I have not visited this place in around 20 years. It still have that wonderful band smell. Nothing bad just smell like good memories. The staff was extremely nice. I hope that the upstate continues to support this business for decades to come.

One of the oldest music companies in Greenville. Always have a great stock in house and if they dont have what you need they can get it ordered quickly. From instruments for kids to sounds systems for all types of venues they are a go to company.

The lady answering the telephone doesn’t have a very welcoming demeanor or a customer centric approach. I asked whether or not you offered professional piano moving services or if you guys had any recommendations. She cut me off with her no. It’s completely understandable that you don’t offer that service or have recommendations. What isn’t acceptable is the curt response. Over the years I have purchased numerous musical instruments from your store. We have 5 guitar players, 3 piano players, 1 violinist and I play the clarinet. I don’t shop at your store very often, but whenever possible I have tried to give you all my business and purchase from you guys. Though the transactions aren’t super frequent, they are generally pricey (as one expects to pay for quality). The last time I visited I was looking for sheet music, no one offered to help. No one even acknowledged anyone in my group of 4 people as we wandered the sales floor. That wasn’t a good experience, but everyone has a rough day. So, I just dismissed it as that. Today though, with the rude phone “greeting”, the curt response to my question and the palpable unwillingness to even pretend to care, it’s clear that service isn’t something that is a priority. It’s a shame. Today’s market is too competitive to be rude to a customer who simply and politely asked a question. I’m not going to shop at your store anymore, and maybe it will make absolutely no difference to you, but if you treat enough people like they are the bane of your existence, eventually your business will not exist.

Shout out to Nick and Dave @ Pecknel! They are always knowledgeable and friendly. Nick was my excellent salesma. He took time to answer my 101 questions over the phone and when I went into the store he continued to be a delight. My 10 year old son has been taking trumpet lessons w/ Dave since October 2019 and he has really improved and honestly enjoys playing. Not happy that Pecknel required automatic draft for payments on rentals. It was motivation to pay it off quickly!

My daughter selected the French Horn to play in the school band. We took her to Pecknel to get an instrument and were told that they were out at that time. Our information was taken on a sticky note to be called when one came in. We called every couple of days only to be told that they had not arrived. Finally I was told that they were not going to get any more. I told the employee that told me this that I was told I was on a waiting list, he transferred me to the rental department. Once again I was told that they hadnt received any YET. I told him that the last employee told me they werent getting anymore and asked if this was true. He said it was true. So basically all these employees, save the one who answered this day, knew the truth and lied. I asked for the manager and was given to James. James listened to my rant and I asked how it could be considered good business practice to lie to the customer. Obviously he had no answer but to apologize. I asked for another rental company or was he the only one in the area. He said they basically were but found another obscure company. I hung up, and after a quick google search found Musical Innovations and am extremely happy. They have outstanding customer service and the prices are about half as much as Pecknel.Overall, the misleading tactics and out right lies are the reason Ill never deal with Pecknel again!!!

Vey helpful staff!

We are renting my daughters cello for middle school strings from Pecknel and I found every part of the process simple, their prices competitive and their customer service excellent. They do offer an option for renting rental returned instruments at a savings on their usual prices but as we had waited this far into the school year they did have any left in stock. The fact that they offer this option is nice tho and the new instrument that we ended up with is of nice quality for a starter school band level cello. I also like that their rental plan is rent-to-own but on a month to month basis with no fees for returning the instrument as I intend to find a good used one for her at some point but some people may like the rent-to-own option. They also offer a repair plan & a loss replacement plan at very reasonable prices. They also had us taken care of very quickly... All in all I can at least speak to their instrument rental department being really excellent.

Ive been Pecknel customer since I started band in the 80s. They were great then, and theyre great now. If they dont have it, the sales people will work their behind off trying to get it. And the repair shop people are some of the best in the state. If you are a horn player, THIS is the place you want to go for what ever you need.

Very rude stuck up salesman! We were in to buy a violin for my child in middle school. He brought ONE for us to look at. It was priced at $329. We must have made a mistake asking if that was the cheapest model they had, because he huffed and rudely said we dont have cheap instruments!We obviously meant the least expensive model. This was the first stop looking for a violin and we werent just going to buy the first... and only... Violin we saw. We immidiately told him you dont get to talk to me like that! and walked out. We wont ever be back in. The pretentious, entitled, middle aged, stocky, bald man is not good for business if thats how he treats everyone.

Bought trumpet 2015 while child was in middle school, now in high school, we needed a different instrument and was willing to trade up. Pecknel was not interested. Why would I consider spending another couple of thousand dollars with a store that wont even consider buying what they sell?

2nd encounter: Much better, I had to deal with them b/c they were all I could find in the area that knew clarinets. My niece is happy & thats what counts more than anything. In the end, the service improved and all are happy1st encounter: Just Dont! Its not worth your time. Rarely do I have negative reviews. People here are not reliable.

I grew up going to pecknel for all our instrument needs (and I played band as a homeschooler when they offered that), and now after my experience as an adult with my own kids, my impression was even more positive.All the employees, and especially the manager (Trent?) went way above and beyond, were super kind and helpful.My son has been soooo super super happy with his new guitar!I’m really grateful for this store and they definitely just won my loyalty for life!
