The management here is absolutely awful! I rented a book and returned it thinking it would be over. Then I receive a charge for the full amount, I call them with the exact time and date to verify that I did in fact return it and in turn they told me they would still not issue a refund. I had to call my bank to report is as a scam in order to get my money refunded, this place sucks
They claim to have the best prices for books but When i went in with my textbooks they lowballed me. I had a new book i bought for over $100 and they told me they would buy it for $7. I highly suggest if you have textbooks sell them elsewhere so you can not get ripped off.
Laughable customer service, they tried to heavily undercharge for my textbooks I brought in. I asked why they only would give me a fraction of what my books were worth and I was told they only can afford to pay me 7.50 an hour, they probably can not afford to give you what your books are really worth. What a jokeEDIT: The response that the owner gave to my experience is shameless. It is even more laughable that they believe writing a true account of my experience amounts to extortion, guess what I am gaining nothing from simply saying what happened when I tried to sell my books. I am sorry I wouldnt take a few dollars for books worth 200. It seems like the ownership would rather try to intimidate people who criticize their store rather than run it in an ethical manner to prevent these reviews in the first place.
This store is known as the place that will buyback Iclickers and textbooks cheaply from the homeless and drug addicted population who found them by digging them out of the trash along with not actually cleaning them afterwards. Looking to buy cheap books? Is it worth knowing they were literally in trash and are in filthy condition?

Absolutely horrible customer service, they clearly did not want to help with my problems.I had many issues with my order:it took weeks to ship out even though I paid more for priority shipping and then they used first class instead of priority. That is a scam, they refused to refund my shipping too. The book also was supposed to be in good condition not a water damaged book with writing and ripping pages.Any other store is better than this JOKE of a business.
This is the lowest of the low in terms of stores, I would not even consider it as a real business. Also I heard people say the owner apparently calls himself a CEO to feel more powerful but its a small chain in reality. No one who I have ever talked to about buying or selling books here has had a positive experience.
My book arrived with MOLD and water damage, I was mortified at the condition. I called demanding a refund and they only told me since they already sent it out there was nothing they could do. OUTRAGOUSAlso the reviews by Vernon Knowles, Joseph McNailey, and Stephen Earwin are all fake reviews writen by the owner to try to cover up the state of this sad, failing business.

I ordered a textbook and the condition stated good however it was covered in writing and some pages were ripped. i was told I would not be able to refund this book even though it was in poor condition. it looked as it if had sat in a dark and damp warehouse for years!

Extremely unethical business they will do anything they can get business including lying to students! I was told my book would be sold for $80 but then within a month I looked and they sold it for $23! What a complete fraud, I will never come here again, I havent even gotten my check yet. The manager is not helpful all he has said is that he will look into it and call me back but never has! DO NOT GET SCAMMED LIKE I DID

Absolutely horrible customer service they will do anything they can to keep your money. I was shipped the wrong book, they made me pay for return shipping and they said I MIGHT get a refund after 90 days. What a joke of a business I had to have my bank issue a refund. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
I placed an order months ago and it has never been shipped or refunded. I have emailed and called numerous times and they have only said they will look into it and get back to me. Never once have they contacted me back and they have even stopped responding to my emails, this business is a complete scam and I will never purchase anything from here again.The company seems to care more about writing obvious fake reviews rather than actually helping customers, complete scam!

Great prices on used textbooks and fast service. If you go there, I recommend paying cash because you request your books through a website and have to swipe your card to pay with it. They do not have EMV chip readers.
Terribly unethical business in every single way, Im surprised it is even allowed to operate. I put textbooks onto my advantage account and when i called about receiving my check they said it was already cashed despite me never even getting it. This place has scammed so many people it seems like its honestly laughable that anyone would do any business here

PLEASE READ BEFORE CONDUCTING ANY BUSINESS WITH BOOKHOLDERS-Company lies to customers and employees alike-the purchasing option for ship to store states 4-7 business days but has NEVER been less than a month as these need to be bought by the publisher along with them not actually contacting the publisher for weeks after the original purchase-the price for advantage will drop DRASTICALLY before a book actually sells (lying to customers about what price they will receive)- books bought back are typically bought at a very low price compared to what they sell for-fliers handed out purposely state a much lower price for books than what they actually sell on the website for ( knowingly lying to customers)- refunds are not a guarantee even when it is the companys fault, they will find any reason to not refund (MANY COMPLAINTS FROM CUSTOMERS)-Company pays LESS than minimum wage ($7.50 an hour)-total pay is extremely low even with many hours during a pay period (roughly 50 hours for $300)-Company thinks treating employees extremely poorly along with low pay will make them better employees compared to being treated like humans and being paid fair wages-Company is constantly late with pay to employees and will make no attempt to correct errors on said checks-some employees are not paid at all for work they have completed (many have quit after only a short time of employment therefore the CEO does sees that they are not paid at all)- Some employees took more than 4 months to get a paycheck-Company has students SOLICIT ILLEGALLY on campus after the university told them to stop (endangering student employees for profit)-Money for remotes and fliers takes months and the CEO will ensure everyone either doesnt get paid at all or gets paid much less than what was promised- The CEO John Verde does not care in the slightest about his employees (who pays less than minimum wage and then continue to skim on pay at every opportunity??)- Will require employees to use their vehicles and only pay cents per mile of usage-paychecks that do not make it to employees may not be reprinted at all (will take many months if they are reprinted), CEO may claim they have already been cashed when they have not (literally stealing money from employees)-CEO John Verde will always be watching employees on his mobile iPad or the cameras rather than anything productive-CEO John verde will constantly micromanage work and is notorious for being horrible to deal with (EVERY employee feels the same, feel free to read the reviews on employment sites)
The reason why all glassware and clothing are 60% off is because they have been sitting in the store for nearly a decade.
I guess its an okay place. I dont attend college but they do take old textbooks and pay you for them if they sell. And they have a pretty nice system that automatically updates to stay competitive with Amazon. Just not really a place you want to hang out unless youre going to college.
DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOKS HERE.I listed my books here through their advantage program. The books sold, checks were printed and supposedly mailed to me. The checks were then cashed by someone who wasnt me months later and going on 2 years later bookholders still has no answer for me from their investigation into the stolen checks.I have a feeling someone is pocketing every few checks that dont get picked up right away rather than making them and then hoping people go away instead of waiting 2 years for a few hundred $.I have called and talked to managers both at this location and at the headquarters in College Park and they tell me every time that This sounds unusual. Ill look into it and get back to you by the end of the day. They never call back and I repeat this process every few days.If someone doesnt find my checks or reprint them in the next few weeks a small claims suit will be coming Bookholders way.I was brought in by the business model of selling the books for you and taking a cut. And it seems I have been burned by the under the table scam they seem to be running in the background. And to broke college students of all people!
“Sold” textbooks to them and was told I would be sent a check when they were sold. 2 years later I have not received any money nor can I get my books back.
My books were out onto the advantage account back in January. I was told by an employee that I would receive a check for my books once they sold, since then all of them have sold and I have also not received my check. The website has said “check pending” almost 8 months, I really wish I had not put my books onto this program because I feel as if I will never receive compensation.

Unclear return policy for rentals on the site. Returned a rental book the day before classes and was told by an employee the money would be refunded to my card. Money was never refunded and went back to see why, and turns out rental books are not eligible for refunds unless the class is dropped.
Book I ordered came weeks late even though I paid more for priority shipping. This business is horrible and customer service would not refund my shipping. Priority shipping takes day not weeks.

This place SUCKS!! They pass out little papers all over WVU with prices..that aren’t true, when I went to question why they passed out papers today in my class with prices that aren’t matching their website they said well they could just have one book at that price, save your time and go elsewhere.
Just another bookstore near a university campus. Sometimes they have the books you need at a good price. With the WVU Bookstore on campus matching everybodys online prices, they are the go to spot.
They are better than the WVU bookstore and The BookExchange. You arent going to find better prices locally than here. They are generally really helpful too. I still suggest to check Amazon and Chegg for better book prices though.

I will never go to Bookholders again. I went in at the beginning of the year to pickup my books but was only given half of my order. I was told the other books werent available, so I bought the ones I didnt get elsewhere since I needed them that day. Three weeks later I got a call saying that I had books at the store. I went in to say I needed to return them, and they treated me like I was incompetent. Told me that it was my responsibility to have gotten the books, even though I did go in to pick them up and their dumbass employees didnt give them to me. Awful customer service. Wouldnt give me my money back after THEIR mistake...300 dollars later Im never returning to that store again. If I owned that store every single employee would be fired. Too much attitude and bitchiness.
