I have been here multiple times and have also had a few of my friends come here and we have all had the same experience. Positive helpful and professional bike staff that know what they are doing. I had a mountain bike that I converted into an electric bike. I wanted to upgrade the brakes on it and the other shops in town either wanted a ridiculous price to install them or wouldnt even touch it stating its a liability......Deschutes River Cyclery got the job done for half the price in half the time haha! Ive been coming back ever since and will continue to!

10 mins into a 500 mile bike adventure - I had a derailleur meltdown. Despite their busy schedule / they assisted my boyfriend and I promptly and we were back on the road within 30-45 mins. I unfortunately dont remember the guys name (possibly Adam?) who assisted but Im grateful to his sensitivity to my plight and getting me on my way. We’ve since completed the trip and are back in NYC - but any cyclist who is loca to Olympia should make this their cycle shop.

Im an entitled small minded human being, used to being spoon fed while lazily watching the world go by. The money I have I inherited. Yet if I am honest with myself, I didnt deserve it as I was never there for mom and pops when they truly needed me. Now that I have money I expect to be happy. Yet why do I feel so empty inside? I try to spend away this feeling yet every product I purchase deepens the vastness of my soulessness. So for fun I skulk in the shadows of the internet braying about my lack of perception, I attack local businesses where I never shop because they have slogans and artwork that do not align with my myopic view of society. Everywhere I look I see fear and derision, as this is what I feel inside. I have the audacity to complain, yet cant see past the end of my own nose.

Thanks for your response Adam, but clearly I didn’t feel your alternative was fair or I wouldn’t have left the review I did. Considering that there is a pandemic and not everyone can make the drive to your store, I thought honoring a voucher would have been a fair alternative. Instead, I was given a lesson on poor customer service and why expiration dates exist...thanks. No need to respond, I have no intention of giving you anymore business.Very disappointed in these guys. I purchased a very expensive bike from their shop and at that time was given a voucher for two free tune-ups. I was able to get the first tune up, but for reasons related to covid, was unable to get down there to get the second tune up before the voucher expired. When I called today to ask if they would honor it, I was told that they put the expiration date on there for a reason and I should take my business elsewhere. I was just about to outfit my wife, son and daughter with new bikes and was planning to purchase them all from Deschutes...not anymore. I’m actually embarrassed to admit that I had actually referred people to this shop. I can assure you that won’t happen again.I hope the refusal of honoring a $70 tune up voucher that expired during covid was worth the $4000 in business and any future referrals you just lost.

I had repairs done to my Trek bike that included new tires. After the second ride the tube valve broke off. I spent $549.00 there on repairs. The first worker I talked to said they would fix it. Then a second worker came out and said he would fix it but he would have to charge me. I told him I just purchased the tire from them, I asked him to look it up. I was told that this would not be covered under warranty and he started accusing me of breaking it. I could not be more disapionted in Deshcutes River Cyclery. The staff is rude.

I had an incredible experience with Deschutes River Cyclery. Wonderful customer service and all around a pleasant experience. During this time of social distancing biking is a wonderful reprieve and way to get outside. Adam fixed up my bike to the nines! It rides like a dream. Thank you so much!

Worst customer service ever. When a customer brings in a bike for repairs here are some tips on what you shouldn’t do.1. Tell the customer that the repairs will most likely cost more than the bikes. That is a disregard for the customer and a complete lack of any kind of compassion towards customer as human beings. We all have different abilities to buy bikes and all bikes should be respected as the customer is paying for the service. Not to be demeaned.2. Do not tell the customer that they should just get better bikes. Again, not everyone can afford multi-thousand dollar bikes. This is such a horrible was to present your business to the community at large.I sincerely hope that your business doesn’t treat people like this on a continued basis. You had a paying customer at your business that you turned away for no reason other than your total lack of awareness for people and their bikes.Your type of customer service serves no purpose in our community. Olympia is a warm and inviting place to live and your standards are clearly not up to par with this community and it’s members. You should be ashamed for the way you treat people simply because you judge a book by its cover. I will not be singing any praises towards your company to anyone in the community.Do better. Be better.

THANK YOU, for giving me faith in the idea that customer service makes a difference. I brought a tandem bike to these guys, that had shifting problems, l figured a derailer adjustment . Not a high end tandem, but one that gets my wife out on the Chehalis Western trail on the weekends. Their initial quote was more than l paid for the bike new, 7 years ago. After letting them know it’s expected usage, they did just the work necessary, keeping the cost more than reasonable. They were also smart enough to schedule an evaluation. 3 other bike stores in Olympia/Lacey were so far out on their repair time, yet wanted to keep the bike sitting in their shops for 7-10 days just to give an estimate!De chutes River Cyclery let me bring it in the night before, evaluated it the next day, and finished the work the day after that.Great job people, you have won a customer for life!

Great customer service! It’s the time when every bike shop is two weeks out for any service and don’t take time to answer questions. I called Deschutes... spoke with Shawn on the phone who was very friendly... I told him that I have a front derailer problem. He said bring it in and I’ll take a look... and he did... took him about 3 min for adjustments and he didn’t even want to charge anything. They are busy servicing bikes and have two week out schedule... but taking time for each customer is what makes me want to come back for service or purchase. Thank you, DRC!

Deschutes River Cyclery is an outstanding locally owned small business. I highly recommend checking them out, conveniently located in downtown. High quality Olympia bike shop with fair prices and excellent service. I recently had my commuter bike in for a tune-up, the mechanic did a very thorough job and clearly discussed all the details with me. Bike is running smooth now and I am very happy with the service they provided. Plus, you can walk in and browse without being harassed by sales vultures.

I came in on a Sunday - mid afternoon. There was not a single customer in the store. 2 workers only. I asked for a tire to be looked at and I was told they simply couldnt look at it for 3 days. Not even an assessment. SHE wouldnt even come around the counter after asking to please just take a quick peek to see what I might need to repair it. I was shocked at how I was completely denied even 5 minutes of her time. I ride a bicycle and so do many of my friends and I will NEVER come here again and be sharing my experience. The owners should employ people with a better grip on customer service! Boo!!!

Dropped a project bike off here to have the finishing touches applied and could not be more happy with the experience I had. Adam was super helpful and communicative. I ended up getting a proper bike fitting at their suggestion, which turned out to be excellent advice. We replaced a couple of the parts that needed to be changed and he was able to come up with some sweet deals on components (thanks Bill Stevenson!)Ive now been riding the finished product around for about a week and have never had a more comfortable ride.Overall the experience was great and I would recommend their shop to anyone.

Awesome place! Its my new regular local bike shop. Location is perfect for me.Recently had my commuter worked on by Joseph. He replaced my right shifter cable when I stopped by, while I waited, which wasnt long. He looked it over, and I needed a drive train overhaul, which I kinda knew. They got it in, repaired, and back to me in a couple of days.Decided to have them look over my mid 80s steel lugged road bike. I talked to Adam about it, and we worked out some repairs, maintenance, and upgrades. Im now riding it every day, and Im LOVING it. Never would have thought that a wider set of bars would make such a huge difference.

I trust these folks to always treat my bike with care. They take the time to explain things to me, in a way that doesnt make me feel silly for not knowing. Their prices seem extremely reasonable. I went here today not understanding much about what separates Wal-Mart bikes from 500+ dollar bikes. I received very genuine customer service from an awesome bearded guy who helped explain basically everything about various bikes and parts. He presented options to me in a nonscary manner, and didnt overwhelm me. Unfortunately I am terrible with names so I cant give a specific shoutout, but I imagine the level of care I received is a pretty regular thing for these guys that love working on and selling bikes. I will be taking all of my future bicycle business to them.

By far the worst shop in the area. Ive made at least a dozen purchases here, and the only thing that actually fit my bike was the brake pads, which both wore VERY quickly, and were twice as expensive as my usual brand, and on top of that, the performance was WORSE! especially in the rain, which i was told they were suited for. hah. well, at least on one of the returns they accidentally gave me $5 extra, which covered the extra expense on the brake pads, so i called it even and never went back. oh, and i second the tattoo comment. The employees are just a bunch of hipsters that act like they should be in a coffee shop, acting like they dont want to be there. do they ever smile? are they vampires? robots? DONT go here unless you act like you dont want to be there. then theyll understand and might even say hi as you walk in.
