Looked at a used boat here. Ultimately I decided it wasnt the right boat for me and didnt buy it but they were great there. Answered all questions, no pressure to purchase and I would definitely consider buying from them in the future.
I called Liberty Boat Sales Thurs. May 30, 2019. I believe his name was Brian (could’ve been Bruce) answered and directed me to Steve when inquiring for service on my Mercury 9.9 hp 4 stroke motor. I explained to Steve that it doesn’t go into forward gear. I told him I think it is the dog clutch or spring and that I took the lower unit off and tried to remove the propeller shaft but needed a special tool. I asked him if they rent the tool. He told me they don’t and they charge $125 an hour, to bring it in and we probably can fix it in an hour. I told him I was off Tue and I’ll bring it in then.Tue I go in and Kyle tells me that they can look at it but it will be $125.00/ hour, but that they can’t look at it until sat. I explained that I need the boat for the weekend and if they can look at it Friday. He agreed and reiterated it will cost $125. I agreed on the basis of what Steve told me that they “probably can fix it in an hour”.LONG STORY SHORT I PAID LIBERTY $125 TO TELL ME WHAT I ALREADY KNEW AND TOLD THEM FROM THE BEGINNING!Friday when I picked up the boat, Steve tells me that it is in the gear box that they have to take it apart (I knew that, that is why I inquired about the tool). He said they can’t work on it until next week and charged me $125 to take the cowl off and inspect the gear shift and cables. An hour really???? Here is where I don’t think that Steve was “Building a Reputation on Customer Satisfaction”. I asked if any of that cost will go towards the repair. He said “no that it took an hour” to inspect it. Steve has lied to me twice now. When he denied that he said “probably can fix it in an hour” and “it took an hour”. I really can’t find myself bringing my boat back to people that seem to enjoy taking advantage of me. If you are going to charge me to inspect it then inspect it thoroughly and tell me what is wrong. I don’t need to know what is not wrong!I think if they want to build a reputation they should bend the rule a little and accommodate me. First of all when I told them that I thought it was the dog clutch they should have gave me an appointment to fix it not just look at the gear shift. Even Brian said when I came in Tue. “I wish he wouldn’t tell them that” (probably fix it in an hour), “I’M STAYING OUT OF THIS ONE”, he said. Lesson Learned

Service for me is the most important thing when Im spending my hard earned money I bent the cavitation plate on the main motor they did everything they could do so I didnt have to file a claim and to get the boat back for a tourneyment I had in a week the welder they use is top of the line he made it stronger than it was and looks great overall a great experience there and that is where my boat will go thanks again to everyone there
Highly recommend Jim, Bruce, and Al at Liberty Marine in Grayslake! From start to finish this experience was the BEST! After poor experiences at a Bolingbrook marine (Basa’s) I was a bit discouraged. By chance I spotted a pre-owned 2017 Crestliner 1750 Fishhawk equipped exactly how I would equip a brand new one (a fishermans dream). I worked with Jim and Bruce over the phone and net and then went in to see the boat and meet them in person. Long-short, they worked with me on getting an AMAZING price on this boat. They were patient, answered all of my endless questions, and above all....professional. Basa’s got schooled by these guys! Al the mechanic is amazing. He covered the boat and trailer top to bottom and spoke to me at great length about the motor and maintenance. He is a wealth of knowledge and his time was so appreciated! Finance was quick and easy with Bruce. I cannot say enough about these guys and this experience. I will do all of my business with them from here on out! Give them all a raise and praise them for a job well done. Thank you so much guys! You are absolute tops in every way!
