Love it, friendly and they have everything. Quick service. π
They always have what I need - quick, helpful, knowledgeable staff. This is my go-to store for all hardware and tools.
Honestly I cant say enough about how nice this hardstore is. Cant quite figure out exactly what you need? Theyll know. Talk with any of the long time owners/employees and youll know right away that they have spent their life finding the best products and techniques to fix and troubleshoot all sorts of problems. Its in their blood, theyre like all good troubleshooters, they never stop asking questions and learning. Heck, they even fix phones there. One of the greatest hardware stores of all time.
Love the counter service! The staff are friendly and if they dont have the item in stock, they order it for you.
It seems like a small place but they always have what Im looking for! Theyre very knowledgeable and helpful
Their staves were very polite and helpful in meeting your needs. I make the right decision to come to your store!
The best, most helpful hardware store in the Bay. I wont go anywhere elseIf the dont have it theyll get it right away if they can. . Very efficient, knowledgeable, fast, integral and beneficial members of the community.
Good people, they had everything we needed.
If your time is valuable and you want the correct part or product for the diy project, this is the place to shop. The additional cost is well worth it; unless you are buying in bulk that you could easily purchase elsewhere. That said, support your local family owned business. They will take care of you best they can like you matter.Good luck.
This place is amazing! Ive yet to have a problem they have not been able to help me successfully fix. Everyone is very knowledgeable and it is family run! Really cannot say enough good things. Thank you!
This store has the best people working there.... I love the family atmosphere
Has all your needs .and people are great
Great, old-fashioned front counter service. Wide selection.
Very sophisticated sales crew and super helpful with this COVID situation. Highly recommend it.
Usually have everything I need. Very friendly staff..never a long wait
Where have these helpful women been all my life. Never going to any other hardware store again. The first place I went wanted $8 per key copied. Ellis charged me $1 per key and did it faster.
You will not find a better hardware store in the entire Bay Area. The place is magical. Shelves that reach up into the ionosphere. You walk up to the counter tell them what you want or explain what you need and the staff smiles, go into the stacks, disappears for a few minutes and then magically they are standing in front of you with exactly what you need. Knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, patient and amazing staff. If Ellos Ace Hardware does not have what you need then it is likely not something you can find on this planet. WORD.
Surprisingly pretty well stocked hardware store and they are right up there with the help but unfortunately their prices are through the roof compared to True Value down the street or Home Depot..
I went to fix my screen there(I brought by old screen there). Then when I came back they made it to big and charged me an extra 40$ to change it. Very bad service
Quick service
Always have what I want. Employees are extremely helpful. When I dont know the name of item and have to describe it, they know what it is.
This is a great neighborhood hardware store. The number of times Ive walked in and havent fully explained what Im trying to do and yet they always have a couple of solutions to recommend.
A little taste of how it used to be. Cant find it? Just ask the super helpful staff behind the counter and theyll magically make it appear. Staff are great for advice too. Much quicker than any trip to Home Depot and price is often close enough.
Best hardware store Ive been to... maybe ever. Every employee was helpful and smiley, and the counter-service style is PERFECT for someone like me who never knows exactly what he wants. I needed odds and ends bolts and screws for a bed Im repairing, and the super nice lady at the counter listened carefully, and then went back into the depths of the store and returned quickly with exactly what I needed. I was able to buy the exact number of bolts and screws I needed, and in the perfect sizes thanks to her helpful suggestions. Thanks Ellis Ace!
Incredibly helpful and efficient. Forget the Homederps or any other Ace for that matter. This is the place to go, get what you need, and get on with your life. [ even happier than when you arrived!]
I really dont know why anyone would go to any other hardware store.
Great customer service
Great reliable local hardware store for all your needs.
Incredible service. Skip Home Depot and come to this family-run business. When I first moved to the neighborhood, Paul (the owner) gave me his card and said if I ever needed advice on a home improvement project, I could give him a call. Sure enough hes given me great advice on two occasions. He always seems to know the name of all his customers and is just all around awesome.
Customer service at itβs peak!!!I needed two small bolt ($2 value)with unusual head and thread, these guys went out of their way to find something that will work for me and sure provided a good replacement. Will be back,Thank you!
We needed 12 gauge stranded wire (a spool of 500 feet). I called in to Ellis Ace Hardware just to see if they had any in stock. After confirming they had what we needed, I took the 3 minute drive and was surprised how easy it was to find parking in front of the store. When I stepped inside the friendly Clerk had my spool waiting for me and the receipt printed - all I had to do was pay for it, I was in and out of the store in 30 seconds flat! Now thats what I call customer service. If Im ever in this part of town again Im going nowhere else but Ellis Ace Hardware!
Totally awesome, locally owned store. Excellent place to go if you know what you want/need. Its old-style, with nearly everything behind the counter, so you have to ask for it. Dont worry... they have plenty of employees to help, and if there are a lot of choices theyll either bring them to you, or bring you back behind the counter to go look.
After being assured of the fit, was sold wrong size washers. manager denied $3 refund with the excuse that theyre cheaper to restock than refund
Very courteous and very experienced staff will be back for anything I need in her where keep up the good work
The staff listening to my issues that come out of every project and suggested products that fit the problem.
I love this place
Best hardware store Ive ever been to. Everyone is happy to help you, theres no wandering the aisles. Upon walking in someone will promptly ask you what you need then take you straight to it. Its dog friendly too.
Love this place. The staff there are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They also go out of their way to point you to a place where you can get what they dont have. Its one of my go-tos when I have a tricky situation.
Went to find a small thing that I did not k ow the name for but do now: molding hooks. I described them and the knowledgeable and courteous young man found them and sold them to me. Great experience, based on one visit, I should add.
Well managed, family-run hardware store. Very knowledgeable staff. They have a few common-purchases type items out front, but 85% of the merchandise is in a mini-warehouse behind the counter. So you a staff person what you want, and they write it down go find it all for you. The full-service aspect usually it makes it faster than going to a regular hardware store: they know where everything on my list is, whereas when I enter Home Depot I have only a foggy idea where to find the stuff I need, and I end up walking around the store three times in the process of trying to find it all. Hours are 7:30-5 (Mon-Fri) and 8-5 (Sat).
Love this place-In a hurry? Know exactly what you want? Dont wander the aisle of Home Depot- bring that list to these guys and get a personalized costumer service experience. Will you pay a little more to get in and out of the hardware store in 15 min? Maybe. Is it worth it? Totally.
Amazing place! Old school hardware store with fantastic selection and incredibly helpful staff. Going to be my go-to from now on.
This a very nice hardware store, with an old fashion service, where you get to ask what you need and they get it. The people are very friendly, Nice, very nice...
Love this place. Ive run my own handyman business for 10 years and have been in the construction industry since I graduated high school so I fairly adept at what I do but whenever I come across a part I have not seen or a situation I need some advice on Ellis has consistently shown up with either a solution or a great referral.
This ACE is fantastic. The employees were quite helpful and found all of the 50+ items I needed within 15 minutes.
Found exactly what I was looking for.
BE VERY VERY CAREFUL THAT YOU KNOW THE RETURN POLICY BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING. ASK IF THE ITEM CAN BE RETURNED AND UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES. I learned a very expensive lesson that a circuit breaker cannot be returned. $76. Under the big sign at the front of the store it says, TOOLS cannot be returned and under that it lists breaker. When I purchased the circuit breaker from Paul, he was very knowledgeable and helpful. There were 2 types of circuit breakers and he told me that I could exchange the one I bought if it was not the right one. This implied that he would trust me to bring it back in good condition. When I went in first on Monday for a return, I talked to a clerk and Barbara. I was told that the breaker was a tool, not refundable with no explanation. I would need to come back on Thursday and talk to Paul. I returned on Thursday. I explained to him that I had just realized that I had not reset the old breaker properly but when I did, it was okay. Paul said that he could not refund the breaker because there was no way he could tell if I had harmed it in some way. In other words, he would have trusted me to exchange but could not trust me if I wanted to return the item. Many people must have tried to cheat Paul and Barbara. I am very sorry for them because that must have hurt them financially and lead them to no longer trust. A bad feeling. I know, because that is the way I feel now.
Knowledgeable team with fast service and lots of inventory.
The store hours have been updated. Theyβre open from 9-3 M-F and closed sat and sun.
If you actually DO like hardware stores as I do, youll hate this one. You arent allowed to browse at all, you must ask someone at the counter to fetch what youre after. Personally, browsing the isles of a hardware store is half the reason for going & sparks creativity. This place is borderline useless to me & Id rather go to the terrible Home Depot down the street. This is unfortunate, as I typically love Aces.
You have to know exactly what you want no browsing cuz everything is behind the counter
Wonderful neighborhood hardware store and they have everything. This store has been in the area for years...
Absolutely the best hardware store!
Way better than the Ace on Grand Ave!!! Hands down!!!
This ace is definitely my place!
A true neighborhood gem; friendly, knowledgeable staff, great selection of doohickeys & whatchamacallits, Ill take them over the big-box competition any time
I have been shopping here for over 3 years now. They are always helpful and polite when I stop by. Support your local family owned businesses β
Awesome store with fabulous vibe and helpful staff. Wider selection of inventory would be helpful
The people who work there are very knowledgeable and helpful. I love this place. And Im not giving my money to some minimum wage giant corporation = Home Depot
Convenient location, street parking available but metered.Unusual in that you are greated by a counter and they go and get what you want, occasionally let you behind if you need to browse/decidePrices are significantly higher than large stores (example $25 for primer vs $11 at Home Depot) - not good for getting lots of items but very fast for small quantity items
Loved the place until I went to return an item still in its sealed bag. The boss lady claimed I might have resealed it myself in order to trick them! A ten dollar item!!
This place is exactly what I want from a neighborhood hardware store, quick, friendly service. I prefer going here instead of wandering around a box store for 45 minutes.
Very helpful staff. Super stocked, they have to walk you to the back (if you need anything there).
The staff members are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. This store always has what I need for the right price.
Excellent service and I found everything I needed, and the staff helped me figure out the details I hadnt thought about!
Excellent hardware. Awesome owner!
The best in service and surprisingly selection
Great customer service friendly staff you need it they have it
It took 3-4 days for me to receive an e-mail indicating but it was very helpful sysytem for all.
Doesnt deserve 1 Star. Doesnt Honor its refund policy. Doubt itll be around much longer #acehardware fades #oakland ca.
Awesome staff and so many choices. Everyone helpful and locay owned and operated.
Caveat Emptor - Buyer beware. How many Ellis Ace Hardware employees does it take to screw in the correct light bulb? Apparently more than the people who tried to help me. It was me who got screwed, not the lightbulb. Here is my story.I went in to purchase a lightbulb for $6.99. I presented the sales person with the exact packaging and bulb I purchased at this same store a few weeks ago, so they could be sure to get me another one of the correct bulbs. My unhelpful hardware man returned with the incorrect bulb - it was literally twice the size of the package and bulb I handed him to match, not to mention being a totally different part number. But my bad, I did not notice it was the wrong bulb as I trusted my unhelpful hardware man to give me the correct product since Id even given him the packaging to make sure he gave me the right product. Two days later I come back with the original correct package and bulb, plus the incorrect one they gave me, and told my story, but did not have the receipt. Someone there recognized helping me purchase these same bulbs (the correct ones) a few weeks ago.Not only did they not apologize or seem sympathetic, but the woman who appeared to be in charge said something like, If he gave you the wrong part... questioning the truth of my story and putting the blame on me. Bottom line: I had to eat the cost and purchase another bulb. And I was a repeat customer, until now.Now this wasnt a lot of money thankfully, and I understand everyone makes mistakes, but you should clearly see the principles by which these people operate their store before purchasing products there. Caveat Emptor. Buyer Beware.
Best ACE hardware store ever, veryHelpful folks.
