Such an amazing store! After having a not so amazing experience at another guitar store we came for an amp. The gentleman who helped us was amazing. He asked what kind of guitar my husband bought and used that same one they had to show us different amps. We really appreciate the time that was taken to help us out and made our experience so much better after a rough trip earlier in that day. Will be coming here for all our music needs from now on.
I personally have never met Derek before this encounter.Derek was contracted by a third party to transfer the piano that has been in my family for about 60 years to their home. Derek showed up and politely identified who he was and why he was there. He was very courteous to everyone in the home. His personal appearance was very professional. He quickly adapted to my homes flooring challenges. In one move I made in the past I saw 4 men struggle to transport this piano into my home. Derek did the job by himself with alacrity. He quickly assessed the piano for tuning and function. He smartly and gently answered my questions about the piano. He made the piano transport into his trailer in about 5 minutes; about 10 minutes from arrival to departure from my home. I was/am totally impressed with Dereks ability, knowledge, politeness and professionalism. And though I did not pay him for this service I highly recommend Derek for this type work. He is easily worth what you will pay him to work for you.I aspire to Dereks excellent portrayed example of what I consider personal qualities of Christ Jesus. Thank you Derek!
I’ve been shopping amplifiers for about a year and I finally narrowed it down. I checked all the online super corps and had decided I would just order online. On a whim, I checked out Dorsey music online and seen they had the amp I was after in stock! So I went down to the Nampa location Saturday to check it out. Well, they didn’t have it at that location but my salesman Dave said, hey, don’t worry, I’ll have it transferred over here for you to try out. Took my info and I left wondering if I would even get a call back. Tuesday morning, Dave called me and said “I got in in for you. Come in when you can and try it”. I went in after work and was greeted by Dave and he hooked it up and closed off the room so I could give it a whirl.I bought it. But, they didn’t send over the foot switch. So I offered to pick it up at their Garden City location near my work. When I walked in, Dave had the switch set out with a new cable and a cover for the amp. In this day and age, customer service is a rare find. And guys like Dave are even rarer than hens teeth.Dorsey and Dave will be getting all my family’s music business going forward and I highly recommend everyone else do the same. You rock Dave!
The staff here are amazing! Had my bass guitar serviced by Dave, who did an excellent job. Derek and Dave have consulted with me on equipment needed for our church. Great source of information and they have not steered me wrong. I have bought a lot of equipment from them and am super happy!
Best place around to shop for musical instruments, sheet music, music books, repair service, music lessons. I KNOW they have more to offer.
There’s not many music places in Nampa so we figured we would check this spot out. My son loves guitars and he loves to look around in this store. However there is a blond lady that wears glasses that works there that is so very rude. She never says hello when my kids go in there and she treats them like a nuisance unless she is under the impression that they’re going to buy something expensive. Having worked in customer service for years I don’t appreciate her horrible customer service. Everyone is a potential customer and you never know what kind of day a person can be having so you should treat everyone kind. Unbelievable. There’s one guy named Brandon that is very kind to my son and my son enjoys conversation with him. Other than that I would definitely not recommend this place. Overpriced and rude customer service.
Dorsey and his entire staff are amazing! They have the best music equipment selection in Idaho!
Dorsey is the best music store I have ever worked with. I attend a local High school and Derek and David are super awesome and has helped us out a lot. I know all the staff, and the staff know me too. They know exactly what Instrument I play, they even remember the exact Bass I got! Super Friendly staff and %1000 recommend!
Great help for my friend looking for a new speaker for his keyboard. And he found one with their help. Thanks guys. 👍🤜🤛🎹🎼🎶🎵
First off nice store and good selection. My issue is that when I bought a less expensive guitar and had an issue with it they brow beat me saying I should have purchased a more expensive guitar. I had an acoustic guitar that my children bought me took it in because it was barely playable and they asked me why would I get a cheap guitar instead of making the one that was a gift playable. The worse type of customer service you can receive is a condescending sales person. If you don’t want to make a guitar playable don’t sell that brand of guitar. And if you do sell it at least make it playable and be respectful of your clientele. It’s like your pushing your local people into going to a big retail seller because you have no sense of what it is to be in a community. I have made multiple purchases from them and unfortunately have made my last.
Customer service is awesome and prices are lower than anywhere in the state. Great people working there at all times
Always a great experience! Large selection of many instruments and a super helpful staff!
Always love these guys. Theyve always been friendly and helpful, but most of all, they make me feel welcome in their establishment as soon as I walk in the door, and that is huge.
Everyone is so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. They have such a great selection of instruments
Very friendly staff. Even when they are busy, its only very short time before someone offers to assist. I order a lot of goods on online and Ive found Dorseys prices to be the same on most everything Ive looked for - and you have the added value of supporting a locally owned business. Lastly, I am rather impatient at times - Get it Next Day shipping cant beat just down the street.
I choose this place because they take good care of the instruments i bring in for my son to play in his orchestra.
Ive had good experiences at the Nampa location (not so much at the Boise location, and Ive never the Ontario location). Ive bought a guitar here, and a number of different music accessories. The electric guitar/bass room is pretty cramped, so more space in store would be nice. But the employees have always been helpful. I came in one day looking for a shipping box for a guitar that I had sold on Reverb, and they let me have one of their left over boxes that they had on hand for free.I actually walked in just a couple days ago after looking on the website hoping they had a new model guitar (it wasnt listed on the website, which can be hit and miss), but I saw the exact guitar, so Im glad I stopped in.
Nice friendly knowledgeable staff. Comparable prices. Wide selection of instruments and accessories for every Musician. They also give. Music lessons as well. I had the pleasure to speak with Derek on the phone first, then I went down to the store and met up with him. It is easy to find and easy access from Caldwell Blvd. Theres plenty of parking.I found out that when you purchase an item, they automatically warrant the item in the store. We conducted our business. I will go back for all my Musical needs.
I LOVE Dorsey Music. Went in and the owner helped me personally and I picked up a nice Fender Accoustic for a good price. A couple of weeks went by and I went in looking at electri guitars. I went in 3 separate times and each time they were happy to see me and gladly let me plug in any guitar I wanted and play in their awesome electric room. I went in yesterday (2/3/21). Dave was there and he is amazing! He recommended different guitar and amps and I felt that he cared about me and my music, not just trying to talk up products to make more money. I need up falling in love with a Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet BT and a Fender Mustang GT40 amp. I called back later to talk to him about wall mount stands for my 2 guitars and again he was nothing but helpful. I went in to get the wall mounts and the employees went out of their way to find me a practice stool in my price range too. I love this shop and they have a customer for life right here. Thank You Dorsey Music!!!
Very knowledgeable and helpful. Well definitely be back!
There are lots of quality guitars in this store and the staff has been great thus far.
Prices were lower than Dunkley. Gave me a lot of great info on violins
Maybe the best place in Idaho to get a double bass. Hardly anywhere in Twin Falls had a double bass and the ones they did were used and expensive for being in poor condition. Dorsey had a large selection in a variety of places, were helpful and eager to make a sale.
Excellent service. They helped us find the exact amplifier and hardware we need for our karaoke system. And at an AWESOME price. Thank you so much❗
The sheer amount of gear is impressive for the floor space they have. They dont have some of the coolest stuff, but well, thats in tune with the local market. Price are what they are, same as everywhere. The staff is very friendly, experienced and helpful, a lot more so than the average big-national-company employee. Thats what sets them apart. That, and the quality of all the extra services they offer on the side, such as guitar tune-ups (which I used) and lessons (Ive heard good things about).
Great service, everyone is super helpful at this location. 1 thing that needs to change is photos should be posted on their website of inventory. That would be very very useful.
Worked with Dave on buying a begginer trombone for my 6th grade son, great help and service!!
Wasnt helped for the longest time and when someone finally assisted me they acted as if my insignificance was burdening their life. Ended up leaving to take my business somewhere itd be appreciated.
This place is where I come forQuality repair online guitars and other musical equipment Ive always had wonderful service here Ive always been very pleased with the outcome of their work Ive had work done on a few of my guitarsThere.. I recommend Network to anybody that needs repair job on a quality instrument thank you Dorsey Music for fixing my loved instruments.
Nice staff, reasonable prices.
I would had given this 5 ☆ however I paid for my guitar to be tuned, it was not done! The gal at the register super friendly, seen a good amount of customers and products 👈✅
They did great...now. I have a piano back..never thought i could.. Thank you a million times over....
I travel quite a bit, and when Im on the road I try and hit all the guitar shops nearby. Dorsey music was not only the best in that area, it was one of the best Ive been to in a while! VERY helpful staff, good selection of guitars and accessories.
Great music selection, found a new guitar slide quickly and they allowed me to play many of their guitars without complaint. Highly recommend.
Everyone that works here was so kind and helpful.
Great staff and always have what we need for reeds and guitar strings when in a pinch
We had a great experience with this place! We came to have a guitar restrung, and possibly purchase another (depending on the service we got, and their prices). We are specifically so thankful for Dave. I am so appreciative of him! He took great interest in helping my teen son learn more about guitars. He praised him and really built him up, teaching him so much while we were there! He also was so sweet with our other (younger) kids...letting them try out instruments and really giving them a love for it all! There was also a female employee who was just as sweet and so helpful. I cant say enough about these two! Really had a great time there and are VERY happy with the service we got, as well as the guitar we purchased. As long as they are there, we will continue to come back for all our music needs!
Amazing staff ....great products....will be back for sure.....they Rock....literally
I was very impressed with the staff at this place. We went on Labor Day weekend to get my son a trombone for school. They were very knowledgeable and showed us what to look for in a good trombone. We had gone to another music store and they were not nearly as knowledgeable and helpful. The staff at Dorsey took the time to show my son how to put the instrument together and how to get a sound out of it. I saw them do this with other children that were also new to band. We were there at around closing time, but instead of rushing us out so that they could start their weekend, they were more concerned with making sure my son was comfortable with putting this instrument together. Great place!
My son rents a Cello from Dorsey Music for his orchestra class. The staff at Dorsey have always been extremely helpful and cooperative. My sons first cello was destroyed by accident at school and Dorsey Music was very helpful in finding him a replacement and working with the school. I would definitely recommend using Dorsey music for any musician or student. The staff are knowledgeable, helpful and very cooperative.
Shout out to Dorsey Music here in Nampa! My daughter had snapped a string on her violin a while back and reminded me last minute that she needed a new string for her test in orchestra at school. Called them to confirm what time they close and they had JUST closed 3 minutes prior! The nice gentleman on the other end of the line could sense my desperation. He helped us determine what strings she needed, checked to see they had them in stock, and found someone to stay at the store until we could get there to purchase them! So nice to have someone go out of their way and make an exception for the customer!
This place has a lot of items. Though it feels like being at a car lot. I had 3 people help me. The first kind of knew where to look. They second kept trying to sell me what I didnt want. The third overheard and actually helped me. Then while the second was finishing helping me the second came and flat out interrupted us and was rude. Lastly, they wont return your money if you bring in a return. Only in store credit.
Nice and quiet place. The guitar I got sounds great!
LOVE this music store! The only one I will buy from! Staff is friendly and extremely helpful. They have everything from batons, to didgeridoos! They spend the time to explain everything to me and know my name when I come in! Recommend this music store to anyone who is interested in music!
Looked all over the valley for an audio adapter. Guess who was the only one who had it? Thanks, guys!
Great selection of instruments. Also super nice and super helpful staff.
Never had a bad experience. The staff is very nice and personable, and even more so, accommodating. Every request I have within reason, they try to facilitate it. The manager is totally cool and the staff, I believe, is a direct reflection of him. Thanks Dorsey, I will continue to support.
Love it got my upright bass there :)
Great friendly service, lots of products to coose from and staff is very knowledgeable. Grat prices. Would recommend to anyone in the music industry.
I took my son in just before Christmas to look at guitars. The staff couldnt have been more helpful. They took him into the guitar room and let him play each guitar as long as he wanted. They even went so far as to teach him about the electric guitar and a few other things set up wise. Answered all our questions and spent a good 45 min. with us. Awesome customer service. Highly recommend them.
Great service.
Dave and the crew always service with a smile and lots of patients. Even to an old guitar hack like me. Do yourself a favor and see these folks for all your musical needs! !
Great selection. Theyve been very helpful. So glad I dont have to go to Boise for my music books. Good prices as well.
Weve been going here for the past 8 years. I came in to ask about my trombone slide. They spent a lot of time explaining the slide and took time to show me how to do things. I extremely appreciated the effort and time they spent with me.
When my friend and I walked in, we were met with assistance immediately. The service was wonderful-- our assistant was very informative and helped us find a quality guitar that suited our price range. We were very satisfied with our experience, and will return for any other musical needs.
These guys are alright. Ive bought PA equipment from them, and when I ask them if they can give me a better price they do. I check around and its a competitive price. I will say they have plenty of gear. Sales guys are ok to deal with but you gotta take charge since your suppose to know what your talking about. Over all Dorsey is OK.
They are very helpful good customer service and tried there best to help me in every very nice people
So disappointed. Ill admit I came in expecting to be helped and I didnt hide that I didnt know the difference between a high end guitar or a cheap one. He seemed to be helpful and let my son try different guitars to size them to my son. He did seem a little off the whole time like he was a little humored I didnt know my guitars. He knew the price range we wanted to spend. He ended up bringing us a guitar with no price tag on it This is the only one without a tag. My son loved this one so I asked him the price. It happened to be exactly what our budget was. When he was out of the room we took a picture of the model number. When we left we did research. He was trying to sell us a $180 guitar for $300. And was trying to take advantage that we were trusting his help for a newbie. Talked to my musical friend they said they are notorious for that and they are crooks. So disappointed in that level of dishonesty. I thought it was weird this guitar was missing its price tag.
First time shopping here and Ill be back! Great selection and friendly staff! See ya never Guitar Center!
Really friendly and knowledgeable folks. Ive done business with them in the past and have always been happy with the results.
Great selection and knowledgable staff. We bought a ukulele and I was very impressed with the customer service. Would definitely go back.
Great knowledgeable staff, great selection of anything musical and a Treasure Valley icon in the music industry. My family doesnt shop any where else.
Great time in the guitar rm nice Taylor selection.
I love this place. I bought an awesome ukulele here and the staff was very helpful
Super helpful and very friendly
I rented two instruments for my kids. The employees were awesome to work with, very knowledgeable and took the time to make sure my kids understood how to care for the clarinet and baritone. Sergio was especially helpful. I definitely recommend Dorsey in Nampa.
Recently purchased an acoustic guitar from them. Very knowledgeable and low pressure; focussed on what we needed, not on upselling. Really went above and beyond to make our experience outstanding. Definitely have a customer for life with me!
Love their music and instrument options!
Honestly super nice guys, I’ve been playing guitar for about a year now and the guy didn’t make me feel like an idiot apart from when he was speaking in gauge but that’s my fault for not knowing what gauge was. Let me play some guitars and set me up with a drop a tuning set and also fixed my loose input jack for free!!
I have purchased several items from Dorsey music over many years. My first purchase was a beautiful B.C. Rich Bich guitar in 1988. I understand both types of reviews presented in Google reviews. The sales people have always been money motivated and rude. I expect poor service when I shop there. Dorsey music is not a store I rely on to answer questions or for professional advice. I go there specifically because they have a product I want and it serves my instant gratification. Their prices, however, are competitive and they offer brands and products that are not sold in every other store. I will continue to shop at Dorsey Music, sporadically, as the need suits me and if their price is right.
Super nice people Helpful and respectful. Good prices on equipment too.
One of my favorite places to go and Shop! I would have gotten 5 stars but my two favorite people werent there LOL
Staff is so helpful here, rental prices are extremely reasonable
We stopped in today too restring a string on our daughters violin. An older employee lectured us for 5 min on the fact that we didnt purchase from them. He was condescending and rude. He also informed us that the $18 string we just purchased was difficult to match because of our cheap Chinese strings that were origionally on our violin. (They werent) the guy who actually did restring the violin was really nice, super helpful and very professional, but we wouldnt come back. We dont enjoy being lectured just to buy a string.
They have an awful selection of instruments and accessories! If you are looking for an overpriced and unhelpful experience then you have found the right place! If you actually care about music at all, I would recommend going to Dunkley Music Store!
Having purchased multiple items and lessons for my daughter. Good selection, accommodating in price ranges and well rounded knowledgeable staff.
Great location. Staff is always super friendly and helpful. They always fix my problems quickly and efficiently. They treat me like family.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great selection and prices.
They have a terrible selection, pressure people into buying things they dont want, have no returns, and terrible customer service. They are extremely overpriced and unhelpful. I was not told about the 30 day exchange policy, nor was I told about price-matching. As for the TENOR saxophone mouthpiece, they did not have the one that I inquired about, which is extremely common and popular, nor did they have the reeds I inquired about, which are also extremely common and popular. I was instead stuck with a mouthpiece that I didnt want, that I payed $20 extra for, and they now have an extremely dissatisfied customer that will never return. If youd like a much better experience, more knowledgable staff, and better pricing I would suggest going to Dunkley Music instead.
I went in to get bass string for my 5 string. The first thing I saod was that I had a 5 string bass, then they brought me a 4 string pack I said that was th wrong one, then they rudely said that I should have mentioned something earlier even though I said the only reason I was there was because I needed a B string.
We bought our first Merlin Guitar here and we love it!
This place SUCKS! I had just purchased a guitar from a different store, noticed it was missing a string so I had taken it here to get it fixed. Once I walked in I was stared down by staff, and got major attitude. Instead of stringing the guitar they tried to sell me a new one for more than I had already spent. Total waste of time, and I had never felt so degraded in my life :(
We purchased a trumpet at the beginning of the school year for my son. The guy helping us was very kind and answered all my questions without making me feel stupid (and there were a lot, I know nothing about instruments). Trumpet worked excellent, not a single problem. Here we are a few months later and we decided to switch to the saxophone. The man that helped us (he has glasses and is bilingual, I believe) was so kind! He sat down with my son and showed him how to properly hold the instrument and really took his time just showing him the basics. He was awesome and we truly appreciate the service we received in the past and today! Thank you, we will be back!
Not impressed. First thing they say is I prefer you to do it yourself. If I knew what I was doing, would I be asking for help? So not impressed.
On several occasions, have I entered the store to try and possibly buy guitars, and every time I am treated terribly. I am 14 years old and have been playing guitar for 3 years, no matter what though, I am constantly treated as a child and told basic beginner tips. Even after telling them how long Ive been playing they continue to tell me 1st year tricks. Just to add to that, they constantly try to sell me stuff I dont want or need. Upon telling them Im not looking to buy they continue to sell amps, cables, guitars, strings, and picks. At my most recent visit, one of the employees, an older man with glasses, was selling something to a customer. My amp was at reasonable volume and wasnt bothering anyone. Regardless, the man had told me to turn it down. I was reluctant to at first, but did so anyways because I didnt want to bother anyone. In return, he turned his volume WAY louder than mine was, to the point where I could barely hear my amp. After two to three minutes, he told me to turn mine down some more so he could his up louder. I was in the store for only ten minutes, and immediatly felt unwelcomed. Like I said, this is not the first time this has happened. I honestly recomend taking the drive to guitar center. The employees their are much more customer friendly employees and reasonable prices.
I rented a cello for my daughter and was initially very pleased. But after two months when my payment was due I could not find the account online, so the next time we were in the shop I asked the staff about it. They had no record of it and proceeded to interrupt my daughters lesson to check the number on the cello. Still nothing. They found the contract and called me back the next day. It had never been entered into the system and although my card was swiped when we signed the contract and took the cello home, the transaction had not gone through. They had me go back through my bank statements from two months previous and we confirmed that it had not gone through. At which point, instead of apologizing for THEIR mistake, they acted like I was trying to steal from them. Even upon going in to pay the whole 3 months, they were rude and condescending even though I was the one who brought the mistake to their attention. I honestly wanted to just give them the damn cello back and rent from somewhere else, but my daughter likes this specific cello :(. We will be going elsewhere once she outgrows this size
Dorsey can get you what ever you want in the line of musical instruments and services. Excellent inventory, but seemed a bit pricey.
It was Christmas but they could use more sales people to help with questions and finding things....
The personell are knowledgeable, and go out of there way to help. Dorsy is very hands on
A good music location, especially for a small area.
Had to take my sons instrument in to be looked at. Figured out it was not repairable and the main boss was very nice and got me a great deal on the piece I needed. Will go back for sure.
Great service and great teachers
I will never give these guys business again. In my nine years of living in Idaho, Ive visited this store three times - one to see what it was like, and two after that PURELY out of necessity. The staff have always been rude, narcissistic, and degrading. If you dont like a certain brand but the associate does, he will openly say why your opinion is wrong. If you say you like another music store around town (Guitar Center), theyll question this, and practically demand that you come to their store instead. Bottom line - dont waste your time. Their prices are higher (no matter what they tell you), and their service is abominable.
Dave has been wonderful to work with. The cello setup is perfect! I had a trusted luthier in Reno and was worried I would not find a comparable luthier in the Treasure Valley. Dave exceeds my expectations every time. Thank you.Carol has been a wonderful teacher and help to us over the years. Thank you, we have many fond memories of working with you.
Feels like they prioritize by profit potential. About a year ago I asked about a new soundpost for my cello, at the suggestion of one of their staff members. They wanted to charge double what the local fiddle luthier quoted (he did a great job, quickly, and I felt good knowing that he personally did it instead of handing it off to a subordinate like Dorsey made me feel). Okay so not a huge deal. They are busy. Also since I live in Boise Im not willing to drive 35 minutes and not know if they can even take my cello and give me a reasonable turnaround because it doesnt seem feasible to have the post adjustment done even if I showed up the moment they open. Someone called me about a week later asking if I still wanted help. Too little too late. This week I asked about having my tailpiece replaced with one I already have. I wanted to speak with their most experienced cello setup person because I was thinking if they are willing to spend the time making fine adjustments to my soundpost then I would be very happy. I was recommended to speak with Dave Hoffman via a Serenata player who said he did a great job. Dave was busy so I asked if he could call me back. 4 hours later I called back and was told he got my message but left and would be back soon. 24 hours later and still no callback. It really feels like this is being shirked because a tailpiece setup is not a very high value job. Either way, its bad customer service - at least give me a call letting me know when he expects to be able to have an actual conversation.
They are always nice and helpful
We love everyone at Dorsey!! So helpful & wonderful.
We always shop at Dorsey music for all our music needs. They have an incredible inventory and always have what I need. Their staff is also very friendly. Thank you Dorsey Music!
Awesome because of the quality instruments. Not very organized though.
