I used to be afraid of getting mugged in the parking lot back when they were TopValu. Now that theyve rebranded to Northgate, the selections inside are much better, and Im still afraid of getting mugged in the parking lot. Some things never change.

Havent been here in a while, but I wanted to get some oxtails without leaving long Beach. Got there as soon as it opened, less traffic in the early morning. Found everything I needed and still browse into different aisles just to see what I could find. Prices were great, it was super clean and workers were very attentive. Love this place so much stuff especially the bakery.

Most people who shop here are locals, they live within walking distance. Your typical supermarket, with a focus on Hispanic/Mexican products. I love all their fresh made food in house. Such as their breads, ceviche and soups. You can nearly get all the same groceries as you would your local American Supermarket. It might be slighter higher but thats the price you pay for its locality.My only complaint is their checkout lines. During peak hours, you might have to wait 15/20mins in order to check out. And thats absolutely ridiculous. During these peak times, theres only two check out registers open. When I see about another 6/7 employees working. They should really cross-train these associates to relive the lines during these times. The last time I was there, the line backed up to the end of the store. The end of the store! There was about 30 customers waiting in two lines. I was waiting for about 20mins in order to check out.As much as I love their products and food, having to wait 20 or more minutes in order to check out is absolutely unacceptable. 9 out of 10 times, I would rather drive the extra 2/3mins to a different market and save me 15mins. Please find a solution soon to this ongoing problem. Itll turn away so many customers.

Store staff are generally not friendly. Prices are above average. Produce quickly rots when taken home, if they even have what you want.Security guards for the parking lot are predatory. They constantly tow cars. Be careful you dont take too long shopping... No joke.

The Best Cajeta the Las Chivas Ever..

Its not bad of a market. Very similar to a Vallarta. I only needed a few things. When I got there the two lines were long. By the time I was ready to check out, I waited less than 10 minutes to check out. If Im in the area again, I would go back.

Its ok... I was helping a friend shop there, but I myself avoid these stores, as I find them a bit higher in price for things I want & not that many of them, as their frozen section doesnt have much in the way of American foods.

The Northgate markets are great. Large variety of Mexican foods unable to get other places. Their shrimp cocktails are my favorite. Lots of whole shrimp, great traditional Mexican sauce with cucumber and avacado. Excellent value.

This is one of the better Gonzalez Markets Ive been to. We mainly go to Gonzalez for produce, and this location has a nice clean grocery section, but it also has the standard bakery and taco stand I love from Gonzalez as well. The store is not huge either, its just the right size.

Very clean place with nice and friendly staff. Manager Henry is always friendly and very helpful if you need anything. The whole place feels domestic and makes you feel like you know everyone.

Great Hispanic market. Lots of produce and really good fresh baked breads. Fresh salsas are good and they usually have really good prices on meats

I bought two whole chicken s and they were uder cook

I went to go cash a check, there where about 8 people ahead of me waiting in line with only one cashier available. It took about 30mins for me to cash my check. Apparently they also do other services other than cash checks. Anyway, there where 9 people including myself in line with only one cashier and it took 30mins for it to be my turn. It was really frustrating to be in line for so long to cash a simple check. I was told by other customers that most of the time they only have one cashier and usually have to wait in line 10-20 mins to be help. Poor service

Its fast and convenient if you go before and after rush hour. Took no more than 5 minutes in and out on the express lane.

I made it just past the swinging saloon doors at the entrance when I found 3 dozen freshly-made (warm) corn tortillas for an amazingly low price. I expanded my budget to buy cev[b]iche de pescado, spicy palta sauce, ancho chile sauce, and had to head to the checkout knowing that next time Id be back with more ways to bring stuff home

This site has had many different markets occupy its space for over 30yrs.Currently they have been catering to a largely Latino customer base, but also others wander in and partake of their ample butcher and hot food deli. There is an on site check cashing and money order establishment. I heres a bakery with a large in store made stock or cakes, breads and pastries. A good stock of wines and liquor and cold beer. Even pottery, flowers, liquados, and blankets and some appliances and glasses also. There are some beautiful religious statues as well.

North gate market is a really good grocerie store and I love it

Homemade bakery how many down all that female food A lot of you employees dont speak English so for us that do not I mean they do not speak Spanish it can be trying dont expect to get out really fast quick but its a great place its nice people that work here its just an old sort it needs to be renovated and Im really designed prices are no more competitive than anybody else in some areas theyre higher like their meat and dairy products I go there if its an emergency

I really wish ya’ll were strict about the 10 items or less line or at least don’t have an express lane in your store if you’re not even going to enforce the rule

Walking distance, always a special, seems to be the market I started out just getting fish,. Every month Im there walking, I am a disabled veteran and I sat my little fold up 2 wheels no problem. Leaving on the counter by the doors,! Tonight I carried 3 full bags plus the tote groceries medium size. Goes to show you, dont mind Northgate is so nice, very helpful most of all the are always PLEASANT.

Great place to find hard to find items.The lines to pay are a bit to long, its a long journey so be prepared to spend 10 to 15 minutes to pay. But, believe me you will find everything here.... Its worth the time..

Always a great grocery experience with authentic Latin American food. The hot bar and tamales are always tasty, and they have the 2 liter bottles of jarritos right there in the aisles! I go here with my wife at least once a week

Its not as bad as it looks but the humans of long Beach can be a bit much

They offer a lot of Hispanic food which is fine but the labeling is usually in Spanish and can be difficult to understand what the product is without a photo on the can or it written on the label on the meat even. Sometimes its written in English but sometimes its only in Spanish. Northgate Market is very busy and not a place you go into in the afternoon if youre in a hurry. It does offer a lot of products though. Most of that high-end products are locked up and you have to find someone with a key to open them which can be a wait. The checkout personnel or cashiers are very polite. If I was buying for a large family this would be the store I would probably go to. being a senior and only buying for two people it is not practical with the larger amount of product and a package.
