I found General Marine on Mercury Marine Racings website. It is close to my work, so I reached out to them first. I couldnt be happier that I did! Rob is a very friendly guy, and has treated me with integrity and respect. I was very pleased when he didnt have a confused look on his face when I started talking about the unique engine in my Advantage performance boat. He Is well read on Mercury performance as well as very experienced in boat / marine repair. There shop is very nice as well as all of the employees that I had the pleasure to deal with. My boat is a bit older and has been sitting for quite a while; it would be no surprise for any shop to try to sell me quite a bit of parts and service, but these folks were very complimentary of the condition of my boat and only sold me the parts that I absolutely needed. I am ecstatic to know there is a Mercury Racing shop in the valley that knows their stuff and is so easy to work with. I look forward to many years of this professional relationship and honestly wish these folks the best!
Had a new engine put in. Very nice & conscientious group. They work hard to do the best possible. They really worked hard to get my boat done when they knew I was frustrated. Their attention to detail and follow up is great. The new engine seems really great. Got to get it in the water and through the break in to know. Spent the time to answer all my questions. Thank you. :)
They have always been really good with helping us with our boat. The prices are good and the staff is wonderful. They are all really nice. They even helped me with backing the boat in and hooking the boat to my truck when I had to go by myself to drop it off and pick it up. They are great!!!
There is no magic wand for any boat and it will always cost money! The idea is to find somebody that is fair honest and knowledgeable! All of which you will find here the staff is mostly family and they treat you as one of their own I will never go to another boat shop. Theyre only concern was getting me back on the water as cost-effectively as possible but they were honest about what it would cost and didnt try to add any extras while I had one other experience with another company that tried to take me for a ride. Thank you to the whole general marine family its great to walk through your doors funny that you know my name Ive only been a customer for a year but you have me for the rest of my life for sure!
I was lucky enough to hear about General Marine and took my 23 ft. Chaparral there to have repairs made, have it winterized and stored for winter. I decided to do this after meeting Robert, Austin and Julie during the summer and i was impressed with how friendly they were and how knowledgeable they are about my boat model. They always make recommendations and always look for competitive pricing for parts. They are genuinely interested in having their customers happy about using their boat and attempt to always have it when you need it. They are the Best!
Great place, amazing people, very knowledgeable and experienced. They make sure their customers are happy, safe on the water and taken care of. Very informative and respectful, friendly people. Highly recommend bringing your boat here for the best service in the valley.
General Marine is an excellent place to take your boat for servicing and repairs. The Techs working there are very nice and helpful, and Rob the owner is the most knowledgeable boat repairman in the state of Utah. When other boat repair shops around Utah can’t figure something out they refer the customer to Rob. This was my experience and Rob was able to figure out what was wrong with my Malibu and fix it. Do yourself a favor, when your boat requires maintenance and repairs, take it straight to general marine
Did everything needed in a timely way. I loved the constant information.
Very personable owners and staff! They go above and beyond to insure satisfaction. Very trustworthy with everything they do!
Communication was excellent, they kept me updated and informed me of any changes to the work order the recommended. They were timely on there service. Very professional.
Absolutely fantastic customer service and engine repair knowledge they also installed two brand new motors for me on my fishing boat as well as my speedboat highly recommend them for anybody
General Marine has done a great job keeping us on the water ! Good family business great communication.
Awesome experience! Great people and great prices highly recommend.
Excellent customer service and incredible knowledge of their craft.
Great place to get your boat ready for the water honest knowledgeable and fair pricing and very friendly.
Great customer service, rates are reasonable, I highly recommend
General Marine replaced our engine and completely reupholstered our Moomba. We cant say enough about Rob, Svjetlana and the entire staff, who bent over backwards to help us. They take great pride in their work and in their product. We would recommend General Marine to anyone. THANK YOU!!!---Brooke & Matt Jepsen
Best and easiest experience buying a motor or any product for that matter. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and welcoming.Everyone is very helpful with any questions that need to be answered and taking their time to explain the details.I would highly recommend this place if you need anything done with your boat or outboard or if you need any parts literally anything to do with your boat they can most likely help with. They’re amazing!10/10 would def come back and will come back!
I really liked the way they cared about my boat.
Nice people. Informative. Directed me to what they thought was a more appropriate seller. Of course, I will come back to General Marine in the end.
Great service and excellent knowledge of my engine. I needed a last minute repair before departing to Lake Powell. Robert and General Marine came highly recommended from Robertson Marine. Robert and his team were able to save the trip by getting me right in. Being a certified Mercury Racing tech was a HUGE plus, since I run the Mercury Racing 520. In the past Ive hauled my boat to Lake Havasu for everything but winterizing...no more Lake Havasu for repairs, General Marine is my new boat service center.
I bought a boat and worked with Austin on getting it all fixed up. He was extremely generous and worked faster than he suggested he might so it was cheaper. Boat ran perfectly after bringing it in. He was very responsive and the whole process as seamless. Highly recommend.
Great Service!
I wouldn’t take my boat any where else. Nice to find these family owned shops that truly care about you and your boat. Pricing is more than reasonable and service tops what the dealers have to offer.
General Marine are pros at boat jseat repair! Great work and affordable price!
These guys are down to earth pros. Best experience. I’ve been other places and they put me down for having a 87. My boats clean. And those guys at general didn’t even blink an eye. 5 star first class service
I have personally know Rob for nearly 20 years. He worked for me as a technician at Taylor’s Boats when I was the Service Manager. Rob was ranked as one of the top 10 technician in the US by Boating Industries magazine. He is a very knowledgeable yet a humble guy who always does the the right thing for the customer. I would recommend him for any size of repair from small outboards to high output horsepower motors. But it doesn’t stop there, he can fix anything in a boat! I recommend him to anyone I know that is in need of any size boat repair! Do your self a favor if you want it fixed right and the first time, take it to Rob Peat!
I love General Marine. Svjetlana, Rob, and Austin are incredible about keeping good on commitments. I will only about ever bring my boat to them.
I was looking for a local boat repair site so I called around and explained my oil leak that I had on the out drive and the people at General Marine were the most knowledgeable and worked with me on the repair. They looked the boat over and had some good maintenance suggestions but did not try and sale me unneeded repairs. I would recommend them to anyone needing boat repairs.
Very knowledgeable and helpful crew! All of my questions were answered and they are some of the most friendly people. I wouldn’t take my boat anywhere else, I would recommend General Marine to anyone who is looking to get their boat serviced or fixed, they will help you with exactly what you need👍
Rob spent a lot of time with us after he diagnosed the problem. He explained the repairs needed and the boat was finished when he promised. Staff is very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend them.
Unethical - Watch out for these guys if your boat needs repair... if they hear insurance job they will jack up the prices. Their work order contract very clearly states they will charge $65/day for storage starting 3 business days AFTER the insurance company is notified of repair charges. They stuck me for $2800 in storage fees even though they cant produce any documentation showing they sent anything to my insurance company when they said they did. Bottom line - they charged $5100 to do 16 hrs of work by their own admission because they didnt get the pumped up insurance repair. Robert wont respond to me now either.
Bought an outboard and they were very thorough with all my questions and very helpful upon install, this is going to be my go to for my boat, these guys are awesome, very happy customer, thanks
Great service and timely. Robert takes the time to explain things; never feel rushed. Love the creative winterization service; bring your boat in during the fall and you DO NOT need to bring it back in the spring... this allows me to head directly to the lake (saving time and money),
Great family run business that takes care of their customers! And they do great upholstery work!
We have been taking our boat to these guys for a few years now. Always very friendly and very competitive pricing. I will never take my boat anywhere else as long as these guys are around. Great customer service and very friendly. Thank you General Marine.
Great experience, these guys are fair and know their stuff.Ill agree with another reviewer who said they just found their new go-to boat shop for all repair work. While most other shops were 2-4 weeks out from seeing us due to the busy summer season, Robert and crew got us in within a few days. Not only that, we had all of our necessary repairs finished same day. Also, I asked that they do a spot check of any problem areas in the motor. Robert found a couple of things, but did not pressure me into fixing them right away. Other shops Ive dealt with would make it a matter of life and death that you fix things immediately.I was given options, and straight up answers. They even gave me instructions on how to fix a few simple things that would have cost me much more if I let them do it.I was given pricing up front, and they were so knowledgeable that they could lay out time and cost before the job even started. Prices were fair - lower than most in the valley. They didnt drastically overcharge for parts either. Thanks guys - good job.
Rob and his team are super friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!
Working with Robert and his wife was absolutely an amazing experience. My throttle cable broke on my used boat I just purchased. It was the Tuesday before Memorial weekend and every shop I called was 3-4 weeks out. I told Rob and his wife my dilemma and without hesitation, he said bring me the boat as soon as possible. Within 24 hours my boat was complete and he gave me a complete tutorial on the things I should know about my new boat. If youre looking for an honest, knowledgeable, hard working local guy... RV General and Marine is the place you should take your boat. Super happy with these guys. 5 stars!
This is the only place my dad and I will take our boats for anything! Very knowledgeable, friendly and the best prices in town!
Great service & explanation of what they did to get my boat running & tuned up.
Great Service and Warranties Worked Performed!!!!My story with General Marine and Rob starts over 2 years ago. General Marine/Rob installed a rebuilt motor into my older model family run about boat just over 2 years ago. Rebuilt motor was received from a vendor General Marine works with. Rebuilt motor came with 1 year warranty, from vendor with installation labor warranty provided by General Marine. Once Motor was received from vendor, it was installed quickly with no concerns. General Marine/Rob provided instructions for break in period. During break in period, newly installed rebuilt motor would not idle properly with rocker arm and push rod problem identified. This item was quickly addressed under warranty. Again, during break in period engine would still not idle properly. Rob went out of his way on several occasions to determine root cause, all subsequent service did not correct the issue. Finally, Rob took the motor out of the boat to complete a thorough diagnostics. Come to find out. The rebuilt motor was not rebuilt properly with incorrect rings installed. Vendor would not honor warranty. However, General Marine/Rob honored their word and warranty and replaced the rebuilt engine with a new engine at General Marines cost, which was substantial. (As a side note, General Marine no longer uses this vendor for its rebuilt engines.) Could not say enough good about Robs willingness and actions to make things right. New engine installed, motor idles and runs properly. Thanks Rob!
Awesome staff, super friendly and helpful! Highly recommend!
An amazing clean shop with service far and above that I ever expected. Every question I asked was answered in a proper manner that I didnt feel bad for asking them. I will certainly return for any future purchases.
The guy was super helpful and knows his stuff. Thanks!!
Robert is very professional and he knows his stuff. I spoke to him about a rebuild I need done.
Business partner, great people, friendly environment
100% recommend. I called a few shops and no one could get me in until end of next month. I had a trip planned this weekend and my bilge pump was not working. I explained my situation and although he was booked he said he would squeeze me in. Super knowledgeable with the indmar engine. Looked everything over for me and gave me some recommendations. I will be taking my boat to Robert for all my future service needs!!
2001 5.7L four winns. Couldnt for the life of me figure out what was wrong with my boat. Took it to General Marine. $125 for a diagnosis. I know it took much longer than what they charged me for. They recommend I did the changes because it should be much cheaper. Did the work they recommend and bam boat runs great!!! I even had to call back and ask a few questions. No hesitation they were quick to help! This place is f%&!ing awesome. Ill never go anywhere else. I highly recommend if youre having issues to call General Marine!!!Thank you so much! -Sean Gibson-
Rob is the best marine mechanic in the industry. He had my 94 Volvo DP fixed and running like new in 1 day after a major electrical melt down. Look around his shop and you will see boats from almost all other marinas. Its obvious why.
Definitely will not take my boat anywhere else, everyone at this boat shop is very knowledgeable about all kinds of different engines and what’s best for the engine, also they are very honest and true to there work
Been bringing my boat here for about 2 years, they do a great job, super fast turn around time, and excellent work provided.
Would never go anywhere else Honest Shop
I think I just found my new boat service shop. Family owned business. Sjvetlana, the wife and receptionist is nice and knowledgeable. Robert, the husband, has a lot of experience as a boat mechanic. They will discourage you from making unnecessary service.
OK, this is a long story, and so I dont get bashed and blamed by the owner like they did to me verbally, I have to tell the long version.I met Rob and his family at the 2019 Salt Lake boat show after he was referred to me by a good friend and fellow slalom skier. I liked them right away and felt good about taking my ski boat to them for repairs and upgrades (I do almost all of the maintenance and service work on my boats, cars, trucks and farm equipment because Ive been a motor head all my life, and almost no one does it like I want).Rob rebuilt the Weber 4 bbl carb on my 5.7 Mercury inboard and fixed a minor gas leak. For some reason I must have told them to go ahead and change the engine oil and oil and gas filters, which I have always done myself. Because I liked the work they did I went ahead and bought all the tune up parts (plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor) and replaced them myself. We took the boat to Lake Meade in April for our annual spring ski trip and it ran better than ever. I was very happy. Before I took the boat to our local lake in May I check the oil and found it was about 2 qts overfilled with oil! I drained the oil down to the full line and headed to the lake. I noticed right away it was not running quite as well as it had been. It was hard to start when the engine was at operating temperature and would load up (flood) when I shut the engine off between skiers. It got worse and worse until it finally would not run at all. It just dumped fuel down the carburetor and the last time out I had to get towed in.I called Rob and told him I thought the engine was acting like the float was stuck, he told me to bring the boat in.After having the boat for a couple of days Rob told me he could not replicate the flooding issue I was having and he claimed to have rebuilt the carburetor again using another $200 carb kit, and had his daughter explain to me how an electric choke worked. When we took the boat out again it did the exact same thing, would not run at all. Rob told me to bring the boat in again. He said he checked it out and the carb was fine but it was flooding because it needed a new $700 distributor. I had him order it.After having the boat for a week I called to see if it was ready and Austin told me the distributor was in and I was next in line, the boat would be ready the next day. I called the next day and Robs daughter told me she talked to Rob, the part was not in yet, and they would have it ready the next Monday.Needless to say, I was not happy and expressed my frustration with the situation. Robs wife called me back immediately and chastised me severely for yelling at her daughter, told me I never had an appointment to bring my boat in and they were doing me a favor by working on it at all. After throwing the blame and a couple of personal insults at me I told her I was done and wanted my boat back and she said come and get it. I did.The next Monday I called Ron Tanis at skiboatpartsonline.com (great guy, great website and very good instructional videos on YouTube, which taught me how to align my prop shaft so the shaft seal would stay adjusted). After explaining to Ron the flooding issues with my carb he said it could not be the distributor causing the problem, I probably had a stuck float (which is what I told Rob the 1st time I brought the boat back).I took the boat to my good friend Scott Proctor, a long time Ogden mechanic. We ran the boat, it loaded up with gas, Scott pulled the top off the Weber carburetor and found that one of the two floats had gas in it and was not shutting off the fuel like it should. He also said it did not appear to him that the carb had been rebuilt recently, due to the dirty condition of the metering rods, and the the marks on the needles where it seals against the seat. He replaced the floats with a $15 kit, fired up the engine, checked the distributor, which he said was working perfect on his timing light (Rob had told me his timing light indicated the distributor was firing indiscriminately) and my boat is back running perfect again!
Great people great prices and great work
This guy fixed my dads boat, well kind of. Got it out on the water, fuel line was leaking, oil leaking out of the outdrive, then talked him into purchasing an item and after it was returned wont give him his money. The guy has the item and the money. He is half assed, and a thief. I would recommend going anywhere else first.
**BEWARE** **SCAMMERS** I would highly advise that you choose another shop to work on your boat unless you want to be ripped off and scammed. Their business practices are incredibly suspect and verge on fraudulent. Watch out for their 10% shop fee on top of their $109.00 per hour rate. They charged us a $401.28 Shop Fee on a $4,700.00 invoice. Hmmmmm........without a disclosure of a 10% shop fee. Total violation of Utah polices and procedures. **BEWARE**
Good costumer service
Top notch!!! Definitely recommend
He is very detailed and wants to do the right thing for your boat and wallet.
Do not go there, they are only friendly when you pay them money, unfortunately those people not friendly
Rob is a wizard at making boats awesome
I called a few shops around the valley and General Marine was the only shop that offered same day repair for my impeller on my 2006 Maxum 2000SR3. Not only that but I was charged a fair rate and my boat runs great! Thank you!
