For the Conscious Consumer, Roots Market is the Cornerstone of the Specialty Grocery Store game. Their bragging rights are accredited to the Freshest Products, Readymade Clean Eats, Locally-Sourced Goods, and one of the more diverse Vegan/Organic/ Natural Wine Selections in the area!Recommended House-made Soups:Maryland Vegetable, Lentil, Vegan Chili
My absolute favorite grocery store — I won’t go anywhere else! Best selection of vegan/plant-based products (not only food but also vitamins, supplements etc). Everyone who works there is so nice and helpful! They also have really good prepared food.
Excellent selection of natural and healthy food, as well as a large selection of local craft beer. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Great place - its just pricy! Ouch! I go here mainly for specialty items. I can always rely on then to have things like Tuscan kale and golden beets that just dont seem to make it to the big box grocery stores. Great selection organic and vegan products - lots of tasty store made items - lots of local products. The staff is always friendly. Really wish I could afford to do all my shopping here - but that isnt in the cards at this juncture.
I used to love Roots. Great selections and friendly staff. But their prices on especially fresh produce have become outrageous. $8 for an organic cabbage? I went to Moms and got one for $3. Just bought bag of mini organic peppers at Roots for almost $7. Way above prices elsewhere. Three of the peppers were rotten. Quality down, prices up. I no longer do any major shopping here. Sad. 😢
Expensive but, superior products.Provides great variety to suit most every diet.
Really good for the high end grocery shopper. Small but very good selection. Some hard-to-find items. If you have a very specific and special occasion to celebrate, you might want to stop in here.
I give Z, the cashier clerk, an A+ at check out and bagging my groceries on Monday, 23 August 2021. Well done and thank you!
Love the store and its products but some of the cashiers can be a bit stand-offish when at times.
This is a good store if youre looking for something alternative.. It can be rather expensive but for the only Maryland region if you dont want to drive day Ive down to rockville this is probably eastly the best organic choice In a short drive or walking distance. The hot food bar is very good. They typically carry quite a few food items that none of the other grocery stores in the area carry such asuch as sorgam based chips et cetera.
This is a great store of you love organic food and/or have dietary restrictions. Lots of options and great baked goods.
Everyone was very helpful. Great selections.
Favorite store. Great variety. Healthy goods
I love Roots, great small organic market with a lot of things I cant find anywhere else. Great vegetarian selections, excellent cheeses and veggies. The only downside is that its a touch on the pricey side
Usually I find everything here. Customer Service pretty good. I think everyone should have a chance to come here and buy something. Awesome.
Love this place! Good quality foods, but dont go if youre on a very strict shopping budget. I like their many Vegan prepared foods and their house made Vegan Salad Dressings.
Fresh food not crowded.
Great atmosphere and selection of goods; far more diverse / less homogenous crowd than other conventional grocery stores. The selection of allergen-friendly baked goods is unparalleled in the area (especially plant based / vegan and gluten free) and the staff, very helpful. They tend to have a lot of new items first (well before Whole Foods Market) so its also a good place to go to try things before they become mainstream. The only request I have is for them to up the quality of their produce (to that of Moms Organics standard) and, carry Coracao raw chocolate and Santosha raw chocolate.Roots is definitely worth a stop over if youre passing through the area and, worth adding to your regular weekly routine if you live in the area.
Roots is my favorite supermarket. My only complaint is that I always find that impulse buy to go along with the things I actually need. So easy to shop here if you are vegan, vegetarian or have other dietary requirements. The Olney store also has the best labeled and large assortment of vegan wines I’ve ever found in a brick and mortar store with prices that are competitive (usually better) than non-bulk online markets.
I have no complaints about Roots, only that I wished I lived next door to one! The meltdown bar they have it fantastic with vegan options they make easy to choose. The options of deli style/pre pack food are unique and vast, definitely the best you’ll find in the area. They have vegan and vegetarian options of dishes you are just used to not even bother trying with. Always clean, friendly staff. Never shop hungry though, you’ll walk out with the store! 😂
Great store. Lots of unique items
Lots of great options for Vegan and Vegetarians
I love this store. Great inventory, clean, friendly service, and sells alcohol. What more do you need? If youre looking for vegan/vegetarian products, they have the best selection in the area (yes, better than Whole Foods and Moms).
So many vegan options. The grilled cheese bar is fantastic- made vegan unless otherwise requested. They have everything here. All the latest plant based products. Blackbird pizzas are the best vegan pizzas on the market right now. Also have the May Way products. The best is the vegan chicken drumsticks “drummies”
Bad customer service wasnt greeted when I first walked in and didnt get do I need help to look for anything
Best grocery store I have been to. Thats for sure.
Let me state a very obvious but not so obvious truth...Roots Market is not Whole Foods Market! I felt the need to say that because I think Whole Foods dominates the whole organic food market sometimes, and great places such as the Roots gets overlooked. Roots is great, and I like it because of three reasons. 1.) Roots is an awesome feel of a combination grocery and farmers market. 2.) Large truly vegan selection...fresh, frozen and in between, 3.) and an abundance of locally produced products from alcoholic drinks to vegan pork rinds. The one con is that some of the prices are a little higher for some things, which I attribute to the ability to not buy as much as the big guys do. Other than that I really recommend it!
Theyve done a good job with cleanliness and enforcing social distancing. The selection of foods is so good too! There was a customer who was not taking the distancing seriously and the cashier was very professional and direct in telling the crazy lady where to stand. Nice job!!
Everything is neat, and if you cant find it they are willing to help. They far and beyond. They are very knowledgeable and professional I recommend this to all my friends and family. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place.
Staff are very helpful. Its small which is good these days yet they have basics and some really goodspecial things.
I personally work here, and Roots has been by far the greatest job Ive worked at. I started working here right before COVID hit, and everyone has been phenomenal. My coworkers are understanding of my individual needs and abilities. We all seamlessly work together to help everyone out. And everyone at roots feels like a family. I came here looking for a job, but Im staying here because Ive found my family.
Good selection of tasty foods.
Love the amazing selection. Our family entered 2020 only purchasing items with the cruelty free bunny on the product. Roots makes it easy, with cruelty free bleach, cruelty free hair gel, cruelty free ice melt. The list goes on and on. My son loves the bath bombs, again cruelty free.Along with having an amazing selection of cruelty free products, Roots also carries a huge selection of vegan products. My family is lactose intolerant, so having the opportunity to eat vegan cheese cake is a dream come true.Roots thank you for not only looking out for the health of my family, but also for Mother Earth.
Small market with limited selection.
Local health food store. More expensive for some.. Great selection of wines and ipas
I dont shop here often, but Roots Market does have what Im looking for and checkout goes flawlessly. It also helps that the store does not have large crowds during the times I shop there.
A bit expensive but great customer service. A small store but very good variety of produce and goods. A pleasant experience.
I absolutely love the hot bar and soup which affords clean eating and various options that fit my few challenges. That said, prices in the store are high, particularly for the specialty foods, desserts and health/beauty. And the staff often make me feel like theyd rather be somewhere else. Had one bad experience with another customer at the hot bar late one night. The atmosphere inside the store and in the parking lot is at time intense and presents an uncomfortable feeling.
Such a great healthy store with great snacks, veggie and vegan foods. Friendly staff. Always nice and clean. Whenever were in the area we stop by.
Excellent vegan meals all prepared and ready to go.
Friendly staff and lots of selection
I thought the partition at the cashiers was very inadequate. I feel sorry for your employees. I would have thought you more caring at least as much as for the food you are selling
Their prices are high; they like to gouge on the premise of “organic” labels. And the managers are horrible and have no customer service whatsoever. Moms is much better. Don’t waste your time here.
The hot bar is awesome but more than anything else, if you are vegetarian or vegan then Roots Market has a huge selection of items that will fit your needs. If you arent, Roots Market still has a wide variety of items too, most of which is organic so it genuinely has something for everyone. Also, it has a pretty large selection of local craft beers, which I was impressed with. Finally, it just smells great walking into the store. Love this place and is highly recommended.
In a nutshell, it is overpriced. If you are wealthy, I recommend it; otherwise, there are much less expensive venues for healthy food.
We love Roots selection of vegan breakfast items like egg substitute and sausage alternatives. They have a nice wine selection too!
Great place to get organic food, Rikki was super helpful last time I went!
Wonderful stock, a little pricey
Love it. I only wish they had more variety in self service by weight.
The selection of food is great. The people that work there didnt seem too happy though. Maybe it was a bad day, but it made it a little uncomfortable to shop there.
This is a great store. The best part for me is the cheese selection and the grilled cheese bar. The lunchbox cheese box gives you a chance to sample small portions of a variety of cheeses. Their gourmet pimento cheese spread is very good. There are often free samples so you can taste before buying.
This is one of my favorite stores! I trust the food and the service they provide. Everything Organic and very clean!
I like cheese assortment.
I have been going to this branch of Roots since it opened up almost a decade ago. The selection here may not be as much as the one in Columbia but it gets me what I need. Their beer and wine selections are also wonderful. I usually get bread and stock up on my milk alternatives here (Oatley/Minor Figures for the win!) They now have a frequent shopper card that I highly recommend getting since the prices here are on the higher end. The customer service here is tops, never had a bad experience with anyone for help. Thanks for being there for Olney/Brookeville, Roots!
Like the place but exspensive be prepared, good Beer selection
I think its safe to say I am here every day at some point. Since its opened I have always had a great experience. Olney is really lucky to have such a great spot with a lot of good products no one else in the area! Ricky is the best!
Great groceries and more. Not inexpensive, though.
Good quality products.
Expensive but still love this place and the workers
Great selection of gluten free, organic, vegan, and or locally sourced etc products. Also love their salad bar and hot bar.
I love this store! Employees are always friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of organic foods and all natural health supplements. They have nice bulk selection of nuts, beans, and grains. Also, their beer and wine selection is good. I stop here on my way home from work often.
Great baked goods.Excellent bulk stuff.Tasty store-prepared foods.Good selection.Certainly pricier than average, but thats the cost of quality.
Roots is an excellent organic market with a broad selection
Love the shopping experience here and the staff is amazing. My son and I went and as we’re checking out I realized I forgot my wallet. They finished checking me out and held our items until we came back and whisked us through at the customer desk. They made my not so great morning, better!
Love Roots! They have many specialty items that are hard to find elsewhere.
So sad I have to take a break from roots market. My favorite thing at this store is the sweet potato cake I travel about 45 minutes out my way to get it! However today’s as I was eating my sweet potato cake a long brown hair appeared in my mouth! How disgusting and disappointing.
Really friendly people, super clean, limited selection of only the best products is fantastic (makes shopping really quick). I can find delicious food here for cooking or snacking. It is very expensive so I only buy part of my weeks groceries here (fresh fruits and veggies, cheeses, chocolate, and bread). I save meats for the regular store (a steak here is $15.99 for like 4oz!)
Great offerings. A bit pricey but thats how the good stuff is sometimes.
Slightly overpriced, but you can always find high-quality produce, gluten free (including beer), vegan and organic items. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Dont forget to bring your own reusable grocery bags! If youre running around and doing errands, there is a conveniently placed Starbucks next door. 😁
Nice place. A tad bit pricey. But lots of good healthcentric items.
So pleased with our valentine’s dinner from this store yesterday. It was so nice. Well prepared and easy to eat— no overwhelming flavors.I am a little concerned about the employees there. The store is in beautiful condition but I think more should be done to support the workers. They seem exhausted and unhappy. If there are any ways customers can support employees better, let us know!
A good selection of healthy food options.
Good quality, small market with lots of items you might not be able to find elsewhere. Great selection of wines and cheese, and a hot bar that often has lots of really yummy vegetarian (and non-vegetarian as well) fare, as well as a salad bar and several delicious soups. Quite expensive, however, so for us its a special occasions visit.
I really like this unique grocery store. youll find a great array of almost anything you want. They focus on organic, fair trade, and somewhat exotic foods. I dont go very often because its pricier than most other grocery stores but I still like it.
While I do like this grocery store more than some others, there is one big issue that prevents a good review; I was recently in the Wellness section and simply could not find what I was looking for. I looked everywhere, and then, I realized, the organization made absolutely no sense. I couldnt find anything logically; so I asked someone working in the section, how is this organized?; she looked at me with a puzzled look and said, I dont know. So, yeah, probably want to go someplace else.
I shop at Roots in Olney regularly. The staff are educated and helpful. They are always willing to recheck something or find out the answer to a question, and are happy for suggestions about new products. The store is always well stocked. I find just enough new things to try without the disappointment of not being able to find what I have come for. Their produce is excellent if a small department. They have gluten free products that are easy to find, in addition to their specific aisle. Not only am I happy with what they have, I dont need to compromise on our nutritional standards. I dont know what I did before they opened, but I hope I never have to manage without them!
Roots is great for those hard to find Natural items. The price is a little bit higher than others but it is nice to know they have things in stock. I do not think there has ever been a time where I was unable to find the item I wanted, so far as they carry it.
The produce was spoiled or rotten, not as big as moms organic market or Whole Foods. More expensive than Whole Foods and lower qualityfood
ROOTS IS WONDERFUL!I AM A FAITHFUL CLIENT!! LOVE THEM.
This is one of my favorite markets for organic, clean foods. They have a great variety of brands that support a healthier lifestyle. I also enjoy their sample stations as I have been able to sample several items that I ended up purchasing after confirming that I do enjoy them. I definitely look for sale items because the prices are significantly more expensive that the more mainstream grocery chains but I do find that they are competitively comparative to Whole Foods, Wegmans and MOMS. The only thing that I am frustrated about is that I have been waiting over two and half months for my member card. I do appreciate the cashiers still applying member discounts when I explain the delay.
Gourmet, organic, unusual and delicious food. Beer and wine, too. This is a gem in our neighborhood. Pro tip: try cultured, salted butter, but beware, you may never want normal butter again. The hot food bar and salad bar are great but the cold sandwiches are great, too. Lunch, groceries, fine cheese for a party, a quick hot meal, excellent breads, are all at Roots. Yes I am a big fan.
There is one black manager that stalks me everytime l visit. My boyfriend got food poisoning here once too however, there are a couple of superb employees that really takes their time too to be super helpful and sweet to you
Excellent products, excellent customer service!
Clean, friendly, well organized with no to minimal supply interruption
Love the selection of cheeses however I am sad they took away thier cheese reward cards. I hope in the future they consider bringing these back. They also have a nice selection of baked goods, wines and beers.
Great place for organic or not your run of the mill products, especially when youre in a pinch. You pay a convenience premium since its in the area as opposed to driving to Rockville for similar markets though. They offer osmosis filtered water for a fantastic rate per gallon and have incredibly friendly staff.
Best place for Vegan products. Been shopping here since it opened. Its definitely become popular. I do find the Clarksville Roots Careys some things Olney store doesnt. But all in all love this market.
Nicely stocked health food store with a great salad bar. Good selection of cheeses. All natural alternative medicine area. Prices are what you expect from an organic grocery.
Great little grocer. Excellent selection of organic and hard to find alternative products. Local wines and beers as well and a good selection of herbs and vitamins, also hard to find in your big-brand super markets.
Excellent service.always get what I.am looking for. Good products
Great hot food bar! The chicken and roasted potatoes are amazing♡ Lots of samples, organic products, clean and well stocked. Love Roots.
I have been coming here for years to get groceries. Their prices are moderate, but the food is high-quality and there is a wide selection of health conscious products. There is a lot of free samples, a hot food bar, a salad bar, and freshly baked goods. One other major plus is that in comparison to many other grocery stores, their bathrooms are always clean.
I like this market. The only place where you can find more options of vegan products.
I like that Roots carries a good selection of kosher desserts, including hamentashen around Purim time.
Great store, helpful staff great food
