10/10 recommend. Loved the vibe. Korean sauce was stellar. I went with the dish of Katsu Chicken and it was delish a MUST. super friendly staff. There is limited resources with pandemic and travel please be kind.
Da Kitchen is now inside / shared space with Piko Cafe. Only use the dinner menu. Large portions! Worth the money! Katsu chicken was great. Generally katsu chicken is fried in same oil as fish and had a slight fish taste. Great news not here or at least not today. We had a great sample of Teriyaki chicken, Kalua pork and mixed plate. Everything was tasty with enough for lunch tomorrow.
This was on our list to visit but they are sharing a place with Piko, so only open at 4. We finally made it. No disappointment! Best lunch plate of ALL the islands for us so far! We got the mix plate. The mac salad is the best, the sauces were all good. Service was nice and informative. Highly recommend!
The food at Da Kitchen is delicious and a great value as you receive a lot of food for your money. I would highly recommend the Mixed Plate. The reason for not giving 5 stars is that the service was not great. We were treated rudely when trying to ask questions about the menu and the cashier was visibly growing impatient with us. Maybe she was just having a bad day but it felt as if we were inconveniencing her by ordering food at their restaurant.
We ordered one mixed plate and there was plenty of food for 2 people. The food was very good. We got there just before several people showed up so we got our food very quickly. Would definitely go back.
Ive been going to Da Kitchen when visiting Maui since 2001. I was sad to find out they closed their Kahalui location. The Kihei location is sharing a space with another restaurant and just has a dinner menu of their classic plates. I had the Loco Moco, as usual, and it didnt disappoint. I did pay for a side of gravy, because they dont put as much as they used to, but it was worth the extra $2. I hope they can continue to stay open!
We have eaten at DaKitchen many times over the years. Due to the pandemic, they moved locations and now only have a simple menu. Still big portions but the quality and flavor seems lacking.
Unfortunately they have no mention that Kalbi ribs is korean, and call the marinade ‘teriyaki’ on diners drive ins and dives. Disappointing they have attributed this as a japanese dish when it is KOREAN. Makes no sense.
The only reason I didnt give a 5 is I prefer Mac salad without potatoes and I needed soy sauce.
The place used to be a lot better but the quality has gone down, They will now have the food pre-cooked and will just heat it up for you and serve it to you for faster service but theyre lacking on quality and freshness. They are trying to focus on turnover instead of quality!I would have recommended this place before but right now its a hit or miss depending on what time you go and if theyll have fresh food for you, most times itll be reheated because theyre trying to save time :-(.They have a big selection of food maybe thats why the quality is gone down there too much on their plate to handle in such a small kitchen.again management needs to correct the mistakes of trying to be quick instead of quality!
The teriyaki chicken was great, katsus were really good. The mixed plate was a good way to get several different flavors. Not much seating due to covid, but we were lucky. The staff was very friendly!
I was not impressed with this place and found it to be way overpriced. They werent able or willing to do just egg whites for any of their egg options and husband asked for light cheese and well his cheese was the same amount as mine. The hash browns/fries with breakfast were well seasoned but seemed like they were the frozen kind that were fried up. Omelet lacked some seasoning but the vegetables were fresh and not overcooked. Had the luau pie, crust was perfect not too sweet but in general pie didnt have much flavor. Im thinking best time to eat is lunch and dinner instead of breakfast.
The original Da Kitchen by the airport is closed on Sundays, so we went to the Da Kitchen Express. It was okay. We had the Hawaiian plate. The pork and chicken was good, but needed more flavor. The mac salad was really good. I would suggest to go to a luau to try the local Hawaiian plate. The spam roll was good.
The tempura fish was the Da Bomb! The teriyaki was awesome too! Very, very good!
Da Kitchen is a Hawaiian restaurant is great for friends or family with plenty of seating around. The staff are friendly and quick to serve. They do not sell alcoholic beverages BUT! You are allowed to BYOB! [Nice!]. In our table of five, we ordered a lot of plate to share including:Unsweetened bottomless Iced TeaSpam MusubiKalbi Ribs (loved it so much we ordered a second order)Notorious B.I.G. Moco - various meats mixed with fried rice and vegetablesFried Noodles
Long wait after ordering. BBQ chicken was very dry. Staff was nice.
Got some great local eats before heading home!
Amazing. We were seafooded out and wanted some red meat so we made a quick stop here. No-frills spot with amazing Asian and Hawaiian soul food. Kalbi made right and pork katsu freshly fried with a crispy exterior and juicy center. Best to share a dish if you cant hold a doggy bag. Not a huge mac salad fan but I liked theirs the most out of my whole trip, not too much mayo with a good mustardy tang.
Good food and cute environment. Friendly staff and quick service. I would give it a five star but its sadly not my type of food. Thought I would try local island food but it was just all carbs and fats. Perhaps its what we ordered - masubi, shrimp shumai, teriyaki chicken/chicken katsu big bradda plate. Ok I realize that the order sounds bad! 🤣 I guess I didn’t see any healthier options ..? Good food but just not for me and my taste buds.
We were on our 4th day in Maui, and after partaking of so much local cuisine I decided on a place to pick up a comforting classic favorite - the humble cheeseburger. Most places add one of these to their menu just to have it without putting much thought into it, but not so at Da Kitchen! This burger was big, juicy, hand formed and provided with just the essentials for toppings. Not only was it served quickly, but it was done so by a very down to earth and friendly staff. The locals came for the traditional food more so than tourists which tells you something great about what they make - but they can definitely make some satisfying burgers too!
Excellent food . Awesome prices.
Restaurant serving modern Hawaiian plate lunches. The portions are very generous and you would be sure to leave full. Their famed spam musubi usually runs out by late afternoon, so you have to go early if you want some. Having said that, I dont think their spam musubis deserves all the hype, get their plate lunches instead.
Tried the loco moco for $16, bad choice, restroom break the whole day, prolly i ordered the wrong food. I will come back next time and try what other reviewers ate, for now three stars for the food taste. Nothing special. Wonder how Kihei cafe loco moco tastes like, i saw one guy this morning and theirs has more gravy than mine here. Take a look at my food here.
Great food and well priced
Great value for great food! We had the airport location and it was also great so decided to come here. We got the 3 bento and beef stew. Both were great! The service was also great. The part that was driving me crazy was that EVERYTHING is serviced in disposable containers. Yes there was a sign saying you can take home the container to use again but with the amount of tourists and by seeing the over flowing garbage of containers that isn’t what is going down. Can you please offer different options for dining in?
Looking for a cheap place to eat lunch and definitely want the bang for your buck? Go here! The portions were very generous and we ended up taking leftovers home (which was delicious as a late night snack). Go early because they will run out of some popular items on the menu, but you won’t be sorry with whatever you choose. Don’t expect fine dining, but do expect good food at a great price!
Great experience!I got the ribs and they were perfectly done with a good portion size which is nice because most of the things on the island dont feel like a value. My wife got the fish and chips which I tasted and were also amazing,i would probably get those next time. The staff was friendly and the food came out very quickly which I was surprised at for the quality it was, I expected a longer wait. Good job guys!
My wife and I came here after a trip up Haleakala. It was here we discovered and fell in love with the loco moco. And the deep fried musubi... hello! We were saddened to learn the Kahului location had since closed, but glad to hear there is another location on Maui. Next time we’re on Maui, we’ll be back!
I was so impressed with our recent visit here. Was served food fast—which was great because our family of 7 was starving. Employees were friendly and helpful. The food was awesome. I could argue they have the best Mac salad on the island. Loved the pork and chicken. Siblings loved the fish sandwich. Overall an awesome spot to try when you’re in Kihei
When youre ready to bypass a fancy island dinner and eat like a local, you cant beat Da Kitchen. The portion sizes are huge, easy for sharing. We ordered a few mixed plates, and the favorite entree was the Garlic Chicken. Parking is a little challenging here. Best Mac salad on the island. If you cant finish your enormous portions, ask for a take out box and consider sharing whats left of your dinner with someone less fortunate in the nearby beach parks. They even have Dole Whip for dessert!
A great casual place with a wide selection of Hawaiian staples, Asian classics, and American standbys, basically all the things I wanted to eat! There are plenty of places to get kalua pork, but this portion was really generous! My husband got the saimin and he liked the clean flavor. The real surprise star is the ube soft serve!!! Rich flavor but not too heavy. The constant flow of customers coming in at dinner time speaks for itself. Need more time to come back again!
A very good value. A great place to order and bring back to your hotel/condo. We got the chicken combo from the Specials Board and it fed both my wife and I. The kids meal was of similar size and fed my 6 year old twice (with a little help from me). If Cafe OLei is very busy I would just come here. The food is better!
Good flavor but tonights dish (the khalua pork) was way over salted. Wow! Way too much. Need quality control, man!The other dishes were great and good taste.Hawaiian plate is good way to try out multiple flavors. Each plate is maybe 2 peoples worth of food. Two plates and two drinks will run you $50. Yikes!Still worth a trip here.Open seating first come first serve after ordering.
Very, very good food and big portions! The prices are very reasonable and so much to choose from. I cant reccomend just one item, because everything I ordered was delicious!! Thanks for reading, Aloha!
The receptionist at our hotel recommended this and Im SO glad we went. It was some of the best food we had on Maui. Order at the counter and the food was brought to our table about 15 minutes later. The won tons as an appetizer were good but a very small order. For our meal, my husband and I shared a mixed plate with beef teriyaki and chicken katsu - SO delicious and we had enough left to take some home. LOVED it.
Huge shout out to Da kitchen! One of the few places open in Maui today and we had heard really good things about this place and decided to try it out and they did not disappoint! Food was amazing. We ordered the loco moco and the mixed plate both were excellent with huge portions and a very fair price! Would highly recommend this place to everyone. Until next time mahalo!
Food was great. Lovely atmosphere. Employees had great attitudes for working on Christmas Eve. Thanks so much.
Da Kitchen is Da bomb! Come here for some delicious Hawaiian grub made from simple ingredients. Our family love eating here. Aloha!
This location is a disappointment as compared to their west side Maui location. The food was sub par. The staff is more attentive to each other and their cell phones. They are not friendly or welcoming at all (No Aloha). I wouldnt recommend this spot even if I was dying of hunger. From the staff, to the food, to the presentation...it all blows. Cool shirts though...
Its been awhile since I ate here, but the one time i went, it had to be the best steak Ive ever had.I almost didnt order it, as the server said it was their last steak. But i went ahead and took a chance and Im sure glad i did.Im not sure if Ill ever have a better steak dinner than the one i got here.
Came here 3x on our Maui trip. Usually busy and for good reason. The food is so good. I could eat the 3 meat plate for every meal. Such good flavors. Try the fried spam musubi! Its definitely memorable. They had so many different items on the menu that I will have to try out next time! Good customer service as well.
SO....this has got to be my favorite place to eat on Maui. I love the local food and feel. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is trivial in a sense, but they charge you $2.00 to sub brown rice with white rice.
Unassuming location serving up the best in authentic Hawaiian-fusion cuisine. Walk up counter and can get busy but good makes it worth the wait. Had the Big Bruddah plate and both meats were delicious and flavorful. The Potato Mac salad complimented nicely and the white rice was cooked to perfection.
Really good food! But their food ratio is 2:1. Each item is good for 2-3 people. We ordered an item per person and wasted a lot of food because we had no idea how much food was being served.
Da Kitchen Kihei is amazing. They have great local food, good prices, and friendly service. The chili bowl and mahi mahi fish n chips are two of my favorites. I look forward to eating here again when Maui is opened back up. 🤙🤙🤙
Absolute BEST FOOD IN MAUI!!! Tops all the high end restaurants. this is the BEST food in Maui despite how cheap it is.
Great island food, comfortable and casual. Very nice, accommodating staff! Kent, Courtney, and Chelsea were great. (Skip their other location in Kahului, trust me!)
Ive only had kalbi ribs in Calif that my friends mom makes. So on my first trip to Hawaii I had to try some and this just happened to be the first recommendation. The ribs were delicious, just like her mom makes. The ends on a couple were burnt but that happens sometimes with grilling. The mac salad was good but nothing to write home about. Overall, it was a good meal and worth the money.
