Went on a Friday night for my girlfriend and myself birthday dinner. Dining room was great we had a window table with a great view of lower Manhattan. The restaurant is literally under the Brooklyn Bridge. It was a price fixed menu with some very hard choices. I had the octopus and duck and toasted almond dessert. She had the oysters beef and Brooklyn Bridge dessert. All courses were excellent and very tasty. Wait staff was courteous and attentive. Well worth the experience we were not rushed out the door as I had 2 cups of coffee before we walked around the garden and dock area. There is also valet parking for those that drive in . Highly recommend for a special occasion. They asked for vaccine proof at the door (as of the day this is posted) you can show your card or a phone app if you have. What an experience! From walking through a fairy light filled path, to the aesthetics of the decor and beautiful water front view. This place really left a mark. It felt like for a night we sat at an elegant European restaurant by the water. I don’t usually prefer small plate dining but my boyfriend wanted to go here for his 21st and the menu did not disappoint. Everything the chef brought in had exquisite flavor. I felt like I was in the movie ratatouille. We started off with complimentary plates from the chef. We each were allowed one appetizer, entree, and dessert. Even though the portions weren’t as big as usual we enjoyed and were very full by dessert. Overall, we had a very romantic evening this place is worth the hype.

It really couldn’t get nicer than this dining experience here. We went for my fathers 60th birthday and it did not disappoint in the least. The tasting menu was absolutely delicious, and the views make you feel like you are in a Woody Allen film. This is an incredibly expensive dinner, but for the right experience it is all worth it. I still consider this the best overall dining experience in my life.

Wonderful place, amazing view, elite contingent! we did not plan to visit this restaurant that day, but when we were nearby we could not pass by. the only thing I regret was that I was not sufficiently solemnly dressed for this institution - after all, all those present were in evening dresses and a tuxedo. when entering, men must be dressed in a tuxedo, if you do not have one, then you will be offered a tuxedo from the establishment for the evening and this is great, it’s a pity that it doesn’t work for an evening dress! we had a wonderful evening! and yes, book in advance to get a more beautiful view by the window!

Lovely atmosphere, great food, but incredibly small portions. The food was great, but neither the appetizers nor the main course were filling. The sea bass that I had was maybe a 1/4 inch thick and the size of a small hand. Thankfully, the dessert was large, but I would have personally preferred more of the other dishes.Overall, a romantic place to go for a special occasion, but really not the best bang for your buck. I get that overhead costs must be crazy expensive for this location, but Id like to not feel like I need a second meal after paying $170.

We recently had our wedding reception at River Cafe and had the best day of our lives! Alyson and the team were so easy to work with and worked great with my wedding planner as well. They were so responsive and attentive and made sure our special day was perfect. We received compliments all evening on the beautiful location, skyline, food, garden, and the highest quality service. We had a wedding of 80 people and had plenty of room for a dancefloor. It was a magical night, and friends of ours were saying the location was out of a movie. We will never forget our wedding at the River Cafe!!

The food was okay but not pleasant with the whole dining experience. Our server was not really attentive the entire time. They even forgot little details like putting a candle on the dessert and they knew it was my birthday. I had a high expectation going in since it’s supposed to be a Michelin star restaurant but we definitely did not receive the Michelin star service. Also after dinner I started feeling that we were just treated unequally because of something else. In my opinion, a good restaurant should treat their customers equally regardless of who they are, and it’s not like we paid less than everybody else. There are so many good restaurants in NYC and I will definitely not come back to this one.

The food is great from appetizer to dessert. If there is one complaint I have, probably is the serving - I know I shouldnt be expecting big servings from a 4-year in-a-row Michelin place like this but hey, maybe add 1 more slice of the steak 😉.... Btw For those who are driving I was surprised valet parking is free!!! So this is an opportunity to be overly generous with the tip.

If you’re looking for a special night out with your loved ones, STAY AWAY from this place. We went to The River Cafe for dinner to celebrate our anniversary while on our NYC getaway trip. My husband requested a window-side table with the view of the NYC skyline when he made the reservation. The woman told him over the phone that they do not take advanced table requests such as that. When we arrived for our reservation, there were four empty tables at the window with the view that they advertise on their website. We were thrilled and asked the hostess if she could seat us at one of those available tables. She said that she could not accommodate our request and then took us to a table in the far back corner of the restaurant! I asked the hostess why she couldn’t seat us at those window tables? She very rudely replied that those tables are reserved for “regulars.”So there we sat in the far back corner of the restaurant with NO VIEW of the river or city skyline to celebrate our anniversary. Two other couples were sat crammed on either side of us. One couple was celebrating their 5 year anniversary and the other couple was celebrating a birthday. Sadly, we were all sat in the back with no special experience from this horrible place.Unless you’re a “regular” of the River Cafe, stay away. We spent over $400 on two meals that we could have bought at Red Lobster for $40. Red Lobster has better tasting food. The food here is nothing special and will leave you hungry. The tiny portions will not fill you up. The staff was unapologetic when we were disappointed in our table. The River Cafe will not make your night a special night to remember. We had a wonderful time visiting NYC and received much better service and special experiences everywhere else except this place. Save yourself the hassle and find your special night to remember somewhere else.

I got a class of Pinot noirThe appetizer I had was the tortelli and my fiance had the octopus.Entree I had the salmon and he had the bass.Dessert was amazing. I was about ready after the entree to leave. I felt like the food was decent but definitely not worth the price but the dessert was all amazingIn all I gave it 4/5 because the food was good but disappointed since the table was small, not a great view and food was ok.Expensive. What an experience! This is my 5th Michelin Star Restaurant that I had the pleasure of eating at but my first in New York. Right by the Brooklyn Bridge, we had a seat by the window with beautiful view, even though there was a little rainy weather and some fog.The valet parking was free here and we arrived a little early where we enjoyed some pre-dinner drinks. I ordered the One Time Peach which was actually quite strong and I wish it was just a tad more peachy but the crispy candy bacon it came with was delicious. Outside waiting and I believe small seating area was a nice view as well of the ferries that were coming in and out of the port.Dinner started off with some bread and Vermont butter followed by an Amuse-bouch which consisted of a bite sized avocado salad, a pink and yellow watermelon cubes and a shallot and tomato gazpacho. My grandmother, mother and I ordered 3 different appetizers, entrees and desserts. It was $160 per person. We also ordered 2 half bottles of wine, a white [2018 Chateu Carbonnieux Pessac-Leognan] which was very crispy and refreshing and a [2018 Sous le Mont Bourgogne Hautes-Cotes De Nuits] which had a bite of acidity pairing with our dinner.Appetizers:Wild Shrimp - 3 shrimps paired well with the white polenta and sweet bell pepperHot Foie Gras - beautifully plated and enjoyed the Strawberry and caramelized onion crepeWaygu Steak Tartare - this was beautifully plated and then mixed together by the server including cognac gelee, mustard, relish and onions. The quail egg had some sea salt which in my opinion wasnt needed for the tartare but overall a great dish.Entrees:Lamb - cooked beautifully at a medium and although Im not an eggplant person, the stuffed baby eggplant was delicious. Sliced thinly, it didnt really taste like eggplant at all.Duck - Medium rare with a crispy skin where the fat was rendered very well. I loved the risotto cake and the crispy Tuscan kale. One of my favorite entrees out of the 3 that we ordered.Black Sea Bass - Another dish with a very crispy skin and cooked very nicely. The white Asparagus and the Lobster croquette went well with the fish and my grandmother really enjoyed it.Desserts:Toasted Almond Semifreddo - The citrus sorbet in my opinion was the best part of the dish. Good Almond flavor though, I didnt have too much of the actual Almond Semifreddo.Chocolate Brooklyn Bridge - Beauitful presentation but a little too sweet for my taste. The poached blueberries did help with the sweetenes and the honey vanilla ice cream wasnt overly sweet either.Pistachio Souffle - my favorite out of the 3 desserts, I absolutely loved the Souffle. It wasnt too sweet and a great Pistachio flavor. The Peach sorbet was amazing and had a strong Peach flavor, would definitely order this again. The service was amazing during dinner, everyone was really attentive. During the pre-dinner drinks, ordering the drinks took a little bit of a wait as there was only one bartender but not a long wait at all. Obtaining the tab and waiting for the valet at the end also took some time but the restaurant was much busier when we left than when we had arrived.2 half bottles of wine, the 3 fixed price per person and 3 pre-dinner drinks came out to about $700. Amazing experience in a cute location.

Full disclaimer: We’ve been to the River Cafe several times post Sandy. Glad to see one of the finer dining institutions reopen from the pandemic. A few changes to note:The food:While the menu is still prix fixe, new plating and noticeable smaller portions esp foie gras appetizer and main course. We must commend the kitchen for executed dishes, not overly seasoned and using quality protein products (e.g. duck breast cooked at perfect temperature, no silver). The desserts were mostly carryover from pre-pandemic: soufflé, chocolate bridge/ganache etc. Definitely get the soufflé!The service:One major change is the ridiculous water taxi traffic overtaking the beautiful, peaceful NYC skyline view outside the window. Sometimes you feel the boats are coming into dock dangerously fast, the boats maneuver in such a way you sit there with an uneasy feeling. I’m sure The River Cafe is trying their best to fight this unsightly distraction but it may be here to stay. Our waiter, Alexander, was a bit green but very nice and did a nice job with service. The verdict:Despite notable changes inside and out, this institution very much represents NYC, destroyed and near total rebuilt post Sandy, shutdown and a reboot post Covid. With hard work and commitment, it’s thriving. The River Cafe is here to stay. Come with deep pockets. It’s the perfect place for that special occasion.

The restaurant is absolutely beautiful, and the food was delicious. Im giving it two stars because of the staff and service. We came in on Wednesday night, it was my birthday, and we were having an early dinner. We sat down and immediately we had negative interactions, on separate occasions, with the original women that greeted us. They were both unpolished, abrupt, and loud. My husband and I just found out that week we were pregnant, and I was a bit cold so I had a long sweater. The woman came over to our table was extremely loud and had an attitude about there being a policy, and she must take my coat. No problem...our issue was the way she spoke to us. Extremely unpolished and a bit obnoxious. Since we were one of the first couples in that evening, we asked if we could move our seat closer to the window, why not ask.. you never know.. and the blonde came over to our table - and instead of discreetly telling us it was reserved, she was just as obnoxious and rude as well. Our waiter saved the day and experience! I believe he was French, but was delightful and really made the experience warm. He offered great drink recommendations and made us feel like we were there to celebrate. As the night progressed, an elderly couple came in, and since we were so close to the bar, we overheard some of the conversations and one of the other female staff members with extremely short hair made a comment about does anyone know how to do the heimlich because they will probably need it. I thought it was really distasteful comment. Its not okay to make fun of patrons. You can tell management puts a ton of thought and time into creating a wonderful experience, but your folks are such a large representation of who you are. I will return again because the food is incredible and hopefully next time the service will be better!

I had a fantastic experience here! First of all, the ambiance is incredible. When we first got the the dining room, there was a wait to be seated, so we decided to go to the outdoor space they had on the water. We took pictures there with Manhattan in the background, which I would certainly recommend doing. Eventually, we were seated and brought a complimentary appetizer to hold us over until our first course arrived. I ended up having the buffalo ravioli as my first course, and it turned out great! The mushrooms that were paired with the ravioli were really good as well. For my main course, I had the steak. Lucky for me, the steak was 12 oz. which is huge, and it was also cooked perfectly and tasted great. I would definitely recommend the steak to anyone who plans on coming here. For my dessert I had the chocolate cake, and my friend had the guava goat cheese cheesecake. As much as I loved the cake, and the Brooklyn Bridge that came with it, I think I favored the guava cheesecake. Overall, the service was pretty good, too. If you do end up going, I’d recommend taking pictures in the garden out front, as well as on their “dock;” they won’t let you down! As a side note, I must mention that they do have a jacket requirement for the gentlemen in the dining room. If you forget to bring one, I believe they will loan you one for the night though.

Food was amazing. Service was excellent. Complimentary appetizers were served. Atmosphere was elegant and sophisticated. Nearly a perfect night.Only thing that could’ve gone better was the seating arrangements. Called a month in advance to see if it was possible to reserve a table on the water. I was told that seating was done first come first serve based on availability. However, upon arriving we saw a table available for on the water and when we asked about it, we’re told by the hostess that the table was reserved for another party. This was a little frustrating seeing as I had specifically called in advance to see if this was possible. Kind of a double standard, like there were two classes of customers.Other than that, everything was great.

At 8:00 in the evening on 7/9, it was a very bad experience. It is a rare experience to come to the United States on a honeymoon with my wife. I originally wanted to experience the Michelin restaurant in New York, as a celebration. We finally arrived at the scene half an hour earlier. When we entered the store, the waiter wanted to help us determine the location. After waiting for a few minutes, we refused to eat because I didn’t wear a suit or tie, but every country originally required formal clothing. Its not the same. I feel a sense of racial discrimination right now. There is even a feeling of being looked down upon. Today, our wedding and honeymoon celebrations were rejected from the restaurant. We took the car all the way to experience the restaurant. It was hard to keep making reservations, but we got this result. My wife and I were very sad and came here. New York was treated like this. Regarding the Michelin reviews, I have eaten one star and two stars, and I have all experienced it. The first time I was treated like this, we were a little disappointed in the Michelin restaurant. The once-in-a-lifetime wedding and honeymoon just messed up.

When they called to confirm reservation, they gave us hope that it’s possible but not guaranteed. However when we arrived, the lady at the front desk directly said no its not available as those are for their regular customers, although most were empty with no one sitting there. If it’s not open to the new guests, you should indicate it openly when people make reservations as the riverside view is an important reason why people want to have a try. Also we waited over 30 minutes just for them to bring up the dessert. Terrible experience. Would never visit again.

My girlfriend and I came here for Valentines Day. (Celebrated Saturday instead of Friday, so we received the regular menu and missed all the craziness). Upon arriving at the entrance, there are two double doors, one right after another and a member of the River Cafe is assigned to each door. We did not open any doors anywhere we went.........besides the bathroom doors 🙂. We were greeted and the doors opened for us. We were met with a lady who asked for our reservations. With the confirmation, again, two members of the River Cafe opened the doors for us to let us onto the Cafe which actually seemeds to sit on the water. Our table was not yet ready and we were told we could wait at the bar and it should only take a few minutes. While at the bar, we realized the bartenders are a class act. I initially wasnt going to order a drink but thought, with this view, hospitality, and charisma, Ill get a Mojito. The Mojito took a couple mintues to make, which at first I didnt quite comprehend until I observed the care that went into making my drink. Not bad I thought, this was far and away a better service than most Manahattan bars and I might actually feel ok paying $20 for one drink. I had a taste and just wow. Best Mojito Ive ever had. Literally benchmark perfect. Our table was ready as the drink came out and the staff carried my drink to my table so I wouldnt be burden by carrying the drink.....a new type of service Im not accustom to. We were seated next to each other, another first for us. There was this....lamp with the cord that came in between us. If I could give a 4.9 rating I would because that did detract from the experience. I suggest a battery powered lamp? I understand the classic touch of elegance but we had to shimmy away and push the table out of the way to get in and out. Minor inconvenience really. We ordered from the prixe fix menu and just had waters with our meal. We recieved bread from the server who let us pick which bread we wanted. The bread was quite good. As a small appetizer, there was a........and forgive me here as I can never catch the full description........a fish rissoto, wrapped, with caviar on top, cucumbers, and a sweet sauce. Very good. Really only 1 or 2 bites but the flavors are impactful. I ordered the Smoked Salmon appetizer which was stuffed with potatoes. A cold dish, great presentation, although I dont think the cold salmon and potatoes worked quite as well as I hoped. Still very good but my girlfriends appetizer was top notch. She order the Gnudi and Trufflez and it was stunning. The flavor of truffle was good and the ravioli was shockingly soft. The cheese was a kick of flavor. Amazing. As an entree, I chose the lobster. Lobster was perfect, the chips and lobster circles were covered in pineapple sauce. Really, really good. Flavors worked very well. My girlfriend got Niman Ranch Strip Steak with masked potatoes in the bone marrow. Steak was cooked well. Very good option with potatoes in the bone marrow being the clear winner of the plate. For dessert, I got their iconic chocolate Brooklyn Bridge. Really cool and the coconut sorbet with powder was the most amazing dessert I might have had to date. Very good. My girlfriends option was quite good as well, she ordered the Semifreddo. We then had four little treats which were a great way to end the mela. Service and food was top notch. Worth the Michelin star? Yes, definitely. If you come in for a meal, I recommend selecting the ravioli appetizer, steak for meat lover and lobster for seafood, and the bridge for dessert.

This place is absolutely spectacular! Your pockets won’t enjoy it but your special loved one will! We came in with high expectations, being that’s it’s a Michelin Star restaurant, and the chef didn’t disappoint. Jackets are required for dinner and complimentary valet is available in some days, we got lucky that day. Our dinner reservation was for 6pm and we walked in at about quarter to six and got seated right away. We got sat in the middle of the room but views were still spectacular and you can see all of the financial district at its glory along with the Brooklyn Bridge. I opted for a bottle of wine instead of cocktails since we ordered the chef’s tasting menu. Why wouldn’t we try what River Cafe has to offer! We started off with an amuse bouche and Ricky, our server, was super helpful and very knowledgeable of the preparations and where their ingredients came from. He recommended the lamb and it was on the money! All courses were cleared immediately after being done with and wine glasses were never empty and neither was the water. Needless to say, service was excellent. Dessert was phenomenal and the Brooklyn bridge chocolate mousse cake was to die for, a masterpiece! I will definitely be going back to soak in more of that beautiful view of the greatest city in the world and enjoy more of this delicious cuisine!

I had dinner and brunch at this restaurant, dinners goes for about $150 something per person and brunch $67 per person without drinks. This restaurant is by the water I highly suggest to ask for a table by the window where you can see the city. The food is without doubt high quality and the service is excellent, they do get out of their way to make their customers happy. They have a parking lot and a beautiful park outside the restaurant.

Fantastic restaurant. It has the best views of Manhattan. We went at lunch time. The place was very busy but the service was prompt and the staff were lovely. Beautiful food. Every mouth was a delight. The pianist played all afternoon. Absolute must visit when in New York but you need to book way in advance.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience dining at The River Cafe. From the prompt and courteous service, sommelier, food and view, TRC exceeded our expectations. We had the squid and yellow tail for starters and both were excellent. We followed with the fish and duck, also perfectly executed. Desert was suffle and cheese plate. The cheese selection was superb. Wine list is also very good and we enjoyed their Sancerre offering. Oh. Did I forget to mention the view? Spectacular views of the city. Definitely lived up to their Michelin star.

The food, the setting, the service. What more do you want in a restaurant? This place has it all in spades. The service is absolutely top notch, only to be outdone by the cuisine! I could go on, but just read any of the other ratings and youll get the idea pretty quickly. These guys take things seriously. Theyve been doing it a while, and it shows.Absolutely loved it.

We went for dinner and although we had a tight seat and didnt get the window seats, the view of what we had was still lovely - seeing the city in twilight then the skyline glimmer with the lights.Food was amazing too. I had the oysters and shellfish starter. Loved it! Would order the same thing again. Had fish for main which was nice, but I saw the next table get a meat dish which looked better. Dessert I had a pistachio one which was heavenly. Would have that one again. We also ordered the Brooklyn bridge chocolate desert which was cool - great if you are visiting new york as it looked like a pretty (and tasty) souvenir on a plate!Outside of the restaurant is this beautiful little garden area where you can view the Manhattan skyline. Here at night with the fairy lights on make the whole setting very romantic too.

I came here close to Valentines day with my girlfriend. I had to make a reservation 2 months in advance because the place gets booked up as we approach February. Driving into the place you feel like you are leaving the busy streets of Brooklyn and going into a forest. The service is superb from the moment that you walk into the place. The food is excellent and the portions are what you would expect from a restaurant like this. Definitely a go-to place for special occasions.

We chose the River Café to host our wedding ceremony and reception in September 2008. The views are better than anything in Manhattan (the skyline is best seen from Brooklyn or Queens). Food was delicious. And the River Cafés event coordinator made sure that we were happy; she rushed Red Intuition roses from Ecuador because they werent in stock locally.

I loved it!!!! I went here on a Saturday at 2pm to have a fancy lunch. I made the reservation online and I received a call from a staff member 2 days before to confirm the reservation. I knew there was a dress code so I looked it up on their website to get an idea of what is acceptable. Their website stated Semi-casual, hm, does this sound helpful to you? It didnt for me so when she called me, I asked her specifically, can guys wear shorts? She said, no, no shorts at all. I relayed this message to my bf and he showed up in long black pants. Needless to say, it was a hot day. We arrived a little early than 2pm and was greeted by the hostess. She told us to sit by the bar until our table was ready. I sat there, looked around, and what do I see? Gentlemen with shorts!! This is the only reason why I docked a star.Drinks are super pricey here ($17+).We were seated by the window (yay)! I had the sea scallop and pork belly as the appetizer and the niman steak as the main. Both were delicious and the portion for the main was actually more than I had imagined. We were also given complimentary treats and really appreciated that. I had noted that this lunch was to celebrate my birthday. After the main course, we were given a dessert menu and I ordered the Brooklyn Bridge. It came nicely presented and had a Happy Birthday chocolate on it. Nice touch! The service was impeccable. No snobby attitude or rude behavior. I thought we would be ignored but they were actually very attentive to us.It is pricey but the lunch is worth it. Id recommend coming here to celebrate a special occasion.

Wow, just wow! First off, it is pricey. But it is worth it. Men need to wear a jacket/suit. We decided to do the Chefs menu which they bring you 6 courses randomly, they pick. Great experience and service. I ate stuff I would have never ordered. Definitely will go back.

After hearing about this 40 year old historic restaurant, we decided to dine there for my parent’s 16th anniversary. As tourists, we obviously hadn’t come prepared (this is a jacket-wearing restaurant) but were kindly offered blazers (mind you, they did have stains and were lacking in the button department). However, the three-course meal (at a fixed price of 130$) was absolutely delicious. The gnocchi was perfectly cooked in a beautifully delicate meat sauce and soft asparagus. The main was also delicious; lamb rack (medium done) with whipped ricotta and arugula-pistachio pesto together with cannelloni. The dessert was also amazing; seasonal pumpkin cheesecake (which I know sounds a little daunting at first, but was exquisite). As far as service goes, we were treated with the utmost hospitality, and the dishes were all served at exactly the same time, a true sign of restaurant professionalism. Many thanks to all the waiters and waitresses who made this very special evening one to remember!

Great food, spectacular steak tartar and good service over all. Lobster is also very good and tasteful. However, several times Ive come and requested window in my reservation and they always dismiss it. Wine is outrageously expensive and they include 18% tip no matter how the service is. Lots of improvements needed to get a first class restaurant stars as the dress code requested.

Beautiful view and location.when booking the reservation, I was placed on a wait list and the dress code was emphasized. I was later called and advised there was an opening. When I arrived, valet ran out to advise I couldn’t park there assuming I wasn’t a customer. What a way to set the tone for the experience. When walking in, there were two gentlemen in construction attire sitting in the booths. What happen to the dress code?! There was also 7 tables available. Was the wait list a gimmick?!The mushroom Wellington was over cooked and too dry. The mashed potatoes didn’t have any flavor.Overall, mediocre experience and probably my first and last visit.
