Great bookstore with many signing events.
A neighborhood hallmark, we love stopping in to browse or buy. Staff is always friendly and eager to help!
Trendy book store - Authors come here 1st when on book tour. Owners are so nice. True book lovers work here. Also has cards, local community items and toys for kids including legos. Can get signed books and memorabilia here too. Great for the whole family. My go to store when I want a physical book or gift.
Fantastic local bookstore with tons of author signing events
Extremely minimal inventory, Indifferent staff person. You would think there would be a little more effort made to welcome and please customers who might otherwise buy on Amazon and the like.
I love this local bookshop. The sales people are so helpful. If they dont have a book, theyll order it for you. Shop small, shop local ❤️
Excellent Customer Service. My daughter was looking for a book at Target and Barnes and Noble and I said why not call that place in Ridgewood and sure enough they had it and even put one aside for her. They were nice enough to even look up another book I was interested in and special order it but its no longer in print. Thats the kind of service I like.
Im so disappointed. I love supporting local businesses. But when Covid hit, they canceled a book signing by Hillary Clinton. I totally understand canceling. However I paid for three people to attend. They said they would not refund the money! Which is unusual, when a venue cancels. But I even let that go because they said they would send the signed books. Here we are almost a year later and I never received books, nor instructions to get the books. So basically they stole my money. We all had a hard time during the beginning of covid, trying to figure things out... but 10 months is alot of time to make things right. Sorry I trusted the little store. B&N might have charged more... but they would have kept their word.
No comics. dissapointing
Im pretty impressed how many stars they have there from actors, actresses, all types of sports stars. The prices are very reasonable, all you have to do is purchase a book and the celebrity will sign it. The only downfall is that you will have to wait outside
Great place to go for autographed books.
I love coming here for book signings. They have so many great authors that come to sign books. I would suggest per-ordering your book so you know you will get one. And just a little hint, you can come towards the end of the event to have your book signed so you dont have to wait in the line for ever. Especially because it ques up outside.
Attended a book signing recently and was forced through the signing. Had absolutely no time to speak to the author, nor were photos allowed. Not to mention that the staff was somewhat rude and pushy. After the signing, I went upstairs into the shop to browse the selection of books. I picked out a few more books that I was going to purchase in addition to the signed book that I bought. Before I checked out, my friend asked if they had a bathroom. We were told yes and my friend was guided to stand on the line. (Granted, she was going to purchase several books herself.) I continued to browse while she waited and ended up picking up (another) book. After a few moments of waiting online, my friend was asked to leave and use the bathroom at the Starbucks down the block. Seriously? As a result we put all of the books we were going to purchase back and left empty handed. I will not be returning to another signing, nor will I be shopping there again. As much as I love to support small book stores, I will be taking my business back to Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Really cool book shop. They host impressive events! Ive been to book signings/meet and greets, and had the pleasure of meeting Gregg Allman, Joe Perry, Lorraine Bracco, Gene Simmons, and Paul Stanley! Located in a convenient and lovely town, Ridgewood, NJ.
So lucky to have an independent bookstore nearby! I appreciate how hard they work to stock whats relevant to the community. And any time I need a special order, I receive it with a courteous phone call. Thank you
I absolutely love this little bookstore. I have never gone here to shop but have attended a few book signings. The store hosts book signings by many celebrities, both small and major, from many different interests. The book signings have long lines but are extremely organized and orderly. You pre-order the book and then pick it up before getting on line for the signing. The book signings don’t cost more than the book unless it’s for a major political figure.
While their niche as a store is authors appearing for autograph sessions, it is so much more than that. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. If they dont have something in stock they will find it and order it for you. Highly recommended!
Great small town store feel with the best guest speakers that rival NYC!
This store is amazing there was a little bit of a mix-up I live in Massachusetts this is in Ridgewood New Jersey Bruce Dickinson the lead singer of Iron Maiden was doing a book signing and you had to buy the book of there the mix-up was when I got there they did not have a book for me and they were sold out the owner heard me talking to the woman at the desk and she came in and said Im going to sell you this book they went above and beyond and I was able to meet my idol speak to him face-to-face and it was the proud owner of not just his life story but his signature as well
A intimate venue that fosters connections between authors and readers, be they brief or long lasting. I should know. I met Sasha Pieterse for the signing of her book, Sasha In Good Taste. Shes Alison DiLaurentis from one of my favorite shows, Pretty Little Liars. Needless to say, a dream come true.
Fantastic selection of books and book signing events. Well organized by friendly employees.
Here is what you need to know.Prices are higher for the same books I have found on Amazon.Customer service isnt there. For the higher prices I would expect someone to come up and ask if I need any service or have any questions. This has never happened in at least six separate trips over the years. Staff just sits behind the counter and gossips with each other.Selection is okay but this is still a brick and mortar place so it is quite limited compared to Amazon.Great store if you forgot to buy something far enough in advance and need it right now in time for a birthday or something. They also carry Lego sets.
Love going here for book signings. Always has interesting things.
During a signing event for The Great One my wife, who is temporarily handicapped was sought out and given sitting with others at the head of the line which was unexpected. It gave us an opportunity to observe the operation during a busy event from a great vantage point. It was impressive. It ran so smooth and at the same time so very welcoming to a diverse set of folks that came from substantial distances to attend. It was a real pleasure and has just earned a must stop by on my itinerary when visiting friend and relatives in the area. Fabulous job and the prices are very competitive with B&N and Engulf & Devour. Thanks, Book Ends
They have great prices but not so many books.
Terrible bookstore. I ordered a signed copy of Newt Gingrichs book, Trumps America for a gift. I received 2 books and they charged my credit card 2x. When I contacted this store for assistance (Gingrich Productions website links to them), the owner, Pat Boyer argued with me and stated in one email, Enough of your denial... She/he said after I threatened to leave a bad review they would credit my account and asked me to send the duplicate book back (which I said I would do). Days later when there was no credit and I followed up (and copied Gingrich Productions) I was told I must send the book back and then I would be credited. Why should I have to pay shipping, packaging and return receipt mail for their mistake and get an attitude for my trouble? I couldnt trust the erratic behavior of Pat Boyer, so I am keeping the book but will get my moneys worth copying this review everywhere I can. Dont buy a book from here or Gingrich Productions!!! Obviously both could care less about customer service. BTW, I read all the reviews- its apparent they post fake positive reviews to balance out the real ones.
Small but legendary bookstore that frequently hosts book signings with relevant authors.
We were passing by and saw this bookstore. Much as I expected. When you come to these places, you realise that that still there are people who have passion for reading. For this the books are displayed very well. Little children there eyes light up when they see books. For me too some of the same feelings.
I just called for information on the Jessica Simpson book signing and the guy who answered the phone was SO RUDE! I had a few questions and while I was asking them he interrupted me to say, Are you interested or not? Dont you hear the other phone lines ringing in the back? I didnt hear them and his poor customer service made me realize, why would I ever want to support a business with rude customer service.
I went in looking for coffee table books. The 2 staff members could not have been bothered to even stop their conversation. I interrupted with my statement that I was looking for a coffee table type book with lots of pictures. They looked at me, didnt say anything and went back to their conversation.Needless to say, I left without purchasing and will stick to Amazon.
Always amazing authors and events. Its a gem of a local bookstore.
It was very exciting to meet Mark Levin there. A great American.
Amazing owners. Very friendly and helpful. Great selection. Smooth and efficient book signing events!
I enjoy the small bookstore atmosphere and shopping for books with my daughters. The celebrity Signings are always fun. I especially like when they have Q &A sessions. My only gripe is sometimes it feels a bit rushed. And the downstairs area where we wait for autographs can get really warm--need better ventilation down there.
Ordered a signed copy of the Biden memoir. They cannot get him to show up but brag about getting Nikki Six there instead, what a joke. My copy was never delivered and when I called to inquire they treated me poorly and sounded very suspicious as if they were questioning the veracity of my statement. So after being gouged for this book, I have nothing to show for it and not sure if they are doing anything to remedy this situation. Now I know why Amazon is thriving, they understand customer service.
Great book signing with Paul Stanley. Nice helpful employees
Was happy that the books for pre signed and got to take a nice photo with Paul Stanley! Staff was very nice and helpful
Came here to get Geddy Lees autograph on his new book. Large crowd but the event was run in an orderly fashion. They shouldve put up a tent in the adjacent lot so most of the crowd didnt have to wait in sub freezing temps.
In poor taste to have a book signing with Theresa Guidice, especially since you must purchase a book to attend the event. The famous NJ/Government tax scofflaw hawking her book after committing a crime and Bookends is right there to promote this felon. I really hope the IRS sends a representative to the event, as shes been known to charge cash for an autograph and then stuff the money into a silk bag.Shame on Bookends, theres got to be a more honest and deserving author out there, you just dont seem to care anymore.
Nice venue to meet authors & celebs...
Went to a book signing event, every thing was well organized, the staff was great with the number of people at the event, no problems. Great little book store.
Great local book store. They not only get some big name authors and celebrities in but they also support the local authors. The stock a wide selection of books and whatever you dont see on the shelves can be ordered.
Paul Stanley (Kiss) book signing was amazing.
Im giving it 2 stars because they have and can get any book, But I went to one of the signings and the people who work there just want to rush everyone out. I know like any other person it gets late and you want to rest but if you cant handle it dont book it.
Yesterday, I had the honor of meeting Chris Colfer at Bookends and I just had to make a google plus account to write a review for it. Bookends, thank you so much for yesterday. It was 105 degrees outside, but the bookends employees went around with trash bags and bottles of water for everyone, they even let the first two rows of people inside about 2 hours early to get things moving. Well-organized event, a beautiful and interesting store full of cool autographed posters, and caring and considerate staff. Thank you Bookends!!
Absolutely the worst managed store I have ever experienced. Miscommunication and an unapologetic staff made this a terrible experience for my family, especially my 6 year old daughter. BEWARE and STAY AWAY from this terrible establishment.
Great place to go for celebrity book signings.
Attended a great book signing of Speaker Newt Gingrich.
I love going there for book signing events! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Great book signing today with Geddy Lee of Rush. Well organized, staff friendly.
Great book signing venue. Well organized, staff friendly.
Great experience, very courteous staff. Met a personal hero!!
Great book store, lots of famous people here signing their books.
One of my favorite book stores and always have wonderful author signings
Great local bookstore. Not many like these left. They get great authors for signings as well.
Ive been to this store a few times now, and Ive always been amazed at the level of celebrity authors theyve gotten - President Clinton, Ace Frehley, Billy Idol to name a few... Thats enough of a reason to give them 5 stars, but they have also been really nice to local authors and their customers... I hope this great bookstore sticks around a long long while...
Went to a paul Stanley signing April 29th figured it would cheer up my depressed wife bought two books waited 6 hours which we didnt mind and their photographer took two photos of me and my wife complaining about our cameras because he was a moron I saw how he took the photos moving and in a rush they were both horrible when I went out to complain to management I forgot the ladys name she was nasty and for awhile would not make us take the photo over I told her the situation that we spent $70 I didnt have one good photo with with an attitude she took my wife downstairs they did the photo over it was worse than the other two theyre in a rush me and my wife went home i wanted to complain again because at this point i was angry but my wife was tired and not feeling well we will never go back again think about it we waited 6 hours and the photographer couldnt spend a couple of extra seconds taking a photo will call them tomorrow morning to complain again do yourself a favor people take your own photos thanks bookends for making a promising day turn out so bad by the way its the day after and I called the bookstore to complain to a manager he was busy at the time told the lady which listened to my story took my name and number for the manager to call back well to no ones surprise I never got a call I rest my case.
Went there for Jackie Chan book signing but two big guys were crowding the table preventing any good photo ops. Youre only allowed one selfie while the book is getting signed which prevents any interaction.
Okay. very very upset and disappointed. i took my 3 girls to meet a celebrity who i will not name at this store to get her book signed and they sold out of books very quickly. poor organization and very disorderly. do not recommend. rude staff.
Love this book store. The owners are super nice and they always have book signings with great authors.
Worst bookstore ever. Horrible event management, rude staff, high prices.
Very disappointed in how customers are treated at the book signings. I will give some credit for allowing as many of us they could in the signing area on the lower level a bit early because we were freezing cold outside in the lines that noone understood how they were looped.Books already had labels with names and were given to us when we checked in. Before getting to the signer, in this case Geddy Lee books are taken and signed before you get to the table. My book was signed and sitting to the side while the person in front of me was getting his book. I felt hugely let down. As a fan for 35+ years who paid $80 for a book and signing experience I felt like Bookends was rushing me and everyone else out. I felt like that because they were.It was apparently expected that everyone just walk by Geddy, say nothing, take the book that you can not have the satisfaction of watching the guest sign, during an event signing we paid for and get out. Get out means get out, not wait for your friend who is directly behind you in line. Then get chased down by a woman with scissors to cut off the wrist band.I did take a moment to thank Geddy for the music I have loved for most of my life & got a fist bump, but man in those 10 seconds the men overseeing this verbalized their anger with my actions.Im a reasonable person who understands schedules and that we all cant chat with the guest, but this was a huge let down and I will never drive that distance again & pay the gas and several tolls to be treated like a herd of cattle. This was the feelings of everyone who went before and after me.Advice for photos: If youre not alone have a friend go after the person behind you. They can photograph for you and you can quickly for them before getting kicked out. This is a must for a photo as my friend took pics for me. I got my book, turned to photo for her (10 seconds tops) she was booted away with her book that was signed already before she got to him.I am grateful for the chance to see Geddy in person, but will never spend any further money in this store for live signings or purchase of an already autographed book.
BEST PLACE FOR A BOOK SIGNING ANYWHERE!!! HANDS DOWN...
Friendly staff, great book signings.
They made us wait on line for 3 hours in the freezing cold for a meet-and-greet sort of thing and we didnt even get to talk to the person. NEVER GO HERE. This place is a nightmare.
I can always get lost on their shelves. Whoever does the buying for this independent bookstore had great taste.
Very nice store. Many authors appear here for signings.
Not accessible but the accommodation was great.
Great events and selection!
I have been to this Bookends location twice for 2 separate book signings. The first was Joan Rivers in June 2012 and the second was Kendall and Kylie Jenner just today as I write this. (6/3/14) Everything was fine with the way they handled the Joan Rivers event but with the Kendall and Kylie event everyone was rushed. I wanted to talk to the girls for another minute or two but I was forced away after 1 maybe 2 minutes but it felt like 20 seconds. I dont think its professional to rush a person when talking with the celebrity (s) signing his or her book. I understand you cant be there for 5 or more minutes but 2-3 minutes maximum should be allowed. The only other thing I did not like about the Jenner event is they didnt allow fans to take posed pictures with the sisters.
Great place to meet authors
Small but beautiful book store
Great place to meet celebs!
Small place, doesnt have a lot of books in availability, can be pricey.
Cute store! Great local place
Very nice book store.
Small but has almost any book you would need.
The manager of this store is not helpful or friendly.
No books waste time
This is the place I met Hillary Clinton. She signed my book; Hard Decisions.
Quant bookstore.
The staff tends to be unfriendly.
Offers a wide variety of literature from comic books to non-fiction.
Great variety and customer service.
Came to the jullian Lennon book signing and they ran out of books....really...poor planning..
The best!
Good place to buy
Kane was awesome
But unfortunately they are close
