We had an extremely positive end-to-end pontoon rental experience with Knotty Oar.Booking Process and Pricing: We called multiple times in the booking process with a number of questions about the rental, and the two young women who answer the phone were always incredibly helpful and patient. The price is competitive vs. others on Prior Lake, and when you add up all the costs/amenities most will find Knotty Oar is on par or better vs. the 1-2 rental companies who only charge $200 for 4 hours (Knotty Oar was $250 for our rental from 10AM -2PM on a Summer Wednesday). Gas is extra and ran us $17 (you pay only for what you use and they fill it up at their location - other rentals you actually have to get gas somewhere before pulling it into their slip!) The pricing walk-through and billing is very transparent - no surprises unless you are reckless and damage a boat.Boat: In fantastic shape, felt almost brand new. Powerful motor, on-board depthfinder for peace of mind to avoid shallow areas, very comfortable seating, fast moving power bimini shade that easily could be adjusted to keep the newborn in our party in the shade, etc. I think the website actually undersells the amenities, as it had a high quality sound system you could connect to via Bluetooth or Auxiliary cable (or listen to radio) and a nice captains cup holder that had a cooling function! Nice anchor and swim ladder made stopping in a few swim spots a breeze.Location: Prior Lake, between Upper and Lower, was plenty large enough for us. Not too much traffic on a Wednesday, plenty of calmer areas to pull over to dock/swim, and a pull-up bar/restaurant (Charlies). There are larger lakes and rec areas in the area but this one, in particular for a one day or half day excursion, is plenty.Overall/Family: From beginning to end, across every employee interaction, we were really pleased with Knotty Oar. From a family perspective, they were extremely patient accommodating our four young children (from 8 years old to 14 weeks!) and had a variety of child life jackets to choose from as they are required for anyone under 10. One other location we called said we had to bring our own which quickly made them a much worse deal vs. their slightly lower rental price. After the trip, they have ice cream bars, cookie sandwiches, popsicles, etc. in the office for reasonable prices (most everything in the $2 to $3 range).We were surprised with how clean everything was (office, boat, etc.) and their public bathroom to use before/after the ride was immaculate - we all commented on how nice the bathroom was! Added bonus - they just recently adopted young English Golden Retriever puppy named Wilson (12 weeks old?) who greeted us in the office and both kids and adults were besides themselves.We will absolutely be back and make this a Summer tradition.

My goal this year was to get a pontoon for my birthday and spend time with my 4 kids out in the lake more often. We visited Knotty Oar Marina a few weeks ago to look at some pontoons. We were interested in some of the new pontoons but also told Larry to keep an eye out for used ones too. I filled out a financing application and got approved a few days later. On 4/13 Larry sent us photos of the exact pontoon weve been wanting at a reasonable price point we were comfortable with. I set up an appointment with Larry for Saturday 4/17 at 11am for a test drive. He messaged me back that the day and time works for him too. We drove 40 minutes with our truck anticipating on bringing it back home with us that morning. When we arrived, Larry came right out and told us that the Pontoon we came to see just sold to the couple who just left the parking lot. We even saw them leave. He said he couldnt hold it because we didnt put any money down for it? It is our first time purchasing a pontoon and wasnt given that option on 4/13. It would have been nice to let us know ahead. Very disappointed with this practice.

Excellent Service Experience - Knotty Oar is my new home for all my boat service. I had been a long time customer of Marine Max since I bought my Sea Ray 185BR there twenty years ago. But with the terrible service I got this year from Marine Max (they broke my skeg and wanted me to pay for it) and the same day service I got from Knotty Oar on the replacement of a lower unit water pump, I am now a Knotty Oar customer for all of my future service needs (winterization, storage, etc...) - We only moved to Prior Lake a couple of years ago, and local businesses with great service and fair prices, like the Knotty Oar, makes Prior Lake a great place.... Just brought home our new Pontoon that we purchase from Knotty Oar. We are so excited and could tell Larry was as excited for us as we were. Larry was great! Answered all our questions, responded to us in a timely manner and everyone else working there was great and welcoming!

Very fast and courteous service. We rented a pontoon boat for 3 hours for a family of 11 and was a wonderful experience.

Awesome place. We rent a slip here. They make it very hassle free to just walk up to your boat and go. They also have a boat mechanic on site so if when ever we had any issues, we just let them know and they take care of it. All the staff are wonderful and super friendly and it is also nice and convenient that you can order pizza pick it up on your boat, or if you are like my girls, grab a quick ice cream treat on a hot day. Highly recommend this place.

On July 13th I rented a pontoon from the Knotty oar. There were 11 of us total and my first time driving a boat. I just want to say is the most amazing experience ever! First of all the reservation process was easy and every time I called I got great service and my questions were answered. When we got to the Knotty Oar, loading up was easy and let me tell you all the girls who were there were absolutely amazing! They were so helpful nice polite answered all of our questions and got us smaller life jackets for the kids. The young lady who checked in our boat was extremely knowledgeable went over all the controls what everything was and helped me get off of the dock. When we came back in for a bathroom break they were there again super helpful and not only that there were other customers in there and they were so awesome and helpful with them as well. If you ever want to rent a boat they have the absolute best customer service I have seen in a long time. We felt welcomed and at ease. I love knowing our small town has an awesome marina. It was just an awesome experience. Unfortunately I forgot the names of the girls who helped us sign in but all of them were great. My mom also said they were so sweet and helpful thank you so much knotty Oar for making our boat ride experience great my kids first one at that!

I really appreciate having Knotty Oar Marina on our lake. The entire facility is clean, well maintained, the staff are terrific and the entire establishment has a hometown charm. Of course the service, convenience and pricing are exceptional. My family loves to get Heggies pizza. We call ahead and they bring it right to us on the dock. We rented a pontoon for my birthday from 10-2 on a Wednesday. We had 7 people aboard and tons of room to spread out and relax. It was an absolutely gorgeous new pontoon and the staff was informative, very friendly and answered all of our questions. We were able to just hop on and enjoy our day! There was an air compressor for blowing up your floaty toys attached to the building. We anchored in a couple bays to hop out and swim. The ladder made it a breeze to get in and out of the water. Prior Lake is huge, our only complaint is we didn’t rent it for long enough to explore it all :)- highly recommend and we look forward to renting again!

Larry and his team are top notch. They are always friendly and willing to do whatever they can to help out. I run a business in town too and am very impressed with all aspects of how this business is run.

The only reason I give it two stars instead on one is because Sidney was very pleasant to deal with the other teenager Tanna was not. Her customer service was terrible she was argumentative and impatient. When I first scheduled I was told one price because whoever was doing the scheduling put me in the computer for the wrong time slot so I called back because I didn’t receive a confirmation via email and they told me the price I was given was wrong told me a price about $75 more I said ok and after I was charged it was $100 more. Instead of the confirmation email being done over they told me don’t worry about the fact that the wrong time slot was on the confirmation ticket which could be a problem technically for my records and theirs.I was told gas is approximately $20 and it was $45I was then shown pictures of what looks like two different boats and told I caused damage by hitting rocks however rocks where never hit. None of it sits right or makes sense to me unless they just didn’t want me renting from them again.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, considering this was our first trip out on a rented boat. Seem to be fairly knowledgable for their younger ages and quick on their feet when the weather turns. Definitely recommend if you have a small party of people and would like to rent!

The staff named tana was EXTREMELY disrespectful. She charged us for gas even though she wasn’t suppose to,said we were late coming in with the boat when we came earlier than they told us to come,and is talking about we damaged the boat and we didn’t even crash into anything! She kept disagreeing with everything we said. She was at least 18 so I personally think they should have older and wiser people in there.

Thane and the Knotty Oar crew are fantastic! We recently had our boat serviced and I was really “wowed” by the level of customer service. They took care of everything with the boat, including taking it on and off the lake and covering it. Hats off to them for earning an A+! The owner, Thane, is a great contributor to the city and lake community. Thank you for what you do, Sir!

Always the best service from the Knotty Oar Marina on Prior Lake. They have helped me for years. Always prompt and for the most part have a ‘we can do it’ spirit. They can cook you a pizza too and have cool treats for the kids. Gas may cost a buck or so more but on an Day where we boat or jet ski a lot they are better than spilling in the lake.

If you are looking for a place to buy a boat or have your boat serviced, give Knotty Oar a call! You won’t be disappointed. This is hands down the best marina in the twin cities! The owners Larry and Thane truly go above and beyond for their customers and treat you like family. I booked a service appointment to have the trim fixed on my 05 Glastron and they were able to get my boat in the next day which was really convenient as other marinas were booked out for 2 or more weeks. Long story short my fiancé and I are idiots and didn’t get our boat winterized, so they found 2 huge holes in the engine block. The repair bill was $6500, and we weren’t going to spend that much on an older boat. Larry gave us an extremely competitive trade in price on the 05 boat, and showed us some 2019 Crest pontoons with zero pressure. They are extremely knowledgeable about boats, and are genuine people to work with. Their dock staff is very helpful, the marina is beautiful, and we will be customers for life. The staff was amazing! The girl who helped us was very knowledgable on the boats, the marina and the contracts. The pontoon we rented was very clean and modern. By far the nicest pontoon weve ever rented. The speakers had LED lights surrounding them and the captains cup holder was refrigerated. We had an amazing experience (even tho my boyfriend crashed the boat). The owner was also very understanding of what happened and worked with us professionally. The atmosphere was very high end. The office was clean and very modernized, even down to the stool seats. Staff had nice uniforms, they also had a very organized way to communicate and worked quickly together...just everything! Very nice place. Highly reccomend this place! We will be back.
