Believe they wrny out of business a few years ago. Was great back in the 1970s.
Have Loved This Iconic Store Since I Bought My First Pea Coat in the Late 1960s and Just Read Yesterday That Tomorrow August 23rd, 2019 is It Last Day Of Business!! So Sad, Glad Ive Shared This Gem With Friends and Grandchildren Through The Years!! You Will Be Missed!!
Family owned business. Easy to miss walking on the street so be on the look out for it! Great options. Nice staff. Will keep in mind for future needs.
This use to be one of my favorite stores for years. Was great to shop for old and new military clothing, etc. Since they moved, the selection has really declined as well as staff attitude. The sales guy on the 1st floor was so annoyed that I could only describe the Army accessory I wanted, not the item number! Ask for a specific item and they have no idea if they’ll get it in. I’ll be shopping online for now on.
Helpful staff, have 3 floors, well structured n got myself few patches, pricing is good, but only issue is u can miss even if u walked just next to it. Need to do something on outdoors to get noticed. Shall be here again to buy some.more stuff soon
Their new location has a much better organization system. Its very clean and looks nice. Lost some of the character of the old location. Also lost the smell surplus products used to have which is a good thing.
The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable. They have a wide selection of goods and plenty of larger size clothes which are hard for me to find. Well worth the hour drive to shop here .
Place is great. Had a hiking trip to some of the national parks in the western part of the state and found some good supplies for the trip. Nice selection of footwear, cold weather apparel, and work attire. My favorite stores in the city.
I Goldberg use to be the standard when it came to Army/Navy stores. Ive been going there for years and this was my first time there since they moved to this location. Even when I moved out of the city, I would take that 90 min. drive just to go to the store. I was thoroughly disappointed! Military selection was subpar at best. I went in there to get a Marine Corps hooded sweatshirt as I was attending a birthday celebration and they had none. Very little in the way of any military items and the items they had were over priced. I even tried searching for Marine Corps items on their website and only came up with flags. Will not return any time soon. Good luck finding a parking spot!
First of all, it is the only survivor of the Army-Navy store that flourished in the years after the First World War, selling military surplus equipment that fit the needs of a society that went camping and canoeing, etc. that survives in Center City Philadelphia. Twice forced to move by development, it lacks the fusty, rummage sale ambiance of its last two iterations and is clean and spotless and sort of sterile. On the other hand, I left with a Royal Navy flag to fly at my house and will return again for other items. It is the real thing and younger generations should appreciate the store that sent Philadelphians into the wilderness, or at least to Woodstock or Haight. They also happen to sell terrific products that work for everyday urban (and suburban) living. 4 Stars indeed!
Nice and roomy! Your thinking they dont carry that much till you keep going backstore towards the directory . Though I(couldnt easily notice their could be an Elevator)I climbed the 2 levesl it was worth it! Promised myself to only purchase thermal wear, here😊
For years I wore wool crew socks in the winter. Only to have freezing feet when the perspiration from my feet just stayed in the wool. Then I discovered socks that wick the perspiration away from my feet, Ive been buying them from Goldbergs ever since. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable, they explained the way wicking works. Years ago I bought a Navy pea coat here, as well as long underwear for the winter, at their former location.
My favorite place to shop for good quality clothes and military type outdoor equipment. Good service & friendly! They do layaway too!
Almost easy for many people to find all the military stuffs in this store. The basement are used stuffs like old Soviet union, German, US army jackets and coats; the meal box, gas mask flags etc. The second floor are best because i can find all Alpha stuffs like M65, M1, N3B.
Its a great place to shop it have a lot of things youre looking for
I wish I could give them negative stars. I was happy with their overpriced store until one of the employees mocked my kids for asking a question and then proceeded to announce to the entire store that she would just beat their butts.
A great place for nice utilitarian clothes. It has great camping equipment and great military surplus stuff.
Got my work clothes from there kinda high but well worth it
I like the new location. Its a very clean up venue! No clutter.
Shopping with them for many decades. For me its been premier for militaria, authentic surplus and out door wear. My items last forever, and are beaten down by age or outdoor adventures or simply lost, so I go here to replace them. They are now close to their old location from the 1980s. Its clean and larger, 3 levels with an elevator inside and bathrooms on every floor. It feels like old Philly, when South Street was not commercial, when you could park on the street easily during the daytime. I wish them more power and hope they stay for the next 100 years.
I liked how the store has been cleaned up, but somehow it took away the old store charm and ambiance..and they dont carry half the stock they used to either..
The new location is not as great as the old location, but staff is still courteous and very helpful.
Its very neat and clean The store is small even though they have 3 floors
New location store is beautiful. No longer cluttered. Two level store for all your needs.
Interesting items. If you are a history buff I would suggest because there is military surplus on floor 3.
Great place to visit and shop, friendly staff and decent prices.
I love I. Goldberg...new store is nice, it would be nicer if everything was on one floor. However, that said, its one of the few places that i shop.
Invaluable store that helped me last-minute to pack for the Peace Corps. Able to find essential items on sale like hiking boots and socks.
Its nice at the new location they just gotta get those winter shipments in stock
Great place to wander around to see what they have in stock. Check out the 3rd floor
Military surplus store specializing in clothes, prices are great and the clothes are high quality. Get your winter coat, waterproof jacket, camping equipment here!
Nice place to pick up clothes and equiptment is ok.
I really dig their new location, the selection is fantastic and it is now in a much more organized space.
Terrific army navy store, albeit a little smaller than it was a previous locations.
If you havent been to I.Goldberg then havent seen tip of what Philadelphia offers they have Great gear for summer months and the winter gear is off the chizzy, for those that need an urban dictionary it means chain
I found a military hat that I was looking for. Good variety of uniforms as well.
Always been one of My Favorite stores to visit before winter, has everything you Need to Servive anythingThe people that work there are Really helpful if u need help dont know what I would do if it wasnt there anymore (tbh)
This isnt the I Goldbergs you remember, they have no stock, their inventory is sparse and junky, they didnt even have Multitools, and was told they had no idea the next time they would order leatherman or related tools, they didnt even have flashlights in stock. Staff was rude. No longer a one stop camping shop, youll be better off shopping online, or finding another store to find what you actually need. Im not sure what this new store is supposed to be anymore. Good place to buy limited surplus clothing if you need to complete an outfit.Bonus however, is the space is wheelchair accessible.
Good variety and not that expensive. Helpful staff
Lots of good stuff at cheap pricing. love it
Great store to find camping supplies, used army/navy clothes and goods, and new garb. I will be returning for many of my camping needs (spare tent stakes are something like 49 cents) and definitely for a new winter Carhartt jacket (amazing selection).
Good selection, prices range fromholy hell wow!! :D to holy hell, wow... :/, fun to browse
A good place in the city to get technical clothing and military surplus clothing.
#army #navy #military surplus Not as large as the old store, but still a great variety of merchandise. Went for a replacement for my 10+ year old bookbag. Got a Fox Tactical which is laid out nicely.
Really nice clearance section for Dickie shirts pants and rain gear
They run out of items quick but thats what happen when youre the best.
This place is great i was in a bind looking for work boots and this was my last place i would look and bam there they where my new work books love this place
They had a moving sale, so was a bit of a jumble, but the range of camping and surplus equipment was impressive.
Great place for specific shopping like Merrill Shoes, woolen socks camping gear.
Best Army Navy store in city. I think they even have Air Force stuff too. What a deal!
Good selection. Folks there know what theyre talking about. If you do buy the surplus in the basement, you do have to be prepared to get that mildew smell out.
This store is great for camping and outdoor gear. The basement also sells an interesting selection of army/navy surplus stuff.
Best overall Army Navy Surplus Goods one of my all-time favorites been shopping there for more than 40 years
Best place to find quality outdoors backpacks. Great selection in camping gear, boots, tents, knives, cooking gear, water purifiers, and you name it the best Ive seen in the city so far.
It was good while it lasted, I believe that changing location killed them.
I was shopping for a male at I Goldberg really has some real real nice jackets leather jackets at that
They have so much great Woolrich, Carhartt, Dickies stuff for men but NONE for women. Cuz women dont need stuff, right?
Always a pleasure, especially in their new, spacious space. And they dont check bags anymore!
Great store, great prices ..great staff...really nice people...well nothing last forever.last visit Sept 29th,what a change,i seen a jacket, leather German surplus polisie, very heavy duty leather..when I last wrote the review..I didnt buy it..so I was down in center city 01-05-19.i needed work boots..I picked up a pair,carhartt..nice,was going to purchase the jacket..didnt see any..when I asked the associate on the second floor he said we dont carry them,(jacket)..I replied you do, he said maybe there on the third floor..ok.up I go..now I had one in my hand on a rack of around five or six Sept 29th as I stated.the associte up there acted like I was senile.very rude..I mean RUDE..My wife told himthey were here, he insisted I was wrong andmust have been at another store..he said how many years ago was it..YEARS?..didnt purchase boots...walked out,.they obviously were sold out...i,and my wife know what we lookedat..and Ill never walk back in..sad..customerapparently is always WRONG there.
Amazing selection and service at a longtime staple in Center City. Still killing the game after these years.
Great place to shop for your outdoorsman customer service could be better at the register but those on the floor make up for that with their helpful etiquette.
The staff that work there are very knowledgeable about what is in the store especially the knifes😀😜
They always have cool gear, trendy & not too expensive compared to other outdoor clothing stores
I went there for fun, and it was awesome! There was everything there! From boots to gasmasks, theyve got you covered!
Shopping there for years always improving selection.
What a sad disappointment, a commercialized pale shadow of what it used to be. They moved from 13th and chastnut, and apparently forgot to take all their inventory with them. Not to worry though, because the thin shelves of stretched displays that barely cover the 3 floors of space, is full of higher dollar, less useful things.Oh, and instead of segregating all the used surplus on one floor, now it is just indiscriminantly spread through the shelf stock on all three floors, and apparently priced to be about new. What a crushing disappointment to walk into this hollow, sparsely filled location full of overpriced garbage ... when i was expecting three floors of racks packed to bursting and the best prices in the area.I really miss the basement of all surplus used gear that you could find all the misc. odds and ends you needed in. gone. gone is all the fun, just soulless retail trying to bill for top dollar on a name and reputation.Highly recommend avoiding this place and keeping the cherished memories of the best army navy store in the area intact, instead of having them ripped to shreds like I just did.
Loved the old one, so much more surplus, gas masks, retrenching tools, now just clothing.
If youre black they watch you in the store . Better to set up a PayPal and go online eBay & Amazon . Nice selection though
Got what I came for. Very clean store. Helpfull staff.
Great place love the new location super friendly peeps
Excellent service and selection
You lookin for Hot styles on the cheap or something to get the job done in you get in here an have a nose around. Great denim selectsh. Respect
Good surplus store for tactical and camping needs. A bit disorganized at times, but worth digging through for great values.
Good selection of military surplus stuff. They also sell new stuff.
Great staff, top of the line product s
Great place. Whatever you are looking for, they got your back.
All the stuff they sell here now is overpriced and can be found for a lot cheaper on Amazon.
TEMPORARILY CLOSED. I. Goldberg is in the process of moving to a new location in center city. The sign in the window says it will be 1718 Chestnut St. In the near future.
Awesome. 3 floors of wide selection
They have got pretty much everything for your travel or hiking needs. The staff is not gonna give a damm about you being there.
Great selection, really friendly and helpful employees.
All you need for the outdoors. I love all the old military items
Sparsely stocked store without any resemblance of attentive staff.
Cool and convenient surplus store, that continues to stand the test of time
Good place for clothing and bags. Lacks on the nick nacks
Clean friendly bright and SALES!
I went to this shop to buy a pocket knife. I didnt find what I was looking for.But I found something. It is a large store. they have camping, military, equipment, gadgets, wear etc. check this place out.
I been shopping there sence I was a kid, you always find it there on matter what it is you need.
Many neat items to choose from for clothing
Great selection, great staff, reasonable prices.
Great Store, friendly service and wonderful products
Checking out rhe going out of business sale they were having
Not cheap and the quality of products is not the best at times. They do have a lot of produts for every outdoor lover
Helpful staff, wide selection, and competitive prices.
I thought it would have more military stuff but it did not. Only a few old style army uniforms and mostly hats, gloves, and T-shirts going on.
Was better before the move.
Fantastic work clothes, army fatigues, and hiking selections!
