So this was my first time going to shop for lumber in a real lumber store instead of a big box home center. I had done my research, educated myself on buying lumber by the foot, and brought my favorite tape measure. I was a little nervous. Happily, I can say it was a great experience. Everything at Owl is so organized that its a snap to find what you need. What a selection!!! And the quality is outstanding. And the prices are so much better when you buy by the foot. You get exactly what you need. If I had a question, there were plenty of staff on hand and they were very welcoming. Check out is quick and easy too as every peice is chalk labeled. The location is also easy to find and not far from 355 or North Avenue.Make no mistake, this is a serious woodworkers paradise. There is nothing fru fru. Its just isle after isle of boards and slabs waiting for your creativity to shape it into whatever your imagination can come up with. They also have plywood! And if your looking for something exotic or something massive, they have that too. Come check them out. I think you will not be disappointed.

Theyve got a lot of wood. Purple wood, zebra wood, African wood, big wood, small wood. Smells good. Bought some wood.

I really appreciate this place. Only complaint is that they are usually short staffed on Saturday. Its the only day I can get there.

Super helpful and friendly staff. Needed to replace a few slats on an old wine press, brought one slat in to see if they could identify the species of wood. They analyzed it and found a perfect match!

This place is awesome! They’ve saved me twice matching obscure moldings/baseboards in my old home that big box stores do not carry. Their employees are so knowledgeable that each trip here lasted about 3 minutes. I showed them what I needed and they brought me to it immediately. Great place!

Was just browsing to learn what is there and what future costs might be for woodworking projects. First time visit. Some very helpful staff answered most of our questions. Pricing is sometimes not readily available or obvious which made browsing less helpful than hoped.Do plan to return in the future for some project or another but still plan to shop big box stores for common items.

Used to think this was a great place. Will no longer spend my money here.

Good service and great selection of a variety of hard woods. Dimensional lumber, some live edge. Ply in most of the woods they carry. Trim and base boards. Cutting services. Ok selection of stains. No tools, sanding, etc.

Had my first experience at Owl today and I could not be happier. Trying to do projects around the house and for other people is great, but sometimes lumber can be tricky to transport, especially in a small SUV. I went into Owl with a drawing of what I was working on and the associate listened to my ideas and made sure we were both on the same page. They then took my plywood sheet, and cut it down to all the sizes I had asked for in about 10 minutes. I am beyond happy and their service saved me tons of time!

WOW I am so happy I went to Owl instead of one of the big box stores!Customer service was bar-none!Zack sifted tons of planks looking with me to cherry pick the best of the best for my project and after we did that I realized that I was going to blow my budget (on Red Oak). Then he did it all over again with a cheaper wood (Poplar) and stayed late to make sure I got the exact pieces I needed, the glue I needed, the right stain I wanted, the top coat, and then helped my load it all into my tiny car. I couldnt imagine shopping anywhere else for my wood needs.Thank you Owl Hardwood Lumber!Update: Owl came through a second time! I decided that I would really prefer to go with the red oak and they were great about taking back my previous purchase which was all uncut and undamaged.I know im probably a huge pain of a customer but they worked with me to get everything right.

It had what I needed more or less, dont waste time with Lowes or home Depot for wood stuff. Although I did ask if they had a particular size and they said they have a cutting service, they werent clear they didnt have the size I wanted. To say the least it was interesting getting 30 x 60 birch into my little car, I had a hoot.

Dont know where to start. I will start with the good. Great selection of species, quality is nice too. Well now the bad. I have been buying hardwood lumber for furniture, boxes, picture frame and many other items for nearly 30 years as I am a hobbyist woodworker. The issue with this place is fairly common in the industry. They sell you 4/4 that should be 1 thick but here as in many other places it is 13/16. You say So? What is the big deal about getting 3/16 less? Well, when you have a board that has any twist, cup or bow in it which essentially all lumber of any length has, you cant get a 3/4 thick board out of it because 13/16 is only a mere 1/16 more than 3/4 and you are left with too little to mill. So this may not apply to you but if you are a woodworker, own a jointer and a planer, there is absolutely no reason to purchase anything from this place. If you are looking for S2S lumber that you have to by 5/4 boards to get 3/4 then you are at the right place. Otherwise, find a local mill or even as expensive as my local Woodcraft is, they at least sell me 4/4 that is 4/4 but not quite as nice as S2S which I dont need.To be fair, this pay for 4/4 and get 13/16 is not limited to this place (any big box is the same way). I just expect more from a hardwood dealer.

Good place. good inventory. good people.wanted some small planks cut for a personal project (a handmade leatherbound journal) the guy in back who handles all the custom cuts came out and talked with me about the project and got me exactly what I needed. dont expect lightning fast service, but do expect quality service and product, and real, good people.

I love Owl Hardwood, they have such a variety of wood, every type you would need. Theyre very helpful, even to the point of planing and sanding a glue-up that I did for an awesome trestle table I made.
