I love this supermarket! Im an island girl and they always have what I need for my recipes! The staff are very helpful!

I am not a frequent customer here, but I did have a pleasant shopping experience. I only went in to pick up some Lima beans and noticed the variety they had. I also found a brand that is new to me: Jack Rabbit. I ended up getting many bags of beans to store some up for the soups and meatless meals I plan to prepare in the colder months. An added bonus was that this new-to-me brand is also non gmo, which is a BONUS in my book. Having non GMO foods mean so much to me. I do plan to to return to stock up on my beans and lentils. The reason for the 4 stars is that I did notice that some of their prices for other things were a bit inflated. Other than that, no complaints here. Thanks Extra Supermarket!!!!!😁

Quality of the food is extremely low. They only carry the worst quality can think of.

Is a nice place to shop for food mostly for Caribbean food

If you are a wic customer go there if you want to be embarrassed. They never update their system and always tell you, you can not get this or that because it is not in the system for wic. Even though you book or the paper they give you says you can have it. Its very embarrassing.

They are horrible. The two African cashier women had a nasty attitude and kept yelling get out the store! We wanna go home! My bags were not doubled and I would be walking home with bags of groceries. I started to double my bags and one of the women said you cant use two bags. We dont do that here. And rolled her eyes. My first time visiting here after moving into the neighborhood. Thank goodness for instacart, amazon prime, whole foods and shop rite. I never have to come here again and subject myself to this mistreatment.

The service is somewhat okay but the meat quality isnt that good sometimes.

What ever you needed is available at affordable price and no cap to the limit of what you can buy when they have an item on sale which made big stores go under wirh thier conditional of for example $7:50 purchase before you can buy one sales item. If Extra have sales ni cap at all.

If u are into exotic starches like various types of potatoes n yams n island foods this is the spot for u. Caribbean n African foods also reasonable priced meats n chicken. Just be mindful of who u ask for help may or may not know the inventory well enough to point u in the right direction. Those that speak English in the store are very helpful.

The Extra Supermarket on Avon Ave (Newark NJ) inside the little mall off Irvine Turner Blvd is wonderful.The Extra Supermarket in Irvington(NJ)isnt as good with their meats but have better sales than the one on Avon Avenue in Newark

Long standing Caribbean and Hispanic staple of the community. Fresh ethnic produce. The customer service is hit or miss and it stems down from rude management. The manager rudely walked in front of us as we were entering the store, didnt excuse himself or anything. I have seen birds in the store, and they also forcibly make you get their questionable store brand with WIC. I dont frequent the store for these multitude of reasons; only when I need a few items for ethnic dishes. Id rather travel and spend my money elsewhere on a regular basis.

Need improvement

There are live birds in this store all the time. What is with that? Some of the cashiers are great, but some are absolutely horrible people. If you have other options, avoid this store.

Very good establishment. Cashier stations are well staffed but the guy currently at the seafood section is the worst. Hell leave your order to attend to ladies probably hoping to get a date.

If you are looking for a supermarket that carries a wide variety of food and household products, at affordable prices then this is a supermarket to shop. They carry a wide range of Caribbean and Island products that you wouldnt necessarily find at other supermarkets.

Not one of my favorite stores. Its very tight and compact. Im the type of person that needs space and I dont want to walk down aisles saying Im sorry or excuse me a million times.Seems to always be stocked the few times I have been.Not a long wait to check out however since I been last they changed the register setup. It feels like your standing in a hallway with chocolates and snacks all around you as you check out. Thats the best I could describe it lol. Not liking tight spots that made me nervous but I made it! For me this place is good to pick up little things so Im in and out.

The employees can be rude. I brought chicken for the next day, it was already rotten. Which tells me that the food isnt fresh. When I saw the receipt it indicated 24 returns. So I lost my money, produce staff have no knowledge on where the produce comes from nor how long it been sitting in the store. A lot of process food and plenty of chemical in them and the prices are very high on the good brands. Be careful when checking out they dont change prices in POS, if something is on sale, you may pay reg. Price . Good If youre going to eat your grocery on the day you get it home.

It was fair. A good Carribbean supermarket. Their butter bread is really good.

It has free parking lots and you can get Caribbean, Hispanic and other natural food items. I like shopping there easy and convenient especially during the week.

Extra is the best supermarket in New Jersey, its so reasonable clean have a restroom thats a plus, things u easy to find, the produces..are fresh u can have a little money and come out with a lot of groceries...

I was very disappointed with the meats the freezer is not cold enough in the meat smell rotten. I bought a pack of chicken legs and thighs and when I got them home it smells rotten

They have a lot of spanish and caribbean products. Will specially cut meats and package for you. They have amazing weekly sales. Be cautious of food that has been sitting out for a while
