Part of The Gary & Nate Taco Tour Pittsburgh. Spartan, seemingly authentic, Ma & Pa Mexican restaurant at the curve on Beechview. As two lily-white suburbanites, we lack the cred to proclaim this Authentic Mexican, but ALL of the staff (you can clearly see into the kitchen when you order and pay), and most of the patrons, appeared to be Mexican. Further, the menu is written in Spanish (with some basic English interpretations), and the ordering process was rendered a bit awkward with the language barrier. We were after tacos, and El Paisano delivered. Their tacos were very basic - just meat filling cradled into soft, double corn tortillas that had a nice griddle top crispness, topped with a tablespoon of fresh cilantro and served w fresh lime wedges and semi-hard radish slices. No frills. There were eight meat choices, we tried 5. They were all SOLID. We agreed that the carnitas were the best.Apparently it is BYOB, all other drinks are bottled that you pull from a big cooler. We chose Mexican mango pop.Everything about the place was informal and lacking of many common Gringo conventions. If you like that vibe, then youll probably like this joint. We sure did. I will go back and try some of the other dishes. They all looked pretty good.

Laid back small spot perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. Food was so good! Loved the salsa, so spicy. Had enchiladas and they were authentic! Only problem I had was that I felt so sick for the next 7 days after eating here. This place was the only unique thing I ate in 6 days leading up to it. My stomach can be sensitive at times but I honestly felt awful, reason for me rating only 3 stars. My bf had the same thing I had, he ate his whole plate and I only ate 1 1/2 of the enchiladas and he felt fine, no sickness. He did not have the creme on his however. I will eventually go back there one day but I am probably going to wait a year lol prices of the decent, a entree is $14. PS: THE RICE IS TO DIE FORRR!!

Dont know if it changed owners or cooks but its not the same as it used to be. Quesadilla was so greasy and soggy it was not really even edible. The Chorizo had no taste. On a positive note my friend ordered the floutos and said it was good.

This is by far the best burrito I have ever had in my entire life. It is a bit difficult to order because it is authentic Mexican. they do try to have at least one interpreter to speak English. Their burritos taste entirely different than any other I have tried. They are incredible. You have to try, but you will be hooked. Other burritos just wont taste that good anymore. Be prepared. Being completely honest.

We moved here from Dallas a little over a year ago and I have been trying to find authentic tacos since we got here. I am so glad we found this place that is a reasonably short drive. The tacos didnt disappoint and the flautas are amazing! I can wait to go back and try some other plates. This will be a regular pit stop for us. Tasted like home!

My favorite (& the best) Mexican restaurant in Pittsburgh!!! The food is delicious, authentic, and made fresh right in the kitchen! The wait staff are all super friendly and attentive. They have a full menu and, if you get there early enough, they have daily specials. Bottled beverages for sale in the cooler and multiple TVs for customers enjoyment. The place is cash only, but for the food you receive the prices are great.

Not the place to bring a first date if youre looking to impress, because this place is super basic in terms of decor and ambience. Also, keep in mind that there is no liquor license. But the people are lovely and the quality and freshness of the food is unmatched. Dress down and try it!!!

The interior was quite spacious with lots of tables, there was a small little market/pantry area, and they have an open kitchen if youre interested in peeking in while theyre cooking. Their portions are bigger than we expected; the menu, while colorful and pretty, definitely seems to understate how much food there is! Knowing some Spanish will help here, as it seems that the nice ladies prefer to communicate that way. Everything seems to be cooked fresh and flavorful, as these kinds of Mexican dishes should be.

The food here was amazing! Im Mexican so I know authentic and this was 100% authentic. I had enchiladas de mole and they were so good. My sister and dad had the camarones a la diabla and those were like my mom makes them. I would recommend this to anyone! I would go back to Pittsburgh just to come here. The food is that good. (The food was so good that I forgot to take a picture before hand)

The most fantastic authentic food in Pittsburgh. From tacos to tilapia to hang over soup you will not be disappointed! Today I had the seafood soup again which is filled with snow crab legs shrimp scallops clams and mussels. A side of tortilla and a plate with diced onion jalapeño lime and avocado. Has been my favorite place for about four years.

So the first time I came here I thought maybe they had an off day or I just ordered the wrong meal. Nope. Stopped in today for my lunch break and I cant believe how foul this place is. When you walk in there are actually tiles and drywall coming off the floor and walls. There was empty beer cans everywhere and there was a kid running around into tables with cardboard boxes. Ok. No time. to go somewhere else. I gotta get back to work. Ill just get a burrito and a coffee to go. Nope. They just handed me a burrito in tin foil and a filthy mug with A CAN OF INSTANT COFFEE......so I try to eat. I cant get past the first 2 bites. Everything tastes dirty and undercooked. I cant even look at the instant coffee. I go to pay. SUPRISE CASH ONLY! NO SIGNS... No warning. Now I have to find an ATM and come back to pay for the Luke warm garbage I was just served.one hour later Im in the bathroom at my office vomiting. I just paid 12 dollars and a service fee for food poisoning.

Small portions. No spice. No soda fountain or beer. No diet drinks. Want water? That will cost you $1 or $2.50 for the large bottle. Place is a dump ... which I wouldnt mind if the food was cheaper & good. I spent $45 before tip for 3 very mediocre meals. My 83 year old mother said it was the worst meal shed ever had. Mine wasnt that bad but it wasnt very good either. I really wanted to like the place. Never again.

The tacos are still amazing. The tortas are just as delicious. Service is always good and fast. Anytime someone asks for a good tacos in Pittsburgh, I always send them here. I honestly always keep $20 cash in my wallet reserved specifically for if Im nearby and decide to go to El Paisano. Definitely come here if you want some good authentic Mexican food.

This star is only so I can leave a review, this place deserve no stars! Did I just eat at the same place everyone ate that left 3+ stars??? This place was truly a disappointment!! First I had to wipe down a place to sit. My fiancé looks Mexican so the waitress assumed he spoke Spanish and clearly didn’t approve of me his “black” girlfriend. She brought me out two cold wet corn tacos with cold chicken and cilantro, nothing else on it, served on a paper plate no fork no knife. Yet she gives my fiancé silverware and a regular plate like everyone else had in the restaurant!! I asked for refried beans she brought me soupy black beans. I ask for sour cream guacamole and cheese she brings me runny sour cream, two pieces of block cheese and a slice of avocado. When I expressed my disappointment with the food and service she just replied ok like she could care less. I honestly felt discriminated against and big time. The service was awful and the food was discussing!!! My advice go to Taco Bell they have better “Mexican “ food! Smdh!!😤😒

I ordered the Skirt steak Carne asada with the beans, rice, salsa verde, and corn maiz tortillas. The skirt steak for the most part was pull apart tender and had great flavor. The rice was perfectly cooked and i loved the heat from the salsa verde. I loved the portion i was given and loved the location being right by a mexican grocery store I.G.A. foods. Worth stopping by but you will need cash ready as they only accept cash.

My favorite secret joint for Mexican food in Pittsburgh. They need some better signage because every time I tell someone about it they respond with, I didnt even know that was there! Probably the best Mexican food Ive had, everything is made fresh daily, the meat (7 or 8 different options) is prepared fresh right there in the kitchen, you can watch them blend the different types for different dishes like campechano. A huge array of options from your usual taco to sopes (so good and not many Pittsburgh places have them), soups, enchilladas, the biggest, most well priced quesadilla Ive ever had (they must put at least a dollar or 2 worth of avocado on it alone) and a number of dishes and platters Ive never heard of until I started eating there. They arent pricey either. The most expensive thing on the menu is a huge platter of food, and its maybe $14. Things start around $2. The hours are cool too. Since its right on the RED line of the T many workers stop to get a bite on their way home because I believe they are open from 10AM to 10PM. Its catty-corner to the coffee shop BREW on Broadway (another fantastic spot in Beechview, this one for coffee and events).

HUGE portions.! We are visiting from Texas and I must say that the food here is very authentic. I highly highly recommend the millanesa de res, and the green enchiladas. Please come hungry because these things are stuffed to the max with meat. Im glad I dropped in.The enchiladas de Molé are THE BEST!!!! you can really taste the Cacao in it. The sweetness contrasts the spicy in a perfect balance.Happy eating!
