What a great start to my Saturday! I needed a nice little place to pass some time while my son was at basketball practice in NN. I stoped by Canvas for coffee and to catch up on some paperwork. What a nice, quaint warm and welcoming coffee house. I was warmly greeted offered suggestions and treated like a very welcomed guest. I loved everything about my whole experience. Love their whole bean coffee - it became my go-to for brewing at home during the pandemic. They also have a comfortable atmosphere inside and well as some outdoor seating, and the staff are great!The one time (so far!) that Ive ordered a drink I got an iced dirty chai, which was perfect for a hot afternoon.

Still good, even after all the 2020-2021 (and ongoing) madness.- Employees are always very nice, accommodating, knowledgable in their drinks, and friendly.- Consistent and great quality. They roast their own coffee and offer a variety of teas (sourced).- Dairy free options are available- Relaxed and open environment/ambianceNot much has changed (which is a good thing) except they have seasonal, themed drinks. All have been hits so far. Check them out!

This place is a very good find. The cake was the most flavorful cake Ive had recently. The coffee, any review would be an understatement, tastiest to say the least. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.

Everytime I come here, its just wonderful. Its a cozy environment that you can catch up with a friend or do some homework.

Their coffee is simply amazing. They have many unique flavors, as well. It reminds me of the kind of coffee you get from the bigger cities like Denver or Seattle. Staff are always friendly and the atmosphere has a very chill, yet sophisticated vibe.

Stopped into this casual, quaint coffee house early Wed am, 9 ish. One of the owners, Alex was very helpful in making my selection, since I wasnt sure what I wanted. While chatting, I discovered they are also Roasters and have several blends and single origin coffees for sale.I purchased a suggested drink and a bag of Costa Rican single origin that I have yet to try. Very happy with drink, well made, delicious. Sat outside at a bistro table so to call my Mom and drink coffee. A most pleasant experience. Will get back to you on the single origin purchase. Dont miss this little gem. Bring your laptop/ bring a friend/ or just yourself for a laid back comfortable time.

05/16/21 EDIT: After several months going to Canvas I must add a caveat to my review. Canvas lacks personality. When the music stops it feels like a cold, barren, library stack that serves mediocre coffee. Depending on who is working, they put in little effort to know who their regulars are let alone engage in friendly conversation. Canvas aims to build a community around coffee, unfortunately the gritty debris found at the bottom of every espresso drink reflects the experience of this consumer.NOTE TO THE OWENERS: Embrace the what you love about your favorite communities and have it reflected in your outward company experience. Also get the grit out of your drinks.Local coffee shops play an important part in bringing a community together and it seems that Canvas is no exception. Plan on being able to comfortably sit and enjoy one of their fantasic espresso drinks, hit tea, or drip coffee while listening to a pretty epic music selection.A few negatives in my opinion are that they have a limited food and pastry selection and no other drinks are offered other than tea and coffee. I would love see the addition of canned seltzers or other like beverages.Canvas is definitely worth a stop if youre in NN and is a great addition to the local community.

Finally a nearby gourmet coffee location. If you are looking for your super sugar, super caramel, creamsicle iced latte then this is not the place! Here you can get a smooth cappuccino, a yummy iced matcha, or another classic coffee. Loved it here so much, so accessible!

As the afternoon errands ran longer than expected, we decided a good cappuccino was in order but we knew we wanted it from a local coffee shop rather than a chain. We found Canvas online and although it was a bit out of our way, we were NOT disappointed. Not only are we STILL remarking on the delicious flavor (I got a double cappuccino made breve and my fiancé got a latte) we were super impressed with how CLEAN everything was and how expertly our barista performed her job, wiping and cleaning after every step. I loved that the coffee beans were ground to order, which guaranteed a better taste. I wish we lived closer - we’d be here every day…

I really appreciate the menu here. Stuff no one else is doing locally. They offer Gluten-Free snacks. But the pound cake (glutenous) is transcendent. No joke.

This is one of the best places to get coffee in the area. The coffee was full flavor and strong which I appreciate. The staff was always really nice and the wifi is legit!!I was visiting the area for work and the hotel had super slow wifi with no option to Pat for better. So I would come here in the mornings and do my admin work. Great place and will definitely come back when in town.

Canvas has a special place in my heart. We first heard of it opening when my wife and I visited the space that was still the previous shop before Canvas, and Daniel (current owner of Canvas) was there. The old shop had left the space and left a few pieces of coffee equipment, and even then Daniel was serving the first cup of coffee. He told us how it would be under renovations the next day, and what Canvas would be: a coffee shop, a space for community, and a space for local artists. Canvas has achieved that goal and has become a cornerstone to the community in Newport News. The staff is always friendly, the coffee always good, and the vibe is ever excellent. There is no question: this is THE place to have coffee on the peninsula 🔥🔥

Sublime Surprise: At first I could not tell if this was another pretentious cafe. However, just 2 minutes in the shop I realized that this coffee shop had the goods.We ordered a Costs Rican pour over. 🇨🇷☕Instead of being the typical (too) light roast, it was an even an smooth blend. It happened to go exactly with our Almond Joy pound cakeThe pound cakes came out warm and fluffy impaired perfectly with our coffees.The so was minimalist, but that was because the focus was so obviously on the care of coffee.The Hedgehog 🦔after seeing the hedgehog on the menu, I was certain to get a sugar rush. Instead of it being over sugary, however, it came through as a balanced mocha chocolatey hazelnut coffee drink. It was not too sweet, but warm and welcoming.

This coffee house means a lot to me. Whenever I have an hour or two to kill I end up here. The atmosphere is peaceful and lends itself to easy collaboration with other people in the community. Everyone on staff is friendly and helpful. The coffee is top-notch. There isn’t much else you can ask for from a coffee place, and I am very thankful for this little corner of NN.

Went in for the first time yesterday and could not be more happy! Beyond the super friendly staff the quality of their coffee is top tier. Had a cortado and a chemix, both were fantastic and well made.Its a 40 min drive for me from Virginia Beach, but I will be back without a second thought!

You must, must, must come to this coffee house! I do not have a sophisticated pallet and am a little hesitant to try a new coffee place because of my very small amount of knowledge. However, they were so helpful and friendly! They explained everything in a clear way that I could understand and even helped me pick out a coffee that I really liked! (Try the hedgehog💞) I felt like I was in a friends living room. They even came over to my table and offered me a glass of water. The decor is simple, metro style and it’s super clean. Management obviously knows what they are doing. The staff is well trained and the menu is very nice. Looking forward to my next visit.

Best coffee I’ve ever had. My parents call themselves “coffee snobs” and absolutely rave about how much they love the beans Canvas roasts. This place not only KNOWS good coffee, but also has a great atmosphere. Going to canvas is usually the highlight of my day! My recommendation: try an oat milk latte and the pound cake!

I have been to this gem of a coffee shop just three times, but it is consistently delicious. This last time I went, I got a cinnamon raisin bagel with apple butter, and IT WAS SO AMAZING! As far as coffee, I have tried their Hedgehog, cappuccino, and latte. They are all very good and have a smooth coffee flavor! The workers here are lovely to talk to and so kind! Also, a great place to go to get some work done (free wifi) or just to talk with friends!

Was so excited to try this place but your workers were so rude. Terrible customer service in response to our drink order. They acted extraordinarily stuck up and arrogant. They could have responded in a nicer way. We were new to the establishment so sorry for so many questions. We wont come again.

Love this place and the community they have built. I feel like when I walk in, my mood is instantly lighter and more relaxed.

This place is great. I had a cappuccino, which was made with care and and had great art (I didnt get the baristas name who served me but she knows what shes doing). She was also knowledgeable about the different types of coffee they have and how to brew/serve each. She made an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe espresso for me upon request and it was fantastic. Ive been trying to find different coffee places since I started roasting my own back a few months ago and have been happy to find a decent handful of good cafes in this area. This is definitely one of the best ones; youre foolish not to stop in and give their coffee a try if your in the area and care about the quality of your coffee.

Losing count of the times I visited Canvas Coffee at this point... The atmosphere is great, the coffee is great, and the muffins are amazing. The service is always fast and friendly. Even with the store getting as busy as it is now, I still havent had to wait long at all.The two owners are often working front of the house which gives a personal touch to the place. Theyre also great at making coffee! I recommend trying the hedgehog or their mocha. Cant wait to see what else Canvas Coffee has planned!

Local coffee house that you definitely need to try out and then you will be hooked. Tucked away in Port Warwick - this coffee house offers a space to conduct business, just hang out or slip in for a quick drink to go. Their coffees and teas are amazing and everyone is super helpful if you dont know what you want.

A descent coffee shop. The owner is friendly. The atmosphere is not quite as welcoming as Aromas. I think it would be better if the walls were light green and brown so that they would more closely match the earthy artistic motif along the right wall. Also, the comfy chair hurt my tail bone after sitting in it for about 90 minutes. I honestly like the music better at Aromas as well. Im not a fan of todays pop and too much of that element was played there. That said, I would go back. I enjoy supporting locally-owned businesses when I can and would encourage others to do the same. Their prices are very reasonable. As a relatively new business, I hope they do well.

Nice space to grab a coffee with a friend. Try their specialty coffee, the hedgehog. Im addicted to them! They roast their own coffee beans in house, and their coffee is delicious.

Great community atmosphere supported by expertly brewed specialty coffee. The owner (and staff) has a refreshing respect for the art and science of coffee brewing and it shows on their menu that does not rely on sugary syrups for an enjoyable cup of joe. It is my new favorite coffee shop in town!

Canvas is an incredible third wave shop with some of the highest quality coffee around, passionate baristas who care about what they do and create an experience that makes you want to keep coming back. The owners and staff are 10/10, menu is 🔥, AND THEYRE ROASTING COFFEE NOW!!I love their pour overs and have never had coffee there that wasn’t freaking awesome. This is exactly what the Peninsula has been desperately needing. A beautifully decorated, clean space with great coffee and an incredibly welcoming and friendly staff. I cannot wait to see how this brand blossoms and transforms the community.

Drank the coffee to fast to snap a pic, but great place. The owners are great and are all about the coffee. Its amazing to have a legit coffee shop back in NN again. This spot used to host a boutique and coffee shop, but it is now all coffee. The have good pastries as well, and Id recommend any of the pound cakes. Pourovers and Hedgehog are my favorite drinks right now, but they will start switching out blends in the future. Cant wait to see what they features.
