Great selection, pricing is insane. $12/lb of butter? Whoa. Why put a grocery store in the tourist district? Maybe the overhead is too high. Apples were fantastic and well priced.

Perhaps what makes this place so good, like many other coo-ops, it that it is owned by the people who work there. A very friendly and helpful bunch, great local fare, and reasonable prices for the quality of goods.

Discriminatory and close minded. Their everyone welcome slogan is very ironic. Because of my medical condition that makes it impossible for me to wear a mask I was talked down to, asked to leave, no one had anything helpful to say so im trying to get through to the people I need to talk to on my own. I tried the other options offered but they are ineffective and does not provide equal service. Very rude and not understanding.

Hunger Mountain Co-op is a magical place where shopping isnt a chore but an experience! They display the bounties of the world and our local creators in a beautiful exposed beam building.. First class, deli, well rounded stock of foods, bulks, toiletries, household supplies, deli and health items. Staff is always helpful and courteous, One stop and itll be your favorite place to shop.

Ive been coming here with my parents since I was a small child. well find things here that you simply just will not find in most other grocery stores. They do a really nice job merchandising all their product. They have very extensive cheese case with a mix of Vermont, domestic, and foreign cheeses. The produce is also always great here. You can get all sorts of different types of teas, natural remedies, and bulk foods. Its very hippie Vermont, but thats what makes this place special.

I really want to like this place because the selection is great, but every time I go, the customer service is abysmal. Every staff member Ive interacted with here has treated me like an inconvenience. Theres no sense of community here, just a coldness that makes each visit unpleasant. My membership here doesnt seem to matter to them, so why should it matter to me? Ill be shopping elsewhere.

Review №17

Great selection, good prices, very clean, awesome that they are supporting mostly local and organic products. Clean parking lot and stocked shelves. As a co-op grocery store, a fantastic place. However, Im genuinely disappointed that a store with these kinds of standards and regard for quality and health would still have a mandatory mask policy and customer limits, despite it no longer being enforced by the State of Vermont. It was somewhat excuseable to have the policy in place (under duress) during the period of lockdowns and restrictions. But to continue to enforce them now (until July 5th) goes against everything this store seems to stand for. One would assume that a business focused on healthy food and lifestyle choices would be the first to celebrate the end of asinine restrictions. Most other businesses in Montpelier have optional or encouraged mask policies and no reduced limits on occupancy. From what I read, the store hasnt recognized medical or religious mask exemptions either. So much for inclusivity and tolerance. It really cancels out all the pros to see a business such as this voluntarily resort to continue enforcing mask policies.

I love the lady who took care of me at the sandwich station. I didnt know they made coffee and she was so jolly to help me while I was curiously reading the menu.Overall theres nothing I can add to all other reviews such as great selection. I hope in the future they bring in some more international South American products. I also wonder how come other coops at NYC kept their prices lower than in Vermont. Anyways, Im a proud member and look forward to the time they bring mate and bombillas back so I can get some :PDeli hours:Hot sandwiches until 6:45pm and cold sandwiches until 7pm.Burgers are AMAZING, Sandwiches are too! I prefer the hot ones but it’s always really hard to choose bc they are all good. The tempeh sandwich bread is a bit hard for my preference.Beware are great but they take time to make so I have found it hard to order for lunch anymore. Maybe with good weather you can sit and eat it outside instead of carry your sandwich back to your work place.

A great store for Montpelier. Better than the alternative in most ways. If you have ever shopped at or worked at just about any other co-op on earth, you have a pretty good idea about this one. Same smells, surly customers, aloof staff and yummy yummy but marked up 4% products that you will find at your local co-op, be it Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Flatbush, Billings, Greensboro, Morrisville, Hardwick, etc. etc. etc.

On vacation from Ohio, we stopped in to see what a co-op is all about. They had a very large selection of local products and locally made foods. Everything on the shelves and behind the counter just looked as though it was made fresh just minutes ago. The bakery items alone that we tried got us talking about coming back in the fall. If you are in the area, stop in! I almost guarantee youll walk out with something new and exciting to try!

Good quality foods. The hot and cold bar have improved. I think they should find a new soup supplier. Same old soups not so great. I find the pricing really high. Its the most expensive place in town to buy a coffee. Strange considering a co-op is there to benefit its members. One theory is that the co-op is prioritizing its employees over member benefits.....not sure of that but could be.

There is an aura around the coop. Once you enter it, you will likely become slower... you may leave your cart in the middle of the aisle and just meander around lost in contentment. There are a few however who stay unaffected by the aura. They will likely move your cart and roll their eyes at you when you unknowingly walk in front of them only to stop and stare at something. Just breath... all is transient... they will find another way...

The Co-op is a great place to find organic, bulk, and local products as you would expect, but in Vermont that means award winning cheeses and craft beer. With a full service deli and amazing salad, soup, hot dish bar, and greenhouse seating along the river, its one of the best places in town to grab lunch. An added plus is that its located right on the bike path. Make it your second stop after you snap a photo of the Capitol!

This is the place to go if you want local organic fair-trade food in central Vermont. Yes its expensive. Theres no getting around that. Those of us who are not one percenters deal with it by getting most of our food at the local Shaws but getting the really good stuff that you cant get anywhere else at the co-op. Amazing dairy yogurt section, best chocolate selection around, and A well-stocked book section are some of the features. Also they have well-trained cheese staff and a huge variety of local cheeses.
