The cashier charged us $13.98 for two green onion kimchi that we never bought. We called the store immediately when we realized this counting our items against receipt but no one picked up the phone. Cant believe he did this to us with cameras installed inside the store... and I just saw a similar experience in a review posted here from 3 years ago. It feels like they stole my money, disgusting!
Your classic Asian grocery with a ton of good products and produce. The best kimchi Ive ever had also.
One of the more convenient Asian grocery stores to go to if you live in on-campus housing for CMU or just nearby. Tip: Staff treat you better if you speak Korean to them
Friendly, tons of really cool choices, must visit even if you aren’t korean.
Yeah.. the lady cahsier said zero words to me the whole time. Not the most friendliest place. Probably wont come back.
Great store. Found exactly what I needed and the service was very good!
Their homemade kimchi, geot jeori is at another level. If you wanna a different type of kimchi, check this place out.
Unfortunately their expensive small dishes are made of old vegetables. I threw them away after one bite.
Its a cute little store thats good for getting snacks. They have prepared food in the refrigerated area and meats, as well. The cashier can seem cold and rude, but hes probably sick of waiting on a bunch of college kids. He warmed up as soon as I spoke to him in Korean. If he doesnt greet you, greet him first. Its the respectable thing to do.
Great place to go! I dont know why the reviews are saying the workers and cashier there are rude. They were extremely friendly, and had a loud outgoing personality. I started going there frequently. They gave me a free sample! No matter what the other reviews say, try to go there!
I really like that its in North Oakland. For how small it is the selection is not bad, having frozen meats, treats, and dumplings as well as fresh veggies. But the cashier is consistently (over 5 or so visits) not pleasant, and in a few cases, plain old rude. Go here in a pinch but if you have time and arent looking for Korean specifically, head to the strip.
Just left this store and the old man doesn’t greet you. plus he watches you while you’re in the store. I paid for my stuff and I certainly didn’t say thank you after he bagged my stuff and handed me my receipt.Store owners you need to be nice to your customers.I don’t have to spend my hard earned money to keep your business in service!
Nice friendly service, got some pears here, parking in the back for a quick run in, also parking down the street, small little neighborhood shop.
The only good place in Pittsburgh for Korean grocery.
Decent selection, but many things were not priced, or confusingly so. Also the cashier woman was a bit rude, left me waiting for a couple minutes without saying anything to me while she was on her computer. And when she rang me up she didnt say anything to me at all, and she basically threw my vegetables into the bags. The Sambok market in the strip district is much better, their staff is especially quite friendly.
Do NOT go here if you dont want to be scammed! Prices in this store are not fixed. Bought a yuchoi and it was 2.50 once 3.99 the second time....
The male cashier was not nice to me and made me feel really uncomfortable, which seems like the trend looking at the other reviews... Such a shame because it is so convenient and I would like to go more.
Unfriendly, snobbish lady behind the counter. Decent selection of Korean food items. Oh yeah, her mask was like hanging off her face while she was on her cell phone during checkout.
Great service and products
Great location for students like me and the owners family is very friendly. Last time I went there they gave me some free food and I can tell they really care for the customers! Highly recommend going there. Their food is really good too. The spicy rice cake and some homemade packed food are worth buying
The staff, the woman, is not friendly. I usually dont care if people are unfriendly. However, this lady looked at me with suspicious eyes. If she is a staff or a owner of the store, she should not look at the customer in that way. If I could, I just want to say her, Just... Be nice!
Great selection and pricing for a Mart. The only thing I had trouble with was that only one of the items I purchased had a price listed so I had to ask the cashier to tell me what each items cost was on the receipt so Id know for future reference. She seemed as though she might have taken it as me not trusting that she rang things up correctly which was unfortunate. Otherwise I was pleasantly surprised and will definitely return.
Great authentic food and employees. As a college student, lots of great korean snacks to munch on and a good variety of banchans and instant noodles to feast on. Some goods are too over-priced, but the vast majority of the side dishes and snacks are priced fairly. 4 stars because good variety and price, but the cashier sometimes ignores you to talk to one of their regular customers than theyve known for a long time.
This become my second Korean market in Pittsburgh area. Greet things and reasonable prices. We bought a lot of snacks for a good price. And he even gave us small yogurt and cookies for free.
The women cashier is unfriendly and no greetings at all.
Great selection and good prices. The cucumber kimchi is bomb and $5. I usually just head in walk directly to the kimchi grab my the cucumber kind then pay with cash. More often than not the cashier doesnt say anything to me or really acknowledge my existence other than take my cash. It isnt too big of a deal that the staff is not friendly or warm at all. I like cheap good Kimchi. Still, if they were friendly this would easily be a 5 star place.
Their tofu is SOUR on the day of purchase! Many of the packaged ready-to-eat food has no labels of production day and expiration day. Who knows if they are edible?
Limited selection of goods, but you can be sure that the quality of the goods that youre getting here is great. Pricing doesnt seem very transparent though: many items come without price tags, so you have to rely on the integrity of the staff to charge you for what its worth.I wouldnt buy from here unless there are specific goods which I am looking for, or if this was the most convenient option for me and I didnt want to travel further.
The female owner never smiles and never replies to my smile or greetings. The male owner seems to be friendly though. All other aspects are fine. Will recommend.
They carry a great thin cut meat selection.
Great pre-packaged meats :) also friendly!
Good prices on rice, and definitely pick up some frozen dumplings too. Their bulgogi didnt agree with me, though, and you have to make sure theyre giving you the right prices when they ring things up - Ive seen mistakes before (always in their favor, curiously), even on items where prices were clearly marked.
If you are a female, I do not recommend you to go to this place alone. The male shop owner will touch your skin without asking any permission. And to the male staff or shop owner of this mart (maybe the “rude pervert” would be a better way how I call this guy), shame on you and if it happens again, you will confront me in near future. If you feel something guilty about it, please apologize to the person.
Most of things(Korean food) you can find it here.. :) N Many people said that they are rude. But thats actually not true. They just didnt smile (its their style lol) but inside they are soft mind people. Dont estimate just by looking, you will know one day if you go there many times. :)
Awesome place! I love trying new food.
I actually like this store. I really dont care if the owners speak to me or not. They see me come in and I spend money. As long as they dont spit on me or call me obscene things in Korean because Im Black, I dont care. Sometimes I try my hand at greeting them in Korean. If no response...okay no response. My one thing that I really dont like is there are no sales tags on the food. I think that is not a good business tactic. Otherwise you can get some nice produce you wouldnt necessarily find at the local supermarket. Oh yeah. Dont expect other Asian foods in a Korean market. Somebody was complaining about dim sum. Just get you some mandu(potstickers).
I dont shop here often but when I am Im treated poorly. Some of the products prices are marked, others are not, making your shopping experience a guessing game. While checking out I handed my debit card to the cashier and said thank you, after completing my payment she put the receipt and the debit card on the counter and immediately turned away from me. No acknowledgement that I had said anything or eye contact. The person before me wasnt treated this way and Ill never be shopping here again, Id rather make the trip to Sam Bok in the Strip.
Im not sure about the bad reviews, but every single time Ive ever been here the staff has been nothing but kind and courteous. They have a wonderful assortment of products... From ramyeon and kimchi, to fresh veggies and tteokbokki. Fell in love with Pocari Sweat, Banana milk, and Lets Be coffee drink!!! I am beyond ecstatic that I found this little store and never hesitate to visit when I need to replenish my cooking supplies.
Great place for Korean or East Asian grocery items.
This is the only Korean place in this part of town and it has a very limited selection. The female owner is extremely rude to her customers - she was talking loudly on the phone and chewing gum while checking me out and accidentally combined my items with the person behind me and refused to rescan them again separately. We were left on our own to divvy up the receipt... which is just ridiculous. I will not be coming back again.
Great selection of sauces and spices you cant get at the Eagle.
My receipt come up to $86. I look in to my bag! I only got 16 items but in receipt is showing 20 items. I checked at least 5 times. They was over charged $18. I didn’t pay attention at the check out because I trusted them. And I went there almost every weekend. So I called if I forgot anything but the man owner said nothing left at store!! This’s ridiculous!! Make sure you check your bag before leaving store and look what he typing in to the register.
Very kind woman running the register! Very nice small shop.
The proprietor was rude, and most likely because I wasnt Korean. I was trying to find dim sum wrappers and thought it might be at Seoul Market. I had my Korean sister-in-law on the phone helping me, he was unwilling to even speak to me, and made a gesture to suggest that I go away. Being part Asian myself, Im appalled at his prejudice. The store looks like it has a small but good selection of Korean and other Asian products. As far as I can tell it did not have the dim sum/shumai wrappers I was looking for, in case you decide to go there looking for it.
The place is fantastic. You can have experience korean culture and owner are very kind.
Great price and very kind
Decent produce. You can find some hard-to-obtain items here.
Authentic Asian groceries, the owners are also really nice people.
The attitude of the staff is disgusting if you are not Korean - for example they glare at me as though I owe them money. When I was here with my Korean pals, the owners treat them way better
I can find everything I need here. the best Asian market in Pittsburgh
Very helpful good variety of products.
Your friendly neighborhood convenience store
They charged too much. So expensicve.
Super cool place! I just wish they marked more prices.
Great corner shop for all your Korean needs.
Accurate and nice grocery store
It seems that in this place only Koreans are welcomed.
Hong Cho, Kimchi, fresh produce, great Korean mart
My husband and I always shop here for the basics like kimchi and rice, plus things like melon pops, yakwa and other Korean goodies you cant find anywhere else. Its so rare to find a solid family-owned grocery store these days.
Generally agree with others about the attitude of the staff. But good choice of meat here. Parking at the back of the store may be available.
Pretty nice and convenient korean store
Place to get amazing Korean food
Not a big selection. Can’t pay with the card if less than 10$, also the store is dirty.
Best grocery store in Pittsburgh
The lady working here is very rude
Rude, condescending owners. They also treat Koreans and non-Koreans differently.Im forced to buy from their store because theyre one of very few Korean groceries in Pittsburgh.
I Luv kimchee
Fresh vegetables, Friendly boss.
Very rude owners. This place only thrives because it’s the only korean market in Pittsburgh.
Great selections!

It is by far the best among Korean stores in Pittsburgh. The owners and couples are also friendly, and the goods are fresh and plentiful. Its nice to have free parking in the back.It is the best among Asian stores in Pittsburgh. The owner couples are also friendly, and the goods are fresh and plentiful. There is also a place in the back where you can park for free.
Even though the store is small, its good that there are quite a few kinds of Korean groceries. The price is not expensive compared to the big Korean market in a big city. The generosity of both the owner and the owner, who occasionally provides guests with free drinks, is also great.
Mister is so kind, clean and very good😊
Lucky to have a Korean grocery store
Affordable price! Kind boss! Kimchi, Samgyeopsal/ Korean Fried Chicken, Raccoon, Shin Ramyun, etc.
Its kind. There are also many Korean items. Its the best.
There will be something to miss in Korea and the boss is also good!
Nice and nice ~
