I had ordered a music book was told it would take awhile to get the music book, as they had sold out, that I would receive a phone call when it arrived they did indeed call me when music book arrived.Though all staff was busy, I was greeted, the young lady stated l have customer, I will assist you next. Thought l would walk look around store, I heard guitar music playing I observed this young man playing, he stated you must be Rose 🌹 he said I have something for you.I paid for music book, I asked to have book In bag. The young lady assisted me with door as l am on a walker. I was delighted with service I would definitely shop there in future and highly recommend Gottschalk music store Merced CA store to others.

Not a friendly place. Rude Staff. Had to go there to rent an instrument for my grandson. A couple of Staff members were not welcoming and they were not nice. They didnt have everything we needed, and they werent concerned about it. Not a good experience. Not recommending the place. I will try the other music store in town.

Great place to get your childs School instrument or a professional instrument. And the lessons that are given are great too. My son and my grandson love drum lessons by Mike.

Gottschalk music center is a great shop in downtown Merced. Elliot dialed in two guitars for me and she did a great job dialing in my parts caster (new nut, leveling and polishing frets) as well as intonation. I highly recommend them for their service and knowledge. Prices are great and they even gave me a little price break on some extra gear. They will get future business for sure.

Jay is the best worker in the Merced location, she deserves a raise. She is a dedicated musician and highly knowledge in almost every aspect. I went in to buy a piano and was surprised by her knowledge on the sounds of each piano and what would best suit my preference. She also gave me A TON of advice about drum sets as to what different companies produce and how different materials affect the sound. Best worker there hands down!!

I went in to rent a cello and came out so excited! They allowed me to try it out at the store and answered all of my questions & were amazing and friendly!I also requested a print out of a piece of music, and he searched until it was found, as well as played it just for clarification.I have purchased from the store before, and they’ve always been extremely helpful and kind!I walked out with a beautiful cello to try for a month to month basis & am very pleased with how I am treated each time.Thank you Gottschalk’s music!

I was originally going to just check their store hours. I saw they were open so I went in and I was greeted right away. I dont know much about instruments, but knew what my brother needed. Good selection on bass strings very helpful employees very friendly atmosphere

This a two part review. The first part is about the Merced store. My purpose in visiting the store was to get my flute overhauled. The store was nice. Staff were helpful and competent. My flute was sent to the Gottschalk store in Clovis where they do their repair work. I arranged to have my flute shipped back, since it would save me a three hour drive. I give the Merced store 4+ stars as they did everything right.As to the repair work, not so happy. For one, I was without my flute for over five weeks. When I received my flute it looked beautiful, but there was a major problem. One of the keys stuck and it would not loosen up. Secondly, the G note was harder to play than I remembered (in all three octaves). Overall the pitch of my instrument was a little on the sharp side. I would rate the repair shop with 2 stars. Five weeks and an incomplete overhaul! I wonder if they even played the flute before sending it back to the Merced store. Granted, all the parts were redone and the body looked like new, but…I had no desire to drive to Merced, so I visited my local shop and the owner sent my flute to a retired guy who repairs instruments. Two days later, my flute was done. All the issues were corrected and my flute played perfectly. I would have used the local guy to begin with, but the job was too big for him.

Gottschalks Music has a very knowledgeable and friendly staff that made choosing and purchasing a new guitar and amplifier for my daughter, a pleasurable and easy experience. My daughter and I are very satisfied and happy with our purchases. Thank you again.

The items there are largely geared towards guitar players but they also have a noteworthy selection of audio equipment, percussion, keyboards, as well as a few wind instruments. If you want something from them that isnt in currently in stock they will gladly order something or check their sister location in Clovis and have the item(s) shipped to the Merced location.Customer service is phenomenal! The people there are knowledgeable and kind and helpful 24/7 and they help make you feel like family!

This shop seems more suited towards young band geeks, and theres literally nothing wrong with that. I was a band geek, too. Im a middle aged man that likes playing loud metal guitar on cool looking guitars. Theyre great for common supplies and beginner instruments and amps. Very friendly and helpful staffas well. I didnt inquire while I was there recently, but years back, they had an in house instrument tech that could modify/repair your gear.Bottom line: perfect music shop for Merced, focusing on encouraging young, new musicians. For me, its a place to get picks and cables.

We were in need of a keyboard with weighted keys for my daughter who started piano lessons with a private instructor. The staff at Gottschalk took the time to explain my options, what they offered and how our needs might evolve if she stuck with her lessons and developed mastery of the instrument. It was a great place to be in. I had a slide form my trumpet fixed but they left the smallest bump on it which you wouldnt know about unless you were looking.

Shaun McDonald is a charlatan of a guitar teacher, he teaches at Gottschalks. The other instructors are great and the business is fantastic, but taking advantage of a 78 year old man, having him pay for lessons, but wasting the mans time and apparently talking about nothing but soccer, enough that Mr. McDonald is now a self-proclaimed expert on the game. I do not condone ANYONE taking advantage of our elders, I certainly would not recommend him for any lesson, on any subject.I have proof of Mr. Mcdonald admitting to wasting this old mans time. Do yourself and go with a different teacher. Gottschalks is an excellent store, but I dont think they are aware of what Mr. McDonald is doing with one of our elders, who should be respected, not ripped off. I thought Mr. McDonald was a good guy, and he is a learned guitar player, that is true, but I am sick to my stomach, and have been ever since Mr. McDonald told me what he does. What a shame. After 1 day of investigating former students of his (who wish to remain anonymous), I found 4 former students who took lessons from Mr. McDonald and can now not play at all, on top of that, all 4 complained of him getting easily off of track and not teaching them anything. How on earth is he getting away with this? What will happen when I look for more former students? I love Gottschalks and all of its employees and their prices and customer service, but go on YouTube for lessons before you take a lesson from Mr. McDonald.

I want to spend the most on my guitar give me a cheap nut for five bucks. I wanted brass all right ivory!! They charged me $90 bucks... For a $5 piece plastic from China.. I have to replace a whole neck.. son spent $2,000 an american-made Jaguar Bass.. they change the bass pickups does my bass pickups are no more fender. Do not take return for repair cuz they still everything!!! My bass guitar is good for the garbage!!!!!?

The selection of instruments is lacking, but they do have enough to show off. My main concern lies with the employees, they make you feel very unwelcomed here. If you are just browing a certain section, they will basically tell you to buy something or get out. Then if theyre not harassing a customer, when you go up and try to get help they will flee to the back room and ignore you making you wait for hours.
