I used to love this place, but the service has completely gone downhill over the last several years. Most times I have dropped off items to consign Im treated as though Im an inconvenience. The last time, I asked how the employee was doing, she ignored me and looked super annoyed I was even there with my items. Ive called to ask the status of my stuff only to be cut off while I was still talking to be told they are behind. I totally get that, but you should not cut people off. I think they need to have some customer service training. If Mary is still at this franchise, she may need to consider looking into this. The place has potential, but they need to hire people who actually care about their customers. There is one girl who is wonderful there, but I dont know her name, and think shes newer. Never will be going back since these are only two of many incidents over the last several years. I cant be the only one experiencing this, but felt a review was necessary in case others are experiencing this too!

The stores are well kept, both in Coralville and Iowa City. There is plenty of merchandise at affordable prices. “Consignors” are happy to show up and drop their belongings to get some bucks. The model is working well, but requires improvement, more transparency on what items are deposited, their price, proceeds, etc. The hours are convenient, it seems like they open 7 days a week. Staff is diligent and helpful. The website is good; I checked it and learnt a few things that I didn’t know. IMO they have opportunities to improve communications with consignors, so that they don’t show up with stuff and be rejected because no Sunday or not today because tomorrow is halloween, or we ran out of totes, or on Sunday we only receive furniture, but what is the definition of furniture. It’s frustrating. I’m going to look at FB to see what it looks like.Again, the model needs improvement; take the case of last weekend: a long line of people waiting to drop merchandise in Coralville, then go to Iowa City to hear the excuse were not receiving consignments cause were running a special 50% off This was on Saturday, then again on Sunday, but this time someone wrote a big sign. This is easy to fix using social media, telling people in FB that this weekend u are not receiving consignments because... whatever the reason.

Fun finds to buy, but every time I want to consign items, the consigner lady leaves a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I dont know if the manager of the store needs to stop chewing her out, or if she hates mennonites, or if she simply needs a few years of customer service education, but something needs to change. Its pretty uncool to be treated like a crumb. Generally Id expect someone whos dealing with clients to go above and beyond to make the experience a great one.

Love Stuff! This and the Coralville locations are the ones I frequent most often. You can find lots of great items here, even designer clothes and purses! I have gotten Vera Bradley purses and Juicy Couture clothing here. Most of the things are reasonably priced. However, sometimes I see items out for sale and wonder how in the world they got past quality checks. I can’t rate the process of bringing things here to consign. I am excited to see them in their new location (the old Kmart), but I wonder what will be put in this space.

This Stuff Etc. is not quite as good as the Iowa City or Cedar Rapids locations. It was closer to my house, but I often would end up driving to Coralville to shop at the other location. The pros are that it has a ton of used clothing, shoes, cosmetics, and dishes for a very fair price. The cons are that this location prices some items far above a reasonable price for a used item, especially the furniture. I have actually noticed pretty much everything is priced higher at this location. Its still a good deal, but you can find the same quality of used items elsewhere for cheaper.

This is one of the largest most diverse thrift stores I have ever been to. I went on 50% off weekend and scored on a ton of things. I bought a Vera Wang purse for practically nothing. They have a whole wall of scarfs and even an area with large furniture. I can not wait to go back to this place and hunt for some new treasures.

Review №50

Its easy to consign things here, but you wont make a lot of your money back if thats your goal. They have everything under the sun for sale here, but too much clothing jammed onto racks. I wish they went over clothing for quality checks better. Great prices on most things though!

Ti
Review №51

Continuing where I left off on the review for the Cedar Rapids location, this location prices things entirely too high. I was told they use Amazon to look up prices. This might be ok for brand new items, but they do it for used items as well. The last time I was here, they had a Kate Spade magnifying glass brand new in the box, priced at $19.99, which retails for $39.99. You can buy these on eBay brand new for $22.99 with free shipping. These do not retail for $39.99. Stuff has seen less and less inventory since Ive moved to this area, due in part to the owner letting power and greed go to her head. She thinks letting the staff price things higher is going to make her richer. People arent going to pay new prices for used stuff. If they keep pricing things 2-3x as much as goodwill and other thrift stores, people will shop there. Its a no-brainer. They need to get prices back to realistic levels, their current pricing is short sighted and will lead to locations closing. Mark my words.

Many problems. Over the years, I have found 2 items not in notably poor condition to purchase or that were not less expensive if bought new.I recently tried consigning and one gal said the first load was too young; that their customers are older. We established apparently college students do not shop here. Then, I brought in young professionals clothing; less than 1 year old, appropriate for age 20-40. (Might I also add perfect condition and high quality brands from Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, etc). Then a different gal said that their customers are not young professionals, but rather, young college students. So, what do you sell? Youre not looking for good quality or brand, thats certainly been established, and if trendy college-age styles are too young yet young professionals styles are too old, what do you want? I read the checklist and followed it carefully, however, if your staff does not follow it, it is of no use. Please educate your sorting staff on high end brands. They were holding a retail $200 designer cardigan and say no because they had never heard of the brand.Lastly, and perhaps worst, they wad up what they dont want and shove it in a trash bag. We bring in our items folded and well cared for and I asked why they were not courteous enough to fold what they dont want and I was told, they probably didnt think it was worth folding. I walked away with a trash bag of wadded up designer clothes and will not be back.

I considered a reward, but then noticed all the cash was lifted. I spoke to the manager, not at all helpful. Review №60

Overall its a decently good place to sell your stuff. Its easy to drop things off, but it can sometimes take a very long time before your items actually make it out onto the sales floor and how intelligently your items get categorized and priced seems to depend a lot on whoevers on duty the day they do it. Clothing seems to be the one thing theyre especially picky about taking - they really want major brands and fairly new items.

You only receive 40% from your things, and less if sales happen. I hate you have to make appointments even for black bags, with all the help they could go thru it in 10 minutes, they want 24 hours, when you live an hour away that doesnt work! Then when you do make an appointment, they send half of it back with you in less than a half an hour!! Stuffs is an ok place but for a second hand store some of their merchandise is outrageously priced like $16 for a little wallet or $700.00 for a love seat. It is a great place to get rid of items but I wouldnt count on the money. You get 40% of the selling price which may not be much after store sales or discounts due to time on the shelf. Also the employees are not brand savvy. They priced a pair of $200 jeans at $9.99 while pricing a pair of $50 jeans at $24.99??? Made little sense to me but it is all just extra pocket change. The CR store is smaller but seems to keep more that you bring in & move product much faster than this IC location. I take that into account now.

I will never do business with them anymore. The customer service is abysmal. I didnt realize it was so difficult to do a job and follow through with what is said. I went to consign items for the first time, and the clerk who helped me seemed condescending since he had to create my account and told me to await a call to pick up the items they didnt want, but I never got a call. I did get an automated email about what items they took but still no call. I tried to pick up my items yesterday but they got donated. Ironically, I passed a bag in the store with a paper attached that said We dont donate items anymore to a request a customer had put on the bag to do so. Anyway, another clerk helped me and practically lectured me on the fact that they donate items after holding them for 24 (up to 48) hours, but when I tried to defend myself and say I was told to await a call, she just say OK. No apology. I used to work in customer service at Nordstrom so I know whats reasonable and what isnt. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else or just pay retail where the salespeople will actually treat you with respect. Stuff etc. has lost my brand trust and loyalty.

WAAAAY too expensive. Ive seen items being sold here for MORE than they sell brand-new, and things are often in rotten condition. The only time its worthwhile to buy something at Stuff is when its 80% off, otherwise youre throwing your money away. Also, my wife went to consign baby clothing there. She was told shed probably get about $120 for everything, and ended up getting $30. Of course I know that $120 wasnt a guarantee, but when they take all of your stuff and give you a fourth of what they estimated they could sell it for, that just doesnt seem right to me.And Ive overheard employees saying theyre going to hide items until theyll be 80% off so they can buy it.

Not a very wide selection of merchandise and what they do have is usually really beat up/old/out of style/etc. Their prices here for some reason are also ridiculous. For example, I found the same puzzle for toddlers at both locations in identical condition. The Coralville location charged $3. This location wanted $7. If I bought it new it would be $9. A full bag of Mega Blocks at the Coralville location was $6, the same bag was $12 here (it is $14 new). Not worth it. I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because the employees were pleasant and helpful.
