Went by their drive through on a Saturday afternoon. Pretty decent line of cars, perhaps waited around 5-10 minutes to put our order in and get our custard, so not too bad. Employees had face coverings on (much appreciated!).I tried their soggy bottom, which is basically vanilla custard, with peanut butter sauce and crushed oreos at the bottom. Portions are big. Prices are very reasonable. There was plenty of peanut butter on there (maybe a little too much?) and not enough oreos :( but the flavors were good. They use the environmentally hazardous styrofoam type dishes which was really disappointing to see. Overall, a pretty average experience. In response to what the owner has posted:Thank you for taking the time to reply to my review. I really appreciate that. Its good IF the styrofoam is being recycled. But this is only if the customer makes the effort to dispose of the containers in a recycling bin. Styrofoam is a petroleum based product. Thus, its production and destruction (in landfills) is toxic to the environment. When exposed to certain levels of sun, it can burn releasing toxic chemicals into the air. Even hot liquids and foods can cause the partial breakdown of styrofoam, causing us to ingest harmful toxins. There are some wonderful new materials out on the market that do not exact a toll on the environment or humans in its production or in its disposal (whether they are recycled or not!).
Came here for lunch during Pokemon GO Fest 2021. The food was great, the custard was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was very laid back and relaxed while also being friendly and very after school vibes. An absolutely amazing establishment
Fantastic treat stop in the thick of a very family friendly part of town. Get some good burgers, tenderloins, and (most importantly) some good ice cream in plenty of classic varieties.
I’ve been trying to figure out which frozen custard place my dad would take me to as a kid. If my cousin and I were good before bed then we would both get ice cream, some nights because we would fight a lot, however we made it a lot bout who would get some blue moon the next day and it came down to who would be left sleeping upstairs by themselves. This is one memory I have of my dad and getting this exact blue moon the other day was just like being with him again 🍦💝✝️
My wife and i went thru the drive thru a few nights ago, and let me tell u! I have never felt so strong armed in my life! For $17.00, we got a plain vanilla waffle cone, in fact was all cone! Custard didnt even fill cone! Then the pound cake my wife had was hard an gross! Just felt like i got robbed is all!
Great afternoon snack. Hot fudge sundae was great.
I recommend their custard and their marshmallow coke. Great, fast service here too.
Freshly made frozen custard!! You cant help but to Love this place!! They make good food too. But its the custard that keeps me coming back!! 😋
So good. I wish they cheese curds. They have pup cups for the dogs.
They dont have food available on Sundays. But the fruit drink and customer service is always worth the waiting in long lines.
Food was horrible. Will never eat there again. Topping wrong and wilted. As well as being cold. It was deep fat fried food !
Was visiting Lafayette and read up to have to stop here in which we did. Glad we did because it Was Awesome!
Great custard! Nice old place.
Back home again in Lafayette -- and the Frozen Custard! Wonderful.
Honestly, I stopped in tired and didn’t want to look at the menu so I told them to get me the special of the day, turned out to be chicken nuggets and the best damn bacon bbq burger I’ve had in a long time!!! Of course the custard is delicious but the burger was so good I am past due I’m going back today!!!!!
Service was fast considering it was busy. Lots of shade to sit in. Alot of options but no kitchen on Sundays so if you want hot dogs or frys keep that in mind.
Cute ice cream joint. Yummy shake and custard ice cream.
We have, for the past 40 plus years, always enjoyed this stop. I remember lemon cones as a child- delightful. As we stayed with family not too far away and walked here, if we were good. It is still a wonderfully place to stop and indulge on all the wonderful and tasty treats. Still going strong.
Delicious! Loved my rocky road sundae! :)
This place is a staple to Lafayette...but recently, it’s been rough. Service has been mediocre at best. Every time I go (at least once a week), I feel like I’m a nuisance because I’m ordering more than 1 item. The kitchen seems to always be closed when we go. Even during the lunch and dinner hours. The other 2 locations, I feel, are much better.
Not bad. Good service.
Love love love this place. Its a must have during the summer.
Not as good as Budgies the people at frozen custard need to know how to really make Sundays
Always a great place for frozen treats and drinks. Food is good too.
The little blonde chick working the drive thru got my order wrong, then proceeded to yell at me about it after I told her I could pay for the difference but there should be two cones. I felt very uncomfortable. I will never go to this business again.
Good slushy and ice cream.
A visit home, means a visit to the ORIGINAL FROZEN CUSTARD, Twist cone and fruit drink! Must Have, Must Go, doesnt matter how long the line might be!!
Absolutely the best! Love the Banana Splits and DIET COKE!
Good food and drinks along with ice cream
We ordered an orange ice drink and a root beer float. The service was great and the employees were friendly, but I didnt like the taste of the custard or the drink. The orange drink tasted like cough syrup and the custard tasted malty and left a filmy aftertaste. Ive had custard before and wasnt expecting it to taste that way. Maybe I got a bad batch? I plan to go again to give it another try since everyone has been raving about their custard for as long as I can remember and they did have great, speedy, friendly service.
Just get a shaved ice down the block.
Frozen Custard here is amazing. Not like normal soft serve ice cream (however I believe they have that option too) Affordable and a good treat for the whole family.
Great custard and good service.
Great place to get soft serve right by the park
Its ok way to high on prices
Excellent place food is GREAT
Horrible service ice creams melted and wasnt even stacked on the cone right made it one block and threw it out the window because it was just too messy never go back again
Their fruit drink was incredible. The service was friendly and quick. It wasnt very busy though.
A local icon, this place serves uniquely flavored ice cream and treats. Most popular are their chocolate and vanilla twists, fountain sodas, and one-of-a-kind fruit drinks. Pricey, but conveniently located right next to Columbian Park and Arnis Pizza. Nice outdoor summer treat.
Dont really like the food..
Very good and a variety of flavors
This place is s hidden treasure. The custard is amazing and creamy, and the favors are rich and utterly wonderful.
Good very nice
Great vanilla cones.
Came here for food hoping the kitchen would be open. Its closed every Sunday so I figured coming on a Wednesday I would be alright. Nope. Guess the kitchen closes at 6PM everyday according to the new guy that barely knew how to take my order. Not sure if I will be back. Probably wont recommend this place to anyone else. They are lucky they are by a park or I doubt they would get much service.
OH YEAH MADE ME FEEL GOOD
Fruit drink otherwise, meh!
Great frozen custard!!!
My ice cream didnt taste like Vanilla thought, but netherless, it was good. I would go again :)
Great frozen custard recipe. I ordered a regular vanilla cone although there are several choices. Service was fast and friendly. Three big dips on cone for 3.50. Parking lot a mess and doing construction on side street. Difficult out unless going out on right turn. Can eat outside. Wish I could go often. Perfect flavor for custard and no ice. Ramp to order window as well as a drive up.
Optimist Club has their Christmas trees for sale on the lot right now. Til December 15
Could have been a 5 star rating but they say open until 8 and have been closed before 7 the last 3 times ive been there
Every year the portions get smaller and the prices go up. The teens that work here for minimum wage aren’t very polite either. I’m done with this place.
Love it and the staff that works there. It still taste the same as always and I cant wait to go back!!! Rate a big 5
Dumpy old place, high prices, rude service. Don’t understand the hype. Ordered a fruit drink and asked for custard in it and fully intended on paying extra for the custard. Was told NO! Made me order the fruit drink and the custard on the side in a separate dish. I told them I would gladly pay for a side dish of custard and was still refused. Idiots, rude! Culver’s is better, cheaper, and will gladly customize an item to my liking.
Our normal spot for a sweet frozen treat was closed so we decided to try this place. Our custard was already mostly melted be for we got it. Got our 2 year old a twist and no chocolate at all in it. Paid extra for a waffle cone. It looked like a waffle cone but it tasted like the normal sugar cone (paper and sugar) not impressed at all.
Very yummy frozen custard. I love all the different sundaes you coukd chose from. I had the Black and White. Vanilla custard with fudge sauce, peanuts and whip cream.
Great food and wonderful service. The custard is delicious. I just wish that they were open all year round
2 gummy worms in the dirt sunday. 2 more gummy worms for 1 more star
Just as good as I remember from yrs ago. And you still cant mix flavors! 😋🍦❤🍨😎
My son wanted pineapple sherbet but wasnt sure if he would like it. Asked for a sample and was denied, so he went with his normal vanilla waffle cone. No big deal. Custard was ok but had started to melt before it made it out the window
Custard tasted more like ice cream. Waffle cone was stale
I went an there the other day when it was 60 out an not a big crowd around at the time an the guys working asked for my last name .. Good thing practice makes perfect . when they get bizzy this season they will need the skills soon .. Thks for deing around my whole life an my sons .. Number one Indiana ice cream an frozen treats an hot eats give them a try you will not regret it
Both Google and their sign outside yesterday said that they were open until 10:00 p.m. and theyre open sign was on. However when I drove up through the drive-thru all the windows said they were closed. I was very disappointed and I dont know if Ill be back there again this summer.
A great place to end a fun day at the park.
My son and I shared a really tasty waffle cone. However, the custard was melting really quickly and I couldnt find any napkins. Also, the patio could use a really good cleaning.
Very nostalgic and great ice cream. Many flavors and types of ice cream and food. Great for families!
Prices were good. Staff was nice and helpful. But nothing real special or unique about the custard.
Across from the zoo. Tried the cookie custard and was great. No 🍪 pieces but flavor right on
My friend has raved about this place for years. As a devout ice-cream-lover, I have my own favorite (Shermans in South Haven, MI) and dismissed his ravings as those of an ill-informed lunatic Hoosier. With this in mind, I nevertheless decided that I should visit and see for myself. I am forced to admit that, as custard goes, it is top-notch. Most custard is fairly dense- this is lighter, smoother, more delicate, with rich flavor. Its a definite step-up from most custards Ive tried. And while it will never replace ice-cream IMHO, for custard, it is definitely the cream (and eggs) of the crop.
Always delicious ice cream at a good price. Popular for good reason. Excellent place to take kids after visit to park / zoo.
I enjoy the old fashion sodas. Good location. Decent prices. Always friendly service.
Wowzers! This is a place I remember my mom bringing my when I was a youngster. Going to Columbia Zoo and the frozen custard afterwards. My daughter and son-in-law were married so I thought what a way to celebrate with the newlyweds and the rest of the family. Of course when we arrived my mother insisted on paying. Nothing ordered over a medium and man the portion sizes are large!! Seven folks and the cost was less than a Jackson.
LOVE the Fruit Drink! Im not a big ice cream/custard fan...so I cant comment on the frozen confections, however I sometimes drive 15 miles out of my way for a FRUIT DRINK!!! In recent years, the outside tables & deck area appear to be more dirty/sticky during the day, than in the past??? Maybe they need to hose the area down every morning?
One of the best hidden gems in Lafayette during the summer. A fun place to visit for a treat (burgers, sundaes, cones, etc.) to beat the heat. Its seasonal, so dont miss it!
Love the frozen custard dont get there often enough
Always a fav..cheese fries and cherry coke are the best
A staple of Lafayette, IN summers - this shop is right next to Columbia Park and offers custards as well as many flavored cold sodas!
They were out of M&ms but you Cant go wrong with ice cream
Not very good. Service can be lacking and even rude at times. Prices high for what you get. Better than Dairy Queen but not nearly as good as Culver’s and much more expensive.
Im a native of Lafayette, born and bred there. Ive had frozen custard from this place all my life. I went today for the first time this year, since I live in Indy. I was SO disappointed in the regular chocolate cone I got. It was not the creamy frozen custard from all other times Ive been. It tasted like frozen yogurt, and not very good. It was more gelatin texture than creamy. They must have changed the recipe. If so, why?!
Very nice employees.
My family and I went to the zoo/park across the street. On our way home which is an hour drive, we decided to stop for lunch and some custard. We were all very happy with the smiling faces and service we got and with a pretty large order. There was not a single complaint from the family. My wife had the breaded chicken sanwich, my daugters had hot dogs, my oldest and youngest sons had the chicken chips, my mom and I had burgers. Hers a single mine the double all the way. We all enjoyed the food very much and my family loved their custard while I enjoyed my frozen coke. We will return.
We went Friday night, they have hot weather advisory signs up. We ordered 3 reverse cookies and cream kiddie cones and a small one, as soon as she handed the small cone into my hand the top was so melted it fell onto my other hand. At that point It just all fell on the ground.I don’t think the warm weather has anything to do with the freezers not probably keeping the ice cream cold. This is the 3rd time we have come and got soupy ice cream.
Local custard shop selling custard and shakes
Love the Fruit Drink, but it’s was really warm even with ice in it if that makes sense. Okay service and a bit over priced, but I still visit from time to time when I take my children to Columbian Park.
The custard is great and reasonably priced, but I cannot seem to make it there for food when the kitchen is open. It seems to have odd hours.
Love this place but the process are a little high.
So yummy, blue moon custard
Its 7:55 pm and the place is closed down and dark. 3 cars have pulled in behind me and left once they noticed the same. Hours are posted until 8pm.
Good place to chill on hot day and columbian park is across the st perfect combination ice cream and go look at animals
Stopped in for a quick drink, chocolate cokes are very good.
