Excellent customer service. I took my bike in for help with sizing. They attached my bike up to a trainer and watched me ride to see where I might need some fine-tuning. Ended up getting a shorter stem which helped my posture significantly. They went above and beyond, and Ill definitely be going back for any needs in the future.
Finding a bike during this time is dificult. I live is St. Louis and the closest available bike that I wanted was at Word of Bikes. I called to make sure it was available on Wednesday and put a deposit down. I told them I would be there on Saturday to pick it up. I got there right when the shop opened at 10:00. Bike was ready and they put my pedals on, made sure it was adjusted properly for me and I was ready to go. From the time I called, to being greeted when I entered the store and until I wheeled my new bike out the service was great! Everyone was friendly, the process was efficient and smooth. I would have loved to purchase a bike from one of our local bike stores however, not being able to, Im glad I was able to get it from World of Bikes. I didnt want their service to go unnoticed and I want to thank the entire staff for making the process easy for me. THANKS!
Great place! My sister bought an electric bike, her husband broke his hip and they extended the return time for her without penalty.
World of Bikes has become my preferred shop in the area and is the only place to which I bring any gear. I purchased my daily rider at another store (see my other reviews if you care) but was immensely dissatisfied with their repair skills and willingness to treat me with anything beyond disdain. The next time I needed servicing WOB immediately included me in every step of the repair process and made me feel welcome. Bryan was the fellow who has been involved in the most involved repairs (replacing a freehub on a fatbike) and has been nothing short of wonderful. Weve traded emails, calls, and he has kept me in the loop constantly as we hunted parts online. When we found the right part and it worked perfectly he called me with excitement, telling me my bike was nearly ready to go. He actually cared about the process, which made me feel like part of the team. The prices have always been reasonable and the turnarounds rapid, which is by no means the norm in Iowa City.A few times Ive waited a long time for the checkout staff to help me with something, but the mechanics have always been great, and theyre the soul of any bike shop.Highly recommended.
Super friendly and helpful local bike shop. Excellent quality bikes. Great trade in program for kids bikes too!
Purchased new bike with helpful advice from them. Bike was well built and will return to get a good fit and add accessories. Always helpful. Plus free advice on local trails and routes.
Great place to find bike parts, the staff is always so friendly & patient with me. I don’t always know the right terms, but the staff really listens & tries to understand. We purchase all our kids’ helmets there, great selection!
Brought in bike to get a new back wheel. It was recommended that I go with a “custom built” wheel versus a “machine built” wheel. I asked on the price before making the decision and they said $142 so I agreed. Went to pick up the bike today and total was $190! I asked how we got to $190 when I was told $142. She said “ you can talk to the guy that built it. I just went ahead and paid it to forego an argument with the staff. The work does look good, but to me that is unacceptable. If you tell a customer a price, you honor that price. Guess I will be bringing my bike elsewhere to get serviced in the future
Great bike shop! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff that know not everyone is a racer. They provide great bikes for the whole family. Service department is awesome. They will give you an accurate estimate before they do the work and have a quick turnaround time. They do so many different things for the community too! Use to visit all the time but have moved away. Called Monday to order a couple tires for my son’s bike and they arrived on Wednesday! Awesome service! Support local!!!
Super friendly staff that were so helpful in my repair! Thank you World of Bikes!
Fantastic and helpful staff! Ordered what I needed and helped me install it!
Very knowledgeable staff
I wisely waited to buy a new bike until months into the COVID-19 pandemic, when virtually nothing was available. Okay, not my fault as I was recovering from back surgery. Ryan (the owner) took time to set me up with a test ride on a very busy Saturday, and then chat with me about the frame and build I wanted to order. Thats no easy thing right now.Short story, to get me rolling, Ryan and his manager came up with a game plan that made the least (short term) financial sense for them, and the most for me. It was beyond surprising. And Im out riding, and having a blast on my new black, Salsa Vaya. These are tough times for our local businesses. Support them. Treat yourself to the best possible service from folks who arent there to take your every last dime, but to get you set up on a bike youll love, within your budget.Make World of Bikes your first--and last--stop.
I recently went in to get some bike work done. Was met by a truly rude and arrogant staff member. I will not set foot in this store again.
Great customer service. Didn’t push me to buy more expensive things. Shared the pros and cons with me of different options. Brian helped me pick out a bike and I had a great experience. Have also called in with questions and they have been very patient and helpful
Had a stripped screw on a lock on grip and they let me being it in and took care of it quickly and didnt charge me! Very helpful, friendly and will have all my business from now on...Thanks again!
World of Bikes sits in a cluster of three bike shops, each carving out their own niche in the market. Ive had good experiences at all three, but I can personally vouch for World of Bikes customer service and standing by their product. After I helped a friend pick out a Trek, she decided a week later she wanted a drop-bar road bike rather than the flat-bar hybrid she purchased. Returning the bike she purchased wasnt a problem, and they helped her pick out something that would work better for her needs. I also know World of Bikes staff to be great about answering questions - if I ask about something a staff person isnt particularly knowledgeable on, they will grab another staff person who is more knowledgeable on that topic.
This shop is great. The sales staff is always happy to see a customer walk through the door. You never get the feeling the would rather be talking to someone else or that you are wasting their time. The bike techs are just as friendly and always happy to answer a question about bike repair. The quality and value of the repairs is top notch also. The sales area is always clean and orderly, there are a ton of bikes to check out and they are all displayed in logical order. This makes checking out similar bikes really simple and you dont feel like you are being dragged all over the shop just to check out 3 different road bikes. This shop has a well earned reputation as a beginner friendly bike shop, but they also have some of the hottest high end bikes in the area. If you are looking for the crown jewel in your stable, you owe it to yourself to check out World of Bikes.
Great bike shop. Excellent customer service
Just bought a new bike. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Low key environment and everyone willing to help. I would highly recommend world of bikes to anyone looking for a new bike, accessories or repair.
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Im a new rider and they were very helpful in educating me by answering all my questions! High recommend!
My wife and I stopped in today to look at bikes, we had both not ridden in several years and had certainly never ridden higher quality bikes. The wonderful people at World Of Bikes took the time to help us select the right bike, and right size of bike for our needs. They let us test ride several bikes and were very patient with all of our questions. We decided on a pair of Trek Verve 3s and are thrilled with them. Weve already taken them out today. I would highly recommend World Of Bikes to anyone that needs bicycles or accessories. Great Store!Mike & Michelle Brown
Best bike shop in the area bar none! The customer service here is outstanding; helpful to everyone at every level of experience and savvy. World of Bikes definitely does not have that cliquish vibe that so many bike stores give off.I started cycling in 2011 and have bought 3 bikes there since then--randonneur/commuter bike, road bike, and fat bike, and got great recommendations from the shop on all of them.I also trust the mechanics. They are all very knowledgeable and honest. The expertise in the store is extensive. Their staff includes pretty much every type of cyclist. They are also heavily involved in the community, including sponsoring many local cycling and triathlon clubs, which helps keep those clubs visible and viable.I have tremendous loyalty to this place.
I absolutely love going to World of Bikes in Iowa City. The staff is always friendly and helpful. A few years ago, my family had given me some World of Bikes gift cards so I could purchase a new bike shortly after I returned from a tour in Afghanistan. I stopped in the store and spoke with the owner, Ryan. I told him that I had just returned from overseas and was looking for a bike. He thanked me for my service and not only gave me an unbelievable deal on a new TREK, but gave me some in-store credit to buy some accessories as well. WOW!!! I will never forget that. I’m a World of Bikes customer for life!
Their collection of new-old-stock supplies is actually incredible, though hardly seen by most people. For someone looking for a rare or hard-to-find old part (like a bottom bracket or headset piece), its worth asking if they have it in a drawer somewhere. Ive also had no trouble finding an employee who knows where these odd bits are kept. Definitely a cool place.
Took two third graders and a second grader into the store today to upgrade to 24 bikes. The staff was busy with lots of customers and we had endless questions (and consternation) about mountain bike vs road bike, trade-ins, accessories. Andrea could not have been more patient and pleasant and helpful. Everyone else working there seemed happy and eager to help too. They all seem to know how to handle a lot happening at once without getting frazzled or curt. Wonderful environment. Well never go anywhere else.
Like many people, I feel a bit intimidated when I walk into any bike shop... I try to DIY my bike maintenance as much as possible, but I still feel acutely amateur in a place like this. That said, Ive been into this place many many times, and cant recall a single negative experience... tools or accessories found and purchased, questions answered or repairs made. Theres several good bike shops in town, so this is by no means your only option, but Id never discourage anyone from hitting this place up for any of your bike related needs/wants.
I messed up the crank arm on my bike. I toted it into WOB on a busy morning at the shop. The service at WOB was great -- had a new crank on it and back rolling super quick. Very knowledgeable staff and service tech. Also, really appreciated WOB support on the Courage Ride for Sarcoma Research this past weekend. Chapeau, fellas!
They sold me my 1st road bike and thus got me hooked on the sport. . . Plus, they were more than accommodating in teaching me the ins and outs of beginner bicycle maintenance and the sport in general. Great folks!
I had a great experience buying a new bike at World of Bikes. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. When I walked in they were eager to help and let me test ride anything. I was assured that the bike I was looking at would suit my needs and the price was the best in the CR/IC area. Finally, they gave the bike a final adjustment, went over maintenance with me, and registered the bike for me. World of Bikes was worth the drive from Cedar Rapids.
I will always recommend WOB. The owner seems to personally care about every customer that walks through the door. The employees don’t just work at the bike shop, they seem to live and breathe biking, and seem to truly care about your needs as a rider. I stop in sometimes just to get my mind off the daily grind. Don’t hesitate to try them out.
Awesome service. Fair, transparent and straightforward. You can feel the staff’s passion for bikes!
Great store. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Good prices; the models I looked at were comparable to those found online.
Operated very professionally, this shop caters to the full range of cyclists. Knowledgeable staff and perhaps the finest mechanics in the state, not just Iowa city. Each semester the students that take my hand built bike courses, seeking out where to go, always talk among themselves, go to various shops, and then almost always settle on WOB.
Awesome bike shop great with kids & adults looking to get into biking. The sport/activity is much more enjoyable with quality, they have quality staff, gear, parts and exceptional service! Small town local business.
Ive purchased six bikes from World of Bikes. I keep coming back because of their great service and advice. The folks there really know cycling and bicycles. They take the time to understand your riding ability. Theyll put you in the right bike.
I HAVE BEEN A CUSTOMER SINCE 1974, BEGINNING WITH DAN NIDEY AND HIS CREW. I HAVE KNOWN RYAN (OWNER) SINCE HE PURCHASED THE STORE, AND CANNOT SAY TOO MUCH ABOUT THE WAY HE IS RUNNING THIS BUSINESS. HE AND HIS STAFF ARE ABSOLUTELY GREAT. THEY ARE NICE, VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE, AND VERY HELPFUL. THE MERCHANDISE IS FIRST RATE, ALWAYS WORKS, AND WILL LAST FOREVER. THERE IS NO JUNK IN THE STORE. THOUGH THIS KIND OF QUALITY IS MORE EXPENSIVE, IT SURELY PAYS DIVIDENDS WHILE BIKING. THIS IS ONE ACTIVITY WHERE ONE SHOULD NOT SKIMP. LASTLY, THE REPAIR SHOP IS SECOND TO NONE. SERVICE IS GIVEN QUICKLY, EXPERTLY, AND AT A REASONABLE COST. AND, YOU ARE ALWAYS TOLD THE REPAIR COST BEFORE YOU AGREE TO IT. LOTS OF HONESTY HERE. WE ARE VERY LUCKY TO HAVE THIS BUSINESS HERE IN IOWA CITY.
Friendly staff, good selection of bikes, supportive of all cyclists of all abilities and bikes of all ages. Active in the local cycling community and involved in a lot of fun events. Check out their website for rides that organize.
Impressive selection on Bikes. I was looking at a Trek bike(s) and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I think all the people that work there ride!
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good selection of bikes and accessories.
Fantastic crew! I have been buying our bikes there for over 8 years. Great service, knowledgeable and easy to talk to.
SUPERIOR service and very professional customer relations. As a woman I appreciate the respect I receive as a cyclist. Doesnt always happen at bike shops!!
These guys are great. Mechanics are terrific all really nice people. Great quality, good prices!
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good selection, I test-rode the Trek hybrid series bikes. I ended up buying my bike at a neighboring used bike shop because that offered a better value, but actually came back to World of Bikes to get my helmet (I love the lime green lazer) and an abus U-lock.Only offers brand new items though, and were not as clear as I hoped they would be about sales and discounts (however, note that I visited in June - peak bike buying season).
Great service, knowledgeable staff! Buying a bike for my son as a freshman- very helpful on rules of the road and how to stay safe.
Very friendly employees and the store is clean
Greatpeople very knowledgeable good variety
Were very sorry when didnt have the right part . but it wasnt even their fault it was mine. very hard working group of people. defentally liked them recemend them
Everytime I walk in the door at WOB, I feel confident that the many familiar faces inside, will take a moment out of their busy work to smile and say hello, instantly making me comfortable to address my needs! As long as I can remember it has always been this way... even before they got to know me a little! I look at this as an example for someone new to town or someone who could be slightly nervous or reserved by having only a little knowledge &/or experience in biking & bike maintenence but has big desires to learn & ride!No doubt in my mind... they are in the warmest, most welcoming hands! Providing assistance to meet our needs on a individual basis every day!I would recommend this business to my mom and son and neighbors... And many more! Because as WOB knows... I can talk A LOT!Always fun to talk about those you believe in! And World of Bikes... I BELIEVE IN THEM!!! Now you go visit them so you can see I dont talk for nothin!!!
Great guys. This is THE place to buy a fatbike.
Excellent service, Ryan and his crew are personable and honest.
First off let me say Ive been using WOB for 2 years now and really enjoy going there so this year I had Jamie write me up a quote for a new Cyclocross build using a Trek Crockett frame and Sram Force 22 Drive components and she was awesome. The bike rips in the gravel. Well see how it holds up but Im sure WOB will stand behind it if I have any problems with it. Thanks World Of Bikes. Please KEEP UP the good work and you will always have me as a customer. Thanks,N Lucas (Kalona, IA)
Friendly staff and very helpful...they can fix any problem in your bike...they have huge variety of bikes...
