Nice little campground by I-25. Sits way above the weigh station at Raton Pass so there is some noise but the view trumps that. Ask for the sites with a view. Slightly more $ but worth it. They will direct you in. Very down home operation. Will definitely return if in the area. Trinidad, CO is nearby for shopping.
One of our favorites on the way to Colorado from Texas. The views are spectacular and we find old roads to hike with our dog. An early morning hike down the hill from the campground included viewing elk from about 25 yards. No bears, but There are some in the area. The bathroom and laundry were closed last year but open this year, and were clean and functional. Sites with views are first to go, but worth the effort if you can get them.
We were traveling with another family and decided at the last minute to stay in Raton. We stopped at another campground in the town and didnt feel it would be a good fit, so we called this one. The owner answered and said they could accommodate our 25 foot and 41 foot trailers. By the time we arrived 15 minutes later, the manager was ready for us and showed us to our site. Its a small campground with 29 spots. The restrooms and laundry area are clean. Because its at the top of the pass, we had a great view. We were happy with our stay.
Extra gracious host. We had booked online not realizing an Arctic blast had frozen in the camp ground. We arrived just after sundown and they could have easily sent us down the mountain, but rather they personally helped guide us in to a nice a flat RV spot which was greatly appreciated based on ice on the grounds. Great views. We will add this to our future stops when travel from Texas to Colorado.
Very simple and relaxing place to stop on your journey, good views and nice cool nights. Clean facilities.
We called the office around 2 July 2021, spoke with Rhonda, asked a few questions about the park and decided to stay at the park for 7 days, made reservation for 8 Aug 2021. We left our information, CC for a deposit on our reservation, etc....On July 8th the RV Park charged our CC for the full amount without notifying us.I called the RV Park the same morning ( 8am CST) for some clarification and why the full charge to my CC, not remembering the hour difference with NM ( 7am MST). Rhonda answered the phone and I requested the reason behind the full charge and was told that it was 7am and she was not in the office. Asked her to call me as soon as she got to the office to clarify this. She never called me back, so I called the park and Rhonda answered. She asked why I was calling and I told her that I wanted to cancel my reservations and before I was finished with my sentence she replied, Oh! Thats why you called me because you are upset and hung up the phone.Never had the chance to explain myself why I canceled. I find their business practice to be shady, rude and not very business like.We were NEVER told by Rhonda that the full charge of our stay will be applied to our CC, a full month before staying at the park. They have a 3 day cancelation policy and we canceled well before their requirements. My advice to all RVers looking to stay at the Park, BEWARE they have some shady business practices.Their website cancelation policies does NOT reflect their TRUE cancelation policies.PS, We would have left zero star..........
This might be the campground for you if:1.) The sound of a busy interstate makes you sleep well2.) You don’t want to have cell service or reliable WiFi.3.) You’re not particular about the site you’re supposed to be in and are fine being put in the mud.4.) Are fond of hosts that are condescending to you.If any or all of these situations appeal to you then this is your campground!
What a great little RV park!! Clean and easy. We were going to be late to check in so we were provided with detailed instructions to our site. The visiting critters were a bonus along with the morning view! We will be back when they are fully reopened after the pandemic for a day or 2! Excellent location and easy for RVs of all sizes.
Great place! Very nice people. There were issues with construction and they went above and beyond to be sure we could exit safely. Great spots. It’s a must stay if you are in the area.
This place was great and very Accommodating
Ive passed by this place a dozen or more times through the years and always planned to return with my motorhome some day. I love the area and the views are exceptional from the top of the pass. It was fine for our overnight stop, but its a small park and a few miles from either Raton, NM or Trinidad, CO so Im glad we only stayed one night. Both the store and restaurant were closed due to COVID and we didnt use the restrooms, but they appeared clean, from the outside anyway. The gentleman who helped us with our reservation and parking our rig seemed pleasant and polite, but unfortunately the Trump flag flying on the pole is enough to keep us from returning. This vet has no desire to spend money at businesses that proudly support a traitor.
This place is a perfect stop heading into Colorado. Clean, well organized, great/attentive owners, and an excellent view to boot. Everything is clean and it’s very quiet in camp. You are close to 25 but this Raton Pass Camp after all. Highly recommended.
There owner is a real piece of work.
After seeing all the reviews of the rude lady everyone was talking about I gave the place a call. Lady was very nice on the phone. Booked a 4 week stay. Upon arriving the lady was very rude and didn’t believe our camper was 30ft like we stated in the reservation. Her husband then took us to the site and was very helpful. We ran to get groceries and got a text that our dogs we in happy and barking. We’ve been full time campers for a while and have never had an issue. After returning the neighbors told us they didn’t hear our dogs bark. We decided that before it became an issue we would find another place to stay. After letting the husband know our plan he then became passive aggressive stating “ nowhere is going to put up with our dogs anywhere we go”. They kept the $100 deposit for the month which is understandable and also charged us for one night for the two hours max we were there. We are in town for work for 13 weeks and took our business elsewhere.
We were here for 4 nights on site 18. The first 2 nights were great until other rvers showed up right next to us arguing, slamming doors, their son who appears to be about 16 was crying. To say the least it was a miserable 3rd night and it doesn’t appear that today or tonight will be any better. The CG is extremely nice though and the owners are very kind. Just wish with all the sites available they would have kept them spaced away from others especially with COVID.
Great place to spend a couple of days. Owners are very gracious/helpful, the views are worth the stay, and sites are spacious with very good facilities.
We had an excellent stay here. The owners were friendly even though we rolled in kind of late. The bath house was great (hot water and sparkling clean). Peaceful and quiet, nice and cool. They had a lot of beautiful hummingbirds too.
We originally booked for an overnight stop but decided to extend another day. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Small hilltop park right off of interstate 25. It is small but had no trouble maneuvering my 36 foot 5th wheel. Didnt use the WIFI or bath house so cant comment on those. Just wish the Cafe was open but I understand with COVID restrictions they choose to keep it closed. We would stay again and recommend.
Wonderful park!! We have a 44ft Class A and no problem finding us a great spot. Beautiful views and the owners helped us out immensely by suggesting great places for sightseeing. Well DEFINITELY visit again 😊 Sparkling clean facilities as well.
This is a great place to stay.. Great atmosphere.. Awesome view..
Jul 2014. A lovely, quiet, and clean private park (formerly Cedar Rail) at the top of Raton Pass. Whew, we made it! Level gravel sites and beautiful vista across the valley and down to the Pass. Great WiFi, but dont download or play games. Spotless combined laundry, restroom, and shower facility. For an extra treat, they have homemade and reasonably priced dinners and scratch desserts. Would definitely stay here again!
A last minute stay for us on our way to Colorado. Host was very accommodating, price was fair. The bath house was very clean and well maintained. Pretty mountain views, some highway noise, but campground was quiet. Good stop for a night or two.
Great place to visit, with fantastic views, the owners are the best, stayed 7 days, but the altitude got to me at almost 8000 ft, and had to leave because my body would not adjust I guess it was just me my wife had no problem. Please check it out, registration only, no drive ins.
Stayed 3 nights. At the top of Raton Pass at the Colorado/New Mexico border. Great views toward Sugarite Canyon out our rear door and dinette window. Just off I-25 but nice and quiet. Escorted to our site and helped with backing in. Restroom, Shower, Laundry building spotless with good hot water. Lots of humming birds enjoying the flowers growing around the upper area. Saw a doe and her faun near the swing set. We had dinner from the cafe two evenings, homemade and large serving sizes. Friendly owners and staff. Will definitely stay here again.
We stayed a week, the campground is well maintained, bathhouse spotless as well as the laundry. The place is quiet at night and the owners were so nice. The spot is an easy on and off I 25 to go North into Colorado or South into Raton New Mexico.
Its a nice place to stay. Its not big, but very comfortable. The facilities are clean and well maintained. The rate is very reasonable compared to other places that offer less. The Wifi is about par for an RV park. I would stay here again.I have read some poor reviews about this place, but each to their own. You just cant make everyone happy. My wife and I loved this place.
Very clean park and beautiful view.Laundry area and showers were very clean.Would definitely stay here again.
Loved this cozy nest perched atop the hill at southbound exit 460 and weigh station. Place was clean orderly; quiet; and friendly accommodating checkin. Place for doggies yo sniff and do their biz; laundry and bathhouse immaculate; great place for layover on our way south. Trinidad is close enough to do supply run.
Great little place to stay the night. We had the place to ourselves. The bathrooms were spotless, the park was very clean. The owners were great. $36 will stay again.
Love this campground. Well maintained, friendly staff and quiet. In between Raton NM and Trinidad CO. Cooler temps because of altitude. Enjoying the wildlife that wanders through the park.
Located on Raton Pass. We called last minute on a Saturday hoping to stay one night. They had two spots available on the lower level with water / electricity and staff would meet us in the office for our late arrival. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The grounds were very clean and well kept. Sites are level (all but the lower overflow have full hook ups) and a staff member shows you where to go and helps you park. The view is magnificent from the top level with many sites that back up to enjoy the view from your rear window. We did not use the laundry / bath & shower facilities but walked through noticing they were kept extremely clean as well.
Good rates, great views, nice place, nice people. Cafe isnt open after Labor Day. Laundry machines are less than adequate. Overall, well be back.
We had a beautiful visit here. We plan on visiting again.
I made a reservation and put down a deposit on my credit card. Due to unforeseen circumstances I had to cancel the reservation. When I called I was told that I would be sent a cancellation e-mail and my credit card would be credited and it would be done the following day. I never received the e-mail and my credit card has not been credited. When I called about it I was told to stop badgering them about it in a very ugly voice. Do not make a reservation at this campground.
Very disrespectful no good service all I wanted was to be treated right and they do not have to do that .Im not satisfied with the way these people were acting towards me and I feel very offended please do not go to this place because the service is horrible and they do not know how to treat people right
We had reservations but because of a funeral we could not leave to get there till mid afternoon. We called and said we would be late. The lady answering the phone was rude and informed us that we had to be there before dark. Wish we could have done that but impossible. Told us to call back at dark and she would tell us where to park. Called back and she again reminded us we should have been there by dark but she would text the details. The text my wife got was clear on directions but did not give spot to park in. We texted back and asked what spot we were to be in and lady texted that there was two spots left and if we pulled into one of those we most likely couldnt turn around. We texted again and asked for the spot where we could get in and out of. She replied we should follow her directions and she was turning off her phone. I did not realize that the lady had texted my phone with the pad number, but I was driving and did not find the text till after we stopped in Clayton. We decided that with such outrageous behavior we didnt want to stay there. The lady had made it clear there was no refund. Never would we ever reserve a spot there, particularly since nothing we read said anything about being there being before dark rule.We found a very nice RV park in Clayton, New Mexico and spent the night there. Worth the extra cost. If you stay at the Raton Pass RV park be sure to follow all the unwritten rules and get there before DARK.Larr Burton
The lady that took us to our site was so rude and didn’t allow us to sit on our own site without a mask. The camp sites are super tiny. This place is horrible, would not recommend.
Extremely busy and well maintained boutique park. Stunning views, wonderful camp hosts and staff.
Bathrooms are wonderful, hot water takes a few mins to get hot.otherwise a pleasant environment.nice laundry room in bathroom area scenery is also beautiful.Thats about all tho. WiFi not so great. no cafe as advertised.
Called to ask some questions about the facilities. Woman who answered the phone was rude and hung up on me.Called back and a man answered the phone, refused to identify himself and also hung up on me.If this is the way they treat potential customers I dont really want to find out anything else.
Made reservations 2 hrs ahead of arrival and got the normal confirmation. Pulled in at 10pm with our 4 kids and a friend. After being directed to our site and we began to get out, she quickly accused us of not telling her the correct number of people in our party. My husband told her that we DID give her the right number/ages in our party and asked if she was accusing us of lying. She said we were rude and could just drive out of here right now. After showing her the confirmation that showed exactly the number/ages in our party proving she was in the wrong she stormed off. Obviously this woman was drunk and we could smell alcohol on her breath and her behavior was ridiculous! We did not stay there that night and were happy to find somewhere else to sleep!
The owner was rude and unhelpful to accommodate an extra vehicle despite our reservations that were made and paid for weeks in advance. Maybe she was upset we interrupted her happy hour as she and 2 other men were drinking cocktails when we arrived about 4:45pm. We were willing to pay for an additional site to accommodate the extra truck, but she was so unkind and downright rude we decided to leave. Ater spending over 10 years traveling and staying at MANY, MANY campgrounds, she is, by far, the most rude and mean person we have ever dealt with at any campground. Het restaurant was unsuitable to open, not sure why. A plaque she had posted behind her sums up het attitude Treat me the same way you would treat any other QUEEN
Cafe was closed when we wanted coffee. Was at 815 am on a wednesday. No coffee anywhere nearby.
The people there were friendly and helped is locate a dependable mechanic.
Spotless, unique top of the pass location at the New Mexico & Colorado state line, in New Mexico, 23 sites, gorgeous views.
Great park...level gravel areas...easy hookups...showers & bathrooms & laundry areas...very clean...great views.
Great place, really nice people. The bathrooms and showers are unbelievably clean.
Beautiful Campground, frindly and quit space love it .
The owner is very rude and talks to you like your a child.
Their website says closed for the season. Cant wait to try this place out in the spring.
