Very well priced, and the quality of work is outstanding. Doesnt make up jobs that dont need to be done unlike most chain garages (Firestone and the like). Very honest, polite, and professional. All work is that needs to be done is presented to the vehicle owner before the work starts.

I wish I could give zero stars. Misdiagnosed my car and quoted almost 2k to fix it. I did all the work myself including the parts they didnt think were necessary for under $500 and less than 6 hours of work without the perks and tools of an auto shop. Keep away. After replacing what they said was needed it turned out I was right about what it needed. They didnt listen to me about the issues and tried to take credit for things I resolved before bringing it in at referral of a family member. Maybe others have good experience here but they failed in my book...

J&D is a class act. They have never tried to upsell or get me to do more by using the usual tactics when a woman brings a car in for service. Penny is always kind and professional when handling customers, and the work we have had done over the years has helped us keep our college students car safe. You wont be sorry you chose them, and yes, they are busy - thats a good thing and worth the wait.

If youre uncertain and worried about mechanics, these are the people to see. If they say it needs fixing, it does. If theres a part they say you need, its actually that part. Fair warning, they do get very busy sometimes (thats what happens when people find a good shop) but theyve always been courteous, professional, and trustworthy. Ill take my car in for anything they can do as long as they are open.

I personally did not use their service but I can comment on the upstanding character of the people that work there. My vehicle was stranded 500m from their business and I called AAA to help me tow to my garage. After waiting for an hour AAA did not come and Nick drove by and he lent me his cellphone to dial them again. Real lifesaver, real cool people. Ill never forget it.

Nick the mechanic is one of the most honest mechanics Ive taken my car to. I thought there was major work to be done but ended up leaving with an oil change. He said the brakes and shocks had more life on them and I could save my money for a later time. Other mechanics would have me get everything changed.The receptionist was very kind and knowledgeable as well.And the dog! Such a sweet dog.

The service group was very thorough in determining what was wrong with my van and the costs involved to make it road worthy. The costs projected would cost more than the blue book value of the vehicle. I was very appreciative of their candor and not letting me get in over my head with something that would be a mistake later on. This shop tells it like it is, very honest and well worth the effort to take care of your vehicle. My son recommended them due to great work they did on his truck.

I was able to get my front brakes as well as my rotors done within a day and for a really reasonable shop. They did not try to do additional services or work that didn’t need to be done - loved their honesty and how well they took care of my Jeep! Will definitely be bringing all our cars here! Plus, Tessa is the cutest shop dog!!

This is that place. Very honest, and straight forward. Not trying to sell you some super special coolant that promises to make your car ride like its new again.These guys are GREAT, called me a couple days later just to see if I was happy, and found a couple little issues with my truck when they had it up on the hoist (none of which were things they stood to make any extra money off of, honestly just for my knowledge.)I will definitely be taking my vehicles back to J & D Auto Service when they need any work done. Incredibly honest shop with very competitive/reasonable prices. My husband and I had a rather terrible experience with the local GM Dealership and brought my sputtering Malibu to Don. He diagnosed the issue quickly and did not push any other service issues on us - he diagnosed the exact concern and fixed just that. The technician Nick, the owner Don and the receptionist Penny are all incredibly kind, knowledgeable and honest individuals. I would recommend them to everyone - local or outside the Ferndale area. We will be bringing our vehicles to them and them alone from now on.

I have known Don, one of the owners, for 6 years. He is a stand up guy and a staunch supporter in both time and money in our community. I have been taking my cars to him for three years, he is very thorough, explains everything that needs to be done, and explains what needs to be done now and what can wait. I have been very happy with the service that his shop has done and would recommend him highly. Within our community he is well known and very much appreciated for both his service to the community and to our vehicles.

First Rate

I have taken my car there 3 times over the last year. Everyone there is honest and knowledgeable. They also have never tried to make me get more work done than what was needed. The one issue I have had 2 of the 3 visits is they didn’t even look at my car until 3-4 days after I brought it in. Also they don’t warn me when I dropped it off that it might be a long wait before they can look at my car. So if you need an honest and skilled mechanic and don’t need your car back for a long time this is the place for you.

Its rare to find an honest and reliable mechanic. Am glad to have used them for a recent repair. Hadnt been in a few years, but was glad to receive the same great service as I have in the past!

Excellence breeds loyalty! Since 1997 (and I was in Louisiana before), I have entrusted my 2 Toyota Corollas to J & D. Jerry and Don (and the 2 newer fellows) are true professionals. They evaluated what the car needed and replaced or repaired the items perfectly. Even during the 2 years when I was in the DC area, I saved my auto to be worked on by them during my summer trip home because I trust them.The evidence is in the health of the car. My 2nd 1997 Toyota has 121,000 plus miles and still going strong, due to J & D.Thank you.

Having burned before in the past by autoshops, I was dreading taking my car to a new mechanic. To say I was skeptical of all mechanic shops was an understatement. I just moved into the area with a car I had recently got from a dealership from my home town and I was already have some issues. Ideally, I wouldve taken it back to the dealership but because of distance I looked for a place nearby, both to find out whats going on and to establish a regular mechanic. Im happy to say J & D Autos is by far the best decision I made.I called another shop nearby in Royal Oak who charged 120 dollars for a regular check up and then 99$ to diagnose the Engine check light. Not to mention they were rude on the phone. I called J&D right after and Penny who is by far one of the sweetest ladies I have met in the area helped throughout the whole process. J&D didnt charge me a penny to find out what is going on. It turned out it was a minor issue that I couldve waited until I could take it back to the dealership to fix when I went back home. If it wasnt for J&Ds expert, friendly and prompt service, I wouldve wasted money and time. This is an excellent auto shop, and one that was won me over with their integrity and courtesy. I not only will bring my car to J&D for the rest of my time in Southfield but I will completely recommend everyone in the area to do the same.

Never heard the crook aspect about these guys. Don is very fair and flexible on pricing and if you have a problem he is willing to fix. Been going here for a minute now and I trust him to repair my car as well as refer him to other people. The previous poster probably never talked or tried to work out her concerns just venting. This place is efficient and very customer friendly. They do all major and minor repairs and Don is very accessible. If your looking for a shop thats always crowded and still efficient and willing to explain everything before and after your repair. This is your shop. If your looking for a shop thats empty and always available to get you in same day then search elsewhere try the bad shop section of Google, cause this shop is highly respected and always busy.

Customer Service is outrageous very disappointed, I took my Volvo for Oil change they spent one and half hour to remove the plug, they charge me 85$. I am familiar with that job, it should not take them more that 20 minutes if you have necessary tools and skills. I hope it will help somebody.
