I feel I owe the owners and the restaurant an load of Gratitude and thanks for years of giving me a great oppotunity in allowing me to grow a business I once had in the area. The food is awesome! It is Real Jewish deli food. the Brisket Corn beef and pastrami is the best. On top of which the soup is to die for. Sage Deli is not only a great restaurant the owners and staff were my friends. They were there for me when my mom passed and they truly cared for me as a human being. I moved away a few years ago and lost touch but I can honestly say I think of Iris and Harvey all the time. Id like to say hello to everyone and hope is all well, and Id like to say if you want true New York Jewish Deli GO TO SAGE! They are the best! I highly recomend them! If you want the feeling of a family business where the owners actually care about the customers go to Sage - The owners and staff are wonderful!
Good food. Restaurant was understaffed but they did work hard. A quirk -if you order a side of chopped liver, thats what you get. Crackers or bread with it would make for a better experience. Still have the best bagels around! The guy that cuts the lox is very skilled- he cuts it so thin that you can read a newspaper thru it! But it does taste great
First and last time coming to this place. No prices listed. Ordered two bagels Plain and Onion both made the same way with cheese and slice turkey nothing different than you would find in a cafe or even McDonalds.I got two bagels that did not look like what I saw displayed nor did I get an onion bagel. I believe the elderly guy gave me what he felt like.I asked for the bread to be toasted and it was not and really dense. No flavor. He gave free food to a lady in front of me.Then quoted me $31 for two bagels, after making the sandwiches!!! (Ring the price up first so people know in advance) I must have paid for my food and the ladys own. I did not object but he proceeded to tell me its Kosher so thats why. If it was a really great sandwich I would not have mind but $14 a piece for a half eaten weird looking bagel.I think I prefer non Kosher and Ill just pray over my own food next time.
Clean, large, spacious deli with so much to choose from! We went straight for the homemade bagels, toasted and buttered...perfection! If you are like me and like your bagel perfectly toasted just ask them to run it through twice. Customer service was warm and welcoming and we cant wait to go back!
My apologies for all the other MANY wonderful bagel shops in FTL and MIA I have tried, but my search is over. Actual thin layer of crisp and crunchy crust surrounding bagel chew with each mouthful a la New York. No contest. Good night. Go home. Full deli and sit down restaurant, but I havent tried them.
Been coming to Sage for over 10 years. Bagels were always great, but up until recently service was a problem from time to time and quality of food had declined. However, we’ve seen a major improvement in recent visits. Food is now really good and so is the service! Also, it has been recently renovated. This morning we had a nearly perfect experience - order taken promptly by a very pleasantly waitress. Our food, toasted bagels with nova lox platter arrived very promptly and bagels were exactly as requested - one toasted well and the other lightly toasted. Even the cashier was lovely. Worth giving Sage another try if you haven’t been for a while.
The pudding is GREAT ! I added some pure maple syrup for an excellent decadent desert ! With a glass of milk. Good service. The young lady at the cash is very cute. Thank you.
Outstanding deli. Really good food. The service could be faster but it is worth the wait
One of the last New York style delis in town. They make bagels in house. Open faced sandwiches lox and whitefish platters. It may not be all that fancy inside but the quality is much better than Too Jays. I come here weekly for a taste of my childhood favorites. It isnt cheap but its worth it. If pastrami on rye corned beef or nova lox is what you dream about when you sleep, this is the last place to get it in Hallandale.
Best food in town. They just renovated too now so everything matches up. Wasnt too sure about the prices at first, but after eating there I didnt care. You cant get quality food like that from a lot of places.
Let me start by saying, the food is great and the bagels may be the best in South Florida. With that being said, my experience this morning was a nightmare. My waitress was clearly intoxicated ( its breakfast for crying out loud). I didnt catch her name, but I have to imagine the owners know exactly whom Im speaking of (black and gray hat). She was a mess. My order was wrong but I didnt even bother to correct it. She had an aggressive disposition and I didnt want a confrontation so early. She was angry and her eyes glazed over clearly the lights were on, but no one was home. If that wasnt enough, I could hear screaming and cursing from the back. I gave 2 stars because the food really is good, but I have grave reservations eating at an establishment thats willing to subject its guests to service from a drunkard.
A delicious array of salads such as, tuna, bean, whitefish, chopped liver, pasta and so much more! Their sandwiches are large and plentiful! Also the staff is courteous, knowledgeable and actually listens to what you ask for! They have just recently updated / remodeled the inside and it looks GREAT!!! My absolute favorite DELI in South Florida. I drive 20 miles just to get one of the many huge sandwiches and salads that they offer. Ive been coming here for years and the quality and quantity has always been consistent, if not, even better than the first time Ive been here. Just.....YUMMMMMMM!!!!
$5.35 for a bagel with cream cheese?!!!!! Ordered an everything bagel and I got sesame seed. Stood at counter for 5 mins before I was even acknowledged. Not very friendly workers. I cant imagine how much an actual breakfast cost. The bagel and cream cheese was tasty but the price is absolutely outrageous!
I havent been here in a long time. There was no one to seat us, we sat ourselves at a booth, it was dirty. Someone came right away to clean our table, waitress was very attentive. Restaurant floor was filthy. The food was good, I ordered French toast, my friend ordered blintzes. The food was good but a lot of waitresses standing around could have been doing something more constructive.
Traditional deli foods, you’ll always get a good meal. This is a local spot for sure. Staff is friendly and Sage has been around for a long time so you know they are doing something right.
Some of my first memories are of going with my Father to purchase Smoked Salmon. Though I have had more exotic types of Salmon, I experienced the pinnacle of fish preparation at the Sage today. I purchase a half pound of smoked Salmon yesterday. When I opened it today I was marveled by the preparation. The slices were perfect to the grain. The technique was the most perfectly thin sliced fish that had each piece translucent in appearance and texture. I am from NY and I am spoiled and I have high standards. I can say absolutely that this order was sliced as well as any I have ever seen.
I ordered half and pastrami sandwich and a soup. The waitress suggested french fries as a side. When I received them I took to bites and the french fries had a weird sweet chemical taste. I tasted the catsup separately and it was fine. I mentioned it to the waitress and suggested she try one. She refused and said she would exchange it. I did not enjoy the experience. I use to frequent this place years ago. I will never return. They did not give me my receipt.
Been a while but they still awesomeIt has been more than a decade since I had visited Sage Deli. I visited 2 Sundays ago and it was worth the tripThe bagels were nice and chewy and schmear of cream cheese stuffed the bagel. It was worth the cream cheese mustache.Price was reasonable. Will be visiting again . Wont 15 years between visits
Great food. However not a good spot for a quick bite. It is SLOW but worth it.
I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, on Jewish deli food. Now moved to Florida, its hard to find a genuine pastrami sandwich. But I did at Sage, perfect sandwich, just like the old days back in the 60s. Seeded rye bread, pickle, with mustard. And they give you a half pickle. I been there 3 times, and know a four star deli.
There is no better fresh absolutely delicious bagel or even when almost a week old toasted heavenly with butterOne could survive happily forever with a sage bagel ... if only that were entirely true I’d be set for life
Best bagel in South Florida period! Chewy not bread like. Boiled then baked the way it should be done. The only thing I will say is the service is slow and semi sucks, but the bagel is good enough for the wait. I havent had a bagel that tasty since NYC.
Closed Permanently (abruptly) as of Mar 10, 2020.So sad, it was an institution. Had the best NY boiled/baked bagels south of NY.
Being a transplanted New Yorker I was always hoping I could find a tasty New York City style bagel . My search ended when I stumbled on this gem of a place in Hallandale . Sage Bagel exceeded my expectation. I ordered an everything bagel with lox and cream cheese . The service was fast and the server very attentive to my needs . The Bagel was a delicious old style bagel I grew up eating not the usual tasteless Florida bagel that I’ve grown accustomed to . The cream cheese was fresh and lox was freshly cut . I could not leave though until I sampled their award winning Matzoh ball soup . Once again Sage Bagel passed the test . If you want to get a feel of a traditional old style New York eatery Sage Bagel is your place . I definitely will be back to sample their other items .
Recommend the Chicken in the Pot because it’s delicious and warming. The lox bagels and chicken salad are delicious. Just all around great old fashioned food .
Horrible service. Table was dirty and they waitress stopped to watch me wipe down the table. Wrong food brought multiple times. Took 40 min from when we started getting out eggs to when we got the last of the food we ordered.
I used to come here on the weekends with my family to get breakfast, and it used to be a good place! But after a while the place became dirty, overall outdated and the food wasnt as good and fresh as it used to be. Then quality of the food downgraded tremendously! With 3 other great delis in the area(one of them witch just remodeled, modernized & added a 24 hour Walk up window) in the area. I would recommend remodeling and modernizing the place, and bringing up the quality of your products like you used to have it! or youre going to go out of business quick!Customers reading this review, if I were you I would stay away from this place and weigh your options! As again theres 3 other great delis in the area! Dont be fooled by other reviews and how long theyve been in business! It once was the best! But not anymore! And theyre far from it!PS even after the so called renovations the food is still not that good and they need to raise their standard on food quality tremendously, especially compared to what they used to be back in the day. Also it seems to be that the so called renovations are very minor and not anything close to a full complete renovation
Im home sick with a cold so thought Id order chicken soup. They dont deliver so I paid a premium through Delivery Dudes. Got it pretty quick and hot (thank you DD), but what I got was broth and some noodles at the bottom of the quart. I called Sage to confirm if this is how they serve chicken soup - no chicken, no veggies. They confirmed. Ive got a pic of it if youd like to have a look.
Great place for delicious deli food in Hallandale Beach, FL. I love their bagels and everything they serve. Its like a Brooklyn Deli in a warmer climate. Whats not to love!
It took a good half hour before we could attract a waitress to take our order. The place wasnt even that busy. Then we watched as 3 new tables were seated, orders taken and food brought out. Finally, I got up from our table, went to the person at the cash and complained about not getting our food. When it finally came out (2 corned beef sandwiches) they we so dry that we could hardly get a mouthful down. After making the mistake of struggling through a half sandwich each, my wife got up and left to walk around the plaza. I then spent the next 15 minutes trying to get our waitress to give me a bill. Finally, I went up to the cash register to pay the bill without having received it. The person at the cash (an owner I presumed) made me wait while she counted out money from the tip pool. I told her that it was the worst sandwich and the worst service I have ever had . She didnt really appear to care. Needless to say, I didnt leave a tip and made it known that I will never eat there again.
Wonderful and fresh food every time. It is a great family business and my family and I love the fresh fish and sandwiches. Great lunch place and takeout! Highly recommend.
Best bagles in south florida. Made onsite.
Good food and great service atmosphere not so much
Place was horrible, one the cashier was very rude and didnt want to help, I paid almost 60 for some food that taste like doo-doo. First time and last time never will I go back and I see why they close. Terrible service.
Very rundown place, the employees don’t care about the customers. No hello nothing like that at all. The waiters took forever to take the order, she was sitting in the corner talking on her phone. I’ve asked her if it’s ok to please an order and she responded “ I’ll be right there”. 10 minuets later she finally decided to come and take our order. While i was in the bathroom 2 employees walked out of there WITHOUT WASHING HANDS and went to the kitchen right away. Horrible place. Never ever step my foot in there again
Fresh food and the best bagels I ever had. Service is fast and everyone is friendly.
The babaganous was so salty and hard, could not swallow it. I have eaten babaganous and it is creamy and tasty. The sable fiah was also salty as heck. Expensive and not worth it at all!!
Food order was served fast, but inaccurate. Table wobbled. Server forgot to bring the bagels with the order and when she brought the bagels, the cream cheese in the little cup was moldy. Never refilled coffee. I had heard good things about the place. Very disappointed ☹️
The. Best Deli in The Universe 5 *ALL THE WAY!
Will never go back. The service is really bad and they do not have any prices posted. We tried to get 2 bagels to-go, we did not know how much the bagel was with or without cream cheese. Also the staff is not friendly, they kept talking to each other and laughing around while customers were waiting. Finally the bagel quality is not as it used to be, it is very small and very hard. Will have to find another bagel place.
Good fresh food. Great variety of deli selections. High prices.
Really nice place.. Clean. Great selection jewish style deli. Being the bagel maven that I am, the bagel itself is a 3 out of 5.
Found this looking for bagels - and it is SO much moreEvery person working was happy and service was quickThe atmosphere was wonderful and the food was greatHighly recommend if you are looking for a good breakfast
Amazing Bagles. My daughter was dreaming about bagles one day and they were conveniently open at 6:30. She ate them straight out of the oven.
Amazing nova lox and bagels. I mean real bagels. Chewy heaven.
Worst bagel I ever had, coffee is from Walmart I guess, and the price for a coffee and lox bagel is 14.83, don’t waste your money or time
Great bagels. Had them with nova salmon. That platter plus one extra bagel made a great meal for 2 with a good value.
Good Food like any Jewish deli and expect to pay high-end Jewish deli prices
Authentic Jewish cuisine and Deli. Dining inside and out. They are in the middle of remodeling and should be finished at the end of this week. Everything is wonderful the only problem is the parking as it is terrible.
Best Food in the world!!! OMG had the salad sampler and 2 smoked fish platter. Seriously coming here again. Delicious.I spent my vacation in the area... ate brunch here twice... the food is just too good to pass up. I will be back every time I am down there. I live 5 hours away and its worth the drive.
$7.41 for 1 bagel?? Better than a Dunkin Donuts bagel is the best I can say. Very small and ridiculous price. Drive to Brooklyn Water Bagel. Half the price and much better bagels
Worst place ever!! Poor quality and disgusting food. Dont waste your money
Great local flair. True Jewish deli. Coming from new York I always stop in. And the bagels are good too.
I went for a waffle and they did not have on the breakfast menu. The bagel was fantastic. Please add waffles to your menu!
Worst service I have ever experienced. VeryRude servers. Left before ordering as we kindly asked for service twice over a 20 minute wait and waitress served 2 other customers who arrived after we were seated. I will never go back. Food is overpriced and not as good as Toojays down the street,
The place is going under renovation so appearance wise -it’s not all that. (Understandable) However, the bagels are very small in size which was very disappointing as most bagel places have big fluffy bagels . I’m giving it 3 stars because despite the above they were toasted nicely and our servers were nice and friendly. For now I won’t try this place again soon. Maybe after a couple of months .
Great place, enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
Everything here is delicious. The bagels, tuna, etc. Family has been eating here for over 20 years. Thank you Sage!
Good old school bagel shop and dinner
Best bagels in South Florida and probably rivals the NY bagels.
Delicious a little bit expensive though but the service is excellent +
A bit pricey but the food is delicious. The waitstaff are very nice also.
This place is an old overrated restaurant. No atmosphere, old chairs, and the prices are ridiculous. $18 for tuna fish? Snapple is $3. I understand markups but gouging is another story. They are a local staple that needs competition. The community deserves better
Homemade corn beef and hash. Looked and tasted funky. Ask for a side of ham. Returned with a piece a size of a pickle. $17.45 .
Great! And now they have live entertainment, room music
Workers were very nice, food was timely & awesome!
Fresh bagels great Nova, expensive but great quality. Super friendly always busy
This authentic New York bakery has a store and a restaurant inside. The deli has an amazing assortment of meats to choose from.
Over the top Jewish Delicatesen- with wonderful appetizing- run dont walk.
Good food, good service.
Amazing, and the salmon cream cheese is the best, I come down from Jupiter just for that
I was here a week ago.For now this comment relates to the bagles and bialys. Are there new owners here or us someone not watching the shop? Theyve freshened up the look but something is very different.Where have all the lineups for bagels gone over the last number of years. Honestly, I realy gave two stars because of nostalgia they dont deserve any. First let me say that Ive been coming here for over 30 years. Thats a pretty long run. Im really sorry but in the old days up to say 3 to 5 years ago my family loved fresh hot bagels and bialys from Sage. Over the past several years they have slipped from top go to spot year by year to literally bottom and not even on the radar. To the point that we prefer Publix bagels and onion bagels. Dont get me wrong those arent top notch or special either but at least edible. The bagels and bialys at Sage lack any real taste and are very very dense and the texture (crumb of the dough) isnt right. Used to be but not now. The bialys also have hardly any onion on them (last few that I bought actually had only 4 pieces of onion or less on them) and they were rock hard to start off and zero taste. Dont even try to freeze and defrost these bagels or bialys. They end up as hard baseballs. They could actually be fired into the sky and used as skeet shooting targets.SAGE you need to find a new or better baker or somebody please show your baker what to do and what they are doing wrong. Would hate to lose another Halandale Florida institution.Cmon guys get it together. This place USED TO BE great!!!!
I come here every so often, they always provide great service and the have the BEST baked salmon spread Ive ever had and the Sable is out standing with little lemon.
I love going here..food is great..very friendly place..i love Nancy..she alway waits on me..always great when i go to the Sage!!!
Old school American food. Older staff and crowd. The bagel was not bad (a bit overpriced). The only concern I have is that the place doesn’t look clean at all, the tables are dirty and don’t get me started on their bathroom. The place needs a renovation ASAP.
Old fashioned deli. Recently reenovated, great bagals.
Wonderful food and environment, sadly they are not adept to handle more than a few tables. Should you see it somewhat busy be prepared to wait...and wait
It was good! amazing challah bread yummmm
Everything Bagel was gross, old and closer to plain than everything. I guess the pound of cream cheese should have made up for it but a barely toasted old disgusting Bagel only gets worse with that much cream cheese. The service was bad, workers and patrons were rude, but if you like a mix of bad food, old uppity scum bags and incoherent morons.. Definitely go there!
Great selection of bagels & ancillary prducts.
Nice and reasonably priced breakfast! i love the Deli sandwiches for lunch also!!!!
They say that indicators of a bad/unsanitary restaurant are unwashed menus and tons of items to choose from. Not only this, but the whole place is really gross. The food is subpar at best, and there’s a lot of evidence of uncleanliness.
Gear place great service great food!!!!
Best Nova, old style diner, where everything is fresh.
So good!! Whenever we are in Hallandale we stop by at sage and stock up on bagels.
Decent food. More on the expensive side. Not overly clean.
Always good, delivery is great, but a little pricey @$10. My dad always stocks up here before going back to Naples, since thats the goy coast of FL and its impossible to find good deli..
Food is fantastic as always however service could be much faster at the deli.
The pitts. Make the 15 minute drive to Big Apple Deli on Biscayne Blvd in NMB
Good bagels, but I dont like sharing it with roaches.!
Love this place for breakfast, just love their bagles🤗
Friendly waitress, but I was surprised that the bialies arent that great - tried them twice, wont get them again
Poor service and overpriced. With that said, the way overpriced Brisket sandwich is delicious. There is an empty space across from this restaurant. An ambitious restaurateur could kill it here with a great deli.
As long as I get my baked salmon salad and my toasted bialy from Sage Deli, I am happy. I dont care that the waitresses are not sweet. They are efficient. Everything I have ever had from here has been of good quality. The challah french toast, the omelettes, the bagels. I almost cried once when I went and the restaurant was closed due to renovation. I take a pound of baked salmon salad home every time I go, so I can bask in the deliciousness for the rest of the week. I dont care if it costs me over $20 for the salad. If you want good bagels, go to Sage. If you want to make friends, go somewhere else.
Best in South Florida, for Bagels,Deli Sandwiches, home made soups, salads, cakes, cookies and smoked fishes they have all your favorite foods.
40 years consistently the best bagels ever.
Good food and service
My favorite place to eat breakfast no1 has better bagels
Best real deli food in the area!
5 stars for the bagels & cream cheese, very delicious, but 4 stars for the atmosphere.
