DELICIOUS food(large portions!), courteous staff with an amazing view!! Short Story - Flew into NY from CA and driving to Boston for a wedding. As were driving through Connecticut, hunger hit. Found Lakeside diner, met the owner Jane and than the food is amazing. Janes warm welcome and friendliness in combination with the cleanliness of the diner made this one of the best diners Ive ever been to.P.S. TRY THE DONUTS!
We found this diner by accident and now whenever we are heading north from Long Island we try to stop, usually for breakfast. The food is always good and fresh. We have only had breakfast food such as omelets and pancakes and they are always hot and tasty. It can get crowded but you can alwayslook at the ducks and geese on the lake. There need to be more places like this. You can only pay cash but prices are reasonable.
If youre into old style diners you will really like Lakeside! Great value and very friendly staff ... Plus you can chill inside or out by the lake ... Enjoy!
Its all about the donuts. You will not find a better donut in the area, the state, or maybe even the country. They are best when fresh, but good all day.
My husband and I go to Lakeside every week for their consistently delicious breakfast. The prices are fantastic and the service is great. This is easily our favorite diner in Stamford. Try the Lakeside Special, and be sure to bring cash to pay (there is a ATM in the plaza).
Number one; really great Donuts. Breakfast plates we had were good, but not great. The hash was edible but it looks like they use sliced deli corned beef just diced up. Nevertheless its a pretty cool little place to have breakfast. Also they serve their toast dry so you would have to ask them to butter your toast when you order.
Not sure what happened to this place. I believe there may me different owners than a few years ago. The service here is terrible. We stood here for 10 minutes. Had to ask for a table. Wanted to eat outside but there is no service out there. The waitress gave me such a hard time about letting me look at the menu before I decided to eat in or out. One of the waitress gave me an attitude and said out loud “Oh my god”. Like I was an inconvenience there. All the customers looked at my face when she said that. We simply just walked out. I am in the Restaurant and Hospitality business for 30 years and this place base no idea how to treat customers. Will never go back. This was a good place a few years ago. It’s a shame how some good places are let go.
A Coke zero and a hotdog with fries was 13.50. It was a special hotdog on a hamburger bun. WTH This place is a rip off. Cash only, who carries cash anymore. They need to get with the technology today. Credit, Debit

Its a nice cute place, the food was good and tasty. I had ordered the pastrami sandwich and there was so much meat in it, loved it. Also the eggs and other sandwich was good. The place is small inside, but they have good outdoor space.
The food is great but I’ve recently experience a bad visit I was standing I line for over 10 minutes and the lady is helping all the white customers behind me as I am talking to her saying good morning I’m next she just totally ignored me and continued to help the people behind me! The lady at the front counter didn’t want to hear what I had to say very poor customer service the lady with the white hair did give me my food for free ! I love the food but I no longer feel comfortable going here
So much less than it could be, charming setting and interesting sounding menu items dont make up for the tasteless omelette/potatoes & absolutely terrible coffee. The homemade sugar donut was better than expected but nothing to rave about.
Fantastic! I didnt know it was a hot spot when we pulled up (looking for any sustenance at that point). Staff is quick and friendly. No wait, pretty view. Black bean omelet was great-home fries were very tasty. And oh my goodness, I am forever thankful I made myself snag a cinnamon sugar donut for the road (was too full to eat it there) because holly hell was it good! Beautifully brown on the outside and FLUFFY in the middle! A singular donut experience, for sure. No pictures because I cleaned my plate. Not sorry

Terrible service!!!!! Terrible!We arrived here and they set us in a side table, 2 minutes later a couple left the lake view table (2 seats), so I asked if we could go there. The lady said we couldn’t because a “party” was coming and they needed to get the table together. I am leaving now, no group arrived here.He ordered a “Jason Omelette” for him, “Lakeside Special” for me, a donut, and a side of bacon. His omelet was a little bit dry, my food was perfect. They didn’t refill our coffee, even we asking for the second time.... the waitress kind of ignored us.

I had a Grecian omelette and was cold and missing taste, the “hash browns” were potato pieces cooked but not really hash rows plus too few.We went there for the recommended donuts so we ordered 4. They were ok.My son got French toast. It was too plain.I don’t like being harsh but really disenchanted with the dinner. Plus is cash only and this is really inconvenient when one just drops by.
Great breakfast/lunch spot. That staff are professional and truly enjoy serving you! The hot dogs with chili are a must have.
What a pleasant, very simple little slice of 50s - 60s type menu and decor with a huge glass window looking out at the lake right under your feet.
This place is a most stop. Get their home made doughnuts. If you get there before 9am their a nice and warm off the oven. Their donuts french toast with nutella are simply delicious. We found this place via Google maps while driving to see family. It was so good the we stopped on both way. Saturday morning while heading south, we got breakfast and on Sunday afternoon while heading back home we stopped for lunch. The pastrami sandwich was delicious. I called an order in for french toast, crispy bacon and extra powdered sugar. Besides forgetting the powdered sugar, the French toast was soggy and it cost $16!! Way too expensive. The lady who took my order was great only I thought $16 was way to expensive for French toast!I wont be going back anytime soon.
The food and atmosphere was great. Very busy but not a long wait. Well worth being there. Will gladly go back.
What originally started as an office favorite has now during covid turned into a family favorite. Its a 15 minute drive but well worth it. Their customer service both on the phone and in-person is on point! Their cider donuts are a must!! Coffee and cider donuts to kick off our family Sunday road trip to a soccer game..thank you Lakeside! **remember cash only and tip the staff, they deserve it!
A very Small, Well Hidden,Small Town Feel Dinner.....I Personally Thought $10.97 for a omelet is a little high, especially since the omelet Does Not Include Cheese & I Had To Pay A $1 Extra to Add it & Pay For Coffee Separately..However with that being said, I will say its Delicious.. & The Coffee Was Strong Like I Like It, The Waitress Was Kind & Smiled The Whole Time. Their was a Green Lake Swamp, That is Visible Threw The Windows, & Keeps Funny Conversations Going About The Possibility Of Alligators & Ducks...lol.. Honestly I Enjoyed The Feel Of The Dinner, & Its Small Town Layed Back Feel.
I watching the tower of fresh donuts come out of the kitchen and we each needed one as an hors d oeuvre. Chicken soup was just perfect for the day!

Are you kidding... look at that plate of smoked salmon! What you should gather from this photo is the portion sizes are appropriate, the smoked salmon is quality, and they use actually “diner mugs”. I subbed out the bagel for two slices of whole wheat toast (no butter). Also, the pancakes being served around me look outrageously delicious... I was kinda envious... NOTE - there is normally a wait... so be prepared but not deterred!

Food was okay but the service was horrible!The server missed the orders. They take awfully long time and demand only cash payments.They make you pay at the front desk and are very rude with the customers.
We were out visiting from California and our friend brought us by for breakfast on our last day and it did not disappoint! I got the Grecian omelette and donuts, all of it tasted great! I love the view of the lake and we got to see quite a few animals out there. The only thing not fantastic about the diner was the children from hell sitting behind me — but that just incidental and other than that I will definitely be revisiting if I am ever in the area again!
Stopped here randomly and am very glad i did! The doughnuts are AMAZING. I ordered a BLT for lunch and got a side doughnut since they seem to be a specialty. The BLT was very good as was the doughnut...I even ordered a couple for the road.

A hidden gem. You dont find many more of these diners that have that classic diner ambiance. The food is simply amazing especially the homemade donuts made on premises daily. Its a must try if youre in the area.
After hearing about this place from several people, all of them saying how good the donuts were, it was time to check this place out. Unfortunately, by time we arrived they were out of donuts, and there would be no more. I ordered the Lakeside Special, which came with 2 eggs (I went with over medium), french toast, home fries, toast, and your choice of bacon or sausage. I thought it was very good, and reasonably priced (this was $8.95)I wish I would have done a bit more research though, because it turns out this place is cash only. There was no obvious sign inside that I could see that stated this, but was informed by the server that it was cash or check only, and that there was an ATM at the bank nextdoor. I mean really, its 2019 and youre located in a city. Why cant we accept cards...? Square/Clover/etc make it super easy for any business to accept cards. Luckily we had some cash with us.Overall, I was pleased. The food was good. And everyone keeps talking about the donuts so Ill have to visit earlier in the day next time.

As expected delicious food. I just had a chicken salat sandwich and my wife ate the Mexican omlet... I have enjoyed many delicious breakfasts and luches at Lakeside Diner last 25 years! Highly recommended. Friendly atmosphere, must have sugar donuts... although you can eat inside we ate inside our car watching birds at tge lake...

Best homemade donuts this side of the Mississippi River. And the blueberry pancakes are stellar.They are open for business (temporarily just take-out) and I encourage you to visit so that may all enjoy this gem well into the future!

A favorite long time stop if Im in North Stamford at breakfast or lunch time .... and worth going out of the way for! A pretty setting with big window looking out on lake with all kinds of water birds to see. Food is very good and service is good - small spot can get crowded at times. Get out of the city and relax while you eat!!! It is perfect for what it claims to be and just what I want when I visit
CASH ONLY! In 2020 cash only places are very behind the times. None the less food came out quickly and service was good. Eggs were cooked well and home fries were pretty spot on.

I love this place. Its small and gets crowded but the wait is well worth it. The food is great. The appe cider donuts are delicious. And we havent had pancakes as delicious as these. Everything tastes really home made.
An institution in this area. Famous for homemade donuts that sell out quickly. Food is good, prices are reasonable, the corned beef hash is homemade and fantastic. My only gripes are that the place has too many tables for its size (it is quite small), so you feel packed in like a sardine. And they could use a good cosmetic makeover, maybe even just some new paint.

The Lakeside Diner is one of my favorite Diners. Beautiful lakeside dining and awesome staff. Tons of wildlife to enjoy just outside the lake facing window. Delicious food and the best donuts Ive had in a long time.This diner is an old school diner and and totally worth a try.Conveniently located right off the Merrit Parkway.
Extensive menu. Good food. Mom (who is very picky about coffee) kept complimenting the decaf. Nice atmosphere. Good view out the plate glass window. Prompt, friendly service. The small space does get pretty noisy, though, with clattering plates and people talking over each other.
Was great the 1st time but 2nd time the corn beef hash was overcooked and the steak was cold. I like the corned beef hash with chunks in it and not overcooked.

Pleasant. Seating is a bit tight, tables for a couple dozen and counter space for another 15 or 20.it is lakeside, 4 plate glass windows overlooking the water. Staff were friendly and attentive. Seem to be known for their breakfast and donuts.Low carb Turkey omelette was very good as was the crispy side order of bacon and the coffee. Other dishes,burgers,wraps,fries seemed to get positive responses. Not my last time there.
