I had a pleasant experience from the time I walked in the door! I was met with a nice welcome, and after a short wait, Myrna took me back to start my eye exam. After that, I was seen by the eye doctor. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. They were very professional in getting their work accomplished. I would definitely recommend this office.

I’ve been a patient of Oro Valley Eyecare for a few years now. The staff and doctors are always friendly and eager to help- I know it sounds cliche, but that’s exactly how they are. I have worked in the medical field (surgery) for my entire life and have a good sense of when medical professionals truly care. I’ve been seen by Dr. Mackelprang the last several times for my eye exams. He has made me feel like I’m the most important person in the world while finding the right prescriptions for my contacts and glasses. The staff and doctors show they really do care about my vision AND eye health. My experiences from the time I walk in until I walk out make me feel great about my decision to come back year after year!

Oro Valley Eyecare was amazing. The tech was wonderful while doing all the various exams, explaining everything as she went. The doctor spent a long time with me, at least 30 minutes if not more. He explained everything very carefully, showing me pictures of my eyes vs. eyes with the diseases we are watching for. He explained some nutritional things I could do to improve my eye health. Then the office people were very helpful in helping me choose new glasses. They carefully explained all the various options. I will keep this group as my eye care professionals.

Dr Mackelprang is so fun, friendly, informative and professional, total package. My first visit to this location and I’m not surprised the staff were all just as wonderful. Totally worth traveling across town to see him!

We scheduled an appointment and asked to confirm 3+ time to the point I called twice to confirm as the text and emails did not seem to be working. Confirmed yesterday for today’s appointment and walked in and from the “hello can I help you” the receptionist Jennifer was so unfriendly. We said we had an appointment. She said we canceled yesterday. I said we called to confirm. She was arguing with me and so rude. Sooo rude. I hope the office manager or doctors are reading this. I know there is a shortage of staff all over but my goodness. You can do better.On a good note one of the other very friendly office techs was nice enough to help put a screw in my glasses. The tech who helped us order our glasses and contacts was great. He was quick to understand what we were looking for and helped us use our insurance benefits well. A remarkable combination of caring people and technology! I selected the practice for my first eye exam since moving to the area largely because they have the scanner that makes dilating the eyes a thing of the past. The array of diagnostic equipment they have is really extraordinary! The technology used by these physicians far exceeds any other Ive seen in eye care. I left with photos of my retinas that I can track changes to as I age. I come from a family history of macular degeneration and this gave me great peace of mind. Dr. Mackleprang listened to each of my concerns and addressed them very professionally. I left with a trial set of contact lenses that were more comfortable for my eyes that day because of the new technology of the lenses themselves. It was an exceptional customer service experience.

My eye exam was very thorough. Dr Mitchell answered all of my questions and explained in detail what he was doing and the changes that he was making to my prescription. My pupils were dilated for the exam. Another staff member took pictures of my eyes. Then an experienced, knowledgeable staff member helped me select frames and lenses that best suited my face and preferences and had my insurance information in front of him. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable and they have a large selection of frames. I feel fortunate that I found OV Eyecare.

Excellent location, office and perfect, professional, friendly staff who explained everything they did well. The Dr answered all my questions, explained results in detail about my aging eyes and narrow angles. So very unusual these days to get such attentive care!!I was also able to be seen months before any ophthalmologist would see me, and I received better care here than expected.They have all the tools needed for me to be assured my eyes are healthy. No dilation of the eyes needed here!I received a sample bottle of eye drops which are actually helping my dry eyes rather than making it worse!! I have wasted a lot of money looking for this kind of relief!!I received my last prescription lenses here a few years ago and they were also perfect. I made a mistake and ordered another pair from Costco but the lenses had flaws and they gave me a headache.Highly recommend OV Eyecare.

I was extremely disappointed when I went in for my yearly check up. I was looking forward to getting new glasses since I verified with my insurance (VSP) I was eligible. From the very first appt., last year, I made sure they knew I have double coverage with my husband. Again I verified with the receptionist that it was noted in my record of the double coverage status with VSP. The exam and talking with the doctor went well. However when it came to to purchase new frames I was told they do not bill a second insurance (my husbands). I asked why and was told because they just dont. I said it was the first time (in 30 yrs) I had heard of that practice. I ended up telling her to tell the doctor that I would be going elsewhere to buy glasses. My husband was going to make an appt with them next but looks like this business lost 2 customers. The only reason I could think of why they would not bill our insurances; they dont know how to bill 2 insurances and/or the owners of the practice do not want to spend the money to have a well trained employee in billing.

They lost my business! I’ve been going here for years and when I tried to make an appointment for my yearly eye exam I was told that now the only way I could get an appointment on a Saturday was if I paid cash for my visit. Then when I asked for an appointment any other day I was told that it would be a month and a half until I could get one, unless once again, I paid cash. If I paid with cash they told me I could get in that week. Not only is this highly unethical it is completely ILLEGAL to do!! I don’t know if they got bought out by some scandalous company or what but this is not okay to do to your customers.

I didnt have to wait too long to get my eyes examined and to order a new pair of glasses. Everything went smoothly and quickly.

I’ve been a patient of Oro Valley Eye Care for a year and a half. My husband and I both have VSP vision insurance, which they take and it covers most of the cost of exam and a pair of glasses.I like Dr. Mitchel and find him to be experienced and very thorough. I also like the fact that they have a photo scanner for the retina, which doesn’t require having your eyes dilated and gives a better diagnostic image. Medicare doesn’t cover this option, but it’s only $49.I love their selection of frames and find their staff very helpful with this decision making. They don’t make their lenses on site so it takes about 2 weeks to get your glasses. I’ve used the quick, local vender and the quality of lenses is like night and day, in my experience. I always spend the extra to get the Crizal finish. My copay is $35. It reduces glare at night, gives an extremely clear finish, and best of all, extends your lens warranty to two years. I’ve just requested new lenses for the two pairs I purchased last year. No charge. Who doesn’t end up with some scratches when you wear your glasses all the time!

I have worn glasses for the last 50 years and I am used to the Doctor going through the process of which is better 1 or 2. OV Eyecare uses a digital system to determine the most accurate prescription for my glasses.Oh, and by the way, the Doctor and staff are professional, friendly, and empathetic. He is an incredibly good listener and and responded so thoroughly to my questions and concerns. I had previously been a patient at a large eye care company and only saw the optometrist as the last step in a series of having eye tests done by several different technicians. When you have the full attention of your eye care provider it inspires a feeling of confidence in your doctor and you dont feel like just another numbered patient. I like this eye clinic. The staff is super friendly. They are expensive but give those of us with no insurance a discount on glasses. Their equipment is current and kept clean. The receptionist is very sweet and helpful. She sanitized every pair of glasses I tried on.

The worst eye care experience that I have ever had. During my exam I told the doctor (Mackelprang) twice that I wanted single-lens reading glasses. What I got - after spending money on lenses and frames from a third party - were not single-lens reading. When I brought the glasses in, the tech told me that the prescription was for progressive lenses and that the lenses were true to the prescription. When I told him that I specifically asked the doctor for single lens reading glasses and that therefore Oro Valley Eyecare made a mistake, he tried to give me the runaround and refused to acknowledge it.If I could give Oro Valley Eye Care zero stars, i would.Dr. Mackelprang, your bio says that you are driven to make people happy. I just had my first visit with Dr. Mackelprang at OV Eyecare and had a great experience. The doctor did my exam himself rather than an a tech. I was surprised at how much time he was able to spend with me and delighted at how thorough the exam was. Don’t bother going here. They don’t listen when you speak, don’t answer questions, don’t bother looking for medical problems, and refer you to a different place if you want to get testing for medical issues. At least at JCPenny or Costco I can get better service and some shopping done!Edit: Just got home. Pulled my old prescription out to check. They told me that ‘Congrats! You’re prescription hasn’t changed!’ According to these people, yes it did! All four of the numbers are different! That’s a huge change!!!I feel scammed and like I wasted my once-a-year eye check.
