I ordered the Veggie omelet with a pancake. The omelet was delicious and so was the pancake. I would go there again. The service was great!
Everyone was very kind! Food was quick and delicious! I ordered the blueberry muffin (please get it grilled) and the eggs Benedict salmon! So good!
Under staffed. Watched several people sit and walk out. Waiter, cashier and cook all the same person. Taking orders without pen/paper had to come back and ask what I wanted again. Then my bread was moldy. Try to support locals in our trips so its a chance we take but it definitely will not be a repeat.
The food was alright, nothing special. Some fries tasted like fish. It didn’t seem like their air conditioning was on. Waitress was attentive.
The staff is friendly and attentive. But this is where the good ends. The fries are overcooked and taste like fish and they charge $6 for them. The soda which they charge $2 for is served in a cup no larger than a childs sippy cup. I will say the Reuben that I got was decent even though Ive never had pastrami that had been put on the flat grill on a Reuben before. When I brought up the fries The response was they have to charge for them or they will go out of business. Maybe its time.
The food was ok. The drinks were good. It’s changed though.
I am sad to write this but I have to agree with the other recent reviewers. This used to be a solid neiborhood dinner. It seems that it has recently fallen under new management and oh boy has the quality taken a nose dive. First off the service: You can tell they are trying but they dont have any staff and they are very disorganized really not very polite. Second off the food: It is a little pricey and not at all good. I went with a friend for breakfast and both of us ended up having to choke down the food we were served. I Ordered eggs Benedict (egg whites not cooked and they used powered stop and shop brand holindais mix.) My friend ordered an omlet which came a little burnt and with toasted bread that was clearly past its expiration date. I wont be going back but I do truly hope these people can get their selves togeather because their restruant is not going to last like this.
The waitress was horrible. The food was horrible. The very expensive for average food in a diner. Would never recommend to anyone. Horrible!
New owners and the food is not worth it for the price. Ordered a simple breakfast corn beef hash and eggs and a cheese omelet. The corn beef hash was mushy, raw n gooey. The eggs were undercooked. The toast was hard and stale. Never again. I use to order here before n the food was good now im never going back. Two breakfast meals for over $22 way too much. Do not recommend this place at all. So disappointed.
Ive been here numerous times in the past, and I came back not too long ago and the food was a bit disappointing... not terrible but it could be better... Covid-19 has been brutal on business but hey, hire a bit more of staff.Hoping to come back to a better food experience 🙏
Under new management, very clean staff gracious and the food delicious 😋
Extremely disappointed. Used to be a go-to diner for years but new owners really brought this place down. Went on a Sunday morning and there was only one other table there besides us. The temp outside was in the high 80s, but it felt hotter and more humid inside. Not only did they not have the AC running but they didnt even have the overhead fans on and just kept the doors open. Seemed to be only two people working. They only gave half of our group of 5 water even though we asked for a pitcher. Food came out really slow for there only being two groups there. We all got basic breakfast food, eggs, omelets, toast and bacon. While it was not awful it was nothing special, and considerably worse than before the new ownership. Portions were also extremely small for diner food. Plus, they only gave each person one little thing of Heinz jelly (Ive never seen heinz jelly in my life, let alone been to a diner that does not leave a tray of smuckers jelly on the table, but thats besides the point). As we were finishing up we over heard the other group of costumers arguing with what seemed to be the manager about splitting the bill, which seemed odd for a diner. As we went up to pay, we asked to split the $80 bill as well. We had five people and each had over a $15 tab so its really not a strange request, especially at a diner. The owner got extremely defensive, saying we never split the bill and no other diner does that, so figure it out and pay. As we were figuring out who was going to pay the bill, the owner kept making snarky comments, saying everything correct on the bill just pay. We ended up paying and asked for an itemized receipt so we can pay back the person who fronted the bill. He showed us the tablet and said figure it out, not willing to print out an itemized receipt and expecting us to write it down or take a picture. Im so disappointed because this spot used to be a staple in the community, but theses new owners really made it awful. I dont see myself ever going back. Also, what diner closes at 7:00PM?!?!?
Surprisingly the food was hot fresh and good. The prices reasonable..The chef was also the waiter..They need to work on the grits 😋
Well, service was good. The blueberry pancakes, however, had all the blueberries in the center only, need to have a better distribution. Also, the butter seemed frozen, and entirely too much. See the picture, after Id finished, Id stacked the syrup on top of the cube of butter that I was given. That shouldnt be possible.
Great Breakfast. Came out very quickly. The Manager/Owner is quite a character. I dont get to come here often but I look forward to the times that I do.
Quick fast and prompt service. Only one guy was working that Sunday I went with family 4 people and he got the job done. Good food fair prices!!
Ordered pancakes and bacon and every bit of my order was burnt and it was completely empty. Never again ..
Me and my family came here the other night for dinner. Customer service was excellent the new manager was amazing very friendly, helpful, all around pleasant! We will definitely be back soon and will recommend it to our family and friends. Our kids love her
Pastrami special was delicious, enjoyed it very much.
Poor service gave us a menu with stuff missing out of it..Had placed an order for mozzarella stick which were not listed in the menu and when we got the bill the waiter charged $8.99 for them it’sa horrible place don’t have there menu complete bad customer service wouldn’t even give me back my money
Good diner with good service and good food.
Stopped in for a bite to eat with my husband. Atmosphere was welcoming, our meals were delicious. Service was excellent our waitress Marisa was friendly, attentive, and has a great smile! When passing through Connecticut again we will definitely stop in again!!
Was ok. I remember it being better quality and was slightly disappointed this time. Still good though.
Not a lot of staff. Good food though.
It seems like this diner is either under new management, or their standards have slipped.
Good for a homestyle kinda vibe.
Excellent costumer service. Food was delicious. Waiting time was very short. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Parking area very large and quick access to the highway.
I came for dinner with my family and the staff was exceptionally wonderful, courteous and the owner Mr. Eddie was beyond nice and sweet. My family and I went away feeling good and satisfied because besides good service and friendly staff they also had the best food ever. The Restaurant was amazingly clean which says a lot about the joint. My family would strongly recommend AMITY DINNER AT 1426 whalley ave in new haven, ct. all day longTry it and we guarantee you will love it and come back all the time like we do.
One of the best Diners I have visited. Great food. Great price and a really friendly staff. Will definitely be back again!
Ordered delivery though this diner. The food looked like wet dog food. It was cold and the driver was rude. Didn’t even look like the food described.Never order from Grub Hub with this restaurant. They issued me a refund. Nasty
Food was not that great. Wont be visiting again.
Good food, nice friendly people, followed covid 19 protocol
Good food...friendly service...reasonable prices
I gentleman working and he was very friendly and polite.
Delicious food with healthy servings! Please support this business!
This is the place to go in North Haven. Open 24 hours and had a vast menu. A great place to meet up with friends and have a good meal. The soups are wonderful and the staff is great. They are currently sprucing up the place and are still open. I cant wait to see the results of their efforts.
Decent food for a diner. Quick service. Its a little on the expensive side for diner food but I had a good experience.
Recently ate dinner at this diner after new ownership. Both my companion and I thought our food was poorly done. Each selection was either cold or basically tasteless. The wait time was fairly long for simple selections. Also the menu was basically the same as under the former owners with no imagination being used. Plus the prices were higher. Some of their dinner entrees ran about $16 to $22. Why go there at those prices? One can can have better food with a better atmosphere at more upscale restaurants at the same prices. The owners have lost sight of the original reason why such diners existed: good average food at below average prices. If the new owners can not improve their menu offerings and hold their line on prices, I dont see a bright future for this place. They shouldnt try to compete with more upscale restaurants.
Breakfast, service good. Thank you.
1st, I love diners and diner foodThey have a wide variety of dishes you cannot get at traditional restaurants. Any dish at any time of day. With that said, I really like my local amity diner. I mostly do breakfasts here. Never disappointed I perfer diner hash with eggs but this time I went with a swiss cheese omelet. Very simple but really hot the spot! Recommend this establishment
Food is overpriced & although the food was good Their prices and service are horrible!!!
Ordered food from here through Doordash. For starters, an entire item was missing from my order. I called to get it remade so I can pick it up. Wasnt even going to originally cuz the owner asked if I was, I said probably not and he hang up thinking I was. I told the owner that Im 20 minutes away from the restaurant. Because the Doordash driver was late, what I did get ended up cold so I was gonna ask him to remake that part too since I now had to drive 40 round trip minutes and couldnt eat til I got back. So I called back to ask about that and he tells me he already remade them. Was I going to ask that it be made a 3rd time? Not when he said he couldnt remake the other part of the order because they were out of stock. Most likely wasnt gonna happen. Also. Incredibly rude. Cutting me off to get upset with me when I was in the middle of saying, I was wondering... not upset or angry. When I finally tasted the food, mediocre at best, the french onion soup tasted like I just shoved a full on bullion cube in my mouth. Avoid at all costs. Spend your money somewhere with quailty
Overall the visit was good and the food was good. I had the broiled scrod be(mini dinner). Surprisingly the portion size was perfect. I couldnt finish the meal. The server was very pleasant and attentive. I would recommend this diner if you are looking for a place to have a good meal, quiet atmosphere and quick service.
I stopped in with my family while traveling through town. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. The food is basic diner style, but is well done. They have a bakery on-site and have a case full of fresh baked goodies. The GIANT chocolate chip cookie was great!
Gently the food is always good. Ive only have lunches and dinners never had breakfast there. I had a Greek salad last time I was there. It was much more dressing than I like. I should have had it on the side. Otherwise very good
I’ve only been once and I live very close. The experience was not anything to write about. I loved the old atmosphere from years before.
Great place to eat and talk with old friends. Owner and staff friendly. Variety of great food
The food was very bland, I got an order of french toast and it was just egg on bread. There were a group of four of us and only one person enjoyed their food, sadly. Also, the Turkish worker was very rude...when I went to pay for my food he kept saying a name and saying that I should know it because he helped my kind. I was very confused and repeatedly said I didnt want to guess what country he was from. He finally said he was from Turkey and the name he was saying was their presidents. I said okay and asked what he meant by my kind and he said you know that poor country in Africa. Wow so specific...he was talking about Kenya or Sudan I cant remember which one. I told him I was from America and he acted as if I couldnt have been just because Im a Black Muslim.😬
Very friendly staff, some of which have been at this location for many years and are familiar with the local crowd and the community. Ownership has changed recently and newest owners are doing a great job upgrading this old school classic diner. There are specials during the week that offer a great value. Im a big fan of the Breakfast Sampler which provides eggs, meats, and pancakes, coffee included, $9.50. Cant go wrong. Food is fast, not the best quality but appropriate for pricing. Service is good, and the old-school neon lights from back in the Athenian days are replaced by less harsh on the eyes, led lights 😉 easier on the eyes.P.S. this is no longer a 24hr diner.
Simple family owned place. Food is fresh, good quality, and made on site daily. Have always had nice service there.
Came for late dinner and closed the place. Has same menu as before as Athena Diner, but they are getting new menus.Good down home cooking. Nice place to relax and chat. Staff is very attentive and efficient but not intrusive. Food arrives quickly. The corned beef hash is great. Will definately be back regularly.
Fast, clean and easy dining. Friendly staff and breakfast at night! What else can you ask for!
Excellent food and service
Prices are pretty fair. Food is decent, pretty typical diner food. The staff is cordial, and its nice that theyre open late. We go there pretty much every time we visit CT, since theyre open late and its on our way home.
Lots of tables. Great service. Prices are reasonable. Right on Amity Road. Easy in and out.
Great food and service. 👍 Nice atmosphere. People are friendly 😁
Arrived there in the middle of another seating of a large party. Food was served and made great to order. Service was up to standards other than that it was a questionable amount of time for our check to arrive. Would go again but makes me think twice as to standard of service if going on a busy morning.
Classic diner food prepared well. Friendly attentive staff. Easy in and out parking. The Reuben and cheddar cheese omlet are just about perfect. A diner doesnt get any better than that.
Good traditional diner food at diner prices. There was one in Waterbury that we frequented often, but unfortunately it closed. Always stop here for lunch when I am anywhere near New Haven.Fast service and great staff. I miss the Waterbury location.
Under new management with a mean happy hour N different mentality and bomb pizza to go. There may ever be a guy named erok thats around that can make specialty cocktails on the fly. The cheesecakes always fresh and atmosphere is lively...AMITY DINR GUYS!!
Delicious breakfast despite computers being down and being short staffed. The corned beef hash, grilled tomatoes, hash brown and eggs were perfectly prepared.
Good relaxing atmosphere careing waitstaff. Has some top-notch, delicious burgers and sandwiches, mine was hard to beat, I would like to try them all at their reasonable prices for that quality of food! Owner stops by to check if everythings ok, this is a good diner!
Been there twice in last two weeks, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Both times, I had to send the food back for being ice cold. The mashed potatoes was so cold, the butter wouldnt even melt. Toast was cold. In addition, they got the dinner order wrong twice. The place was not even busy! On the positive side, they tried to rectify it. I will not go back here. Not worth the money.
The manager was very nice
This a great place right on the edge Whalley ave New Haven, near Woodbridge. Food was really good and the service was better than any diner I have been to.
Good diner. Pretty much the same menu as the Athenian Diner which it replaced except that it is now family run. Wait staff is more attentive
Average diner experience. Definite 80s style decor if you are into that. The waitress we had was attentive. Would eat at again.
Had breakfast there with my husband.I personally didnt like the food and the waitress didnt seems like she liked her job. Place is clean, nice street view
Tidy little diner just off The Merritt. Dont let the weathered exterior or neighborhood deter you, the food is tasty, helpings are big, and price is very reasonable. We had a late breakfast - pancakes, cornbread muffin, eggs, and bacon all two thumbs up - and other lunch/brunch dishes looked appealing also.
It is now The Amity Diner. Very clean, good proportions. Cathy our waitress was very friendly and professional. There was a busman who came and took my plates away quickly after I had stacked and put them at the edge of my table, very respectful too. Was there today 11/10/18 about 1pm.
Good place as always good food
The food does not taste the same as previous owners. Food is not tasty at all. Cold environment. A friend and I went today for lunch and didnt like our food. She was charged nothing for her food and I was charged partially....$11.15 for a glass of wine and a salad that was a part of the meal that I didnt eat. Wont ever go there again and will let my friends know not to go here either.
Bad! Went there today 12/18 at peak lunch time. Place was dead yet it took over 10 minutes for waitress to take our order. Both of us got the pastrami on rye which had been excellent with previous owners. No longer the case now. Pastrami was very scare, thick cut and veiny. Used to go often and it was always good, no more.
Grand opening this summer. Under new management. The service was mediocre, with not-so-great tasting food. The prices, on the other hand, is just like other diners Ive been to. price/performance wise, Id wait for a few months to try there again. Maybe theyll fix their problems by then.
Home cooked food away from home. Breakfast, burgers, cakes, and Greek specialties excel here. Always fresh. Great service. Reasonable prices.
Its a real dinner. Good wait staff and just about anything you want to ear. The desserts are sooo good. Prices reasonable. Worth the drive.
Nice and steady. Usually reliable. Interesting specials. That are always the same. So are they really specials then?
I love this place. Its a place where my wife and I can sit and talk and eat. Its our own little getaway. Did I mention great food and service?
The food was tasteles, while the waitress was attentive the manager was almost rude. No one ever even asked if everything was ok. The dinner in Hamden 2 exits down the parkway is far better
Dont get the Fish n Chips!!!
It would be great if reviewers would include the time of day they were at the diner and be specific about food they ordered and were dissatisfied with. This would help potential customers.I was at the diner on Wednesday, 11/6/2019, late afternoon. There were two other people there. One section was being dusted and washed so no seating to the left. Plenty of room to the right. The new owner, who is usually at the check out counter unless he is sitting and chatting with a buddy, seems to call women, darling. Id rather this not be part of his interaction with women customers.I ordered grape leaves appetizer and rice pudding, no whip cream. As usual, just as I was sitting down a glass of water with ice was placed on the table. The two servers who were there were not the same ones who used to be there. I was promptly asked by an older woman who provided friendly and efficient service what I would like to order. Since she had no other customer this could be expected. . The grape leaves appetizer had 6 grape leaves stuffed with rice, chopped iceberg lettuce, a few slices of tasteless tomato, two slices of lemon, and a few slices of white onion. Thats it. Boring! Overpriced. My rice pudding was, accidentally, larger that usual. I do not recommend it and I told the owner when paying my bill. If you dont like cinnamon or a lot of cinnamon do NOT order the pudding. Large amount of cinnamon. The texture was not smooth and creamy and I couldnt make out what the liquid was that the rice was in. It didnt taste like milk. And the rice was not well cooked. It was al dente, crunchy.I have eaten at this place for many years. I hope the owners do read the reviews.
Its okay. I believe the place recently switched owners, and the food is not as good as it used to be. Its alright though. Its opened late and you can get anything you want at almost any time. Really thats the only reason to go to the diner anyway.
It is a good place to take Family.
Always great food and customer service
Kids love this diner. They are always able to seat a large group. Prompt, friendly service. Generous portions. Rueben is stacked with meat. Downside... marinara sauce on eggplant and chicken parm is bland, lacking in seasoning. But overall, am always satisfied when I leave.
Delightful! The staff were friendly and quick, the food was good, and the atmosphere was incredibly pleasant. Absolutely my new regular spot.
DONT GO TO AMITY DINER ITS GARBAGE!!!My girl and i had breakfast and coffee for 30 bucks cause u get one refill...charged $8 in coffee and everyoned order was wrong while i was there including mine do
The food was good and the staff was nice.
I would like to apply for a part time dishwashing position so I hope I made a good first impression!
I have been having breakfast there for a number of years. I enjoyed. Nice atmosphere
Service was so bad, I toss it up to new manament and then again most of the staff is the same, so NO excuses needed. Food was cold, items were missing... I liked the old Dinner a lot better.
Delicious dinner, great service, good value, will be back!
Good, Friendly service. Food quality not as good as last visit 6 months before. New management?
Very good place to eat
Just had breakfast but food was very good and very reasonable. Good portions and service was great.
