Delicious cupcakes! They have so many yummy flavors, just enough frosting, and even gluten-free available on Fridays and Saturdays. We placed a large order for my husbands promotion, and they were a hit!

But did you know they have ice cream and puppy cupcakes!!! This place Rocks! Friendly service, clean and the treats are delicious!

Always wanted to try their cupcakes when I lived here but never had the chance until last night for my birthday. It was worth the wait but I wish I hadnt waited!! We had the sundae, almond, birthday cake and red velvet cupcakes. They were all so moist they almost melted in my mouth and the flavors were fantastic! Definitely going back before I fly home!!

Absolutely fantastic cupcake place. I go here all the time for their cupcakes so when a friend’s birthday was coming up they were the first place that popped into my head. The resulting cake was wonderful. They did everything off a picture for a fair price.Let’s just say the cake didn’t last more than a couple hours at the party. Things here are a little pricey... but you get what you pay for and it’s definitely worth it.I would wholeheartedly recommend for all occasions.

I called for mini cupcakes for my sons birthday. They were just the ones on the shelves. I barely left the store and realized they were just TOO SMALL. They are SAMPLE cakes. They wouldn’t accept them back. Just know that their mini cupcakes are incredibly tiny and very expensive. I wouldn’t be coming back

These are really good cupcakes. They dont put the extra icing on the middle of the cupcake like most fancy cupcake places do. That is good, because it is a better balanced flavor and texture. They also have home made ice cream, which is the main reason I will be back. I was there for office lunch dessert, but will take my little ones there for sure.

The chocolate cupcake was rich. Vanilla cupcake was very moist. The icing was pretty yummy too. I removed one star because I felt like the icing on the Cookies & Creme could’ve been more distinct ... It tasted too similar to the regular Chocolate. I also wish they had some of the Red Velvet in stock

I love these cupcakes tried another local place and was disappointed tried Small cakes and was shocked at how moist, fresh and natural tasting the cupcakes are pleasing to my tastebuds. I can see the vanilla bean in the coconut cupcakes. Yes I love natural ingredients. My favorites are Wedding cake and coconut. My only complaint is I feel they should put more buttercream icing on the coconut cupcake and they should have carrot cupcakes everyday instead of just Wednesdays. Also the cupcakes are big. I love smallcakes .

I really wish I could say I liked the cupcakes I bought. The shop was clean and smelled great, and the staffer who helped me was polite and friendly.I ordered a lemon, a Boston cream, and a red velvet. I asked if the red velvet was made with cream cheese, and she said yes. I questioned this a bit, since they were kept out on display at room temperature.My husband said the lemon was ok. I cant say for myself, as I dont like lemon and didnt try it. The Boston cream was mediocre. The cake itself was good, but the frosting and filling was not. Im a home baker myself, and having made buttercream several times, I have doubts that there is much, if any, real butter in the buttercream frosting. It tastes like its made with shortening - no flavor, no depth. The cream tasted like whats inside of a SnoBall or a Twinkie.The red velvet was the real disappointment. I LOVE cream cheese frosting, and at best, this tasted like the one in a resealable can in the baking aisle. Again, the cake was good, but I was so disappointed by the frosting that it just wasnt enough to save the experience.For the prices you pay per cupcake, I really wish it had tasted homemade all around.

I ordered a dozen jumbo and a dozen minis for a baby shower out of town (one state away). The cupcakes were a big hit, everyone loved them and even though they were technically a day old after traveling they were still incredibly soft and delicious. I will definitely do custom orders again in the future. NOTE: The Jumbos do travel better then the minis due to the packaging.

Id highly recommend steering clear of this business for any events. Our friends wedding was nearly ruined when they opened the boxes the morning of, with several cupcakes toppled over and icing all over the box.The worst part was our experience when we called the owner asking for help. Long story short, we were told by the owner that he had a lot of experience with weddings and there are always leftovers.He also told us that they werent responsible for the product after it left their shop. While my friend didnt expect a miracle, they did expect a modicum of respect and remorse, especially by the owner. Weddings are one of the most important events in someones life, so to shrug this off with blatant disregard is a case study in how NOT to handle customer relations.Suffice it to say, we will never set foot in this business again. I cant comment on the taste of the cakes, as the taste the owner left in our mouths spoiled our appetites.

We were excited to try cupcakes. We were doing a mini cake testing for fun to prepare for a wedding and we bought 6 diffent flavors we thought we would enjoy. Of the 6 only two were enjoyable and the other ones were all wrong: strawberry didnt taste like strawberry. Coconut icing one had good icing but the cup cake was bland and flavorless, almost as if it was one of those cake boxes that uses corn starch as a main ingredient. The oreo/ cookies and cream one was extremely disappointing. Instead of it being a black coco based cake it was vanilla dyed black. And the boston cream almost made me throw up. The almond flavored wedding cake one was enjoyable and so was the peanut butter one. If you have allergies to nuts your out of luck on their edible cupcakes. I feel like I spent $16 on garbage. And the two good ones were pure luck. I would have done better to buy a box or cupcakes from the store. Or single one for a dollar at a bakery in a grocery store.

Such wonderful customer service! I live in Oregon and Sabrina helped me set up a great surprise for my step dad in York town. Goes out of her way to ensure customer satisfaction. Couldn’t recommend more!!!

Ive been going to this business for my cupcake needs for years. The cupcakes are always fresh and delicious. They have many varieties and wonderful specials every day. I love supporting them as I heard this location, at least, was owned by former military and I am a military daughter, wife and mother.Yesterday, I was disappointed. I went in not long after they opened; obeying posted mask rules. The manager was behind the counter dealing with a connectivity issue. No mask, no gloves. No other employees were visible but I heard more working in the back. I asked to order 4 cupcakes. He did not put gloves or a mask on when putting the order together but I decided to not make a big deal. I have not confronted anyone about masks since the beginning of the pandemic; I do the right thing and avoid others, minding my own business. We have not been here in about a year due to eating low carb and I was looking forward to surprising my family with cupcakes. I gave him my credit card and he remarked that the system was still slow and he may have to reboot again. Then he did something that made me cringe...he put his ungloved hand on his face across his mouth and nose, in thought and annoyance. Then he grabbed my credit card again to slide it in the machine. I was unsure for a second about what to do or say then he put his hand on his face again. I realized I had to say something so I told him to just cancel the order. I made a comment about him not wearing a mask or gloves and touching his face while handling my order. He looked at me very surprised as if I was the one doing something wrong, shook his head and said he wasnt going to argue. Then he told me he had a 103 fever for over 2 weeks and didnt need to be told about Covid. I said, I am a stranger, how could I possibly know that. You have a sign asking all customers to wear a mask and there are protocols for businesses to follow to keep everyone safe that you should be following as well. He shook his head at me again and I just left.The rules are there for a reason. We want all businesses to stay open but if they arent following safe practices to help us all feel secure, then we are not going to use your business and will instead choose someone who does put safety first. It breaks my heart to give this business a bad review and to know I will never go there again but that is how I feel now.

My husband and I went into Small cakes for the for the first time ever. As we were having a day out date. Its a cute establishment lots of room in the store but not too much to choose from as far as cupcakes there were no tables or chairs to sit down at no coffee, soda, or water offered. Lady behind the counter was very nice. We ordered a few cupcakes to take home (cant sit and enjoy each others company as we had hoped) I ordered a Boston Cream cupcake, it was heavy so I couldnt wait to try it out and get to the custard filling. But to my surprise there was no custard filling, it was a yellow cake with a huge amount of ganache topping (which is where the heaviness came from) on top of that was a tiny amount (a tiny star shape 1/2 tsp) of whipped topping and custard filling. I was so disappointed, as this did not taste nothing like boston cream (my favorite flavor). What I got was a yellow cake with a large amount of ganache topping. I gave it 3 stars as the lady was extremely nice, but there was no place to sit and enjoy our cake, no water, coffee etc. and very limited variety.

I’ve been 2 times and I think they’re okay, some are better than others. The inside is super cute and the cupcakes always look so pretty. The 2 times I went the cashiers didn’t seem engaging or happy, kinda felt like a bother.. Tried to get recommendation on a cupcake because the one I wanted they did not have and she just said “I don’t know” and was super quiet, kinda felt awkward.. Only negative kinda thing I could say is the cupcakes aren’t all that, to me. I don’t want to seem rude or anything but I’ve gotten a dozen cupcakes that were better and did not cost much more for a single one you get here. I think $4 for a nice size and yummy cupcake is not bad but it needs to be a litttttle better in my opinion. Couldn’t even eat the icing, too sweet and taste like icing you get on a Walmart cupcake.

First time trying this place and was very disappointed. Ordered a birthday cake for my son, and I believe this is the dullest and most boring birthday cake I have ever seen offered to purchase for such an occasion! They were even skimpy on the sprinkled for goodness sake! We paid almost $80 for it. To be fair, I only gave 24hr notice but my goodness! My 11 son probably couldve done this himself. The chocolate doesnt look like chocolate at all. I provided pictures for review and comparison. I got half and half because I prefer vanilla and my husband and son chocolate. They didnt like the taste either. I only gave two stars because at least my preferred side was tasty enough. Called to speak to the manager/owner but we kept missing each other...surprise surprise. Suffice it to say, I would not recommend this company.

Only ordered from them once, but it was a great experience. I cannot remember the name of the man who took my order over the phone but he was very nice, funny and professional. I ordered 2 dozen mini cupcakes for my sisters gender reveal. The icing was a perfect blue color, we got half chocolate and half vanilla. Cupcakes were actually a little bigger than what I expected for mini cupcakes, which was nice. Everyone loved them, cake was nice and moist, not too dense. I will probably be ordering from them again for her baby shower

The cupcakes are good but the service I got today was eh. It was two people in front of me. One being helped and the other waiting in line like me. Another person came out to help the second person in line. Then I was next and the lady didn’t even ask if she could help me, I had to walk up to the counter. It was one lady behind me in line at that point. The lady who was working seemed intimidated by me or something. She told me how much the cupcake would cost. Then put it in a box, when I was planning on eating inside. I didn’t eat inside because it was awkward for her to not ask if I was eating inside or not. then helped the lady behind me.

We have enjoyed cupcakes here on several occasions and have always enjoyed ourselves. However, today’s service was quite questionable. My husband and I took our two young daughters to enjoy a dessert at 1230. The gentleman at the counter said, I’m going to put these in a to-go box. I responded “okay” assuming they were running low on dishes. Nope. The man stated he needed us to leave so he could “mop the floors.” I looked at him and said “We really wanted to enjoy the cupcakes here” to which he responded “Well, I need to mop.” Unsure why customers need to leave in order for a shop to perform routine cleaning but that’s what we did. Very disappointed in the customer service by the man. Have always enjoyed our visits but today was the exception.

I went to Smallcakes today with a friend. I decided to try the birthday cupcake and I was disappointed. The cake itself was delicious ; however, the cashier told me that the frosting was buttercream. Instead, I discovered that it was plain vanilla whipped frosting as I ate it. I think it’s horrible that the employees don’t know the specific type of cupcakes in the bakery. They need more training.

For a cupcake business, they are not kid-friendly! I have come to this establishment on quite a few occasions and actually would go as a treat after my autistic son got his haircut next door. I went today on a Wednesday, and there were no other customers in the establishment at the moment. I had the pleasure of meeting I assume the owner... and which he stated they did not have room for kids to play. Sir, what you dont understand as a Special Needs Mom, we are made to not feel welcome to a lot of places due to my sons atypical behaviors. And honestly my son was being a kid playing with his fire truck he had just earned for getting a haircut and not having a meltdown. I understand you have a business to run, but he was not hurting anything and there was no one else in the building at the time besides yourself. Thank you for ruining special occasion for me and my kids! I will never come back! For a cupcake company, you would think that kids would be your biggest Market! I am disappointed at the customer service I experienced here today...

Sadly I write this review because we’ve purchased from this place before, for our daughters birthday, and it was great. This time around, we wanted to get smash cakes made for our twin boys 1st birthdays. We’ve purchased a cake from this place for our daughter for her birthday. My wife asked about getting two cakes and the worker said that they do not make cakes. After noticing the puzzled look on my wife’s face (because we’ve ordered a cake before), she went and consulted with someone in the back and said, “yeah, we don’t make cakes, we have too many other orders.” Amazing.First off, they’ve made a cake before. We’ve purchased it. Secondly, even if you are swamped, just seem like poor business to air your issues to the customer. Especially as an excuse of why you can’t provide a service that you’ve provided in the past.Sad, because we really liked the cake that we had before. Seems like a trend at this place, as you read the reviews, is poor customer service. I guess if you’re swamped, good customer service is not needed.

This is a great place to take a girl on a first date. Really really cute interior. Homemade ice cream, homemade cakes. A bit pricey but if the quality is there and you want a cupcake I dont mind paying a little bit more for great you know? Extra points for being a local small business.

My husband and I went to Smallcakes on yesterday and we were very impressed. He tried the birthday cake and red velvet cupcakes. He said the cakes were moist and icing was delicious. I tried the wedding cake and Boston cream and they were both superb. I was wanting something fallish and I would have tried the pumpkin one but Im not a fan of cookies and cream icing..Maybe Ill do a custom order next time but over this place was amazing!

Just a tourist driving through town. I got the vanilla chocolate cupcake. The cupcake itself was super moist and delicious. You could see the vanilla beans. And the vanilla flavor truly stood out and was strong and amazing. Unfortunately, the chocolate icing was less than spectacular simply because it got lost in all the vanilla. Super cute shop, though. And seriously, very moist vanilla cake.

Their cupcakes are so moist and tasty! They are on the pricier side, but totally worth it. The store is very nicely decorated. The menu sign is kinda in an odd place for figuring out the price, but not a big deal. I love that I can also get my pups pup cakes for their birthdays. I havent gotten to try their homemade ice cream yet but Im sure its every bit as phenomenal as their cupcakes.

APPALLING CUSTOMER SERVICE!Prior to leaving the comfort of my own home, I called the Smallcakes establishment to question if they offered gluten free cupcakes. To my excitement, the lady on the phone, Olivia, said they did have gluten free options. Having a tremendous craving for some cupcakes, I left 35 minutes before closing, and their business was 30 minutes away.In an attempt to not inconvenience their staff, I called again when I was about 10 minutes out to ask if it was okay if I arrived right upon closing. Olivia said it was okay, and that they were expecting my arrival.Right upon 8, which is when they close, I arrived at their location. However, their doors were locked! I peered into the building and saw two employees sitting at the counter on their cell phones! I tapped on the glass to receive their attention. They merely looked up from their phones and shook their heads at me. I pointed to my phone to reference that I called them, yet they still remained unresponsive, on their cell phones.Unfortunately, I drove 30 minutes out to their location only to receive no cupcakes, and TERRIBLE customer service. 10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!!!

I live very close - TOO CLOSE - to Smallcakes! Sometimes I manage to stay away a few days (my waistline needs it) but there are times Ive been in two to three days straight! The cupcakes are always fantastic, especially the wedding cake and strawberry, and theyve had some great ice cream flavors. The wedding cake ice cream is DIVINE! This is usually the reason I go several times per week, when they have this one on hand. Theyre just a bit pricey but this is a weakness, a splurge spot for me. Try it out you wont be disappointed with their sweet treats :)

Had Dave and his bakers make up cupcakes for my wifes office staff. The cupcakes was fabulous according to the feedback from my wife. I personally stop by from time to time to sneak me a couple of those tasty morsels. Recommend Smallcakes highly.

This is a neat little shop offering cupcakes and icecream in a fun, friendly atmosphere. The problem is that the cupcakes are just ok, not absolutely amazing as I would expect from a place specializing in cupcakes and charging $3.50 each.

The 2 young girls working up front need a lot of training in customer service and appreciation! I explained that I was here to buy a half dozen different cupcakes and that I was trying them for the first time. I was planning on buying 4 dozen the following week for my co-workers for Christmas. So basically I was on a taste test. They were not helpful in explaining what kind they were, which were the reg. Cakes and which were daily specialty cakes. It didnt seem to matter if I came back. When I got them home, they came out of the tray holes and were all mixed up. They tasted OK, but the icings were like pure sugar! Needless to say, mostly because of customer service, or lack thereof, I will take my business over to Hampton.

Will never do business with Small Cakes ever again! Purchased a birthday cake and gave specific instructions over the phone as to what I wanted on the cake as well as that I wanted Happy Birthday written on the cake. When i arrived, they only wrote my name on it and not what i asked. They brushed me off without offering a resolution. The girlclosed the cake box while i was talking as if she didnt care. Then told me the bakers were gone and nothing they could do. Super unprofessional and terrible customer sernice. So they didnt understand even after calling to verify my order. Never again!!!!To add to your response, I called the staff at the Williamsburg location due to your staff at the Newport News location being very dismissive of my concens with the cake. Instead of your staff being accommodating of my concerns when I called the Williamsburg location, she continued to deflect from the issue and concern. Yes the cake was picked up later than stated however; it was still picked up within the business hours of your establishment. Your cake decorator left early and I was told that by your staff. That should not matter whether or not she was there or not. Its about the experience and interaction from staff. Your staff continued to argue with me me and not provide any form of resolution after talking with them twice on the phone or the Williamsburg location (i have screenshots) prior to use losing connection. I shouldnt have to spend 20 mins and numerous phone calls on something like this! This whole situation was handled inappropriately and my opinion remains the same!!!!!

Website advertises that they do gluten free/dairy free cupcakes but don’t always have them available every day. I went in because those are my two food intolerances. I asked the woman if they had any available and was shown to a section. The little sign only said gf so I verified that they were also df as that was what I had asked in the beginning. She said no so I said ok but you do df as well as gf? She said no. I said oh on the website it says you do and was just told no again. I don’t expect anyone to have to accommodate my food intolerances because not everyone has them but I do expect that when a website boasts something that they would have it. I would’ve at least liked a nicer explanation as she did seem rude about it. Otherwise the place seemed very clean and smelled really good.

I am an official addict to Small Cakes since visiting them in Williamsburg! Family Loves and we will be there biggest devoted fans ever, bye far the best cupcakes EVER!!

So Ill start off as to why I gave two stars. I gave two stars because of the cupcakes themselves. The frosting tastes much like frosting you would find at Wal-Mart. It is beautifully displayed but extremely sugary and all around just not nearly as appealing as the way it looks. The second reason I gave a two; the cupcakes were sub-par around. For a shop that specializes in cupcakes I thoroughly expected the cupcakes to be awesome, but they fell very short. The cupcakes are standard cupcake prices, 3.50 a piece. The decor is decent its like a farmhouse ice cream shop. The employees are kinda meh, I have only come in twice but I feel uncomfortable talking to them as if Im inconveniencing them somehow. Overall, the shop isnt too bad but I gave it two stars because its main product was basically an expensive grocery store bakery cupcake.

I like it. many ice cream flavors.
