about this place had I not talked to the locals who said they had the best garlic fries and rootbeer and they were 100% right worth the drive and money
We stopped in here while driving through grass valley looking at property because it was a local landmark and we heard the root beer was good. It was a little on the vanilla side and very good. The special hamburgers were awesome. It was a little pricey but very good. I enjoyed the older atmosphere. They bring the food out to you like other drive ins like sonic. Cups were served in Styrofoam.
This is absolutely one of the finest place in the area. Every time I come to this place I am truly pleased. They hold their very high level service and the highest level of dishes they provide. You always win with this restaurant. Highly recommended.
Blessed holy site of the chmicken sandwich, and root beer of godly proportion.
I must say best customer service for a burger place in town, really good ice cream only place in town with caffeinated root beer that taste awesome and we put that in a root beer float you by the way. Always having really interesting specials on the board too I tried the Phillies cheese steak fries so good. Overall respect respect, this place is second to none so if you want to go to a place with unique experience and really nice people then you found the place be nice to them please
Had a small root beer which was delicious, a bbq burger and order of fries. Everything was great. Would definitely eat there again
I feel satisfied after eating at Big As. Good Food!
Everything we ordered was good. I had a cob salad expecting it to be just ok and was pleasantly surprised. The club sandwich was really good and their burgers are yummy!!
I think it might have been the best rubin sandwich I ever had. Need I say more. Ok the staff seemed genuinely nice which was a big change then most other places. Keep doing what your doing cause its working.
Service was fast, friendly and helpful. Food was super good and reminded us of our favorite burger joint by where we used to live. But hands down the most I’ve EVER spent on dinner for my family of 5. 3 kids meals, 2 burgers, 1 large garlic fry and 2 drinks was $64 and some change, with tip $70.Husband and I will definitely be returning, next time without the pricey kids!
This place was really good, the burgers were big and freshly made, the one I got was a bacon avocado chicken burger, The quality was better than most resteraunt burgers, I also tried the milkshakes and they were amazing, made with real icecream and you can choose the toppings to be blended in the icecream (I chose Oreo), they are slightly more expensive than your average fast food place, but worth trying.
Best burgers in town. You know how you always get the best burritos from a truck, or Chinese food in some strip mall near a laundromat. Well this is a whole in the wall sandwiched between a bankrupt movie theater and a tow yard. But trust me stop in and grab a burger.
Milkshakes were great and the staff is friendly and prompt. You have the option of drive-in, dining outside or inside. They even have a bar to sit at whilst you enjoy your burger.
Staff is awsome food is delicious prices are reasonable this place is definitely a hidden gem
Went for my moms 94th birthday our orders came out great and so much food. Everyone left stuffed
You get what you might expect, a drive-in experience. Food is pretty good and the milkshakes are great. Everyone should try it.
The owner better start suoervising. My delux burger had a single quarter size onion and tomato and meat was burnt.Been going there 40 years. Very disapointed...????????
Oman ....omg.....rootbeer float to die for ....Burgers to kill for ..Customer service that was so awsome ..The place was clean the workers where great and it was such a cool place to eat so awsome so cool so good the 🍟 where amazing I had the Philly fries omg omg omg 😲 😍 😋 😀 🙌 😊 you guys should be on a show the best
Very good food must try their root beer it is amazing
The absolute best Ortega burger I have ever had.... The service was just as spectacular loved this little stop
It’s old school drive in that also offers indoor and outdoor seating. my wife, my kids and myself all enjoyed the ambiance of this drive in style burger spot and the food was wonderful. A little on the pricey side but well worth it.
Have to have a root beer float with a burger and sweet potato fries! Huge portions.
Yes please!!! Always a good choice and they make their own diet rootbeer. Delicious!
Must go so good! Fresh and yummy
Great American drive in with carpark ordering and big tasty burgers.
We love this place! Root beer is fantastic, burgers are delish, hit dogs are superb.
Soooooooo gooooood!!! We had the Patty Melt, Grilled Cheese, Garlic Pesto Fries and Rootbeer, of course! All were amazing!!!
Always great food and fast service.
Excellent food and service. Dogs allowed outside, they provide water bowl
Really good, fresh grub. Ive been ordering the southwest chicken salad and only wish they offered salsa. They had a verde sauce 1 day which was excellent but havent had it since. Also had their chili with cheese and onion. For the price I wish there was more but it was really satisfying and Im shocked to say that there was actually too much cheese! I was fighting strings of melted cheese in every single bite! Honestly, it was very close to a choking hazard! It was a nice surprise as lets face it, you usually just get a pinch on top.Several weeks ago I also got their Reuben. Oh My Delishisness!! It was a diet break and it was soooo very worth it! One of the very best Ive ever had! So amazingly good!
The chicken and chips and rootbeer are amazing!
I come to a place like this expecting greasy American food and this place DELIVERS. I dont know what Id do without Big As in town when the hunger for some fried chicken tenders strikes.Probably best to stick to the classics though at a place like this. The employees are always pleasant and nothing beats a classic drive in spot.
Huge portions, good food, little on the pricey side, but worth it.
Really good food and best Root Beer Floats ❤ a little pricey since the last time I was there but that was before the pandemic so I can blame em if they did raise their prices some. 👍But still so worth it ! Great services as well !
Got dang best root beer and floats for 1,000 miles. Unbeatable
$10 for the worst BLT ever! I mean how hard is it? The toast was burnt, the lettuce wilted, wet and gross. The bacon, half was raw, the other half burnt hard as a rocwas OK. tomato was ok.
Quality seems to have gone down with food but its still a great place to eat with the family.
The garlic fries are the bomb!! Especially with a side of Ranch!!!
Got food to go yesterday. Order was wrong again. Older lady with blonde hair. I ordered a classic burger with sauce on side. I received someones bacon burger loaded with mayo. When I called she said hey we get a hundred orders a day. What do you want to do. Liked the food but not going back. Other good burgers in town.
Great burger...the Ortega Chile burger was awesome!!
Such great tasting food and always friendly staff! Love it here at Big As!
Always love to stop by when opportunity allows me to stop and enjoy some root beer and couple of items to eat!
Great burgers, fries & shakes. Excellent sandwiches, too!
I havent been there in a couple of years but $40 for two people to have hamburgers? Never again.
I wouldnt have mind the outrageous prices IF the food was good. The flat warm root beer was not what I had in mind. Skip this place . Did however have pleasant employees.
Great place for a burger, I had an Ortega Burger and a root beer float. It was perfect! Everyone should try this place.
Always delicious! I got the blue cheese mushroom burger, fries, & root beer. Soooo good. 🤤
Good food. I thought pricey but portions are huge so not bad at all. Service good. I liked this place.
Our first time here since moving. It’s freaking amazing food. Old school drive in. Service was quick and staff was super friendly. I have seen some folks complain about prices. I work in food service and for the amount of food you get, it’s comparable and well worth the spend. Not to mention we get to support local and don’t even get me started on how good the root beer is... 😍😍 10/10 would recommend.
Had root beer floats were great
Double cheeseburger, with a large root beer(only soda I drink these days), and a large tots. I like my tots to be cooked less.People were not wearing masks inside the restaurant, employees and customers.
Family favorite. 2-3 times a month
Food and service are good, but ridiculously expensive.
One of the most amazing hamburgers I have had in my life. They real nail authentic drive in taste. Amazing garlic tots/fries. Price is right, A++++++
A favorite in grass Valley, you really want a root beer floatYou know you do
Great food, nice and polite employees. A little on the pricey side on some things! Burgers are my favorite! At a good price.
$35 for 2 burgers 2 fries... the burgers were incredibly dry and not a whole lot of flavor. Assuming its frozen patties. Fries were alright, nothing special. It was surprisingly busy for the low quality of the food which led to a pretty good wait time, admittedly it was about 1230 so must be the only place in town that sells burgers for lunch. Been driving by for a long while and finally stopped in, sadly I wont be returning
Little hi on price but good
Love the old time feel and the food is fresh.
Great food, old school vibe
Great burgers, small town drive up fun!!
This place is great for the all American food we all know and love... Their burgers and sandwiches are all pretty awesome. And the service has always been great in my experience. But the best thing about Big As is their homemade rootbeer! Its some of the creamiest rootbeer Ive ever had! Then when you add some vanilla ice cream to the mix, you get one of the best floats around! If you have not been here, then its a must!!
Pesto garlic fries thats all Im gonna say.
This place has a great burger. I got the 1/4 pound burger and a root beer. The burger was delicious, great ingredients and the root beer was also delicious. I am not sure what kind of root beer it is, but it is definitely tasty. The staff is quick and friendly. The parking lot is nice as if you do not want to get out of your car, you can order at the drive up locations and they will bring out your food to you.
Cheeseburgers were large and juicy! Messy, but very yummy! Fries were the bomb especially when dipped in ranch dressing. It was my first time and Ill be back!
Pesto fries were delicious!!!! I just got the basic burger w/cheese, which was tasty and to top it off, I had a medium Black Cow(not a Big one). I will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu.
Fast service, tasty food.
Decent burgers and fries. Can be slow to get food. Overall good option for togo fast food.
We had our first Big A experience last week and boy oh boy were we pleasantly surprised! We made the drive which is about 35 minutes each way for us, we were so committed because of all the great reviews lolUpon arriving it was pretty busy for the middle of the week, but then again it was lunch time and this place had great reviews so we took it as a great sign. We pulled into a drive in stall and took our time looking over the menu, they are small and its kind of tough for passengers not seated next to the menu to see, but we took a picture of it and had our backseat passenger take a look that way so no worries. We also noticed pretty much everything is a la carte, which we were fine with since we wanted to try a few different things. My husband ordered the Sonora Burger, Garlic Pesto Fries and of course a Root Beer, I had a Hamburger with Cheese and my mother and I shared a medium sized French Fries, she ordered the Patty Melt and a Coke. They do give you the option to call in your order from the stall or push the button, the button works great if another person isn’t ordering at the same time its really loud and can be distracting when trying to do your own order, because the stalls are so close to one another and the family next to us were outside of their car ordering and weren’t wearing masks we just called ours in. The employees were very friendly and efficient and gave us a wait time of about 15 minutes. Our total for our order was $48 kind of steep for what we ordered, but again its all al la carte. We asked about a military discount and they gave us 10% off which was so nice, thank you! Our food came out hot and fresh and delivered to our car. My husbands burger was HUGE!! My moms Patty Melt was also a good size and smelled delicious, and my burger was also bigger than expected for just a regular burger. For a medium french fry we expected something a little bigger, but it worked for me and my mom to share, my husbands Garlic Pesto fries looked to be a medium size too so that was great for him. My husband isn’t big on Root Beer, but he loved this one and I agree it was totally delicious! We all enjoyed our food and how fresh and filling it all was, even though we were full we wanted to try some dessert, so we ordered again before leaving. My husband had a Strawberry Milkshake, I had a Root Beer Float and my mom a scoop of Strawberry Ice Cream that bill came to $14, my husband thought his milkshake was good, but nothing to write home about my mom thought the same of her ice cream, the ice cream kind of tasted freezer burnt and not enough strawberry flavor. I was excited for the Root Beer float because of all the reviews raving about it, but it was just ok. I honestly think the ice cream ruined it. The Vanilla also tasted freezer burnt and just wasn’t good, the Root Beer was so delicious though so I was happy to drink some of that, also being in the stall I obviously didn’t get to try it in a frosted mug or have refills and I’m sure tat helps with it tasting a lot better when you are seated inside. Overall we would definitely come back for more delicious eats and the root beer, but we’ll skip dessert next time. Thanks so much for the great service and military discount!
The most amazing burger Ive had in a long time
Best Old Fashion Burger and Fry Drive-in/Diner Ive ever been too. Options include a large selection of Burgers, Dogs, Fries, Salads and Shakes + more! Options may seem slightly pricey but you definitely get your moneys worth. Inside has booth and bar seating available and I believe there are 6-8 drive in stalls out front. Outdoor benches w/ umbrellas also available. Theres a rather small but still functional restroom around the backside of the building that youll need to get the key for after you order. Friendly staff with excellent service, never have had any hassle their and food arrives in a timely manner. Would rate 10 stars if possible: love this place, atmosphere, and most of all the food. (Best ranch in town as well 😊)
Good rootbeer
Ridiculously good food and great service! Definitely not skimpy on anything
Formally an A&W location but the menu is a lot better, and so is the food! Still makes root beer floats and great shakes.
Fries burnt. Crew dumped a bucket of mop water into the drain where we were sitting so we a strong stench of cleaning supplies while eating. Hamburgers did not impress. Shakes were pretty good. I cant imagine returning.
The food is REALLY good, an exciting menu means I want to go back again and again!
Great place to eat. Just a little experience.
Its good food, just a little pricey. Definitely decent portions. Wont go away hungry.
Good food, good servive
Excellent burgers! Big A has always been good. As a kid we would go all the time and now, whenever Im in town, I make s point to eat here. Big burgers and generous with the fries.
The best burger place
Great staff, fast, friendly and the burgers are great, but my FAV is the huge BLT, with at least six thick strips of BACON- Wow its the best in town
It was good but not $44 for 2 that good.
Best rooter ever. Good friendly service. Great burgers.
3 stars only based on my hot Pastrami.Barely any meat for almost 10 bucks. Literally, meat, bun, mustard. The root beer floats! Excellent!!My daughter was amazed as was I. The root beer was delicious 😋 and the thick glass mugs were icy. Free refills on the root beer too!Id still eat here again. Ive had other menu selections that were great.
The Best Burgers, Best Fries, Best Rootbeer and 1st and foremost, The Best Service!
Great food, great service! The family loves the food and their root beer floats & shakes!
Best chocolate malt and burger in town. Servers are locals and fantastic. We had a great social distance dinner in our cars!
Great food and excellent service
