Great shop! Amazing build. Super great coffee product. Plenty of sitting space too. The barista was quick to help, but she was not very friendly. :/ Also sticker price is not listed and realized after I bought it that it was 2 dollars! 😳 Coffee isnt too expensive though, which is good. Overall a good visit and would happy to come back again. Sans sticker. ;)

The best coffee in Kalamazoo. Period. I rarely come across coffeehouses that exceed my stringent expectations, much less meet them. I am not a casual coffee drinker...I brew a pot the moment I wake up and drink a cup even if I am going to go out and get a cuppa outside of my house. Laugh if you must, but it is the truth. I have patronized Civil House five times in the last two weeks-its location is directly along the path I take to Bronson Methodist Hospital where my medical team roosts. I have already spent a few quality hours sitting at the counter of this establishment, drinking the excellent drip coffee and relaxing before multiple medical visits. The interior is bright and attractive. The manager behind the counter is friendly, extremely efficient, and brews a truly superior cup of coffee. The prices are (in my opinion) low for java of this quality. Once my lease on my apartment is up in the fall of 2021, my (secret) dream is to rent the space next to Civil so that I have this heavenly brew as my neighbor. Im hooked and very happy about it.

Super thankful that great coffee has come to lower Michigan! Mack & Megan are so great! Love the design and they carry Proud Marys coffee which is an all time favorite. Future visits planned!

Great coffee in a beautiful place. The big windows let in a lot of light so it’s a pleasure to work here on my laptop. There also are nice touches like a record player and records on one of the walls. The barista I met was really friendly. Recommended, a great place!

He trained in hospitality in Nashville and carries that expertise about Coffee with him as a barista and a manger.Civil House makes you feel like you are in the 1950s where everyone knew everyone and community is close connected. Mack remembers your name, will ask you questions about your life, and is really intentional about making you feel like this isnt just a coffee shop, its your place that you are welcome in.On top of that, the coffee is the best coffee I have ever had. Ever. No contest. They are passionate about how they make and brew their coffee, at every step of the process.Also, Civil House is a beautiful atmosphere. The big front windows are great for people watching and day dreaming. The exposed brick, live plants and bar seats make you feel so dreamy and at home.The fact that its attached to Rhino is just a plus, because there are always people working and chatting. Its so friendly!Everything about this place is a perfect representation of the heart of Kalamazoo and why people from this city love Kalamazoo SO much.

Kalamazoos newest coffee shop is quite welcome! Civil House has excellent beans from several roasters, friendly and talented baristas, a gorgeous space (high copper ceilings!), sunshine galore through the enormous windows, and useful seating (plugs everywhere, for those who like to work at coffeeshops). Free wifi, long hours (7am-7pm), and a lovely sense of community.

Cool latte art, but pretty expensive otherwise. $4 for a black coffee. for more variety, better hours, and a better atmosphere, would recommend water street.kind of the owner to comment, but even with variety mentioned, it does not hold a candle to everything water street does (and for less money, too).

My partner and I got a drink each, and they were both enjoyable. The drinks are good.The price, however, is kind of high. Twice as high some shops in the towns over. I would say that the drinks were of slightly higher quality, but not anywhere near twice as good.Im sure its a good business, and I was fond of the drinks. Its definitely not worth it to come here though given the prices of the other places I like.

Civil House provides downtown Kalamazoo with a true specialty coffee experience! Expertly extracted espresso, perfectly textured milk, and precisely brewed pour-overs make for a wonderful intersection of craft that is sure to impress. The space might be smaller on a busy day and parking might be difficult at times, but the Civil House experience is completely worth it. Next time youre in Kalamazoo, Id highly recommend stopping by!

My fiancé and I visited here last week and tried their pour over coffee.. it was so good we got second drinks! Their dirty chai and iced Americanos are to die for! I also tried their almond log, and paired perfectly with their pour over coffee!

Undoubtedly the most reliably delicious pour over in town thanks to considerate baristas and a carefully calibrated Poursteady machine. Civil House’s convenient location and extremely friendly staff are an oasis in a sea of mediocrity. I never regret giving them money or spending an afternoon in their shop. This place matters.

I’ll be back the next time I’m in Kalamazoo!

One of my favorite parts of travel is finding local coffee shops in each town. Civil House caught my eye as we were walking to another establishment for a quick breakfast. We were not disappointed with the change. The coffees were delicious and smooth and the toast...wow. We got the Found Nemo and it was incredible. The atmosphere is very open and airy and the service was great.

Lovely coffee shop with a decent variety of offerings. We had Golden milk (turmeric) lattes that were very nice. Really enjoyed the decor and comfy seats. Didnt hurt that there was a very cute baby there toddling around with a big grin on his face (no guarantees you will see this baby but no guarantees you wont either...)

I’m here several times a week for delicious drinks. Mostly their batch brew, but macadamia nut milk lattes as well. Gluten-free and vegan snack options as well. Great people, great vibe.

Five stars because it is so beautiful, has great coffee, and has plenty of staff during busy hours. I will saying dont go here looking for a deal, the coffee is EXPENSIVE!! Worth the money, but just be aware.Another note, they dont have almond or soy milk, they have oat milk and macadamia nut milk. Didnt try those yet.

The coffee was REALLY good and perfectly priced. I liked the inside as well - it was super easy to work there! Parking is a little annoying (downtown meter parking during the week), but its not their fault! It would be perfect on the weekend though when you dont have to pay for parking!!!

This place was really cute and fun! The coffee was great. However, I had to knock off a star because the barista forgot to make my drink and I had been waiting longer than 15 minutes. Unfortunately it ruined my first time experience but, I am willing to give it another try next time I make my way up there!

A great place just outside the heart of downtown Kalamazoo. The drinks are tasty. The windows face west and depending on the time of year it might be a warm glow or a baking sun!
